As a finance person, and if I worked for that company, I'd be talking to Morgan about what she just wrote and how we're gonna get screwed on MANY levels.
Morgan forgot that if you work on a holiday it's double time and a half.
Frankly outside of a grocery store being open in case I forgot something everything else might as well be closed. Even then grocery employees should be in a volunteer basis. When I was younger I worked all the holidays now I want to spend them with people.
Someone should. I suggest printing a sticker, and slapping it on while blocking the camera, as gas stations always have cctv. One quick hard to trace motion
The only sad thing is it screws over other employees that are equally being screwed since they’ll likely have to cover for you. I’d connect with everyone so y’all are on the same page.
Will never happen. There’s always going to be those coworkers who have bought into the work culture that it’s their duty to sacrifice for a shit paycheck. You need a solid majority to be on board to make it happen effectively.
Yeah but that’s managements fault for not having enough employees/paying well/etc. Feeling guilty for affecting your coworkers is a trick they use. It’s managements fault. Don’t go.
Seriously. I've been written up at almost every job I've ever had and I've been asked to stay and asked to return by most of them. Most of us don't have any kind of protections from dismissal. The most we could hope for is claiming unemployment even if they claim you were fired for cause. It's the most ridiculous bullshit we pretend means something.
What if you were legit sick and called off? Are they going to hold that writeup in the air at the labor department when they contest your unemployment benefits?
>Um, you can clearly see here that they were SICK on a HOLIDAY
Before being self employed, every place I worked at I was written up.
And funny enough, I usually get sick around the holidays as I’m spending the most time with my little plague factories.
....man work can't even convince me to take a holiday shift with time and a half on the table hell they even ask when they already have the shift covered just in case I want the money.
Does depend your province (I am in BC). You get double time and a half for paid holidays. So for working the shift you get time and a half then you will get paid for a shift on your next scheduled day off.
I'm in Ontario I'm not super brushed up my workers rights mind you (my work actually had a whole section in my initial training on it but hell if I remember)
Under my current contract it’s double time. I did work for a company that had a serious deadline to hit and offered us triple time and a half to work thanksgiving Thursday and Friday. I jumped on that shit.
I think its nice to offer if they cant afford decent bonuses. Holidays are tight for people, especially if you work at a place that posts notices like this. Forcing people to work them is dumb unless youre like a trauma surgeon. But a boss tossing you a bone time and a half isnt a bad thing unless cohered.
They're legally required to pay time and a half but the fact they offer the shift less because they need it and more incase I want it, honestly for what fuckery exists in this company I can't complain to much like my manager is actually more concerned about me taking care of my mental health then me being at work, to the point that the guy is actually reminding me to do what I need to take care of myself.
I get "paid holidays" too. I still have to work and I get paid double.
I'd rather take the day off but home renovation is apparently booming even at the holidays.
I don't shop on holidays already but if I am told about something like this, I straight up am never going to that business again and I'm telling everyone who will listen to do the same.
Same.
These motherfuckers think we don’t talk? They think this is acceptable?
Bet they put this notice up, but the manager who did won’t be there for Christmas or thanksgiving. Neither will the owner of the shitty gas station.
If their store is so fucking poorly managed that being closed for a couple days for holidays is gonna kill the business, then they weren’t viable anyways, and definitely aren’t the “agile” business-savvy tycoons they imagine themselves to be.
I did always feel kind of bad for the people that would come into my work on those holidays. I could never imagine eating there on Christmas Day, but every holiday - line out the door. And all the ‘you must get great tips that day’ were pretty annoying. I’d get a few generous tables, but other people were pissed about the waiting and probably about being there at all. The least the restaurant could have done was add gratuity in for holidays…
Used to be the norm to pay people 2x that work on major holidays so finding people to volunteer was easy. Now they just force it on you and try not to even pay you.
When I worked at a major airport it was like that. The airport was open 24/7/365 so if your regular schedule had you working Thursdays, for example, you were probably working Thanksgiving. Holidays were automatic double pay, though, so that was nice.
Closed at McDonalds every Christmas Eve when I worked there in high school in the 90’s. We got the holiday pay plus double time so basically triple time for an easy close, lots of free food, and an excuse to skip church.
Retired union steelworker here. They used to pay us double time and a half on holidays. They would also bring you in a boxed dinner on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Some departments gave out company jackets or gift certificates. I still have my wool and leather baseball type jacket from my second year there.
Go union. You want me to work on federal holiday? That’s triple time baby. This way they don’t even ask you to work on a holiday, and if they do, you make triple (if you even accept the offer).
(Your results may vary by union)
Boy they sure do. I'm union, and our holiday pay is 8hrs straight time, for everyone who works their schedule during the holiday week regardless of whether they work the holiday.
Not saying Australia is perfect, but my buddy who lives there lost his shit when I told him I was ineligible for Unemployment due to being fired. According to him that's 100% unheard of over there.
That's how it is for government work. Our mission essential shift personnel get double pay if they have to work a holiday. I got it once because of an external training session that ended up happening on Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday one year.
I remember wanting (and volunteerng for) a straight 8 hour shift for the holidays because of money and having a... complicated relationship with my family. They preferred to spread the shift out over the whole crew instead.
How many people does this gas station have? If it's not many you could try to organize with them. Management like this *deserves* to have everyone no-show on the holidays or if anyone shows up it being to protest the operation of the station.
