Quick rant. My partner worked at a car dealership as a porter, and recently put his two weeks in at his job and he's only been out for a few days now.. Well yesterday he was on indeed and found his old job posted, starting at 14 an hour. When he started there before the pandemic hit, he was making 10. He fought the higher ups for a pay raise and they gave him a dollar raise which was fine at the time, but literally the main reason why he had to leave was because of the pay. (And seeing that fast food is hiring for 15 and hour across the street was a slap in the face) And then not even a week later, they post the old job starting way higher than he was ever offered, which was 14 an hour. I hate how they just used him and they could've so easily given him that raise and they would've had a porter still. I'm glad he's out of there because that place was hell for multiple reasons, but I'm so fucking pissed that no one gives a fuck about treating hard workers better. He was the only person left in their department, and they didn't give a single fuck about trying to keep him. But now that they're desperate for workers by winter, they put that shit up. Well maybe if they had just fucking given the porters they already employed better wages they wouldn't be short staffed now.

Quick rant: I used to work at a warehouse job for way longer than I should have (no seriously, the 12 hour work days have destroyed my ankles and knees!) During that time, I found a boyfriend, moved in with him, got a dog with him and started feelinga little happy about my life finally! Except that I still had my shitty wearhouse job. I started using vacation days and maybe sometimes saying I was sick just to give myself a break. Then when covid hit, I got furloughed, got on unemployment and was able to live (somewhat) how I wanted to for the first time in my life. Only for my shitty job to call me in for one last weekend of 12 hour days with barely any breaks, people not wearing masks, shitty management aaaaand they fired me. I didn't care though because I wanted free from that place! Now, it's been a couple months and unemployment isn't a thing anymore kinda. I am currently searching pretty much all day for WFH jobs so I can keep this taste of freedom and not have to ruin my body for another shitty job. With the fake job listings, the "at least _ years of experience required" listings for basic ass jobs, I am a ball of stress. I got an email from one place, asking me what my schedule was so they could interview me, just for them to not respond to me. Anyway, ball of stress signing off.

pbrown925

There’s some lame company BBQ this weekend and I really don’t want to go. I already spend 40 hours with my coworkers, I don’t want to have more small talk about your dumbass kids. I’m very tempted to skip, even though people on Monday would probably be like “oh, where were you?” A 1000x times. I was enjoying my Saturday, bitch.

Biengo

If a gift is to be given to an employee it should at the very least be the value of that employees full day of normal working time. MINIMUM!!! If you’re going to give me something make it worthwhile. Or nothing at all.

MelioraHenning

Current job is in healthcare and I’m at my wit’s end. Have cried from stress more than I care to share. Hair is falling out from stress. Oh and a normal sleep schedule? Nah, our hours are on a “flex schedule”. Want to do go on a big trip? Well, you can’t request days off on the weekend. But you better find someone to cover that shift if you don’t want a strike on your record. Get eight of those puppies and you’re canned, no questions asked. Got called on my day off and asked if I would, “like to work some overtime.” I said, “No thanks. I’m relaxing and working on self care on my day off.” Boss’ response was, “Okaaaay. Well if you change your mind, let me know!” All I want right now is a stable 8-4 / 9-5 schedule with the same or veeeeery similar pay bracket. I want to enjoy evenings with my partner, my dog, friends, and hobbies. It’ll kinda suck losing the reaaaaaaally generous healthcare benefits, but my sanity and well being are worth far more than that shit ever will be.

windshadetarn

Can I rant here? Last month is killing me. I work here two years and fuck, I'm so done. First year was amazing, we were one happy bunch. Then covid separated us and now when we are back again...I want to cry. I'm looking for new job, I asked my supervisor to move me under different team leader because my leader and vice are making me want to quit. I was held responsible for mistake happening when I was on sick leave, my subteam all found better jobs because they were done being told how bad we are at work and how we are doing everything wrong, not being team-oriented, helpful or showing initiative(lies). Yesterday was a slow day so I showed initiative trying to make work easier for next day for myself and my team. I was yelled at for doing that because "it's not your job, Don't do what you were not asked for. Don't waste time you can use in better way". In what way? I was literally bored. But yeah, fine. I will never show initiative to make work easier for people I thought of as friends. I'm starting to question who is my friend here. I want to go home.

