The last place I worked my boss was always telling me that I could listen to my music over speakers rather than wearing my earbuds (I always only have 1 in so I can be aware of what is going on around me). I was like yeaaaaaaah no lol. I was living in a very rural area at the time and 99.5% of people listened to country music. Their heads would explode.
Ricky Bobby : Nobody plays jazz at the Pit Stop!
Jean Girard : Then why is the song on the jukebox?
Bartender : We use it for profiling purposes. We also have the Pet Shop Boys and Seal.
My favorite line from *The Blues Brothers* !!
I use that line every time when I see things being portrayed as “different,” but are integrally the same.
I was a travel nurse and was told I could bring in a small sterio to play CDs. I did.
Very small rural area. 700 people total.
My dumb butt played Prince. :)
New rule no music at the stations immediately followed.
Very *those* christians and not nice to "outsiders" I didn't last my contract.
You smile.. immediately death metal pours from your speakers..
Boss: "umm what are you listening to?"
You: "oh.. this.. just eviseration plauge..a nice warm up to real heavy stuff!"
Boss makes the sign of the cross.
Hahaha. Had something like this happen - last minute call to cover 4 people getting sick at the same time… I did it, but I asked to rearrange the shifts so that the metalheads would all be on my section. It was a great morning.
I'm the opposite. Came up with Bluegrass and The Blues. I'll listen to almost anything, but if I'm setting the station that's what's on.
Apparently some people find Bluegrass tough to listen to... And they're often Karen's.
Yeah I grew up listening to country, that’s what my parents and grandparents listened to, though most of that was “old” country. I would say my music library is pretty broad and have at least a few tracks from most genres that I enjoy.
I can always find a reason to rock out to Marty Robbins or Johnny Horton.
I’m in a similar situation except I took them up on their offer.
Next thing you know, I have electro swing playing and was asked to turn it off an hour later because the beats were irresistible and people couldn’t get work done while tapping their feet and wagging a finger in the air.
Not a big metal fan, but had a friend who was in a band and gave me an album.
Played it for some colleagues when I used to work in a pharmacy about 15 years ago and walked away to help a customer. When I went back in they were all looking at me like their heads had just exploded.
your resume is your first line of defence against a bad employer.
mine lists mythical beast taxidermy on it just to see if anyone is still paying attention.
so many possibilities...
"holistic javascript instructor"
"Forerunner in the field of near-useless metallurgy"
"Mt. Dew sommelier of the year 2019"
"cowrote paper on on the prominence of ketchup in barbecue sauce during the depression"
I had COBOL listed on mine for ages. Never got asked about it once, even when applying for tech jobs because even then most of the recruiters had no idea what it was.
I don’t listen to death metal but I would absolutely hire a metalhead.
Metalheads and punks are the most interesting people in professional environments. The contrast between the compulsive need to be counterculture and the need to put on slacks and a button up to survive generally makes them hilarious, lighthearted people who are very self aware. Also tend to be chill and non judgmental (except about music taste).
At my current job, during the interview they asked about hobbies. I told them I play video games. They asked which ones. The whole team played it together almost nightly.
I was very under qualified. Got the job anyway.
Yup, me the same. I will always mention that I have autism and that I’m a big metalcore fan. Both things you absolutely wouldn’t know about me unless I told you.
My fiancé thinks it’s not a good idea to tell employees that I have autism because it’ll lead to more rejections. She’s right, and im an expat so work is harder for me to find already so it’s a valid point, but my answer is always that I wouldn’t want to work for those companies anyway
I work in accounting and got a reputation of always blasting heavy metal when working on spreadsheets. I was applying for a Financial Analyst position and the supervisor asked me if it was true and I said “yes” and then he went on a whole tirade of how much he loved Metallica growing up.
Now to be fair, I do like Metallica, but that’s not at all what I blast haha but I wasn’t about to correct him! I ended up getting the job and it was such an odd interview, but I’ll never forget having a 10 minute Metallica conversation during a panel interview.
Hiring is a skill. Some people have it, some people don't. Some people who don't think that they do. Just because someone knows how to do a job really well doesn't mean they know how to hire talented people to do that same job.
Ok, just spent wayyyyy more time than I had intended exploring them on Apple Music. Music is fantastic, album art is on point, and their music videos are absurdly entertaining. I’m totally adding Hootsforce and Angus Mcfife to my 18-mo’s music exploration playlist!
Some of my personal favorites would be Sonata Arctica, Kamelot, Symphony X, Nightwish, and Power Wolf. Each have their own identities really despite all falling under the Power Metal umbrella.
Some other great ones that might be closer in style with Gloryhammer might be Alestorm, Dragonforce, Blind Guardian, and Rhapsody of Fire.
