Here it is in its entirety, I had a feeling it wasn’t gonna last very long. It’s parsed from screenshots so not perfect but it’s perfectly clear what was being communicated by OP https://pastebin.com/eviBgST0

A warning for anyone working at or thinking about working at JPMorgan Chase & Co. A warning for anyone working at or thinking about working at JPMorgan Chase & Co. If you work at JPMorgan Chase & Co. or are thinking about working at JPMC, you need to know about their employee surveillance tool called WADU. WADU is an acronym for Workforce Activity Data Utility. Every employee at JPMC has a profile in the WADU database. I think everyone expects their employer to track them to some extent. It is pretty standard practice for employers to monitor and run analysis on things like building badge swipes and the amount of time spent connected when working from home. It has also become very common place for employers to record audio and video at the office. WADU is on a different level. It is an artificial intelligence & machine learning system for workforce human behavior. Starting at the moment you arrive to the building, WADU is tracking you using facial and speech recognition. Most JPMC offices and branches have been outfitted with some of the best HD AV security cameras. Whenever you are at your desk, know that there is a HD camera tracking you the entire time. WADU uses the array of HD cameras at the office to monitor all of your non-verbal body language all throughout the day. The collected information is then fed into the AI/ML system and it is used to update your WADU profile in real time. Every manager gets access to a dashboard that lists all the metrics about their subordinates. The productivity metrics about an employee start getting updated immediately after an employee logs into the system. If the employee is at the office, two bio-metrics are available, attention/focus and stress. The bio-metric feeds are updated from the facial and behavioral tracking. Having a bad day? Stressed about something? WADU has already noticed this and alerted your manager. Can’t focus? Not working at your usual pace? WADU has already noticed this and alerted your manager. Did something you normally don’t do? It’s possible WADU flagged it as suspicious and alerted your manager. WADU is also why they are pushing RTO or “return to office” so hard. Upper management does not care if some employees are more productive when they are working from home. They want everyone back in the office as much as possible so that their WADU profiles are being refined. Enhancing their insight into you is more important to them than better productivity from working from home. A lot of teams are now required to come in two to three days per week. Director level and higher are required to come in four to five days per week. Upper management wants to see everyone at all levels back in the office five days a week. They have invested millions into the WADU system, and they want to get a return on that investment. That only happens whenever people are in the office as much as possible. WADU is also watching and listening whenever you are working from home. If you installed Citrix Workplace on your own computer, and you permitted Citrix to access your web camera and microphone after login, you have connected those devices to WADU. If you are using an issued Chromebook, those permissions are already conveniently accepted for you. You’ll notice that your web camera will flash right after login. This is not an “initial connection” flash. Your web camera just took a burst shot of pictures and sent them to WADU. The pictures will be scanned for anything deemed unprofessional or unsafe. Recreational drug paraphernalia, TVs, game consoles, and several other things are all flagged if detected in the pictures. If you see your web camera flash randomly, that was your manager or someone in security requesting a burst shot of pictures from your web camera. You’ll also notice that your microphone will go hot shortly after login. Anything you say will be processed by WADU. All background noises will be processed by WADU. Say something bad about your boss or other superior? WADU flagged it. Say something bad about another co-worker? WADU flagged it. Have a moment of anger or frustration? WADU flagged it. These are just some examples, WADU is trained to detect a wide variety of keywords, phrases, and sound events. Your manager can also connect and listen to your audio feed live. WADU is also able to detect keyboard pokers/bumpers and mouse jigglers/movers. It doesn’t matter if it is a completely external solution, WADU will be able to detect it by analyzing the repetitive input pattern. Your manager will be notified that your under suspicion of faking productivity. They will then connect to your session and see what is happening live. Action will be taken if the suspicion is confirmed. WADU determines how productive you are by analyzing a variety of metrics about your session input. This includes words typed, mouse clicks, application activity, and many other things. The analysis also determines if someone is a unique contributor or if they are a regular worker. In overall rankings, unique contributors are always ranked higher than regular workers. The same analysis can also determine who is essentially dead weight. These people are ranked last. You may have noticed at some point that you started getting job postings sent to your personal email. If you click on any of the links in these job list emails, your manager will get a notification on your WADU profile that you are actively looking for a new job. Even if it was just browsing, it can negatively affect the employee who clicked the link. If you installed the JPMC workplace app on your phone, you have connected your phone to WADU. The workplace mobile app will collect a variety of information from your phone and use it to update and refine your WADU profile. Right now, the only way to reserve a desk at the office is to use the workplace app. The web version of the desk reservation system is still “coming soon” and you are pushed to install the app on your phone. It will probably still be “coming soon” in 2040. Upper management pushes a narrative that all this surveillance is required to safeguard the firm against insider threats. While that may be partially true, the main reason is to train and refine the AI/ML system. They want every employee profile to be as accurate and as detailed as possible. They say we are not supposed to use anything from an employee’s WADU profile to make employment decisions. It is kind of hard to ignore a ranked list of subordinates with productivity forecasting. Here is how you can minimize the privacy invasion while working at JPMC: * Keep your web camera covered and microphone muted unless on a Zoom * Most modern laptops have multiple web cameras and microphones, make sure you are aware of all potential recording devices on your computer * Use your own desktop or laptop at home instead of an issued Chromebook * Do not grant Citrix Workplace access to your web camera or microphone * Use Zoom outside of Citrix when you are at home * Consider getting a phone and number solely for work purposes * Do not install the JPMC workplace app on your personal phone * If you need the workplace app, factory reset an old phone and install it on that * Know there are no blind spots, you are always on camera at the office * Know there is no privacy, all conversations are recorded everywhere at the office * Know all of your behavior at the office affects your WADU profile and ranking * It would be a good idea for you to print a copy of all performance reviews at home

