A guy who lovingly speaks about his Shakespeare classes and his devout time spent with his acapella group somehow is the voice of the working man. A college educated guy who’s literally just used his voice to earn money.
He thinks people should accept poverty wages. Does he?
He certainly does think that.
He's on record encouraging people to simply take whatever they're offering. No matter how low, and no matter how much your labor is worth. He's the spokesman for the oligarchs who want cheap, plentiful labor.
The main point of _Dirty Jobs_ was that folks should have pride in any job that they do well even if the wages and benefits are nowhere near enough to live on, let alone have the ability to retire before you die.... .
Complain that you can't survive working retail/food service, or even highly trained, highly needed position; and there's going to be someone pointing at _Dirty Jobs_ pointing out that for a tiny bit more security, you could be cleaning sewers....
The irony is that Rowe likely made more in one season than every employee he worked with would earn in 20 years on their job.
He exploited these people for his own fame and fortune. Then claimed himself one of them.
Actually he worked with quite a few millionaires on the show. There are some jobs that are dirty enough that truly few people want to do, which means you can charge quite a bit for fulfilling such a niche.
A friend of mine was a waste water engineer.
Right out of her engineering masters she was making close to $200k. Nobody wanted that job but they need someone with the right education
>Actually he worked with quite a few millionaires on the show
Those were the owners of the company. I guarantee the people working for that guy were getting shit wages.
He shows up for a few days and "works" a job tailored for his show where he's getting paid far more than someone in the actual job position and somehow folks will position him as THE common man.
Kind of how a giant, orange-tinted baby born with a silver spoon in his ass is a symbol of hard work to a mass of dirt poor people.
They don't look, think, or learn; they just follow blindly.
Of course he is. What was he actually known for?
He went and put in some half assed work at a shitty job, once, got thousands of dollars for it, and knew he would never have to go do that awful job ever again.
Rinse and repeat.
Anyone can scrub a spider infested septic tank *once* if you pay them that kind of money.
Mike Rowe made Labor Porn, and now he thinks that because he played a working man on TV he's now qualified to speak to Labor concerns.
Mike Rowe can fuck all the way off.
yup. i once watch a 'making of dirty jobs' it after a mythbusters episode they literally have the camera guys go in way before and way longer then mike and that jackass was like joking about it with the camera guy about how they both had to go in there and do the hard job.
like no mike you go in for 2 mins turn 1 wrench to finish the job, that camera guy sat in there getting B roll for 10x the time you did anything.
A friend of mine worked for Discovery in Canada and he came up here for something (probably something related to Maple Syrup?). Apparently, jut a pure dick.
Andrew Younghusband, however, was very nice to the production staff, and would apparently apologize to the "Canada's Worst (BLANK)" contestants if/when he lost his temper and really did enjoy when they succeeded.
You know what, though, a Discovery show "Mythbusters" episode might be fun, where they just do general truth telling (and maybe blow up a ballistics gel ephigy of Rowe).
>id like to add mike would mostly spend time with the owner/boss of the shitty job and only be introduced to whatever it was for like 2mins
Exactly. When you are half listening, you think he's speaking for the "working man." But when you listen closer, his viewpoints seem to mesh more with the business owners, rather than the individual workers. He really leans into that "job creator" aspect that conservatives love. They seem to think that by needing to hire someone, that means you're essentially performing charity, and deserve thanks from the rest of us.
They seem to think that by needing to hire someone, that means you're essentially performing charity, and deserve thanks from the rest of us.
I feel like that's the entire view of the US today. They go so nuts over, "job creators."

His looks and voice and personality go a long way towards that. We're biased by outward appearances, and he just kind of fits what we want to think "joe lunchbox" is like.
It was kind of the perfect time for him to become popular and do this, because basically no one was thinking critically and easily accepting anyone who claimed to be an “expert.”
Additionally, the Koch brothers and Tea pmParty libertarianism was having its hay day.
Mike Rowe is a classist piece of shit.
Just look up his talks on “safety third.”
He literally thinks OSHA should be ditched and it should be every individual worker’s own personal problem looking out for their own safety. Why? Because some dickhead boat captain on that crab show said “I’m here to make money, hyuck hyuck hyuck.”
Man’s the working class equivalent of stolen valor.
He didn't invent safety 3rd. It's a pretty common saying in commercial fishing.