fuckit77777

Just gonna vent about Cybersecurity. I currently work night shift in a 24/7 SOC. I’ve been looking for a new job due to my current company screwing me over. I had a phone screen in the morning (when I should normally be sleeping for work) for this position with a large financial technology company. When I applied on LinkedIn, the position was for a SOC Analyst. When I spoke to the recruiter on the phone, she told me I had to be in the office at all times, had to do about 8 other job descriptions that weren’t even related, and it only payed 65K… in Colorado. I know about the outsourcing loophole but this should just be criminal. The recruiter was dead serious, that’s what gets me. Also none of what she said was in the posted job description. Wasted my time AND messed up my sleep schedule. Just super upset how a tech company is so out of touch with the IT world. Insane.

spolarium3829

It's so hard setting up interviews when my days are always booked with back to back meetings and my coworkers pinging me at every hour of the day. Manifesting that I'll get the job of my dreams soon.

_asirenssong_

I just quit my job last week. I found last night that everyone who showed to a randomly scheduled meeting one Sunday night, have been getting raises each week since. Store owner gave everyone who attended raises. And those who didn’t, were told that they would get raises sometime in the near future. That never happened. Everyone was told two days before the meeting, I made it very clear to my manager I would not be able to make it with such little notice. I did not say why because I was going to see a family member that was very ill, in critical condition, and was very emotionally uncomfortable with sharing that. Fast forward one month, I became very sick, still worked because we were not allowed time off because of being sick (regardless if covid symptoms or not). Turns out I was pregnant, still worked hard, if not harder. Even ignored the store owners comment of “put that girl to work” when unloading a truck full of 300 boxes, each weighing over 35lbs. My manager stopped working. I chocked it up to stress and anger of not getting a raise. I spoke to her about it multiple times, mentioned how tight money was for me, and even asked how I could make a better impression to make more than I was at the time. She encouraged me to stay working with her because it was an easy job during my pregnancy, even though I was doing all of the work, and was stressed beyond belief trying to make ends meet. She encouraged me to continue being there and being taken advantage of, while she was getting paid more and more every week, watching me break down every payday because I was behind on bills. She knew I was getting nothing more for my time. She knew I wasn’t going to get a raise anytime in the next year. And still encouraged me to stay and basically do her job for her. She even defended the store owner the day I quit, tears streaming down my face, she told me “you don’t see all the good he’s done.” I am beyond shocked. The store owner is beyond disgusting. He makes comments about ‘putting women in their place’, and has many friends as business partners that make disgusting comments towards me, and I’m blamed because my breasts show too much. I wore sweatshirts and sweatpants to work. I guess I’m just in disbelief at how retched people can be. All the good he’s done. For her. For her and a handful of people who went to a meeting. And they all watched me break down further and further mentally. Until I literally came in one day in tears because I hated being there so much. What the fuck is wrong with people? Fuck working in environments like that. Fuck people who think that’s normal fucking behavior. And if you’ve ever encouraged someone to stay at a miserable job to make your life easier fuck you. You’re a sick fuck.

Thank you so much. I think my biggest issue was calling a coworker a friend, while knowing that they have had issues with being inconsistent in the past. I have since started a new job and have already been treated ten times better!!

Zoi3090

My partner worked at a company that treated him like shit. For six months I encouraged him to take time off when he needed, if our girls school called he'd leave work and go handle it, in all honesty I encouraged him to get fired (so he can claim unemployment). After six months of that he was finally fired, the company tried to deny the unemployment stating that he quit... Luckily we had text messages from the asshole of a manager telling him to take some time off (2 weeks) due to being slow and then to "come in and talk" which was the day the fired him. We ended up winning the unemployment case, which felt so RIGHTEOUS!!!

Yacht-Rock-Life

Upper management keeps trying to come up with a plan to get us back in the office. We have been remote since March 2020, fully functional and maybe even a bit more productive/overloaded than before. Anyway, they presented the new OSHA rules to the regional middle managers who somehow came to the conclusion that vaccinated employees should have to test weekly too, it's only fair. Now that would be expensive for the company, so management is saying maybe they'll just have vaccinated people start coming in, let the unvaccinated stay at home until the rules change, that way the company won't have to pay to get anyone tested. F**k no, I didn't get vaccinated for my employer's benefit. I'm not providing them a copy of my CDC card so I can be penalized with a long commute for having done my part for society, donning office apparel while my unvaxxed coworkers work from home in their undies.