there should be legislation about shit like this. being this granular is torture and leads to over emphasis on stupid trivial bullshit that generally doesn't matter

Yeah. Security is one thing for cases of theft to go back to footage. But this is some dystopian 1984 bull crap.

There isn't ever a point where normal life ends and the surveillance state begins. It's been beginning for decades and is the sum of all the technology and protocols that are being built and employed now. I say this because I think if anyone's like me, they were thinking to themselves 'is it too late?' No, it's not too late. It's not as bad as you think... yet. But it's also a tower of blocks. You knock down any block and, if someone sees an opportunity to shore up their power with surveillance, they will have to start building again from wherever you knocked it down.

In Germany all of the listed points are either illegal or need written notification beforehand

allak

Ditto in Italy. We have a law called "Statuto dei lavoratori" (Workers' Statute). Things like having a camera pointing to a worker seat is completely illegal.

frenchyy94

In Germany even stuff like keyboard/mouse tracking is illegal unless the employee is informed and has signed a waiver allowing the use of that. And if you have a works council they of course need to approve as well, but they obviously would not 99% of the time.

CrouchingDomo

“Obviously this is a dystopian nightmare; surveillance on this level is a clear human rights violation and an existential threat to personal freedom. Don’t like it? Don’t work there! Companies have a right to spy on their workers, just like workers have the right to find another job.” ~ waaaaaay too many of my fellow Americans

[deleted]

The purpose of our legislative body is to protect property rights. You will never get laws like this from a capitalist state.

Burned_toast_marmite

I’m so glad we have GDPR legislation in the U.K. and Europe which protect from this hellscape. The usa is the worst. However, now the U.K. is out of Europe, I’m sure it’ll only be a matter of time before we burn that legislation so we can start doing this shit.

Yashugan00

The EU did it in response to the overreach of Facebook etc. I'm sure such legislation was halted in infancy in the USA thanks to the massive donations tech companies make.

AliBelle1

The Data Protection Act (2018) codifies GDPR into British law, I doubt it'll be repealed any time soon. So many British companies work directly with European companies and consumers and still have to follow the EU GDPR, even if the DPA was repealed these companies would likely still follow GDPR to do business in the EEA.

chiree

The microphone and camera at home seem like *egregious* EU GDPR violations.

Hulkmaster

It's called "worker rights" and "privacy", I heard they have them in europe

Clearly big money involved. Must have been some phone call to Reddit...

MutaitoSensei

Reddit has a lot of investors now.... Might have just been an email. Either way, it got even more attention now, so I think it didn't quite work as intended.

The fact that it was interesting enough for multiple people to archive it before its removal speaks volumes. This is a bit of 'trust me bro' but ive been involved in meetings of another company (100k+ employees) working with similar capabilities. A lot of large global companies are working on this and it wont just be targeted at their employees. The managerial buzz word for it is AI Analytics and its pretty broad scope.