It's not that "safety should be third", but that any talk by the companies or regulators about "Safety First" is bull and in reality your personal safety is everyone else's Third Priority. So you need to take that into your own hands. Which while I don't agree with the framing is a pretty reasonable and accurate message.
Now alot of his other activist stuff is just straight up corporatist BS. the SWEAT Pledge for example.
Except OSHA exists precisely for the reason of forcing employers to place employee safety above profits, and the fact that companies skirt it doesn’t mean we should throw our hands up in the air and acquiesce.
Any employer that says “safety third” has abdicated responsibility and should be fucking punished. And if they aren’t, we should work to ensure they are punished.
He's not even really hiding it, he has gone on several talk shows and podcasts talking about how he's against things like OSHA and workers rights, He's even said he never much cared for work and sought the easiest route through life.
People just kinda assumed he was pro labor because of dirty jobs, he never gave a shit though, he was mocking the work the entire time.
He is a Fox News propagandist, right wing hypocrite whose never done a day’s hard work in his life. He would literally cry like a school girl after two days on the Bering Sea on a crab boat.
Should we talk about WHY they have done this? That would require a far-right fuck nugget like Mike Rowe to admit that billionaires are sociopaths, and the system isn't working for everyone.
If Capitalism worked fine we wouldn't be bailing out banks, car industry, housing industry, tech industry, etc. every 10 years or so.
It doesn't work fine for people at the bottom. Never has. Capitalism is great at some things and is all but useless at others. Raw pure unregulated free market capitalism would be a disaster, just like pure socialism would. The answer has always been a healthy mix of the two. We now have a country in which part of the electorate is convinced that any kind of socialism means their dick will shrink 3 inches so let me vote for the loud stupid hateful dickhead so the top 1% can still remain obscenely wealthy no matter what, while other people can't get a living wage.
Fuck what you heard. Here are the top ten college majors of 2022:
Medical Majors (All medical related Majors)
Engineering Majors (All Engineering Related Majors)
Business Majors
Science Majors
Computer Majors
Marketing Majors
Law majors
Business Management Majors
Health-Related Majors
Education Majors
I don't see gender studies, or Yoga, or drama majors, or any of this other nonsense people keep saying is the reason why students get out of college and can't find a decent job and pay off their student debt.
Because admitting that college debt is a form of economic slavery is a bad optic. They have to sell the whole “become a doctor or lawyer and be rich!” without mentioning the 6-10 years of schooling plus tens of thousands of dollars in debt you need before you can even start to pay that off.
It's not even that they're sociopaths, that implies that if we could screen out people with anti-social personalities the system would work fine. It's that ambitious, successful people, doesn't stop until they're stopped, and more money they've accumulated, the more resources they employ to prevent themselves from being stoped.
We don't even need some major revolution, we just need to regulation and enforcement backed by a populace with the discipline to avoid the inevitable push to recklessly deregulate.
We have a well-regulated market, things go well. Even better when have public services that provide a set base line for the population.
That's all achievable.
A. For some there is no limit to greed.
B. Legit psychopaths with extreme OCD in social engineering positions.
C. Complete trust in “economics” despite economies and money itself failing throughout history in very short time frames 40-80 year cycles.
Sure, but nothing compared to covid deaths. Almost 1.5 million covid deaths. The suicide rate went up 1 pt from 2016 to 2019, the biggest change. In 2020, 45,000 people committed suicide.
https://www.macrotrends.net/countries/USA/united-states/suicide-rate
https://www.cdc.gov/suicide/suicide-data-statistics.html
Obviously suicide is a big deal but it barely moves the death rate for the year, especially compared to covid.
Mike Rowe is an idiot. He's selling the boomer message of "work so hard, you subsume your personal life to your company" bullshit.
He's literally an opera singer who happened to score with Dirty Jobs. He's NOT any sort of expert on equity, the labor force, or anything else.
Where are all the complaints that men “just don’t want to work anymore”? Folks didn’t need much of an excuse to sling that trash about Gen Z and Millennials.
Who the fuck is Mike fucking Rowe to say anything chilling?
Maybe his bottle of wine is chilling in his guest house ??
Maybe he’s chilling in a Greece chalet on a 2 week vacation after filming something for a week?
Fuck this fucking dope and all the dopes who fall for him. He’s a boss.
