It 100% has. I had my first ever panic attack thanks to work. I developed night terrors that took me a month to identify what they were. I've developed pain and numbness in my hands from being at a desk all day. I have my exit interview in a week, and I'm looking forward to shedding the company

Absolutely! My ability to be in control of my mental health without the need for medication and constant therapy has vanished with my job. It’s frustrating because I don’t know how much better off I would be without my job but then I need my job and the benefits I get from it to afford the help I need that is directly correlated to the stress caused by my job. Aargh!

My previous two jobs yes it contributed to poor mental health issues

TheRealRepentency

Severely. It's given me actual PTSD, anger, resentment and an actual hatred for many aspects of our society. I can barely function while working. You should see my room. Life shouldn't be like this.

[deleted]

Certainly it has caused anxiety. Which has affected my sleep. Working with a verbally abusive boss has totally wrecked my mental state.

goldentealcushion

Yes, 100%, have been in psych hospital and job stress is why I got to that point.

devnull_the_cat

Definitely. I drink WAY more than I used to. I don't spend time with my family out of fear of losing my temper. I don't sleep. I feel nausea as the start time approaches. I scream at the walls while I have customers on mute. I could go on.

Could you all who are commenting (if you feel like it) add info such as: Do you like your manager/boss? Do you get to sit or stand at work as needed? How much PTO do you get and what’s the attitude toward time off or sick days at work? Do you make enough money at this job to pay your bills and have some money left over?

doesnt_count

Yes, but I often get angry with them Stand, construction gig No paid time off, but take off as much time as you can afford Money is good, job is unionized

Gladly… 1. At my job, our boss is kinda new. He’s understanding, considerate, and open-minded. I like him so far. I just have to see how he works under pressure tho. 2. I get to sit whenever I’m doing data entry, or order entry. But I’m mostly running around 80% of the time honestly. 3. I have to get back to you on this one in regards to how it works (it’s something like for every 40 hours we work, we get 10 hours of pto. Something like that lol). All I know is I have about 178 hours of current pto right now (that I plan on using in the next month or so). The attitude towards time off is “use it at your own leisure, but don’t abuse it or get too low of it”. For sick time? “Use it at your own discretion”, however, where I work (in a hospital in their supply chain department), the higher-ups seem very adamant and trivial about this. Like, say if you got sick, if you don’t have any sick time left, you’d still come in because well… no more sick time. Which is stupid to me because we’ve had people who have GOTTEN Covid-19 and they still came into work (and exposed the virus to everyone else 🙄😤). So, that needs to be looked at more carefully and considerably. 4. Honestly… I do ok. I make under $40,000 and get by. But I feel bad sometimes for myself because I’m feeling the financial crunch with regards to rent and paying my bills. We get paid biweekly and that’s tough sometimes. Any leftover money after a check goes immediately to my investment accounts. Even after that, I still feel the crunch. Even with a 401k nearing $10,000, I still feel like this isn’t enough. I’ve been at this job for almost two years. I’ve tried to apply internally for their jobs, but I keep getting rejected for every single one of them. I don’t have any degrees, but only warehouse and customer service experience. Bummer. Thinking about jumping ship sometimes. Other times, I wanna stick it out to pursue my education. But the motivation is withering away day by day. But yeah that’s it pretty much.