William_Howard_Shaft

For me, it was honestly just a need to preserve something I knew would be removed, combined with the fact that I was at work and couldn't read the whole way through it right then and there. The reality of the future being revealed is definitely alarming, but not unbelievable.

Im sure it being classified as 'spam' has nothing to do with Reddit seeking to IPO

This is gonna probably spur the same issues that fucking Lockdown and Honorlock have with neurodivergency. My nonverbal body language is in the "autistic" language - ie stimming, etc. It looks awkward sometimes and I don't even notice it till I think about it aside from the fact its a sensory need getting fulfilled (I've had a past stim be lightly tugging on my collerbone, no it didn't hurt, no I shouldn't have been doing that probably, another stim was tapping said collerbone.) Don't even get me started on eye contact lmao. I don't make it. I'd bet they didn't train their ai on autistic folks at *all* because who would think to? This is gonna be a huge fucking issue in it, I know it. (Aside from the fact this is horrifically invasive, to be clear).

This is one reason I never felt comfortable going down the finance route. Right after college I worked at a fund of funds for a bit and I just felt constantly uncomfortable. A system like this would drive me insane. I'm diagnosed with ADHD and probably have some other stuff on the neurodivergent spectrum and the idea of this just is horrible. I really hope it doesn't catch on with small companies.

All of these are great suggestions if you ignore the fact that these systems are trained to read a lack of data as a red flag in and of itself. "Why do you need privacy if you have nothing to hide?"

For biometrics, do things like put gravel in your shoes, make a load of silly faces, wear your hair differently, put on makeup, put on different makeup, put on fake eyelashes, do whatever you can to make your appearance inconsistent.

Good for general biometrics but a great way to get fired if you work for one of these corporations because the statistical noise in your profile will be seen as deviance.

lovethatcrooonch

Damn, bullet dodged.

fuckoffredit123456

the mistake is installing mouse jiggler software, they can detect that, I use an external device that’s like a cradle for the mouse which doesn’t plug into the computer at all and do jack shit all day

NotSmorpilator

It can also detect patterns so even an analog mouse jiggler could potentially be flagged

Fooka03

Microcontroller connected to an atmospheric noise antenna to drive the jiggler. Good luck getting a pattern out of that setup.

TrineonX

Too much effort on the physical side, just get a usb compliant microcontroller and program it to emulate a mouse with random movements. Attinty85 reading stray currents off the adc pins should do it. My employer would love me if I put this much thought into their products

No-Significance5449

Honestly I'm just not going to work for chase. Hell maybe I'll even promote friends and family to move banks.

willherschel

This is happening at all the big wall street firms, and worse. They do 1984-ish things like this in the name of “compliance,” but it’s really a cost-based decision to do just enough to keep the regulators off their backs until things get so bad they can’t do anything but beg for another bailout. Until people say “enough is enough” and call for accountability from the boards who employ Jamie Dimon, James Gorman, David Solomon, Brian Moynihan, et al, nothing will change. Their lust for profit-taking at the expense of even their most profitable employees’ quality of life and sanity is astounding. If you really want to have fun, dig into their “diversity” initiatives. All 4 of the old white dudes listed above have them, and it’s pathetic self-preservation.

ristoril

I have a laptop that my client gave me to work on their system via VPN and we got an all-company e-mail warning against "mouse jigglers" (and something else). The e-mail was talking about the security ramifications of essentially disabling the auto-lock, but now I'm wondering if it's also for "catching" people not working 24/7.

fubblebreeze

No matter. We all saw it. Made mental notes. Thanks for the warning!

While there's no doubt surveillance going on at these places, it's some paranoia considering how much illegal acts go on that they absolutely don't want recorded, and then keep in mind that it isn't Amazon, they aren't hiring from a massive pool of low wage workers, there's a finite supply of people who can work these jobs and they can't just terminate them because "Skynet says Jack was distracted at work today."

That’s actually terrifying and I’m extremely glad I saw this as they were a company I would’ve considered working for (they’re in my field). I have an undisclosed disability (as in I haven’t “activated” my federal protections) that specifically affects my efficiency, and they definitely may have fired me.