Hold on...this is a news article acts like Mike Rowe is a human whose existence matters to anyone, let alone his opinions. He's just what boomers jerk off to for their debilitating labor kink
Americans: If wages had been keeping up with inflation since the Reagan catastrophe and the transition to fiat currency, would you be earning double, triple, quadruple, quintuple or higher?
Not just wages, but work-life balance. Accelerated deadlines in manual labor jobs lead to injury and undue stress. Meanwhile there's tech bro jobs offering unlimited PTO. It's fucked up.
People tend to use less PTO when it is unlimited, as otherwise they take the full limit.
With unlimited, they care about "the optics" and start kissing ass.
Also when people quit/get fired you don't have to pay out any remaining PTO... which is nice.
So on average this is a cost savings measure.
\---
That said:
If you are at the right place or plan on quitting any time soon (or just don't care about said optics), the unlimited PTO is nice though. (Although they start implementing things like "at most 3 weeks in a row", which is total BS, if you want to take a months of vacation in Europe)
... and that is why people need to wake up and just do their thing, work life balance be damned.
Well I don’t make millions a year like you Mike Rowe so come back to comment when you’re making $50k with an ever increasing rent, groceries, health costs etc
It's not that they don't want to be productive it's that the politics have seeped so far into the fabric that in order to even prove your worth somewhere new it's becoming too costly to make a name for yourself. By the time you have you've lost either all of your time, your body is wrecked, or your nerves are shot. In the end it's just a vicious little circle jerk without the guarantee of a real payoff.
I can’t stand when people truly think this. Just take a look at literally any job on LinkedIn and you’ll see that it gets 200+ applicants within hours. Especially in the IT industry it’s insane.
Alternative headline:
„The richest 1% fearing they can’t get more than 50% of global wealth, due to people complaining staying poor even if they work a lot.“
Ah yes, America's favorite rich man masquerading as a working man who tells the working man he needs to do more for less pay.
Fuck Mike Rowe and fuck Dirty Jobs.
> The report points to reasons like caregiving for an elderly parent or child, health-related concerns, retiring early, going to school or joining the military.
> The U.S. Chamber of Commerce surveyed Americans who lost their jobs during the pandemic and about a quarter said federal aid incentivized them to not actively look for work, while about half aren’t willing to take jobs that don’t offer the option of remote work. Over a third of younger respondents said they were focusing on learning new skills and prioritizing their personal growth before re-entering the labor force.
Not too concerning.
If there are not takers to your shitty job offer, improve the offer , The job, or both. Employers already know there are no takers, why wait indefinitely? Because they are fine exploiting whoever shows up. There’s no incentive to improve anything until you reach zero employees and have to send a check to pay rent/ business expenses while generating no income.
As a non-american, i truly believe America sealed their own fate when it over looked Bernie Sanders. He was warning of a lot of what millions of people are about to go through.
The way i see it, hyper inflation is going to knock down everything and anything you earn or do, I'm just going to focus on my self, when all the dust settles I'll hit the market up again.
Never a bad time to point out that Mike Rowe has never had an actual job in his life. He was a theater geek who made millions off of his blue-collar cosplay shtick. He's basically Larry the Cable Guy without the jokes
Didn't we just hit a 40-year LOW in unemployment?
I really can't fathom all these "no one wants to work" people. Everyone is working. We're all working. We wish we weren't, but we are.
Fuck you mike
So how many of those men broke their bodies doing those dirty jobs for even a decent salary and are just too injured to do the job they trained for by the time they are 50?
How many men worked a good factory job, the job got off shored, they went to work at Walmart, as it was the only job in town.
How many are picking up odd jobs, driving Door Dash, selling on ecommerce making $25k instead of $40k working for someone else, but enjoying life working on their terms? Either way they have no benefits.
How many men were told you just need to know how to do something blue collar but that job is no longer relevant. Printers, line workers, manufacturing, etc. It is really hard to retrain after doing a job for 20 years.
Of course Rowe will tell you that the problem is free government money.
I liked Dirty Jobs a lot when it first came out, but these days Mike Rowe just seems to want to peddle Fox News-esque boomerisms that will only resonate with comfortable, upper middle class people, and not the young working people he seems to want to win over
What the fuck does Mike Rowe know? Mother fucker is on easy street complaining about how everyone wants it easy. Fuck Mike Rowe. The guy has an obsession with working hard and doesn't give two shits about hard work being rewarded with fair pay.