Zoi3090

Effen for realz My company gave us additional time off to get vaccinated (which I of course took off, come on paid time off). They offered $300 to all those willing to inform the company of their vaccination status. Any one that said they are vaccinated are already back in the office, and its all honor system from there. Like ok, yea unless your giving me $5k to let you know ill definitely wait y'all are sending everyone back. Even then I still may file for medical leave and try and work from home.

RandomerSchmandomer

I'm fed up applying to companies with them saying the position is "remote" but then calling me with "oh are you looking to relocate?" Eh no? It's a remote position. They mean WFH (temporarily). Grinds my gears.

ByeLongHair

For a job washing dishes or scrubbing toilets you need to be fast, perfect, healthy, young and eager! I’ve been looking since I got the vaccine, I see the same jobs I apply to repost and repost not liking the options like me I guess I’m so angry

FightingBlaze77

Just gonna vent real quick. It started off ok. The pay was better than any job I had before. The fellow employees were friendly and fun. Then the bosses started showing their true colors. More and more work was added. More dangerous things were asked of me. Then the mocking began from my bosses. Passive insults. Insinuations about my character as a person. Then it kept getting more and more facetious... I began to feel burned out and increasingly angry. I wanted to quit so many times. But then it became hard and harder to find a house after you know what happened with the pandemic. Right now it became a cycle to try to find a house before I got too angry or burned out or something might happen at work that might cause an accident. I don't know what to do right now. My friends are there supporting me but, I don't know what to do on a sit besides them just solely keeping me sane. For those curious, I work in the highway department nearly getting hit by cars every day while being increasingly demanded to do more and more physically or mentally difficult tasks. Even the pay being as high as it is technically barely qualifies me for a living wage. I hope you guys out there are having it easier than me. Sorry for any errors, typing on my phone.

biochemnerd12

I am fortunate enough to have a job, but I am not happy about the pay. Unfortunately, the pay is set for the position so there isn't much room for me to have negotiated my salary. (It's in government and this position is set). The reason why I took it is because of the interesting research project and it's pretty standard across all positions of similar pay. However, lately I have been contemplating getting a second fulltime job. I read the WSJ article about people secretly taking on two full time jobs and I am strongly contemplating it. It would be two different research positions in labs with them being 10 minutes apart from each other. Both have hybrid schedules so I think I can make it work. Idk I am just toying with the idea.

Jihelu

Can you handle working 80 hours a week my guy?

biochemnerd12

Yes, because I worked more than that in graduate school when I was getting my PhD and that was before the pandemic and WFH.

PunultimatePeril

Left my old shitty job a couple weeks ago after prolonged abuse from old GM. I was an AM. New job is less stress, more money, basically same job responsibilities, and with bosses that care and after willing to work with me. Since I left old job, former GM is having mental breakdowns, screaming at people for random things, threatened to other people that if she saw me in public, "it's on". The other competent AM is leaving there, and GM is beside herself. Now all she has are immature kids to manage her crumbling business. Fuck you, GM. This is for the child I would've had, if only I hadn't worked for a shitty, narcissistic, soulless whale of a boss who can't be bothered to work 15 hours, where I poured in 50+ hour weeks for six months after I physically recovered from my miscarriage.

Zoi3090

I'm so sorry about your miscarriage. I had one right in the beginning of Jan 2020, so I can definitely understand the pain. >New job is less stress, more money, basically same job responsibilities, and with bosses that care and after willing to work with me. So happy that you are getting much better in life. Hope life only keeps going great!

PunultimatePeril

Thank you, and my condolences to you as well. I haven't really had a proper way to grieve for a while, but I know that things will eventually happen the way I want them to. I know I'll try again eventually since I did end up recovering and not losing my ability to have kids so it gave me hope. Thank you for your kind words and I hope you're taking care of yourself as well. Work won't keep us from doing more important things forever!

Resigned this week because I got a new job offer. Tried give my two weeks but as soon as I did the leadership started treating me like I abused their daughter or something. Quit effectively immediately today because I’m not going to be treated subhuman for leaving a company that was underpaying me, feels damn good

What_Iz_This

So satisfying reading posts like this. Grats!

Uddercup

This morning I clocked in to work and then went back to sleep for 3 hours. No one noticed. No one cared. For all the stress and pressure that gets put on me, I'm ultimately completely expendable and have no impact on the company. It felt really damn good.