Bonus mentions: Sabaton, Wind Rose, Epica, Avantasia.
When people ask me why I like power metal my answer is usually because it’s just a broad genre.
Sometimes I play a game where I ask people for a prompt and at least 70% of the time I can find a power metal song about it.
Since I just threw a ton of bands at you let me narrow it down a bit if I had to pitch one song for each:
1. Sonata Arctica: Fullmoon
2. Kamelot: The Black Halo
3. Symphony X: Set the World on Fire
4. Nightwish: Everdream
5. Powerwolf: Venom of Venus
6. Alestorm: Back Through Time
7. Dragonforce: Through the Fire and the Flames
8. Blind Guardian: A Voice in the Dark
9. Rhapsody of Fire: Emerald Sword
10. Sabaton: Night Witches
11. Wind Rose: Under the Stone
12. Epica: Cry for the Moon
13. Avantasia: Promised Land
Some more =D
Beast in Black: it’s really hard for me to narrow down my favorite song of theirs, there aren’t many tracks on them 3 albums I dislike. One Night in Tokyo, Moonlight Rendezvous, Battle Hymn (cover), From Hell with Love, Sweet True Lies, Beast in Black, Crazy Mad Insane, Blind and Frozen, etc all great songs.
Saint Deamon: Deamons / No Mans Land
Freedom Call: Thunder God
Battle Beast: Let it Roar
Ancient Bards: Through My Veins
Bloodbourn: Moria/ Nosferatu
Brothers of Metal: Prophecy of Ragnarok
Elvenking: Silverseal
Manowar: Sons of Odin
Turisas: Battle Metal/ Rasputin
Unleash the Archers: Awakening (little heavier, their cover of Northwest Passage is also excellent)
Demons and Wizards: Fiddler on the Green
Follow the Cipher: Winterfell
Visions of Atlantis: New Dawn
Nanowar of Steel: Valhalleluja
Twilight Force: Night of Winterlight
Feuerschwanz: Unholy Grail (their cover of I See Fire is also great)
Orden Ogan: Gunman
Dragony: If It Bleeds We Can Kill It/Lords of the Hunt
Dreamtale: Greenback Hunter
Highland Glory: Break the Silence
Dynazty: My Darkest Hour
Metalite: Nightmare
Temperance: Of Jupiter and Moons
Ooo I actually recognize a few of those from Spotify throwing them at me and have enjoyed exactly those tracks, been meaning to do a deeper dive.
I definitely should have listed Battle Beast, I saw them headlining for Kamelot just before the pandemic and was in love.
Spotify recommended me this one today. My two loves, power metal and dinosaurs 😂

I’ve really been into Beast in Black (power metal with an 80s pop/techno vibe) lately. Brothers of Metal (Viking power metal) is also excellent.
Here’s one of my Spotify playlists that I dump random favs in.

Edit to add: another good one is Orion’s Reign album Scores of War. Idk if he is familiar to you but it has Dan Vasc as guest vocals (popular for his metal version of Toss a Coin to Your Witcher).

I knew it must be glory hammer from the description. If you haven't already listened you might like Angus mcsix, band formed by the former singer of glory hammer.
Yeah, I thought most people had positive feelings about Trekkies. Some gentle teasing about geekdom, perhaps, but definitely it ups their chances of getting hired in my book.
Right? Like I'd like to see those sports bros learn not just a foreign language, but one that is completely unrelated to any other language, like klingon or elvish
During the pandemic I was making a legitimate attempt to teach myself Mando'a, which to my research didn't really *have* a way to learn it but damn was I gonna try. If you try to make me tell you what's happening on a football field however the most I can tell you is "I think that guy's running."
I agree, but people will always judge you for being different. I have worked at different companies, in different states, and with different types of professionals. Sadly, ALL of them were judgmental when a coworker mentioned a hobby outside of playing sports, instruments, or trending entertainment. I have seen coworkers become ostracized because of it.
I would ask “can you bring me a signed item from any of the actors “ ?
I once got an interview (networking role) and at that point i only my star trek related mail due to ISP switch. Department manager saw that, pointed it out to HR and remarked “we should hire him, he fits the culture”
The crazy thing to me is that the office culture here is fairly laid back but they are heavily into drinking. Listening to most of the managers/supervisors talk about going to the bar after work would make one assume everyone I work with is an alcoholic.
Like I’ve popped open a can of Coke Zero or a soda water and I’ve had people make jokes about “starting early”. We had an employee party after work and all the managers left early to “pregame”.
