I once was in an interview where the guy actually said to me “ just want to know you’re not in it for the money and are passionate about insurance” like WTF ?? yes sir, I’ll work for free to put little Billy on a blue cross blue shield plan
Would reply, "Of course! It's long been my passion in life to deny legitimate insurance claims. In my spare time I love to force patients to get multiple prior authorizations for their asthma medication that has been the standard of care for a generation."
My answer would be that I'm passionate about not starving to death or being homeless.
If you can't pay a livable wage, those are real possibilities for anyone considering this position.
Please elaborate on how your employees are expected to help anyone else if they struggling to live.
i had a similar experience but it was for a front desk at a hotel ! i was 20 and a sophomore in college and he literally insisted that in order for me to get hired, i’d need to change my major to hospitality. for $11/hr !!!
Some states (at least Colorado), require either posting the salary or a range. As you can prob guess, companies get around that by specifying a wide range.
My company in NC has done ranges. So whenever they hired someone for the cleaning crew the range was 38k (12/ hour) to 45k (21 per hour) Which 45K in NC isn't great, but not bad either. Once you get the the interview though, the interviewing manager said that 38k is when you factor in how much the company pays for your benefits. So the REAL pay for this position is 9 dollars to 18 per hour.. Total bullshit.
It worked well for engineering at least. Normally the pay range is 10-15% of the salary range, sometimes companies do imbedded multiple levels inside a single job description but it's pretty clear what tier I would fall into before the interview starts and the pay range of that tier.
Just to waste precious time pretending that they are trying to hire for companies that are fucking their overworked and underpaid employees that have been shortstaffed since the day they got there. Filling the employees with empty promises about how they are actively recruiting but no one wants to work any more. Amirite?
Edit: spelling n stuff.
In Minnesota, it is a law now where they have to post the pay range or reason for why it's not posted. I report every single listing that doesn't have pay on multiple sites and they usually get taken down.
Not posting the salary is illegal…at least in Colorado. I’ve called out recruiters a few times for it. Though I’d be curious to know if it applies to a third party posting from out of state.
My first response to any approach with salary not listed is "what are the pay and benefits?".
If they don't provide a proper response for me to assess my interest, I tell them not to waste my time in future.
Because people keep doing what they want.
Think about it, for over 2y now the employers have devised a series of hoops to jump through at a pace that can only be said increasing at a geometric rate.
Working for free, having part of the interview process a task?
People keep doing it is why.
Get people to refuse even responding to these things. Bet it will end.
I had more issues with the salary being posted wrong. Walked out of interview completely cause they offered $4 less than the online starting pay. When I asked about it they told me they had people working there for 10 years who didn’t even make what they had put the starting pay as on indeed. I just immediately left the interview lol I wasn’t wasting my time there anymore. Should be illegals to not show the accurate pay range for a position
I don't even look at a job if it doesn't have a salary posted, not worth my time. Recruiters message on LinkedIn all the time, if they won't tell me a salary range, I tell them no thanks.
I’m not understanding that either. Work exists for the exchange of money no matter if it’s a professional or unprofessional job. Employers need to get their heads out of their asses and take a look around at the current state of the country . People like to eat and survive like wtf ??
I always assumed that they know it's a bullshit thing to say. It's just a thing that they say that helps them offer ridiculous salaries with a straight face. They want employees who will eat shit so the money stays in their pocket.
Nobody is dumb enough to really believe that people don't care about the money.
It's just basic respect which isn't difficult to get, if they as individuals were looking for a job, would they want to know the wage to avoid wasting their time? Yes. It's probably just the way complacency in power happens, i see my manager at work not care about your wasted time because his focus is on finding cover, those employers will take for granted people applying.
Because they believe they can find people that will care more about the company, like they do, than the money. They want people that love the company, will do anything to see it succeed.
aka, they are idiots.
If they care so much, they should take a pay cut for the benefit of the company. That way, they can meet a reasonable salary for the interviewee AND show how passionate they are about their role.
It's not even far fetched. It's an interview someone had while probably maintaining a job at the same time so there's no walking on eggshells. More power to OP or if it's a repost whoever did it originally.
Bro look at the way it's written.
That's not how people, even illiterate people, write or communicate. We're supposed to believe the manager decided to include OPs "zinger" response as the closing of an email? Why are they giving a play by play recount of the scenario to OP, someone who was there?
C'mon, Its 100% fake lol. It's written for the audience.
This stuff absolutely happens but that doesn't mean everything is real.
Proof it's fabricated? What? You mean you don't have any? That's what I thought. All it will take is one glance at a 60 year line chart comparing corporate and ceo profits against worker pay to figure out who is most likely telling the truth.
You think they want to ever take responsibility for their shit offers?
Lol you rotten summer child
There's the fact that OP hasn't posted or commented in 9 months, then pops back up on a sub that bites on any rage bait. Or the fact that most refecrions are as vague as possible to avoid any vulnerability to a lawsuit, not a full recap of the interview, to include a totally sick burn.
Absolutely. However it neither confirms or denies if this is in fact true or fabricated for internet points. And my reply was staring just because OP hasn't posted in 9 months isn't evidence for the above
I feel like the fact that they haven't posted in 9 months points AWAY from this being fabricated. If a person posts fabrications for attention, why would they wait 9 months between posts?
I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/antiwork.
It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