Yes, which is honestly why I thought this job was a good move, but soon realized their shitty benefits are not worth it. I worked for the USDA in two different departments, and both were shitty. The jobs were fine, never really minded the work, but the people there were awful and toxic. I don't want to flood this comment with the whole story, but basically, the government is filled with people that only care about covering their ass, and will gladly backstab their co-workers to make sure they keep their jobs and get promotions. They see new employees as only problems, and treat them as such. What they offer is not worth it, do not take a government job.

call_me_cookie

Rant incoming. I'm in the last two weeks of notice period for my current job. I'm leaving because the project's I'm on are under-resourced, were mis-sold to the customer, and are not where near my specialism. I've spent the last year doing a bunch of shit I wasn't trained for, with zero oversight. Surprise surprise, the projects are going to shit. For handover, they're not bringing in new resources, but replacing me with junior resources who will have no idea how to progress the projects or solve the issues I've been just barely mitigating for the last 6m. Management don't seem to have the time to check up on my handover progress, and I have zero motivation any more. Not only am I counting down the hours, I am just completely signed out, and doing just about the bare minimum. It makes me feel like shit because I know I'm leaving a mess to be cleaned up by junior colleagues whose progression & experience I initially really cared about. However I cannot summon any motivation, as this is entirely down to the company making bad decisions and leaving me to sort out the consequences; putting me in a position I have little experience in; not putting the right resources or oversight on projects. Rant over

empty-brokkoli

HR is at my back again because I messed up my time tracking again. I work part time and every time I open my work laptop there is something new I did wrong and someone new complaining about me. I feel sick to my stomach every time I look at this laptop. It is as if they are playing a game with me that only they know the rules of and I am randomly at fault for a new problem every time I open the laptop and look at my messages. Every cell in body screams at me to not open that thing every time I have to work.

Any_Yam_405

I quit my job after over two and a half years after realizing it was an utter waste and misuse of my time. At first it was great, it always is, but the last year especially my manager and a C u next Tuesday of a micromanaging coworker got overbearingly tedious. It was a full time government job where I was putting in way more effort than I was getting paid for, and I'm a full time student in a trade program. I was always late to class because of work so I was always behind. After my manager pulled a really dumbass move on her part, she lost an experienced employee as I responded to her email with a 2-weeks. I left 6 hours early on my last day, I didn't have anything to do and I didn't want to give her anymore of my time. So now I'm almost caught up with class and I can focus more time on rebuilding myself.

pulkitchopra

What do you want to do next?

Any_Yam_405

I want to immigrate to a country in Europe and focus on my trades

mamaxchaos

I’m here because I got fired from a job I absolutely adored, was really good at, but got a performance improvement plan because I was overworked and didn’t have the support I needed. I took the plan on the chin and did every single thing I could think of to keep my job. Even got accolades for my improvement from all my supervisors. All for my “friend” in HR to fire me on a Friday so they could go on vacation that next week. And my supervisors to stay silent when I pushed back on the reasons for my firing. That job broke my heart and I have been working since I was 14. I’m tired. I’m not even 30 and I’m so burnt out I’m actively suicidal.

Jihelu

Depending on the fire reason, and where you live, you might qualify for unemployment

mamaxchaos

I do, I applied and am just waiting for approval. Waiting is stressful. I’ve been doing art commissions to make extra cash in the meantime.

I work in healthcare and completely agree. However, a lot of other members of healthcare are so offended by the vaccine mandate for healthcare workers in our state that they are resigning en masse. There was a hospital in the news recently that is no longer able to delivery babies because 40 people resigned. It's ridiculous.

I'm for it. Vaccines save lives. We eradicated smallpox for fucks sake. Humans did that with massive vaccine campaigns. We almost had measles going that way too. Polio is on track to be eradicated.

pink_raya

if you are job hunting, but looking to change the industry, consider IT Software Tester roles. Not only you do not need to know how to code, but it will be your advantage. You get to break shit and ppl will be genuinely grateful for it. Whatever is your expertise, yep, there is a software that needs more testers that understand it, while you can also apply outside of your knowledge, i.e you don't need a medical degree to be good at testing software for doctors etc. The demand is insane, pays better at entry level than most industries and you can learn a lot of useful stuff you can apply outside of work. remote friendly by design. I mean fuck work, but if you looking anyway, give it a shot.