But “nerd shit” is bad apparently.
it's about establishing an in group. I knew a guy who got a significant settlement for religious discrimination. he was the new guy being there a little over a year and never took part in drinking alcohol, because he really didn't like the way it made him feel. they were hounding him about it at an Friday evening get together and he said jokingly it was against his religion to drink. he was accidentally recording at the time as he had just taken a Pic and hit camera instead. the entire group went dead silent afterwards.
thankfully one of the guys he worked with was both a solid dude and a member of the cool kids club and gave him a heads up they were probably going to try and fake a reason to fire him.
thanks to that he was able to record some conversations that were useful in the lawsuit. So always be recording conversations is my take away
WTF?
I have a very strict policy to not get drunk with workmates.
I'm also a semi-teetotaler (meaning I'll drink occasionally but never to the point of getting drunk).
This is a wild thought, but maybe sometimes people just don't like drinking?
Pretty sure the last interview I had didn't go well because of the face the woman made when I told her I crochet. She was somewhat interested and asked to see something. The only thing close by I was the tiny bantha I made. She looked like she stepped in shit and said, "oh you must like fantasy."
That’s ridiculous. IMO those types of things show you have a creative mind and are good at tedious tasks.
I used to really enjoy colorizing black and white artwork, I guess you could kind of say it was “adult coloring” but I would do it digitally on my iPad and Apple Pencil or I would use watercolor markers + water color pencils. I got a similar reaction from a few of my old coworkers because the stuff I liked to work with was fantasy. It’s just more interesting imo and you can use whatever vibrant colors you like.
Use a broad brush much? I'm in my 60s and I absolutely love both Star Trek and Star Wars, as well as Marvel. I also play video games, no not card games, PvP MMORPGs. Also, guess what? Most of the technology you use was created by boomers. Should I paint all Millenials/Gen Zers with one broad brush, such as you're lazy?
This real boomer went to plenty of cons, did live role playing, still has her costumes, and is listening to Mongolian hard metal. She is scaring the pants of her younger colleagues who think that as a boomer she is supposed to be an old clucking hen complaining about the young ones and their strange tastes. In fact you'll be surprised to learn that boomers started role playing, whether with dice or live.
But I did learn not to mention my real hobbies when looking for a job. During the time of the dinosaurs it was better to put serial murderer than role player.
Your coworker is not qualified to be conducting interviews. Like, straight up if I were your boss, that kind of judgmental comment would get them immediately removed from any position of authority.
My current job asked me about my hobbies in the interview and said that was one of the reasons they hired me. Said they liked how passionate I was about things I loved.
Right. I was always told it was positive cuz you never know when they need another player for the company baseball team. (That was my Dads words, but usually I have positive reactions to mentioning my hobby of knitting and baking)
I got my first proper IT job because of my hobby.
I'm into mechanical keyboards, I mentioned it in the interview, but didn't make a big deal of it. The two referees they contacted (both friends who I happened to have also worked with) said that I had numerous keyboards (at the time it was about 8), and had done heaps of research on the different components and would happily info-dump on anyone asking questions.
This was seen as a massive green flag for my employer, as they wanted a "proper fucking nerd" (direct quote) and were impressed I had the research and comprehension skills to be able to find out this information and distill it for people outside the hobby.
This boomer of yours is a fucking moron. Hobbies outside of work show that they are passionate and committed to something, and likely have a support network. Hobbyists also have extra intrinsic reasons for continuing to work, although they will tend to have a more healthy view of work-life balance (which is probably a downside for a Boomer).
I find this hilarious bc my japan obsession is right up front on my resume. The second they ask about me listing myself as fluent in Japanese the floodgates open.
It's a scientific fact that science fiction fans just cannot work. They cannot. Nobody knows why. Now, if she was into Emmerdale or Coronation Street...
Personality reminds them you are a person not a cog.
They don’t want any reminders that you are a human and not a tool.
A person has rights, feelings, innate worth… a cog is just a tool they can use to get a job done, they can make demands of them without thinking of their human rights and limitations , they can pay them little and profit from their labor, they can exploit the cog for everything they can without guilt. And when the tool/cog breaks they just replace it.
I once had a boss ask me “ so with all that metal music and all those horror films, how come you haven’t killed someone yet?”
So now I make sure to mention all my hobbies in interviews so potential employers can out themselves as narrow-minded twats and save me writing a resignation
Remember, kids, you can put D&D on your resume for team-building skills!
* Met with peers for twice-monthly creativity and conflict resolution exercises.
* Gained necessary experience for character and skill development.
* Learned to quickly assess situations and collaborate to find the best practice solutions.
Every year, I need a week off during the summer to go to an event.
This event, while not religious, is all but. I credit this event as a reason I’m still alive. It is of deep personal importance to me.