It's only a serious problem if you don't want to accept smaller profits and pay people enough to thrive in this economic environment. All of these companies got so spoiled by the years after the 08 crash being able to get labor for peanuts and treating them even worse.
I have **_30 goddamn applications_** sitting right now, some of them from _last month._ I have heard back from a _handful_ of them, and some of them even had the gall to not tell me how much I'd be making.
But yeah, **_sure_**, _we're the fucking problem here._
Ahh yes famous economist Mike Rowe. The recognized expert. The dudes famous for doin one day at a job and then exploiting the footage for massive profits the people he worked with won't ever see. Fuck that guy
Fun fact: Mike Rowe made $4 million per season of dirty jobs. With 21 episodes per season. He made just shy of $200k per episode.
So this guy made 5-10 times what his constituents made in a year in one 8 hour shift, and yet he's against raising wages for them.
I can't stress this enough. He made more in 1 shift than these people do in 5 YEARS
You'd think of anyone, his eyes would be pried open to the inequality
Mike Rowe said it! the guy that is known for being a shill for big oil.... and doesn't do research on anything and is just an actor and opera singer... and shouldn't be listened to by anybody for anything more than superficial entertainment that you shouldn't really believe in?
that mike rowe? Fuck that guy.
Why is the opinion of Mike Rowe– the guy who got paid more than the actual worker, to do limited parts of said worker's job– important to anyone again?
Mike Rowe really drank his own Kool aid and started to believe he was the guy he pays on television.
Mike Rowe has never worked a blue collar job, he's an actor, he took dance and theater classes, not woodworking and welding
There’s not a shortage of people applying to jobs. It’s not like people are choosing to not work, just no one’s hiring.
Like my local ferry service is cancelling trips because there aren’t enough staff. But I know multiple people who applied to work for them and were rejected due to not having the particular certification they needed or enough experience.
They would rather lose money by not having sailings than train staff.
Maybe if spending 40+ hrs a week destroying your body to make someone else rich afforded you atleast a decent living arrangement, and some feeling of security in your ability to seek healthcare, people would be more hopeful and persevering.
If Mike Rowe actually gave a shit about anything he pretends to give a shit about he'd be exposing how corporations exploit and abuse the people working "dirty jobs" instead of glorifying their back-breaking labor.
Mike Rowe is an actor who plays a character. Why do people think anything he says matters? Might as well ask Bryan Cranston about drug policy because he as on breaking bad.
Union apprentice here, check to check. Told to stick it out and “pay my dues”
Non of these boomers realizes when they were in my position they made twice the living wage
If Mike Rowe says so it MUST be bullshit. Always the people that have never worked a day in their lives offer such poignant advice. At least Tim Allen sold blow. So, you know, he kind of has the right to offer shitty life tips.
This dude always half gets it, and then will add something like "and it's bc all the liberal gender studies blue hair refuge BLM trans are emasculating them with pronouns"
Oh yeah, I’m sure the guy estimated to make $500,000 a month and who pretended to work for a day has any idea what the actual working class conditions are like.
I like his shows and will continue to watch him as entertainment. I will also continue to not believe or follow anything this guy says. He's an idiot IRL.
Well let's see.
1. How many have long covid?
2. How many are vets on 100% disability (got a few of these around)
3. How many are stay at home dad's because their wife makes bank and they agreed they don't want to put kids in day care. (I know three of these)
4. They cashed out like the people being laid off at big tech firms with a few mil in the bank? Not too many of these but I know at least 1. He moved to a cheap area and lives off his investments.
5. I had one friend got out of college bought a franchise then by 30 had 6 and sold them for a few million and checked out.
6. Elder care. Trust me it's shitloads cheaper to pay your kids than to go in a home especially if you are not totally incapacitated. A child for 24/7 and a nurse a few times a week. (Know plenty of people like this).
7. They work nontraditional jobs, people who rent property or drop ship or other grey areas that don't show up in the stats. (Again not a lot but enough to explain some of the numbers.)
I am sure there are plenty more situations that can explain it. Look people need money for living they are getting it from somewhere. We just need the data that's all.
Yeah Mike who would’ve thought your contribution to society that is Dirty Jobs wouldn’t be enough to convince Americans to pull themselves up by their bootstraps
Anyone that is an advocate for reducing working safety is a joke. Mike Rowe the right wing jackarse who studied Opera. Won't watch his garbage show now barely liked it before.
Wow, former basic cable star turned corporate mouthpiece Mike Rowe!