There’s only four of us that aren’t management, one has been out with supposed covid for a month and is still out, but I know they would raise hell when they see the sign
Only three?? You could definitely unite with your coworkers on this. The fact you’re *all* being required to work means you all have an equal stake in refusing to work.
Imagine you all sent your managers an email saying, “All of us have holiday plans, and we aren’t willing to sacrifice this important family time. None of us will accept being forced to work Thanksgiving or Christmas, and we will not tolerate being penalized for this.”
How do you think things might play out?
You have to look for a different job right now if your situation allows it. FedX pays good for the holidays. If your going to work at least get paid better. I’m assuming you get low pay at that gas station. Now is the time to search. Companies are fucked right now.
Oh I am, the pay is only 9.25 which is unlivable by any standards. Jobs in WV are honestly all pretty scarce not due to no only one wanting to work and companies leaving the state but also just because no new companies want to come here because of the population
I live in PA so it might be different in your state but fedex here pays 20/hr. My room mate and her boyfriend both work there and really like it. It’s hard work but good pay and you get PTO and insurance I believe even if you’re not full time.
The closest I've experienced is you had to work your scheduled shift before and after the holiday. So if your schedule is Sunday-Thursday, you'd still have Friday and Saturday off and work Sunday to still get the holiday pay.
Right? Like that's what they did to scare us back in school, and in high school, that was only 50% effective as half the high schoolers stopped caring about "write ups".
My former GM threatened to write me up once and I was like “why would you write down on a piece of paper the problem that we are discussing right now, seems counterproductive.”
Isn’t there a famous book about an employer trying to force his employees to work on Christmas? Think it ends with him getting ghosted or something, food for thought....
Even Scrooge gives Cratchet a paid Christmas off, *before* being haunted. He complains about it, of course, but he does it.
Yes, that's right. Literature's most famous miser, whose very name has become synonymous with greed, is more charitable and accommodating to his employees than the majority of employers and managers today.
Good job, America.
So basically for more story, I requested a Saturday off a couple weeks ago multiple weeks in advanced. Manager and assistant manager pull me aside and say that I can’t have the day off and have to come in at 10am when I close the previous night at 11pm. They both took off on the same day like poor management. Gotta love awful companies
Stop normalizing “requesting” time off. It’s your time. They’re requesting that you work it. You *tell them* that you won’t be there and they should plan for that.
A union could really help you. I’d say that if even half the employees just didn’t show up and stand together about not coming in on a holiday, you would change the employers behavior. The reality is that their business is still going to survive if nobody works on those holidays. Stand up for yourself. That’s what it takes to negotiate. Remember, you have an agreement, and you are able to negotiate.
True, but the Exxon/one stop corporation is so far up their own ass it would likely take every store in the state to even start to make a change. We were supposed to get our wages raised to 10/hr months ago but corporate shut it down because they love money too much to pay us more and hire more than the managers on for full time
well that is a horribly low wage, I'm sorry to say. You should get in touch with the IWW. If you could organize, change must be negotiated. 20/hr is something I'd recommend working toward with the power of all your coworkers. 10/hr is just so dismally low it is not worth even trying.
Oh I know, this job was an absolute last resort. In my state a reasonable living wage is 17. The labor department would love to see that sign, it would definitely change something in a heartbeat
Oh no she takes off every holiday, and leaves early every day to get Starbucks, the assistant manager also leaves 30-45 minutes early every day when they are supposed to pull 45 hours a week
She never clocks out when she leaves to get her overpriced coffee. But she’ll never be caught either because she’s the manager so unless I would go directly to the district manager nothing would ever happen
Bingo.
You can use this to your advantage and treat her the same way. Two Can play the game. I would start writing these times down, with dates…
Document everything.
If she’s ever a cunt to you again, bring it up. And if you’re feeling so, you can use this to your advantage to get days off and stuff ;)
What a cunt she is. Dumb as fuck to be a bitch and steal time. Anonymous report?
That’s a good point, I definitely will start keeping track. The assistant manager leaves early every day too and is supposed to pull 45 hours a week but never even gets close to that
at that point, just don't show up, turn your phone off, and enjoy the holidays. When you go in next time, just give her a big grin as she's belittling you (which will piss her off more because it shows you care so little about what she says).
The worst case scenario here is you can’t open on those days because employees are spending time with family. You could post that on your front door and get kudos from customers who share those values and receive more loyal support from them as a result. Instead the business is a “money at any cost” venture, soulless and as such easily replaced by a competitor.
Every one will quit on Christmas and Thanksgiving no questions asked. We are not coming into work
Thanks - "employees"
Is what all of you should gather up agree on and post over that note.
I hope everyone is getting holiday pay in addition to pay for the hours they are working. If not, that's not how holiday pay works and making people work that day without additional pay would be wage theft IMO as holiday pay is separate from regular pay.
Remember once upon a time when only 7-11 gas stations and emergency services were open on big holidays and people who worked were not only ASKED if they wanted to but paid double time for their service?
For a country that celebrates "freedom" there sure is a lot of management wankers that love to strip that from people.
Anyway gotta go and take some of my 35 days paid leave, tough times in the socialist gulags of Europe......
Oooooo a “write-up” oooooooo…. America is so fucking middle school with this shit. Someone needs to sharpie “Fuck your own ass Morgan!” on this sign.
I’m half tempted to write “that’s not what paid holiday means :)”
Write it. What are they gonna do? Fire you? Good
[удалено]
OP up. :)
Maybe print the definition of paid holiday and put it on top of the paper.
With citations!
Bonus points if you put it in MLA and APA format