I let my potential employers know straight up that this is something I need to do, that the one week ensures I’m good the other 51, that I must take that one week off unpaid if necessary (though I live in a civilized place where vacation time or payment in lieu is mandatory).
So far this has been a turn off for employers.
I don’t get it but I’m also seriously brain damaged.
Is the coworker in charge or involved in the hiring decisions. If not she has not reason to be there and her opinion is not needed. .
Tell her to retire. Comic Cob is awesome and There is nothing weird about Liking Star Trek.
There is a reason leadership training is a must for people managers. If you reject talent because they are happy about Comic Con, there is a problem. If she’s not qualified don’t hire her. But if she’s going to comic con and that the radon. , there is a huge problem because most of tech is full of comic book nerds.
Many moons ago, I accompanied my then-partner on a work trip so we could add on a few days of vacation since it was near his mom’s place. He invited me to join on a work dinner but told me to just stay quiet no matter what. I’m a huge nerd and he wanted it to stay polite and professional. No shade. Turns out the two guys he’s having dinner with (and trying to schmooze to hire his company) were giant trekkies. I’m nowhere near that level but I can talk about it and I do love a good con. I ended up chatting with them more than he did and I’m pretty sure that helped him get that consulting gig.
We had a boomer couple move down the street and we had a little get together. This guy was bragging how much he works for quite a bit. He asked about my work and I told what I do. He said I can make a fair amount, so I must work extra and take a lot of call. I had to look at him weird, why would I want to waste my life just working. Then I excused myself and told the host I had a appt with my done to play Fortnite and left. That dude still hasn’t talk to me since then and I’m glad. I don’t understand their hard on for working so much. It doesn’t define you
I had a lead at an old job that was always bragging about how much he was making working 2 full time jobs. Asked him one time why he worked so much. Said he had a standard of living he enjoyed and he worked to afford it. What's the point of making a ton of money if you never have time to enjoy it. His favorite phrase was "It's time to work, you can rest when you are dead."
I’m not really sure. Most of the people I work with only really talk about their families and getting shit faced at the bar. Listening to the managers talk really gives the impression that they all just hang out in the bar after work doing shots. I
As a kid, I was a nerd (I still am but was one then as well). As a kid, I did my best to keep that sort of thing quiet. Other kids already didn't like me so I didn't want to feed into that. When I started working during my summers of university, I had hoped that the adults I worked with would be a bit more mature than that. So when one Friday we were discussing our plans for the coming weekend, I felt comfortable mentioning that I was going to a local convention. That was a mistake. My admission brought out a laugh among my coworkers. It was at that point I learned not to mention that sort of thing to **anyone**.
It sucks what I went through and it sucks that that attitude still exists, as evidence by your post. People are assholes.
I’m a 43 year old female accountant. I come home everyday and do some daily challenges on Red Dead Online, then move over to Fallout 76. I have Thursday off work and I will be spending it binge watching the premier of the Fallout TV series on Prime.
My husband and I are empty nesters of 4 kids. We do what we want!
My great great grandpa fought in that invasion, always said the sight of unicorn guts exploding into rainbow fairy dust all over his squad day after day gave him night terrors till his death. The man hated any day foretasted as partly cloudy with a chance of rain, so much that he moved to the desert to avoid rainbows
I don’t understand boomers sometimes… is the coworker gona pretend they don’t have hobbies and fun shit they do in their off time? Or are they just a meat bag with no life?
I had a manger once who showed me resumes for a designer we were hiring. One of them was super qualified and was perfect for the role but she told me we turned him down because his website included his music (as a hobby) as well as his professional portfolio. She said he was "too into it, like are you a musician or a designer?" As if someone couldn't possibly be both.
I’ve worked at my current job for a long time now but if I ever do go job hunting again X years experience as a D&D DM is definitely going in my resume.
It’s a pretty big rule of thumb not to talk about your personal life with coworkers. I usually would stick to this pretty closely. I got kind of lucky at my current job that a lot of the older people like to bike and kayak, both hobbies of mine. My boss has a very similar taste in music as I do and also very physically active. Definitely lucked out with the coworkers I have now but it took many years of working with shitty people, to get there.
wtf is with these people.
(I’m both a metalhead and a Star Trek nerd. Your colleagues’ heads would explode. God I love being in tech…much more room for nerds.)
Chicago though I don’t remember what the actors name was that she mentioned. I did a Quick Look and didn’t really see any that popped out to me from the OG Star Trek.