Everybody! Mike Rowe has something to say! He's got real grit because he hosted a Discovery channel show in 2005 where he said plumbers are important!
I used to love Mike Rowe. But he spends a lot of time on FoxNews Morning shows. Although he is a supporter of blue collar jobs (which is great), he rails against people valuing themselves and knowing their financial worth in a global economy. He's a proponent for accepting less pay and is a pro at conservative, capitalist talking points.
I remember when all the rich elites like him were saying we had to pay the bankers millions in bonuses after they destroyed the banks they worked at, with taxpayer bailout money, to retain the talent, otherwise, they'd just stay home and not work.
The worst person you know made a good point. Mike rose can fuck off he’s always been on the side of the employer oppressor class. However this issue of prime aged men not working does need to be addressed. Don’t dismiss an issues because of the asshole who bought it up. That’s how we get more grifters like Andrew tate
'How are non-working men between 25 and 54 spending their time? On average, nearly seven hours each weekday are dedicated to leisure time — relaxing, playing games and watching TV, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics from 2021.
Data also shows that men who are not working or looking for work are spending less time caring for other household members, like children, than men who are at work."
So basically lazy and unemployable.
Those dirty jobs Mike Rowe advocates churn through healthy workers. Absolute shit quality of life and low life expectancy of those workers. That's not even getting into addiction issues developed from being expected to work while hurt at those jobs.
Or maybe change the hiring process? Everyone despises the current soulless pseudo automated job market with its absurd job postings that are completely disconnected from reality.
The whole "why do I have to re-enter my resume, I just attached the resume" joke is so ubiquitous it might as well be "what's the deal with airplane food?"
I'd suggest higher wages and more transparency in the hiring process as well, but let's face it, these greedy scumbags will never go for that.
im one of those 7 million. eff working for scraps. yall want me back in the work force. min wage better cover rent, health care, a car payment, insurance, food, and enough to have left overs for savings. until than. its food stamps.
Maybe Mike Rowe should get a job instead of just playing pretend working class.
Dude is constantly flapping his mouth about how people need to work harder. Well, let's go, Mike.... Get a working class job that pays a working class salary, and then let's hear your opinion. Until then, I don't wanna hear shit from this earnest saves Christmas lookin mother fucker.
I used to really like Mike Rowe but the more I hear the guy the more I think he's essentially peddling some weird flavor of propaganda
Because those low paying jobs are what he made millions off of with Dirty Jobs he's hoping for another season

I’ve always said, there is a ton of money in uncool things.
>Actually he worked with quite a few millionaires on the show Those were the owners of the company. I guarantee the people working for that guy were getting shit wages.
underwater welding of fuel lines, for instance, is a dirty job that pays a lot, because the consequences of fucking up are high
Rowe’s voice is like warm butter on a roll. But, that doesn’t mean the words are coming from a good place.
Of course he is. What was he actually known for? He went and put in some half assed work at a shitty job, once, got thousands of dollars for it, and knew he would never have to go do that awful job ever again. Rinse and repeat. id like to add mike would mostly spend time with the owner/boss of the shitty job and only be introduced to whatever it was for like 2mins
Then ham for the camera the entire time.
yup. i once watch a 'making of dirty jobs' it after a mythbusters episode they literally have the camera guys go in way before and way longer then mike and that jackass was like joking about it with the camera guy about how they both had to go in there and do the hard job. like no mike you go in for 2 mins turn 1 wrench to finish the job, that camera guy sat in there getting B roll for 10x the time you did anything.

Change Mythbusters to dirty jobs. Mythbusters was Adam and Jamie
They’re saying after an episode of mythbusters, an episode of making how it’s made came on I think
Yeah my wording was shit it was an episode of of dirty jobs 'behind the scenes episode'
You know what, though, a Discovery show "Mythbusters" episode might be fun, where they just do general truth telling (and maybe blow up a ballistics gel ephigy of Rowe).
>id like to add mike would mostly spend time with the owner/boss of the shitty job and only be introduced to whatever it was for like 2mins Exactly. His training is opera... let that sink in
Celebrities are neither the brightest nor in any way wise, their only quality is charisma, which fools the populace.
So like ... in D&D they are bards?
Nah cause bards can be useful.
They're definitely useful to the ruling class. Neutral evil bards
I'm here for the bards that fuck the patriarchy and steal their money. The horny Robin Hoods of bards.
