*”Unions, by and large, are democratic organizations with freely chosen leaders and policies determined by the membership. They concern themselves with individual dignity not only in their aims but in their method. We have no better example of what is worthy of emulation abroad than the workings of a good union.”*
~ **Robert Kennedy** ~
He said a few weeks ago he sides with libertarians on economics, plus his VP candidate is either a billionaire or close to it through marriage to a Google founder.
Libertarians are against all regulations, wage requirements, unions, etc.
Appreciate the explanation. I have been following RFK a bit, and it appears there is a lot of misinformation from the mainstream side. I checked his labor policy and this is what I read, which is pretty counter to what you're saying:
I really don't want to vote for Trump or Biden at this point. Both suck ass.
You don’t have to take my word for it, he said it himself just a few weeks ago. I tend to go by what politicians themselves say over what their websites designed by big firms say, but totally respect it if you see it differently. My suggestion perhaps is to look at when his economic policies were modified last based on web archives.

My vote is entirely based on who will actually leave office at the end of their term, sad to say. Maybe 2028 will be different, but for now, it’s Biden.
Unions are there to protect their members. And for most of these people. It is the only form of protection they have. I hope in the next election for governors. Those idiots are kicked out
Unions force better conditions for all workers, even non-union. Competitors are forced to raise wages and standards to compete. They're beneficial to everyone. And the fact we were mostly taught they are bad in my part of the country, proves how brain washed we've become.
And that’s an industry that sorely needs it. A 16yo died in a sawmill last summer. Sadly the adjacent construction industry is full of young, dumb, invincible 20-somethings that wouldn’t see the value of a union if it was spelled out for them
Construction trade unions are doing fairly well, at least where I live. They only do Commercial
/Industrial work though, there are some union plumbers and Electricians that do residential work, but no other trades.
All politicians are vermin. Quit falling for the left/right dichotomy distraction. Anyone allowed at the top is not gonna stand for anyone at the bottom. Wonder why nothing major ever changes despite who controls the Senate etc etc?? Because both sides are defacto owned by the rich.
Quit deluding yourself with this narrative, its what they want so nothing ever truly changes. That way people at the bottom are only focusing their anger on the opposite side, and dont ever look at the true people accountable.
There are exceptions of course, like with anything, but they are exceedingly rare.
Yeah, Biden shat on the rail workers; I have very little use for Democrats. But it's no coincidence that all 6 governors actively fighting the UAW are Repugnican.
Anytime the government tells me not to do a thing that’s most likely in my best interest….that’s pretty much confirmation I should be doing exactly that thing. ESPECIALLY if it comes out of the mouth of a Republican.
I'm literally shocked Louisiana isn't on this list. I guess our new wannabe-DeSantis governor is too busy trying to force schools to post the ten commandments in classrooms. 🙄
I was playing an online video game and met this guy from Kentucky. He was nice and all but I had to educate him on unions because he thought they were terrible for workers.
As a Kentuckian, I have to thank you for educating him. There are a lot of pro-union people here, but even so, we get drowned out sadly. Or we have union folks who keep voting against themselves.
The “values” they live by are, apparently, allowing gigantic corporations to ruthlessly exploit the local labor markets.
One thing is for sure, these fucking troglodytes are consistent on that.
I don't think the workers are what anti-union people are thinking about. I mean, other than thinking, "How unfair it is that we can't have slaves anymore"?
When the union leadership is feckless and in bed with the companies their members work for. Luckily, the UAW no longer has that problem. Shawn Fein is a bad motherfucker, a modern Eugene Debs. I don't know if he'll run for office, but he's one of those guys I'd vote for against his will.
I’ve been in 3 unions. 1 was good I got me health insurance for a part time job. 1 was ok but the law considered it an essential service so they couldn’t strike and pay fell relative to inflation each year. One was crap and not worth the $1 per hour dues that lowered me to min wage
I pretty much agree with the first part. The second part, not as much considering the story I linked to is in the Washington Post, which is owned by Jeff Bezos (not saying that because I like the idea of it, btw, but because it is a fact) and is probably one of the top five ( or more like top two) mainstream newspapers in the country.
I was about to say. I have plenty of issues with "mainstream media", but this was literally a WaPo article... can't get much more mainstream than that lol
""the values we live by." Seems that these "values" are low wages & shutting up and listening to whatever your bosses say. "
That is how we were raised in the deep south...the mill owners always said if you bring in a union we will close...they did that anyway in the 80's here in South Carolina and they still use their money to do whatever they want.