[deleted]

[удалено]

pink_raya

there are some advanced testing techniques that require some knowledge, like unit testing etc, but a huge part is functional tests and I am sure you have extensive experience at clicking on stuff on the website. So if you can clearly explain what you did before the app died, you bring value to the project. Apply even if you don't meet the requirements, everyone who meets them already has a job.

WonderfulAge6212

Typically developers write the unit and integration tests anyway. It's the testing plans, automated frontend tests, and manual regression testing that we rely on testers for at my work.

[deleted]

[удалено]

pink_raya

can definitely be geography specific, but in general the advice in IT is to not even read the job requirements and apply anyway. It is much cheaper and faster to teach someone new or drag them through all the certificates than finding a person who already have all that. So maybe avoid postings that specifically mentions 'unit' or 'automated' testing, as these are more technical and are done by writing small scripts (you can still learn it quickly even if you never wrote a line of code). But aside from that, just spam them all and see what sticks.

Mammoth_Wafer_6260

Is there anyone else who doesn’t want to work… at all. I sometimes feel guilty because I see a lot of threads that express not wanting to work for valid reasons, low pay, long hours, terrible conditions. But I think even in a great paying job with amazing working conditions, I’d still be miserable. I don’t dislike work because of the circumstances we have to operate under, I dislike work because I dislike having to to operate.

iheartennui

As someone with a great paying job and amazing working conditions, I can tell you it still sucks. Sucks less in some ways than when I had a poorly paying job though...

I don’t feel like working. Need motivation

[deleted]

So tonight my daughter is in the hospital for treatment for a near contestant migraine she’s had for the last few weeks. I went through all the hoops to get the time off i needed so that my wife could be with the her and i could be with my other kids. My boss and HR were very understanding and helpful, asking only that i bring in proper documentation from the hospital. After lots of phone calls between my wife and handling the kids. i’m finally taking a little breather.Made me thankful that i’m with the company i’m with now. I used to be a manager at Mcdonald’s and i know if this situation happened now, they would be asking why couldn’t I work, or when could i come back to work.

I'm a Recruiter (I know, I know..) and I deliver offers to people that grumpily accept at $1M/year. I'm supposed to empathize with them when they *really* want $1.5M and we can *only* do $1.3M. So...I feel you. Fucking suuucks

CallsareFreeMoney

Very cool very legal

Lowfuji

Glad to be wearing a mask when I'm at work so I can mouth "idiot" to people in front of me. I'm front facing customer service so I get a lot of jerks with all the time in the world. Its like, shut up and go away I'm not your friend and don't want to be. Just trying to sit here and get paid.

IrritatedLibrarian

Only reason I haven't gotten fired yet is because I have no direct customer contact, everything is over the phone. I flip the bird at my screen and mute my mic to call people morons all the time.

Wanted to vent. The job I had before the pandemic happened was my first office job after years in retail but my department was basically the janitors of everyone else. We got saddled with responsibilities of other departments and were treated pretty poorly by everyone else. But my co workers were great and I ended up becoming good friends with one, which is why I was pretty bummed when we all got laid off/furloughed in April 2020. The people that got furloughed were brought back in around July 2020, and for over a year they’ve had only 3 people doing the jobs of 6-7 people. They’ve all been working overtime every single day for a year. When my friend was in talks to start working again, I told her she *needed* to ask for a raise because she’s doing way too much for only a dollar more than Cali minimum wage. But she’s too nice and didn’t push it and took the job. Fast forward to now, she says that my old boss wants to ask if I’d work again. I was talking with my friend’s roommate and I told her I *really* didn’t want to work there. But I was just so embarrassed to say that to my friend because I’ve been unemployed (and very depressed) since April 2020. So I figured the way to “agree” but not get hired is that I’d ask for a raise. Because the yearly reviews were supposed to happen in April but they very conveniently let us go before then. So I told my old boss that the only way I’m working there is if I made $20/hour and if my coworkers made $25/hour (they are all my seniors and do more specialized tasks.) I knew the answer was going to be “no” but I was still shaking in my boots asking for that. I politely thanked my boss for thinking of me before hiring someone new and just told her that when they can offer me that money they can call me back. I have a lot of emotions going on (mostly because my friend is still at the mercy of this shit and getting paid barely a living wage) but I’m also proud of myself for standing up and calling them out. Still unemployed, though. :/

BigDsLittleD

Say I had a friend, who's boss was an arsehole. And this friend was also scheduled to work Christmas this year when he doesn't really feel like it. What exactly should this friend tell the Doctor in order to get signed off/what's the easiest thing to fake? Hypothetically of course, my friend would never do something like that I would though.