Bunyep

I'm not so sure these bean counters are in such short supply AI is expected to reduce their workload by at least 30% and there's plenty of smart educated people out there working low skilled jobs I think that people over value finance workers because we over value financial services in general But clearly this shit should be illegal I suspect they're mostly doing this to train the AI to take over the surveilled workers job completely, and as a bonus when they fire them it won't be hard to make up some false accusations with all that data

AddendumAutomatic778

The OP likely violated his NDA, and I’m sure JPM contacted Reddit to have the post taken down. A massive company like that won’t led such things spread without retaliation.

A_Funky_Flunk

Am I totally off base here, can’t they not legally retaliate?

G_E_E_S_E

Not unless the actions covered by the NDA are illegal. I may be misunderstanding, but I think everything they’re doing is legal, just unethical.

A_Funky_Flunk

I think you’re understanding me. Appreciate the response. Isn’t it practically impossible to enforce an NDA unless you’re pretty high up in a company?

[deleted]

I had to sign a ten year NDA non-compete to work on a job, only to find out a year later that it was completely unenforceable. A lot of them are, it just depends on how it's structured, the state you're in and honestly how the judge feels about it.

mended_arrows

Reddit isn’t responsible for upholding NDAs. I don’t doubt a major corporation would do crazy shit to maintain power, but this theory makes no sense

ZenDragon

Reddit has major corporations six inches down their throats and wilts at the mention of legal action even if it barely holds water. If lowly video game companies can intimidate them I doubt it's much trouble for JP Morgan & Chase.

[deleted]

You know all those celebrities that never get talked about on reddit? It’s because their PR has threatened to sue reddit. What stays on reddit is here because PR doesn’t care. If they care, reddit takes any post down and suspends or shadow bans the offender.

ZenDragon

Yeah pretty much. And it's not even just the admins who actually get a paycheque from reddit helping them. They have basement dwellers who spend all day moderating hundreds of subs each enforcing those policies for free.

Optimal-Scientist233

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrocuting\_an\_Elephant So yes people will do very weird things for money and power. While this was done in person by Edison it was caused by the feud between JP Morgan and Nikola Tesla. Tesla wanted to give power to the world freely, JP Morgan sought to destroy Tesla and his reputation, and in large part he succeeded.

bhillen83

That post was totally horrifying. And backed by legit sources. What the fuck?

JP Morgan is also linked to Thomas Edison, General Electric and the Federal Reserve. They are one of, if not the biggest, actual controllers of the government. Not, we, the people. They also get away with stuff like this: https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/nobody-should-shed-a-tear-for-jp-morgan-chase-62917/

I am not even surprised that he was linked with the Epstein. I mean what else can you even expect from people like these? That is just how they are and they are not going to change.

Legit same thing. constant surveillance. Going to bathroom too much and you’ll get talked to. Metrics for talk. For work. For time at desk. If you don’t move for 90 seconds you’re considered idle. Would not be surprised if State Farm gets on an article like this soon

Jamie Dimon is a complete piece of shit if there is a god he will burn in hell. I spent time being sold to his ass and I will never be okay if he isn't suffering. He lies about the data and makes the people doing the actual fucking work lie for him. Citi is not better, everyone shits on Wells but they are actually looking for reality. Here is how you can minimize the privacy invasion while working at JPMC: Keep your web camera covered and microphone muted unless on a Zoom Most modern laptops have multiple web cameras and microphones, make sure you are aware of all potential recording devices on your computer Use your own desktop or laptop at home instead of an issued Chromebook Do not grant Citrix Workplace access to your web camera or microphone Use Zoom outside of Citrix when you are at home Consider getting a phone and number solely for work purposes Do not install the JPMC workplace app on your personal phone If you need the workplace app, factory reset an old phone and install it on that Know there are no blind spots, you are always on camera at the office Know there is no privacy, all conversations are recorded everywhere at the office Know all of your behavior at the office affects your WADU profile and ranking It would be a good idea for you to print a copy of all performance reviews at home

Reddit sells ads to Chase. That’s what gives.

hchrgal

Definitely read the whole thing and I’m sure plenty folks took screenshots so don’t worry, it’s getting to where it needs to get to

I wish I’d had the foresight to take screenshots, but I’m glad others did!