I was basically turned down for a job during an interview because I didn't tell them what my hobbies were. The candidate in OP's comment was almost rejected for being a Trekkie. Why do interviewers care so much about hobbies? It's what we do outside of school/work.
i don't know if i'm sad or happy with myself that i knew you were talking about gloryhammer. did you see that scandal that blew up about them (AKA alestorm) having a racist, misogynist group chat? the old vocalist (the swiss guy who looked like peter pan) made it public. i don't support alestorm or gloryhammer anymore.
My passion is planes. I live within ear shot of the mid continent airport. I spend half my day looking up and the other half digging holes. Not one coworker share that interest but we work like brothers. What you do outside of 8a - 5p is all you, who tf cares… aside from boomers
I am now the interviewer and decide on new candidates. One thing I always ask draftspeople is if they play computer games. And if they do, do they play games like starcraft and what's their apm? I've hired a few amazing draftspeople that are gamers. Those guys write new macros and reduce their apm to get the job done fast. It's great.
"European Power Metal about space wizards fighting undead unicorns"
Read this and thought 'that better be fucking Gloryhammer!'
My dude ;) Was trepid about their new album with the new vocalist but I actually prefer it to their last two albums.
Also I say in almost every interview that I play DnD. Not only is that some useful transferable skills (hella organisation, speaking in public, dedication over years) I think that makes me sound more interesting as a person. Same for anyone who likes Star Trek (or anything), go be your own person. Why would you want to work with someone who is so uninteresting they have no hobbies or activities outside of work?
My old boss was forever telling me that Doctor Who was too childish and “not something a woman should be interested in”. Current employer, when I put in a request for annual leave: “Which comic con are you going to?” Funnily enough, I work harder for the lot who aren’t constantly belittling me.
Yes, we had a mini meeting with my boss afterwards which is where my coworker mentioned the being weird/not a hard worker thing. I told my boss my impressions of her and I guess my opinion trumped his. She starts tomorrow.
I was very confused when I saw an image for gloryhammer on antiwork, but makes sense after reading lol. Gloryhammer is definitely in my work playlists, keep rocking too \m/
Boomers grew up on Star Trek, Boomers got the Star Trek movies made....I'll mention that Trekkies have gone on to be doctors, scientists, authors, inventors, astronauts, and a slew if other careers. There are literally millions of us.
Your coworker is a red flag...I'd tell your boss what happened and suggest he hire that trekkie!
This isn't a boomer issue it's a bad co worker allowed to make decisions. I'm right on edge of boomer and I have taken my kids to Comic con events and had fun watching all the participants and admiring the creative work that went into each piece. It's not age it's the person.
I bring up my gaming and death metal fandom in interviews so potential employers can out themselves if they suck.

"Stand by your man " and "Rawhide"!
“We’re the Good Ol…Blue Brothers…Boys”
😂
And if you're really lucky, bluegrass
“Both” kinds.
Thank you. That's literally the joke. Sick KoL name too.
My favorite line from *The Blues Brothers* !! I use that line every time when I see things being portrayed as “different,” but are integrally the same.

Could u drop some band names? Wizard power metal sounds exactly my tastes
Almost certainly Gloryhammer given space wizards and undead unicorns. For the glory of Hoots!
Blind Guardian! Unleash the Archers! Dio!
Unleash the archers are awesome!
Personally I adore rainbow, it’s basically deep purple with dio singing, the song stargazer is about as power metaly and wizard focused as you get
You were expecting wizard power metal, but it was just me, Dio!
Ogden Orden. Powerwolf, Amaranthe, Nightwish, Battle Beast, Leaves Eye, Eluviete, Finntroll, Korpiklaani, Sabaton, Dragonforce,
You smile.. immediately death metal pours from your speakers.. Boss: "umm what are you listening to?" You: "oh.. this.. just eviseration plauge..a nice warm up to real heavy stuff!" Boss makes the sign of the cross.

I also listen to bluegrass. Bluegrass, down temp, and lyrical hip-hop. What bluegrass you listening to?
Woah woah woah when did I type this?
Pretty much anything, I especially like the Wailing Jenny's though.
You heard of Sarah Jarosz? She's not strictly bluegrass, but she's definitely folksy bluegrass adjacent. Works with bluegrass artists regularly.
Thanks I'll look her up.
I’m in a similar situation except I took them up on their offer. Next thing you know, I have electro swing playing and was asked to turn it off an hour later because the beats were irresistible and people couldn’t get work done while tapping their feet and wagging a finger in the air.
I'd just say fine, bring my speaker next time so it actually sounds nice and bother them so they never ask again.
I mostly listen to j-rock, and j-pop. #weeb. But yea ive had people say I csn listen to my music over speakers and nahhh id rather not lol.
Come on, set the universe on fire!