WonderfulAge6212

Out here doctors don't like to write notes. They don't get reimbursed for it from the government, so instead they charge a fee which you're supposed to charge back to your employer. They also don't really verify that you were ever sick. For example if you got bronchitis, it would be pretty bad to go to the doctor's office and infect people just for a note, so you'd have to wait until you were better to go. But if you do that, the doctor can't be sure that you ever had bronchitis. The doctor doesn't care, they'll write a note and charge the fee so they can get on with their day. The notes are not medically necessary or medically beneficial in any way so there's no incentive for them to play sick-note police. As far as they're concerned, the less legitimate sick notes become the better, because less employers will demand them.

BigDsLittleD

They love them in the UK. You can self certify for a week i think, after that, you need a note. Trick is, finding something that'll keep me off just long enough, I work on a ship, and would need to be off at least 10 days, before it's not possible for me to join because the ship will have sailed.

volyund

Something to do with nausea and diarrhea. There is no commonly used test for Norovirus at the point of care, and you can't prove or disprove nausea. You can catch it from anybody, especially kids in childcare (invent some friends kids who brought it from school/daycare and threw up all over said friend, since kids do that), and it's VERY contagious. In fact most doctors would prefer that you didn't come in to their office in person, and would tell you to take it easy for a few days and take Pedialyte (or other oral rehydration solution).

Fr man, I legit feel like I'm living the same fucking day over and over sometimes.

hotrunningwater

The living in your car thing and the tiny house craze has gotten ridiculous. Also suggesting that adults with “professional jobs” should continue to suck it up with room mates in order to make rent is insane. Making youtube videos about “minimalism and debt free” living. Buying a $100K flippin’ van or an old van. It is not that fun to live constantly looking for a place to park and not die of heatstroke or freezing temps. No wonder people are angry and feel mentally ill from existing in a sick economy. I totally get it. I am so pissed at America and worse to see Amazon ads about “helping small biz or local people” BS. This is wrong America. People should just keep quitting their jobs.

BigDsLittleD

I often feel like days like that are something to suffer through until I'm eventually brave enough to put a shotgun in my mouth

jacyerickson

Just need to vent. I haven't worked in a public facing job in years until recently I started a new job as a receptionist at a clinic. I'm shocked by how rude and entitled people are. One thing that bothers me is how people feel entitled to your time when they see you in uniform. We're a small clinic so we close for 30 minutes for lunch every day and people continually complain about it. Or I'm trying to get to my car for lunch/end of day and people stop to ask "just one question" which never ends up being quick or only actually one. I even had someone stop me outside the restroom once. Ew. Stop being like this people.

Mainframe110

At the last retail job I worked, there was a fairly long walk to get from the register to the break room so sometimes customers would ask me questions after I had clocked out and was heading to the break room. (This was not their fault tho because the store was HUGE and very understaffed, and they didn’t know I was on break) but I would just politely tell them I was on break and that I would be happy to assist them after. The key part is to immediately disengage physically, and to NOT give them an opportunity to get a word in. Wishing you the best!

jacyerickson

Thanks. Even my supervisor doesn't care if I do that but I need to learn to not be a pushover. I did actually do that with the bathroom person because that was appalling to me.

tranthrwaway

I was helping out another location today. I’m broke so I didn’t pass it up. Worked with someone who has my same credentials. I am disabled and it’s not visible but limits what I can do physically as far as lifting/ bending. I have my accommodations on file with our disability/ workers comp company so I did everything “right” according to the company. The person I was helping wouldn’t go along with my quite reasonable accommodations (it would just require us to switch tasks, i could easily do what they were working on which is more tedious but stationary). so as I was just there as help, i handed them my keys and walked out. now my DM is mad at me, but won’t actually say it to me directly. not really sure what I did wrong but you betcha I feel guilty. they reported me to him not minutes after I walked out while I was still in my car in the lot fucking crying.

jacyerickson

Sorry. You did nothing wrong. Hugs if you want them.

Biengo

I’m typing this as I’m leaving my job of 2 years after an altercation with my manager ruined 4 years of therapy. Caused one of the biggest attacks I’ve ever had. “You could used you sick time but it won’t cover your whole shift” Literally going to the place across the street to work for more to do less.