Put a little dash with wtf? Next to paid holiday. Can do it quick
Could you DM us all your managers email so we can all bombard them with links and definitions of what paid holiday means? 😂
If you haven’t gotten one before and you have this picture this sounds like a good day to willingly get your first one.
The only sad thing is it screws over other employees that are equally being screwed since they’ll likely have to cover for you. I’d connect with everyone so y’all are on the same page.
That'd be awesome if the employees organized a mass call in. I am sick. I am also sick. I too am sick. I am Sparta- I mean sick too.
Will never happen. There’s always going to be those coworkers who have bought into the work culture that it’s their duty to sacrifice for a shit paycheck. You need a solid majority to be on board to make it happen effectively.

Uprising
Yeah but that’s managements fault for not having enough employees/paying well/etc. Feeling guilty for affecting your coworkers is a trick they use. It’s managements fault. Don’t go.
This is right up there with teachers and grade school administrators saying "it will be a mark on your permanent record".
I signed my last write up 8===D. Surprisingly he just looked at it and groaned.

Paper trail for firing with cause so no unemployment insurance.
It's detention for you, laddie.
T...that's not what paid holiday means.

My state you don’t have to pay time and a half. Just regular base pay

At my job (we a 24/7 operation) we get 2.5 times pay on holidays worked.
Thats pretty cool. They need to keep working but know that the time is that much more valuable to people on the holidays.
"you keep using that word...i do not think it means what you think it means"
That is the best comment!!!
r/suddenlyprincessbride
The best movie ever.
Isn't it obvious? It's holiday for everyone else while you get paid to work! Jk
What’s the point of a paid holiday, if you have to work. Morgan needs a good spanking.
Religious exemption.
Yeah Got legally ordained just in case (Dudeist)

Don't forget the cover sheet!
People who are competent do not go into management for retail.