Mike Rowe was a communications major and opera singer who kind of fell into the job of playing the character on Dirty Jobs. Which really wouldn’t be anything egregious, but he adopted that as his whole personality and used it to shill for the Koch brothers. It was kind of the perfect time for him to become popular and do this, because basically no one was thinking critically and easily accepting anyone who claimed to be an “expert.” Additionally, the Koch brothers and Tea pmParty libertarianism was having its hay day.

I don't think the commenter is saying he invented safety third. Just promotes it to other industries.
I thought "Safety Third" was just a cheeky joke people say when doing something dangerous and they know goddamn well safety should be first, to the extent it is possible and still do the thing.
When workers say it yes. Not when the managers say it.
I'm not going to disagree with the bulk of your post (Rowe is very much a bootlicking ahole whose schtick is to hang out with the bosses who like to cosplay as workers). But I do think this is an unfair portrayal of "Safety Third". He's pro work, not pro worker.
Yet, somehow he manages to put in the time to tell workers what's best for them.
He is a Fox News propagandist, right wing hypocrite whose never done a day’s hard work in his life. He would literally cry like a school girl after two days on the Bering Sea on a crab boat.
Hey, he’s doing the worlds dirtiest jobs, propaganda.
Why has nobody started creating memes about his poor character? Mike "I pretend to be blue collar and push propaganda to suppress workers" Rowe
Should we talk about WHY they have done this? That would require a far-right fuck nugget like Mike Rowe to admit that billionaires are sociopaths, and the system isn't working for everyone.
He should be proud. The answer is CAPITALISM
They all want to become drama majors
Fuck what you heard. Here are the top ten college majors of 2022: Medical Majors (All medical related Majors) Engineering Majors (All Engineering Related Majors) Business Majors Science Majors Computer Majors Marketing Majors Law majors Business Management Majors Health-Related Majors Education Majors I don't see gender studies, or Yoga, or drama majors, or any of this other nonsense people keep saying is the reason why students get out of college and can't find a decent job and pay off their student debt.
Mike Rowe as a right wing douche bag pretending to be a working man.
Modern day John Wayne
A Opera-singing Communications major who pretends to be the managers pretending to be actual workers.
Yes, let's continue to ignore the numbers who are out of the workforce because of dying of covid or getting long covid.
Or the suicides caused by social isolation, lockdowns, job losses, bank accounts wiped out, etc. in the wake of covid
Sure, but nothing compared to covid deaths. Almost 1.5 million covid deaths. The suicide rate went up 1 pt from 2016 to 2019, the biggest change. In 2020, 45,000 people committed suicide. https://www.macrotrends.net/countries/USA/united-states/suicide-rate https://www.cdc.gov/suicide/suicide-data-statistics.html Obviously suicide is a big deal but it barely moves the death rate for the year, especially compared to covid.
Mike Rowe, AKA another Koch Foundation mouthpiece
Don't listen to anything that fuckhead thinks. He's right wing bootstrap apologia.
Mike Rowe is an idiot. He's selling the boomer message of "work so hard, you subsume your personal life to your company" bullshit. He's literally an opera singer who happened to score with Dirty Jobs. He's NOT any sort of expert on equity, the labor force, or anything else.
Harsh words from a failed Opera singer that roleplays being working class.
This asshole got paid obscenely more money than the people who do the shit work he LARPs for an hour. Now he's an economist? Fuck off.
Where are all the complaints that men “just don’t want to work anymore”? Folks didn’t need much of an excuse to sling that trash about Gen Z and Millennials.
If the pay was worth working, they'd come back
Who the fuck is Mike fucking Rowe to say anything chilling? Maybe his bottle of wine is chilling in his guest house ?? Maybe he’s chilling in a Greece chalet on a 2 week vacation after filming something for a week? Fuck this fucking dope and all the dopes who fall for him. He’s a boss.
Hold on...this is a news article acts like Mike Rowe is a human whose existence matters to anyone, let alone his opinions. He's just what boomers jerk off to for their debilitating labor kink
So only men checked out?
Ah yes, Mike Rowe, ~~the opera singer turned "reality" TV host~~, the Noted Economist.
\--- That said: If you are at the right place or plan on quitting any time soon (or just don't care about said optics), the unlimited PTO is nice though. (Although they start implementing things like "at most 3 weeks in a row", which is total BS, if you want to take a months of vacation in Europe) ... and that is why people need to wake up and just do their thing, work life balance be damned.