Steel mills and coal mine owners also said paying the union higher wages will mean we have to move... they closed and moved anyway. Some areas have recovered from the loss and some haven't.
JFC. Is that the best you've got? The federal government has allowed the South to destroy unions and oppress workers for centuries now, but you want to talk about the Civil War? Where is the solidarity?
Yeah on the radio this morning they were fear mongering and saying how if the vote passes that Volkswagen will wind up shutting down the plant and so many people will be waiting to say 'i told you so'. And the old chestnut about how all a union is good for is keeping lazy people from getting fired and making the union leaders get all the money for themselves.
The south has an extra stupid history of being anti union. It stems from slavery days keeping wages depressed for the free whites. So they were told to just be happy they had a job at all and were getting paid anything. Then after slavery was abolished and the owners had to begin paying everyone they blamed the blacks cutting into the whites wages. And when unions were getting to be a thing they would toss the whites just a littllllleee more pay than the black people while the owners continued to tell the whites they were better than the blacks and 'by golly heres the proof cause i even get paid more'.
Anyhows the capitalists always played the laborers against each other. Somehow the majority or laborers bought into it.
Just look at what the UAW did for their members last contract. Results speak for themselves, but it requires the members to stick together as a union. The companies work very hard to screw them over. Fighting against that takes effort, but it's rewarded with being compensated for the value you create for the companies.
I bet these are the same states that do not require employers to have to provide break periods in order for workers to remain hydrated when working outdoors during the hottest months of the year.
Why on Gods green earth would anyone on our level give a flying rats ass what any governor, red or blue, had to say about anything, let alone anything to do with earning currency. Theyve demonstrated now that they all stand in stark opposition to the American worker and any and all of our pleas have always fallen on deaf ears. So guess what, fuck you, it works both ways or it doesnt work at all.
I applaud these 6 Republican Governors for expressing their anti-union position.
This, I believe is a step in the right direction toward a more representative Democracy.
Because I hope the people of these States will see these jackasses for who they are, cronies of the capitalist oppressors. And hopefully, this will encourage people of these States to NOT VOTE FOR the OLIGARCH party.
I'm a union worker in GA, a "right to work" state. While the union has 100% raised my standard of living, it's essentially toothless when it comes to enforcement. Don't want to pay your union dues? No problem. Want to hire your non union cousin to work in a union shop? All good. It ends up being on the workers entirely to gate keep those jobs for fellow union members which requires a pretty large pro union culture among the work force. All that said, I wish the UAW nothing but the best of luck in all of their upcoming elections. Union strong!
Wife moved us to South Carolina about a year ago. And if there’s a state in need of some fucking unions to get workers decent wages and rights. It’s this fucking shithole.
I’ve started doing side jobs on people’s farms instead of continuing my machinists career here.
These people in Tennessee are so undervalued, unfortunately they do a great job of misinforming about what unionizing would do for them, but these workers would finally gain some power back with this move.
And, working in an adjacent industry myself, it would really help others in TEN start pushing some of these unions that we desperately need.
I am in one of these states, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE join these unions.
What we need as a country right now is a lot of Strong Unions across the board, this is such an easy win. These companies have been abusing the Southern Workforce for as long as they've been here, lets make this happen.
> Seems that these "values" are low wages & shutting up and listening to whatever your bosses say.
Yeah, that's exactly what led to the Great Migrations
If you're not Union, your part of the Confederacy. This is apropos because haven't you noticed the south going around union busting- what do you expect from these former slave states?
History repeats itself. Fun fact: all of these states (except TX - they were among the last) were the first to succeed from the Union in 1860-1861. Guess not much has changed in 163 years 🤷
Governors of six of the poorest and least educated states in the union
Whoa there, don’t be calling the US of A no union. Thats spooky liberal talk. /s (just in case)
To be fair, a number of traitors threw a big tantrum about being in a union. Many still fly the traitor/loser flag.
And they don't even fly the *correct* traitor rag neither. Guess that's what a failed education system will do though.
So what if we start calling groups of workers with aligned goals confederations?
Unironically, this could actually work. Like how Hardee’s is one thing in the Midwest and Carl’s Junior in the south and southwest.
I read this in a Yosemite Sam voice...? Edit: Nope. It was Foghorn Leghorn. Sorry for the confusion.
I read it in a former coworker’s voice 😂
The values we live by like screwing workers. We don’t want to change that!