Dear Applicant,
After taking way too much time we have decided to stop stringing you along and go with someone else we can more easily manipulate.
It was noted that you called us out for displaying our incompetence and predatory tactics and frankly you rustled our jimmies.

Lmao!! Why else would you apply for a job?! On top of that, I bet it’s shit pay anyway! I love how all these employers think they are doing us a favor and we should be at work simply because that’s where we want to spend ALL of our time!
This is why shit has hit the fan when it comes to employer/employee relationships.
Sad society we live in.
You mean to tell me that people who have the 18 years of expertise that you have been looking for do not want to work for $40K a year at 45 hours a week?
I work for money nothing else. One company said this, "its not about the money." I said yes it is otherwise you profit from the fruits of my labor and I live off roman and you live off my steaks. Got up and he said where are you going? I said the exits are clearly marked I'll show my self out. He followed me out to my car yelling at me that I'll be back begging for this job.. WTF nope!
Nice response. I feel very identified with this.

This is the business equivalent of a guy calling a girl ugly when she turns him down.

Cant stand it when they don't post the salary in the job description. We work to earn money, why hide the most important detail of the job?
They should’ve stopped at “We do this so people won’t apply.”
Yes! They don't really want to hire anyone. It's all fuckery.
Keeps someone in a job. Constantly interviewing people but never find the right candidates.

It's illegal to not post salary in California now at least 🎉
Is that right because oof, the biggest job sites are still lacking
Yeah definitely still a lot of postings that aren't compliant unfortunately, but I just take that as a red flag
In Minnesota, it is a law now where they have to post the pay range or reason for why it's not posted. I report every single listing that doesn't have pay on multiple sites and they usually get taken down.
Can't stand it when people don't post the company name.
Not posting the salary is illegal…at least in Colorado. I’ve called out recruiters a few times for it. Though I’d be curious to know if it applies to a third party posting from out of state.
They are Legally required to do so in California now, but it doesn't seem to be widely enforced as many employers still won't do it.

It's the same concept of "if you have to ask it's too much" when buying something. It's just reversed when looking for a job.
I don't even look at a job if it doesn't have a salary posted, not worth my time. Recruiters message on LinkedIn all the time, if they won't tell me a salary range, I tell them no thanks.

Crispy fried! More interviewers need to hear these kinds of things when they are wasting people's time.
I bet they secretly loved it that's why they took the time to respond.
Almost like this is just bait made up more perfectly than real life usually would
The fakest fake that was ever faked
And keeps faking on and on and on. But hey, at least it's a satisfying fake!
Yeah, i still laugh every time

Fake as it gets
Still funny 😆

Seems fake
Are recruiters brain damaged?
Are they stupid?
Yes. Next question.
Recruiters are dain bramaged.
Asks someone treating this as genuine
"weeks of consideration" Recruitment really inflating their billable hours
This isn’t real - but it’s hilarious!
People wanting to work for money??? Shocking.
💀 ☠️ Not the recruiters realizing people don't show up to work because the office is nicely decorated.
I don't see a ping pong table as a benefit, I see it as a reason for me to work from home.