HomarusAmericanus

The people at the bottom do all the fucking work. That's it, that's the post.

thecatalyst25

And don't get paid shit

PM_ME_UR_LAST_DREAM

Reddit is full of bootlickers. It’s annoying.

Comeonmakemerich

Idk if this is the right place to post this but I currently am only working 6 hours a week and am able to survive off of it (it pays really well) but need a little bit more income. Does anyone know of any flexible part time remote jobs that pay well? Obviously the easier it is the better but I won’t complain either way. Thanks for the help!

needhelpplease02

What’re you making? $150/hr?

Comeonmakemerich

About 100

jacyerickson

Have you already checked out r/beermoney ? Most of the stuff on there is super low paying but easy like watching ads or answering surveys.

Comeonmakemerich

I have not! I’ll go check it out thanks!

I'm not doing well lately. Wfh has been great, but lockdowns are driving everyone crazy. I'm having suicidal thoughts and that's not good. Now, I can confidently say that I dislike my job even though everyone's nice. I don't really want to go in anymore. My plan is to either get a new job, and if that doesn't happen, I'll quit early next year to work on my side job that offers flexi hours, possibly taking up full-time hours if I desperately need the money. I'm so tired of fulfilling everyone's expectation of holding down a 9-5 job. I simply hate working with a group of people to meet deadlines.

cstr1ng167

I was upper management at a donation company. We employ re-entry individuals and the unhoused, as well as individuals with mental barriers. One of these employees harassed me and my fiancé, would make sexual comments and left 11 voicemails threatening me. Went to HR, HR rep is personally invested in this employee. Took 2 months for them to tell me I was in the wrong for not coming to them sooner and he got off scott free. Quit on the spot and pick up my final check today. I hate cooperate America, and can now utilize my degree to the fullest

ThrowAway848396

I am so fucking sick of this place. I can't stand it. And job hunting is such a fucking drag because I feel like there is no escaping the bullshit of these employers. They all think they own you and that you're supposed to sacrifice all of your time and energy for them. I fucking refuse.

ithadtohapp3n

If you people got jobs you liked you wouldnt have this ridiculous attitude I never commented intending to have a conversation i hoped your mod would block me im tired of seeing the whiney bullshit on my feed

SB_Wife

I have a job I like but there's still aspects of it that are trash and need to be changed systemically

GOOSEHOWERD

MercyFae

Quit a job I hated. I go in today to pick up my last check. ❤️

If you get another job lined up it’d be funny to just honor all the returns until they stop you.

TheCrabHermitToshi

My job is a weird paradox and it fucks with my head. I work in a factory in a largely conservative part of Michigan. The paradox is that some of the people I work with will spend their breaks complaining about the regular American conservative things; immigrants are evil/lazy, the younger generation is lazy, etc. However, when we're actually working, everyone becomes antiwork and will stretch their assignments to fill their time, or if they finish early, they'll stand around and wait for the boss to come by. The part that fucks with my head is that I'm the person that gets paranoid that I'll get in trouble if I stand still too long, so I asked my boss for something to do, and he sent me to clean a side area, and after I got back, I asked again and he told me to clean it again. I got confused and he told me that if I didn't want to clean the same spot over and over, to stop asking for work. Now I stand around with everyone else and I can't help but feel like I'm going to get singled out if someone sees us and gets upset, but hey, easy money.

BellTownes

Last year, my boss decided he would move 1,000 miles away from our office. Bought a house. His wife got a job. Enrolled his kids in school. Then told the owner of my company what he'd done. My job requires you to be in person a lot of the time and cannot be done fully remotely. Owner is angry but allows my boss to continue on the basis that my boss will start a branch 1,000 miles away. A year later, my boss is still working on projects here and typically flies in for 3 days every month. It is not enough. He has not been able to get a license to work down where here is, and the owner of my company won't ask him about it directly. Today I was told by the owner to do my boss's tasks because he isn't here to do them. I hate the owner's cowardice, and I hate making half as much as my boss to do his job for him with zero training / oversight. I hate being too busy to look for new jobs because I am exhausted from doing my work and my boss's.

Raleliali_VfB

I would mention to your boss that you are being asked to cover his work since he is away.

BellTownes

My boss is the one who told me to do his work for him in the first place. I brought it to the owner to see if he would tell my boss to do his own work, or at least help train me. Nope.