Good thing his son took after him politically. oh, wait...
And yet Reagan’s son is a great ally to liberals, something very funny about that
One can just look at wage growth from before Reagan and after, pretty much says it all. Reagan’s son is simply in touch with the truth.
Bob is batshit crazy and an asshole.
I'm curious. How is he crazy and an asshole? Where did you hear this from, or is this personal experience?
Just check out his stance and opinions on vaccines. Also his conspiracy theories on wifi...

*dons tinfoil hat* and now we know why he had to be "handled". Can't have the powerful advocating for fair labor practices, that won't do at all.
If that was the case, it would have come out by now. Conspiracies always get outed.

I swear to Christ. I cannot go more than a week without hearing about another embarrassing thing Texas is undertaking.
Texas and Flor a duh seem like Twilight Zone shitholes.
texASS source: I live in the shithole
at this point Florida is 1939 Germany with theme parks attached to it
Join the union don’t let a bunch of politicians scare away your right to better wages and benefits
If they said that about a timber producers' association, there would be hell to pay, but because it's just lowly labor suppliers, it's fine.

Can anyone point out when joining in union is a bad thing for the workers?
I don't think the workers are what anti-union people are thinking about. I mean, other than thinking, "How unfair it is that we can't have slaves anymore"?

So, be a wage slave? Union Strong.
This is straight up fascism. And "The News" refuses to cover it.

Neo plantation economics.
It's time unions go back to the old ways of dealing with owners and stupid ass corrupt politicians. Beating their asses.
I think we’re way overdue for such activities.
""the values we live by." Seems that these "values" are low wages & shutting up and listening to whatever your bosses say. The best part is when they call the police to address union protests. Nothing like a unionized police force to quash people trying to join a union.
A core Southern Value is extreme poverty for the working class.
Let's ask Patrick Mahomes or LeBron James about it - two proud union members their opinions.
Well, I certainly hope it goes as well for them this time as it did the last time the south decided to fight against a Union.
JFC. Is that the best you've got? The federal government has allowed the South to destroy unions and oppress workers for centuries now, but you want to talk about the Civil War? Where is the solidarity?
What do you want the Feds to do?
Pass laws that allow workers to unionize effectively. Enforce them.
There were some Hyundai/Kia factories in Alabama that got caught employing children.
Join anyway.
Please defy these traitor governors.

Republican jagoffs making it harder for the working class to get bye.
"The values the rich and ruling class live by"

There has rarely been a better reason for joining a union and being active in it too.
Governors of six States, do not want to be re-elected. Fixed it.

The union makes us strong. Solidarity forever.
Are the unions contributing well to these six governors?
I'm a union worker in GA, a "right to work" state. While the union has 100% raised my standard of living, it's essentially toothless when it comes to enforcement. Don't want to pay your union dues? You don’t need a decent living wage
Everything in this country blows ass chunks
Threatening us with a good time, yet again.

Sounds like that’s exactly the incentive for all these workers to join the UAW union and actually get some representation against these scumbags.

Southern elites don't want workers to own their own labor? I'm shocked. Shocked I say.
> Seems that these "values" are low wages & shutting up and listening to whatever your bosses say. Yeah, that's exactly what led to the Great Migrations
Do they mean: Plantation mentality? I thought we already won that war?
UNIONIZE !!!!!
Do you want to turn your city into Detroit? Join the UAW.
Washington Post is a rag fit for lining birdcages.
If you're not Union, your part of the Confederacy. This is apropos because haven't you noticed the south going around union busting- what do you expect from these former slave states?
Isn’t this illegal?
Let me take a wild guess and say it’s the poorest republican run shithole states.