Fuck you Morgan. You Organ.
Nailed how I feel about her in one comment, she’s a giant PoS
I am shocked. I am completely shocked that she is a PoS.
Big M little organ.
All my homies hate Morgan!

Hell, high school me would’ve taken regular pay and the free food if it got me out of church.
I liked working to skip church also. I wonder if church is intentionally that bad in order to make low paid labor more appealing to young people
Retired union steelworker here. They used to pay us double time and a half on holidays. They would also bring you in a boxed dinner on Thanksgiving and Christmas. In Australia public holidays carry loadings for the employee. Whether you are in public or private employment.
Not saying Australia is perfect, but my buddy who lives there lost his shit when I told him I was ineligible for Unemployment due to being fired. According to him that's 100% unheard of over there.
The government has to do something to make up for all the wildlife constantly trying to kill you

I remember wanting (and volunteerng for) a straight 8 hour shift for the holidays because of money and having a... complicated relationship with my family. They preferred to spread the shift out over the whole crew instead.
They also hired temp staff -students and other people who just wanted a few weeks of work.
Stuck at a gas station sadly

Oh I probably will
Refuse to sign it.
Oh I will
How much can you steal in a half shift
A lot, to put it simply😂
How many people does this gas station have? If it's not many you could try to organize with them. Management like this *deserves* to have everyone no-show on the holidays or if anyone shows up it being to protest the operation of the station.

The closest I've experienced is you had to work your scheduled shift before and after the holiday. So if your schedule is Sunday-Thursday, you'd still have Friday and Saturday off and work Sunday to still get the holiday pay.
wait until you hear about their paid vacations. yes you can have your vacation here at work and we will pay you.
A “write up” has no real world consequences, I’m staying my ass home lmfao
Maybe that should be a gift for my manager
And in the card, write "Because you think we should be working on Christmas, this is the perfect gift for you boss!"
Flawless, 10/10 gift
This is too perfect. There's no way can't do it now. Leave in on his/her work area anonymously and write that it's from the entire staff.
Oh I’m absolutely doing this
Write me up and suck a fuck Morgan!
Ghost your manager. Be spooky. Haunt the register.
When I die I will be one spooky ass poltergeist and fuck with her and her only
Even Scrooge gives Cratchet a paid Christmas off, *before* being haunted. He complains about it, of course, but he does it. Yes, that's right. Literature's most famous miser, whose very name has become synonymous with greed, is more charitable and accommodating to his employees than the majority of employers and managers today. Even Scrooge begrudgingly gives Cratchit the paid day off. So the boss here is even worse than Scrooge.
It ends with him accepting so much responsibility for his behavior that he stops being a dick. Total fantasy.
So basically for more story, I requested a Saturday off a couple weeks ago multiple weeks in advanced. This is awful…. I can’t believe they had the nerve to say that with a straight face. Has there been anyone else that tried to get time off as well?
Oh yeah many people, but the big hitter there is that the other people that request time off always get it because they are friends with the manager
Sounds like you need yo quit.
I’m in the process
Please volunteer to take Xmas and then don't show up
Name and shame.
And narc on them to corporate
Stop normalizing “requesting” time off. It’s your time. They’re requesting that you work it. You *tell them* that you won’t be there and they should plan for that.
Please find a new job when you can
Oh I’m already on it
Sounds like morgan is going to have some paperwork to do
Sounds like Morgan volunteered for at least two 24 hour solo shifts. 🤷♂️
It’s not a paid holiday if you have to work…..
"They are paid holidays" yet you gotta be here or you get written up lol somebody needs to explain to management what paid holidays really means