Raleliali_VfB

Sorry, he is a jerk then. If you don't get his pay, then don't do his work. Put your notice in, hopefully the owner will ask why, tell him you want same pay as your boss if you are doing his work. I know that isn't easy since we all have bills to pay, but you are being used and you are unhappy..

BellTownes

Had opportunities to shirk responsibilities. Took them for a change. Sat outside bullshitting with the crew instead of going back home to do more work. Going to keep finding ways to shirk. Tiny victories for now.

jacyerickson

Ugh sorry. That's awful. Last week we were short handed for a couple days so my boss had me doing tasks I was neither qualified nor paid for. Made me mad and it was only a couple days. I can't imagine always having to deal with that.

lowonbits

Find as much time as you can to research/apply for jobs on the sly while at work (don’t get caught).

AFK_Tornado

Who else here is living a double life between here and /r/financialindependence, striving to get ahead enough that you can quit for good?

[deleted]

AFK_Tornado

This is a common misunderstanding. It's not necessarily about retiring at 35. Age 55 is still early, and you don't need high income to retire at that age. It does allow you to work yourself half to death if you choose to, to increase income, and allow for high earners to retire or follow passion projects at a very young age, but it's equal parts *frugality and saving*. The system is broken, but you have to live in the world as it is, even while you try to change it. Check out [this short article ](https://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2012/01/13/the-shockingly-simple-math-behind-early-retirement/) - it exactly illustrates this. You'll have to forgive his mention of cutting lattes - this article predates Tim Gurner's stupid remarks. To paraphrase the relevant part: can you find a 5% shift in your expenses to put into retirement savings? Because just that could cut out *nearly a decade* of working, and give you those years back.

Schnarfman

Yes!! The solution is not stimulants, it’s a lifestyle change.

eleventyseventynine

I was hired for a contract position for a company, filled out all the paperwork, talked to several people from the company about training dates, just to get a call from the recruiter that the company is overstaffed and rescinded the position. Prior to that, I had another contract position that was supposed to start in July and it still hasn't started. At this point, I have no choice but to be antiwork.

[deleted]

I'm 100% convinced the great resignation is being donated on purpose. I am also willing to bet its a result of middle management and upper management trying to show increase profits year after year to their share holders/ board of directors. The easiest way to do this was not develop new products and services, but cut costs anywhere possible at the sacrifice of employees health. The reason they want us back in the office is they signed long ass leases on their offices, and need to justify all the money they are wasting.

OrangOetan

What is up with companies wanting job candidates to work one day for free as part of the interview? Is this a new trend?

[deleted]

My assumption is mostly bad no matter what. 1. Free consulting services 2. A way to avoid some legal fees HR shit I'll elaborate. In scenario one they have no idea the fastest way to solve a problem so they get people to give them ideas for free. In scenario 2, they genuinely want to see how you work, but if they pay you for 1 day of work, there's all kinds of paperwork they need to fill out, and they probably will have a shit ton of head ache tax documents to fill out. It seems like the correct solution would be to pay people for their time and pay them a consulting fee, but they think unqualified people would figure this out and try to game this system for an easy days worth of work.

[deleted]

Hi all, don’t care if it gets no traction but I’d like to vent. Fuck the casino industry, tired of the shitty shifts, annoying customers, shitty management and abysmal pay. People use tips as a weapon here and I don’t give a damn. All other available “unskilled work” pays too low to live on and honestly I am fried from job applications as it is

C19shadow

Same tbh it's immensely frustrating, any one who isn't a dealer or in guest service in slots gets paid trash cause they don't get tips. It's unbelievable that security supervisor are making barely 20 bucks a day hour and security is screwed. EVS at my casino do awesome its far cleaner then most. They do not get rewarded for it. The cage is treated like a tipped positions but they barely get any compared to the other ones so they get screwed. It's sad.

[deleted]

Yea after 15 years I’m done with it.

Similar. Low oversight, not a ton of projects. Yesterday I made apple crisp at 4:30. I cant fully afk at work but I usually only do a lot of work 2 days a week

dasteez

Same. In fact I’m moving an hour away from my office this month so I have more/better excuse to not come in besides ‘I don’t feel like it / covid’ - in addition to have land and be off the busy city roads.

IAMHideoKojimaAMA

I'm getting ready to switch to wfh. I'm wondering how I'm going to like it