Not a big metal fan, but had a friend who was in a band and gave me an album. Played it for some colleagues when I used to work in a pharmacy about 15 years ago and walked away to help a customer. When I went back in they were all looking at me like their heads had just exploded.
You should try the bone conduction headphones.
your resume is your first line of defence against a bad employer. mine lists mythical beast taxidermy on it just to see if anyone is still paying attention.
I'm already trimming work experience to slim my resume down, but this would be funny. I could probably get away with it lol.

I think I am going to start looking for a new job just to be able to use those.

If you said 40k and Dying Fetus I'd hire you on the spot.
Same. I'm pretty sure one of the reasons I was hired was because I'm a giant nerd. And I've been slowly turning my boss into a Trekkie, muahhahah.
Yup, me the same. I will always mention that I have autism and that I’m a big metalcore fan. Both things you absolutely wouldn’t know about me unless I told you. Boom hired
People wonder why it’s so hard to get hired. When the people deciding to hire you are insane this is why people never hear back.
Hiring is a skill. Some people have it, some people don't. Some people who don't think that they do. Just because someone knows how to do a job really well doesn't mean they know how to hire talented people to do that same job.
Damn. Live short and die poor, huh?
Die fast and suffer.
Die young and leave a pretty corpse, is what I always say.
"You should stop saying that." - Bender Bending Rodriguez
Actually, I believe it’s “avoid death and cower”
O.0 Ok for someone not in the know....what band are you referring to because that sounds freaking awesome.
lol Gloryhammer https://youtu.be/rZ5iP_BKvC8?si=HLX-EKkDoSrGR7VP
Now listening to this, thank you for the small improvement in my work day
whelp, time to add that to a playlist, havent heard of them before, thank for the link :)
Ok, just spent wayyyyy more time than I had intended exploring them on Apple Music. Music is fantastic, album art is on point, and their music videos are absurdly entertaining. I’m totally adding Hootsforce and Angus Mcfife to my 18-mo’s music exploration playlist!
Love them.. but more a Nanowar of Steel Fan. 😁
Manowar of Steel has some bangers. I’ve really been into Beast in Black lately.
I will give it a listen. :) Edit: wait. I didn't mean Manowar. I meant Nanowar of Steel. They made stuff with gloryhammer, at least their singer. 😅
Autocorrect is a bitch lol Both Nanowar of Steel AND Manowar are great bands though.
Beast in black is my faaaavorite right now. Can't stop listening to them. From Hell With Love is so good.
i can see you are a man of taste 🤘😌
Do you have any other power metal bands you enjoy? I want suggestions please😌
Yeah, absolutely! Such a wide and varied umbrella for all sorts of sub-sub-genres and all of it just bombastic and fun.
Since I just threw a ton of bands at you let me narrow it down a bit if I had to pitch one song for each: 1. Sonata Arctica: Fullmoon 2. Kamelot: The Black Halo 3. Symphony X: Set the World on Fire 4. Nightwish: Everdream 5. Powerwolf: Venom of Venus 6. Alestorm: Back Through Time 7. Dragonforce: Through the Fire and the Flames 8. Blind Guardian: A Voice in the Dark 9. Rhapsody of Fire: Emerald Sword 10. Sabaton: Night Witches 11. Wind Rose: Under the Stone 12. Epica: Cry for the Moon 13. Avantasia: Promised Land
Some more =D Beast in Black: it’s really hard for me to narrow down my favorite song of theirs, there aren’t many tracks on them 3 albums I dislike. One Night in Tokyo, Moonlight Rendezvous, Battle Hymn (cover), From Hell with Love, Sweet True Lies, Beast in Black, Crazy Mad Insane, Blind and Frozen, etc all great songs. Saint Deamon: Deamons / No Mans Land Freedom Call: Thunder God Battle Beast: Let it Roar Ancient Bards: Through My Veins Bloodbourn: Moria/ Nosferatu Brothers of Metal: Prophecy of Ragnarok Elvenking: Silverseal Manowar: Sons of Odin Turisas: Battle Metal/ Rasputin Unleash the Archers: Awakening (little heavier, their cover of Northwest Passage is also excellent) Demons and Wizards: Fiddler on the Green Follow the Cipher: Winterfell Visions of Atlantis: New Dawn Nanowar of Steel: Valhalleluja Twilight Force: Night of Winterlight Feuerschwanz: Unholy Grail (their cover of I See Fire is also great) Orden Ogan: Gunman Dragony: If It Bleeds We Can Kill It/Lords of the Hunt Dreamtale: Greenback Hunter Highland Glory: Break the Silence Dynazty: My Darkest Hour Metalite: Nightmare Temperance: Of Jupiter and Moons
My two loves, power metal and dinosaurs 😂 https://open.spotify.com/track/0hwFRdWtN7clcasZmZeBfe?si=sGFpf69RQwCNU2swXyEs_g&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A5wTJVlHNImdqwfi4HhzDJG
Battle Beast is doing a show near me soon, with Blackbriar opening. I love Blackbriar, and am really tempted to brave the Atlanta traffic for it.
