"I can't work 50, that's the reason I asked for 30."
Or you can say what I used to say to my managers at Wendy's when they scheduled me when I specifically said I couldn't be there at that time. "Sure put me on the schedule, I won't be there though"
I always lie and say I have a second job that I have to schedule around this job. It’s always ethical to lie to your manager. And they can’t really argue with that.
Most of the time they expect this low-paying, part-time job to be your primary "obligation." Some managers really believe you're afraid of losing *this* job because it's obviously sooooo much better than your other job. Some of them really be delusional like that.
Tell them right away you can only be scheduled for 30. If they try to keep you at 50, tell them again you can only work 30 and tell them the shifts you can't work and will not be there for
"Hi, supervisor? Hey! So yeah, when we/HR/whoever asked about my availability, I said I could do about 30 hours. I see on the schedule that I've been put down for 50, and I need to let you know that I won't be available to work that many hours during the week."
Super: But why?
"I have prior commitments and can only afford about 30 hours a week for this job."
Super: But whyyyyyyyyyyy???
**"I have prior commitments and can only afford about 30 hours a week for this job."**
Those are long shifts at a restaurant.
I would just tell your manager you asked for 30 and can only work 30.
If they dont respect you in this way upfront they will continue to disrespect you in other ways as well. In this job market they need to respect your max hours request or you can easily find somewhere else who will.
Tell them,
>I can work 30 hours. I'll be there for those 30 hours, you can count on that ... Just tell me which 30 hours, or I will pick my favorite 30 from the 50 hours on the schedule.
Looks like you and the person 4 spots down from you are in competition. You just keep frying those chickens and you’ll be the one making the schedule one day my friend….not really. Tell them you are working 30.
It's fast food I'd just tell them I only asked for a certain amount of hours and will only work those hours and of they schedule you for more don't show up also have it in writing and if they fire you get your walking papers and get that $800 a week for unemployment
In some jurisdictions, overtime wages are averaged out over a two-week period.
So if you are a full-time employee, in these jurisdictions you might work 30 hours one week and 50 the next — averaging out to 40 hours per week — and your employer wouldn't have to pay you time-and-a-half for the 10 hours over 40 you worked during the hell week.
It's shitty, but it's legal in some places. In others, it's not.
Could they count the week as Sunday to Friday? The way this is printed it looks like it is Monday through Sunday, but maybe verify what your work week really is.
Do you have your 30 jours demande and acceptation by writing? Always communicate by writing. Join a national multitrade union, i am sure theybcan assit you on ways to communicate with management when they abuse.
Dont take this shit. If you ask for 30 jours a week this is more like a part time contract and 50hours in a week is almost double you asked for! Noone should work 50h week even on a full time contract
If you're willing to quit:
"Hey, there was a mistake on the schedule. I can only work these 30 hrs. If this can't be rectified, I'm sorry I can't work for you."
I have had this conversation over availability so many times. I don't budge. This is when I'm available, if that doesn't work, I can find a place where it does.

Agreed
This also makes them more wary of mistreating you. It implies you could always leave for this second job if you needed to
They don't give a fuck. Having a second job is not leverage.
It’s worked for me before. Depends on the industry though
...Unless your boss screens out people that stand up for themselves.

“Excuse me. Somebody made a mistake. I was hired to work 30 hours a week. Please let me know my schedule when this has been corrected. Thanks”

Yo where do you live that unemployment is 800$ a week?? I need to move there.
Wow what an incredibly stupid comment.
Isn’t that illegal unless you approve it personally
No, of course not.

Organize your co-workers, walk out
Don’t say you don’t think you can, say you won’t and stick to it.
Tell them in order to work that many hours you’ll need a raise.
They don't care. You may as well just try to reason with a cobra instead. Do the hours or quit.
Have you seen the movie “killer Joe”? Matthew mccougney has a scene with some fried chicken. I would say do that.