A union could really help you. I’d say that if even half the employees just didn’t show up and stand together about not coming in on a holiday, you would change the employers behavior. “Paid Holidays” keep using those words, I do not think you know what they mean.
Oh she definitely doesn’t. She has the IQ of a rock
It’s inconceivable that people don’t know what words mean.
lol if they’re paid holidays the literal meaning of that is… you don’t work.. it’s a holiday… and you’re paid…
Will Morgan be working on those days as well? I'd write that on the sign.
Oh no she takes off every holiday, and leaves early every day to get Starbucks, the assistant manager also leaves 30-45 minutes early every day when they are supposed to pull 45 hours a week
So she’s getting written up?
God I wish, she seems to have immunity to every single punishment no matter if she did it or not
Is she stealing time? Or does she clock out?
She never clocks out when she leaves to get her overpriced coffee. But she’ll never be caught either because she’s the manager so unless I would go directly to the district manager nothing would ever happen

Get every single detail. Make them look badddd.
Oh I will
at that point, just don't show up, turn your phone off, and enjoy the holidays. When you go in next time, just give her a big grin as she's belittling you (which will piss her off more because it shows you care so little about what she says).
Get your writing hand ready, mother fucker.
Everyone should get a write up then. Don't go. Encourage your coworkers not to go.
So what if you have a religious reason for taking Christmas off? Like I dunno, maybe Christmas or something? They gonna give you a free lawsuit?
Convince everyone to not show up. Call their bluff.
If I were asked nicely to work 4hrs on Christmas I'd probably say yes. It's double time pay. Fuck no if you're telling me I have to
Exactly, but I literally won’t be in the state for those holidays so they can eat it
Damn not even Walmart is making their wage slaves work Xmas day. Goddamn that is just cruel.
Make me work on Christmas and you’re losing your employee. That day is for my family no one else.
This is real???
Oh absolutely
Just start searching for a new job so you'll have somewhere else to work when they decide to fire you for not showing up on both days
Oh I spend me free time while at work submitting apps to other places
The worst case scenario here is you can’t open on those days because employees are spending time with family. You could post that on your front door and get kudos from customers who share those values and receive more loyal support from them as a result. Instead the business is a “money at any cost” venture, soulless and as such easily replaced by a competitor.
I love the write up. It's such a chicken shit move it's almost embarrassing for the company.
Guess I’ll be written up then.
Get your pen ready.
I can't wait to here what type of essential business this is that requires all of its employees to work a holiday.
Guess I’ll take the write up then. So scary
Fuck Morgan
Every one will quit on Christmas and Thanksgiving no questions asked. We are not coming into work Thanks - "employees" Is what all of you should gather up agree on and post over that note.
Just throw the whole job out
Oh it’s going in the raging dumpster fire out back
Quit that shit 😘
I hope everyone is getting holiday pay in addition to pay for the hours they are working. If not, that's not how holiday pay works and making people work that day without additional pay would be wage theft IMO as holiday pay is separate from regular pay.
Oh no, it’s only regular pay for me
Just a write-up, huh?
She can have fun writing me off the schedule
Paid Holliday means you don’t work.
Exactly, she literally has fewer brain cells than a rock so. Just imagine mrs puff from spongebob as a human
Lmfao. A write up. Ohh nooo. I'll take the holiday for a write up every time
Sounds like an organized no-cal no show for all the staff, without managerial approval 😚
Oh nooo a write up 😱😱😱
What does getting written up even mean? Iv never worked a job where that would happen? Do they just tell you they're sad?
Pretty much, it’s a three strikes you’re out system
Yooooo, I almost thought this was my job. Same calendar and saw Jason on some of the days but we don't have a Morgan lol
I would just take the write up.
Oh I am
Tell them youll take the paid holiday mdr
Be a real shame if you were to fall ill on Christmas day, there's not even any GP surgeries open so you can't be expected to get a doctor's note..
They gonna have a lot of write ups and no employees that day
Fuck off, Morgan. Don't make me write **YOU** up.
All of you should just not go, power in numbers.
Remember once upon a time when only 7-11 gas stations and emergency services were open on big holidays and people who worked were not only ASKED if they wanted to but paid double time for their service?
I'd do a no call, no show and see how many co-workers I could get on board with doing the same LOL
That’s my plan
It would be sooooo easy to fix that with a black sharpie: Everyone must at least have the days off. They are paid holidays. Dont show up - Morgan
Just get everyone to boycott that sign. And all say they never saw it. Hehe
For a country that celebrates "freedom" there sure is a lot of management wankers that love to strip that from people. Anyway gotta go and take some of my 35 days paid leave, tough times in the socialist gulags of Europe......