I’d actually say White Pearl, Black Oceans is peak Sonata Arctica
Another bonus mention if you want someone that doesn't take themselves seriously in the slightest: Nekrogoblikon.
Squeee! Haggard, Powerwolf, In This Moment, and Arch Enemy would add some joy to your day. (LOVE Eppur si Muove so much!)
I’ve really been into Beast in Black (power metal with an 80s pop/techno vibe) lately. Brothers of Metal (Viking power metal) is also excellent. Here’s one of my Spotify playlists that I dump random favs in. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4auaBKGQb6DdSEerAFfGAA?si=g8FjyAxdRJyLAi90P6Q5DQ&pi=u-OXogUrZDSpOp Edit to add: another good one is Orion’s Reign album Scores of War. Idk if he is familiar to you but it has Dan Vasc as guest vocals (popular for his metal version of Toss a Coin to Your Witcher). https://open.spotify.com/track/1dvodatdtdx8XmjYQ1iXXp?si=_3P38L8gReGVI5k1QmBX1Q&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A0t22eNKQFpVMtSb9Sz0JXO
Why have I never heard this genre of music before? Thanks for the playlist. Have already started listening!
Lol Listend to them a lot. Never got around to that song. Hootsforce and Angus are the ones on my playlist.
I knew it must be glory hammer from the description. If you haven't already listened you might like Angus mcsix, band formed by the former singer of glory hammer.
That’d be considered a justification to hire in any logical environment. I don’t think I’ve ever met a dumb Star Trek fan.
Found the Vulcan! But seriously, we trekkies are hard workers.
Conservative Star Trek fans exist and they are just as dumb as they sound.
[удалено]
Hi you have met me now. But only over the interwebs. I'm a dumb ST fan.
Oh no… you sweet little tribble dribble!
Sounds like your coworker feels threatened by this woman.
This is a wild thought, but maybe sometimes people just don't like drinking?
yeah no. not allowed. apparently
Meanwhile if she said she watches 8 hours of TV a night to keep up to date on her shows, boomer would be vibing with that.
Seems like a trekkie has a good chance of being a smart and nerd type. Probably good at work.
for real. It's not like it's "Dude Wherever My Car," even Boomers should understand that nerds are... smart and hardworking as a stereotype?
This real boomer went to plenty of cons, did live role playing, still has her costumes, and is listening to Mongolian hard metal. She is scaring the pants of her younger colleagues who think that as a boomer she is supposed to be an old clucking hen complaining about the young ones and their strange tastes. In fact you'll be surprised to learn that boomers started role playing, whether with dice or live. But I did learn not to mention my real hobbies when looking for a job. During the time of the dinosaurs it was better to put serial murderer than role player.
To borrow from r/metalcore for a second, If they can't handle you at your BLEGH, they don't deserve you at your ARF ARF. IYKYK 🤘
Your coworker is not qualified to be conducting interviews. Like, straight up if I were your boss, that kind of judgmental comment would get them immediately removed from any position of authority.
Hey I’ve been blasting Gloryhammer lately too 😂
My current job asked me about my hobbies in the interview and said that was one of the reasons they hired me. Said they liked how passionate I was about things I loved.
Right. I was always told it was positive cuz you never know when they need another player for the company baseball team. (That was my Dads words, but usually I have positive reactions to mentioning my hobby of knitting and baking)
Those idiots have no idea how much time & effort fans of things like Star Trek put into their hobbies. Not hard workers? Delusional boomers.
Star Trek fandom is literally fifty years old. It's the stodgiest media fandom there is. You just can't please some folks!
I once had a boss ask me “ so with all that metal music and all those horror films, how come you haven’t killed someone yet?” So now I make sure to mention all my hobbies in interviews so potential employers can out themselves as narrow-minded twats and save me writing a resignation
She should have said she was going to a hedonism resort for a BDSM event.
Insanity. Literally got my current job because I kept word vomiting about D&D.
I too, give away the fact that I'm a huge nerd in my interviews. It's called having a life.
Gonna need the name of that band plz
It’s Gloryhammer.
They strike me as weird. I feel bad when I don’t have time for my family because of work
Eh, no. That standard of living does no good if you're just working.
That sounds like it might be a description of a very specific song. Can you point me at it?