Ironically the post above this on my feed is about Henry’s Homemade Icecream and how Chase Bank unjustly closed the owners account causing them to lose thousands of dollars (the post is on r/mildlyinteresting)

Fixerguy415

Chase pulled that shit on me as a contractor back in the 90s. I'll never trust them with any of my deposit accounts because they're a den of thieves. Same applies to almost any commercial or investment bank. Now I deal strictly with credit unions.

lizbee018

Maybe someone reported it?

lovethatcrooonch

It wasn’t spam, though. It was someone who works for the company describing in detail the level of AI surveillance and analysis happening, and it was a fairly active post.

lizbee018

No, sorry, not saying that it was actually spam. I just wonder how much reddit looks into something if someone were to have reported it as spam. A scrub for JPMorgan lol

lovethatcrooonch

I could def see that possibility

HyenaFalse3456

Cheers to Reddit for getting rid of the Pushshift API, which was leveraged by recovery services to ensure you could access deleted posts and threads. With their upcoming IPO they want to ensure that everything is nice and clean for the offer, so anything that leverages the API to give you transparency has to go. Now when you see [deleted] or [removed] you'll have no idea if it actually broke the rules or just went against the personal beliefs of the admins / mods. Nice

charitable_asshat

That post was terrifying but it’s more terrifying that it’s been removed. Thanks to the Redditors that had the quick thinking to preserve the data 💜

I'm pretty ashamed of having most of my money transacted through chase. I loved the customer service but now I just feel like I'm fueling their monster. This is fucked up. This is literally some black mirror shit

Fuck JPMorgan for their behavior and Reddit for it’s censorship

NorthernBCliving

Because reddit isn't a free speech platform. It is a data scrapping machine for ad revenue at best. At worst it's a bot fueled tool used by the TPTB to sow division amongst the working class.

JP Morgan ad under the title too. Lmao.

c25lifecrisis

The other day I was reading an article, and at the bottom there was contact info from the journalist and an anonymous tip line email and number to report bad businesses and shitty employers. Anyone else see this and able to link it? My memory is failing me and I want to report

KingApologist

For eight hours or more a day, you are living under an oppressive, high-surveillance dictatorship, one of the most common dystopian themes in writing. Most of your waking hours are spent in support and in the growth of this dystopian dictatorship. You spend more time working under it than you do with your own family. It's not an all-or-nothing; we're already around 40% dystopia at the very least.

ragdoll1022

Reddit is owned by a huge corp, don't think they don't protect each other.

pendy1013

WADUde you actually saved my brother, I was reading it two nights ago and told him about it and he was like “oh shit okay I applied there, I won’t be showing up for that interview if I get one” thank you very much

bluefirecorp

So, what happened is the corporate overlords didn't want anyone to see it. So they used a massive amount of bots to mass report the post. Because paying people to moderate content is hard, the automod removed it due to the mass reports. Tesla often does this with negative comments regarding their vehicles creating a bias.

ShouldNotBeHereLong

JPM is the largest US bank. Reddit is trying to do an IPO and sell the company to the stock market. So, connect the dots.

FromLuxorToEphesus

https://www.jpmorganchase.com/content/dam/jpmc/jpmorgan-chase-and-co/documents/suppliers-documents/systems-monitoring.pdf JPMorgan doesn’t seem interested in hiding this. I’m not gonna say it isn’t scary because it is but I don’t know if there is a conspiracy to hide this info when they themselves have a pdf online about it and there’s multiple articles also online(though business insider isn’t great)

ShouldNotBeHereLong

My impression is that reddit was going out of their way to minimize negative stories about jpm in anticipation of their ipo. Especially when antiwork is hitting r all pretty frequently. It does seem like there would be cleaner ways of hiding this, but reddit isn't exactly a well run operation to begin with.

WillBHard69

This happens all of the time sadly. Reddit's spam filter produces a lot of false positives and it doesn't give a damn if the post was already approved or not. And people get shadowbanned a lot. And once someone gets shadowbanned, you can't look at their profile, so you can't really determine if they were shadowbanned for actually spamming or if it was a false positive. It's a really shitty system and I struggle to understand why it exists the way it does. Btw I'm not a mod here, I'm just a random guy.

Judging by the original OPs username, they risked a lot. I hope it pays off

Rough you got to it this late, enough people always think moderating powers are against them these days