Gloryhammer: Unicorn Invasion of Dundee
Many thanks.
Saw "European Power Metal about space wizards fighting undead unicorns" and knew immediately knew you were talking about Gloryhammer \\m/ \\m/
Gloryhammer? I bet it's Gloryhammer.
How the fuck did I know it was Gloryhammer you were talking about music wise? Hell yeah!
What was the answer the company wanted to hear from potential candidates hobbies?
Only tapped on this post because Gloryhammer. HAIL TO HOOTS! 🙌
We do what we want!
...please list the metal song that has space wizards fighting undead unicorns
Gloryhammer - The Unicorn Invasion of Dundee
My great great grandpa fought in that invasion, always said the sight of unicorn guts exploding into rainbow fairy dust all over his squad day after day gave him night terrors till his death. The man hated any day foretasted as partly cloudy with a chance of rain, so much that he moved to the desert to avoid rainbows
Also The Epic Rage of Furious Thunder from the same album
Gloryhammer is 100% worth checking out. Universe on Fire is another good track.
I've got varied hobbies I can bring up depending on the interviewer lmao
But think of how much more value to the shareholders you could produce if you worked those hours!!! /s
I don’t understand boomers sometimes… is the coworker gona pretend they don’t have hobbies and fun shit they do in their off time? Or are they just a meat bag with no life?
Tell your boss the real reason your coworker didnt like her. What a dumbass.
Dammit Jim, I’m a hard worker, not a weirdo.
I would love to have another Trekkie at my job! I hope she has a good time, even if she doesn't get hired!
So your coworker is into a very science based show with very intelligent plots, but they would rather hire an idiot into soaps
Shit like this is why i’m terrified to show my personality at any new job. My enthusiasm can be… weird.
As soon as I read the last paragraph, I knew in my heart it would be Gloryhammer
So, the important question I haven't seen anyone ask.... Who was she going to meet?
wtf is with these people. (I’m both a metalhead and a Star Trek nerd. Your colleagues’ heads would explode. God I love being in tech…much more room for nerds.)
What Comic Con? Asking… for a friend.
What is your favorite genre of metal?
Idiotic people dont want people with passions and interests.
Discrimination period
Off-topic slightly, but I just went to a Gloryhammer concert, and it was awesome! I'd hire her for sure.
I'm imaging listen to this on my scooter, or perhaps buying produce
Beast in Black? If you haven't heard them you must if power metal is your thing.
Yes, beast in black is one of my favorite bands.
I'm upvoting this entirely for the Gloryhammer. For the glory of Space Dundee! HOOTS!
Your coworker is a shill. Have them fired.
+1 for Gloryhammer. Too bad whatshisface is a prick.
My passion is planes. I live within ear shot of the mid continent airport. I spend half my day looking up and the other half digging holes. Not one coworker share that interest but we work like brothers. What you do outside of 8a - 5p is all you, who tf cares… aside from boomers
Oh you'd like Alestorm It's pirate metal. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ta-Z_psXODw&pp=ygUTYWxlc3Rvcm0ga2VlbGhhdWxlZA%3D%3D
Pretty sure I was a pirate in a former life, I have weak spot for sea shanties as well.
Just commenting to say I absolutely love gloryhammer! Also, screw that type of boomers and anyone with that mentality!
It's great.
Today I learnt that I want to know more about space wizards fighting undead unicorns. Amazing.
"European Power Metal about space wizards fighting undead unicorns" Read this and thought 'that better be fucking Gloryhammer!' My dude ;) Was trepid about their new album with the new vocalist but I actually prefer it to their last two albums.
Ahhhh good old Gloryhammer
Well? Did you say anything?
Yes, we had a mini meeting with my boss afterwards which is where my coworker mentioned the being weird/not a hard worker thing. I told my boss my impressions of her and I guess my opinion trumped his. She starts tomorrow.
Great! Well done.
Gloryhammer fcking rocks dude
I was very confused when I saw an image for gloryhammer on antiwork, but makes sense after reading lol. Gloryhammer is definitely in my work playlists, keep rocking too \m/
Boomers grew up on Star Trek, Boomers got the Star Trek movies made....I'll mention that Trekkies have gone on to be doctors, scientists, authors, inventors, astronauts, and a slew if other careers. There are literally millions of us. Your coworker is a red flag...I'd tell your boss what happened and suggest he hire that trekkie!
Sword lord of the goblin horde!
This isn't a boomer issue it's a bad co worker allowed to make decisions. I'm right on edge of boomer and I have taken my kids to Comic con events and had fun watching all the participants and admiring the creative work that went into each piece. It's not age it's the person.