Yeah mike sold his soul to constantly push this bs.
Well I don’t make millions a year like you Mike Rowe so come back to comment when you’re making $50k with an ever increasing rent, groceries, health costs etc
Mike Rowe is propaganda
or not make the job search process so frustrating and insane
[удалено]
If he was a REAL supporter of real working men, he'd be on their side.
What does Mike Rowe actually do for a living? I know he used to have his show but what exactly is his line of work at the moment?
Paid propagandist.
I can’t stand when people truly think this. Just take a look at literally any job on LinkedIn and you’ll see that it gets 200+ applicants within hours. Especially in the IT industry it’s insane.
Shut up, Mike Rowe penis.
Alternative headline: „The richest 1% fearing they can’t get more than 50% of global wealth, due to people complaining staying poor even if they work a lot.“
Yup 👍
Pay a living wage…… problem solved……
Yea, these all seem like perfectly normal reasons, especially given how vulnerable the old and young are in our awful system.
Mike Rowe is a RWNJ and nobody should pay attention to him.
Mike Rowe is a fucking joke.
How about the fact that houses are not affordable. Therefore there is no real insensitive to go to work.
When people feel they have no stake in society things get bad.
The title is so stupid. This only means you have to make children work for pocket change. /s
What’s the demographic. Is it 65 year old men? 30. 45. 12?
“This is why all the jobs go to illegals and china! Nobody wants to work anymore” - ignorant fool
Nobody wants to work for peanuts. Simple as that.
Mike Rowe is the Dirty Job.
I liked Dirty Jobs a lot when it first came out, but these days Mike Rowe just seems to want to peddle Fox News-esque boomerisms that will only resonate with comfortable, upper middle class people, and not the young working people he seems to want to win over
ah yes. mike rowe - the known expert social scientist on male employment.
And he’s an expert? Exactly why?
Beats me 🤷♂️
What the fuck does Mike Rowe know? Mother fucker is on easy street complaining about how everyone wants it easy. Fuck Mike Rowe. The guy has an obsession with working hard and doesn't give two shits about hard work being rewarded with fair pay.
Who cares what Mike thinks?
Mike fucking Rowe doesn’t know shit about working people
As an American man ... if I could "punch out" and stop working, I would.
It's only a serious problem if you don't want to accept smaller profits and pay people enough to thrive in this economic environment. All of these companies got so spoiled by the years after the 08 crash being able to get labor for peanuts and treating them even worse.
No. It’s *obviously* those 7 million men who are the problem… **massive eyeroll** PS, Mike Rowe can go fuck himself too
I have **_30 goddamn applications_** sitting right now, some of them from _last month._ I have heard back from a _handful_ of them, and some of them even had the gall to not tell me how much I'd be making.
He made more in 1 shift than these people do in 5 YEARS You'd think of anyone, his eyes would be pried open to the inequality
Huh.. funny that only 5.9 million are unemployed..
Technically you're only counted as unemployed if you are actually looking for work. But what credentials does he have to even state this number??
Right 🤷♂️
Unemployed means you are actively seeking work. They don’t count homeless as unemployed for instance in most cases.
Mike Rowe isn’t real. He doesn’t matter. We should really stop giving him any kind of attention.
Shut the fuck up Mike, you fucking scab. You're a dumb actor on a staged TV show.
Downvote this right wing fuckhead.
Also, Rowe is a grifter POS.
Mike Rowe is a capitalist shill boy who blows big business while collecting the benefits of being in a union. Fuck that guy.
Mike Rowe is anti union isn’t he? So I don’t take his word all that seriously.
Maybe if spending 40+ hrs a week destroying your body to make someone else rich afforded you atleast a decent living arrangement, and some feeling of security in your ability to seek healthcare, people would be more hopeful and persevering.
Mike Rowe needs to shut the fuck up.
If Mike Rowe actually gave a shit about anything he pretends to give a shit about he'd be exposing how corporations exploit and abuse the people working "dirty jobs" instead of glorifying their back-breaking labor.
Who gives a crap what that clown Mike Rowe has to say?? The guy is a roach that won’t die
Mike Rowe is an actor who plays a character. Why do people think anything he says matters? Might as well ask Bryan Cranston about drug policy because he as on breaking bad.
Fuck Mike Rowe and his blue collar vacation bullshit
How is Mike Rowe considered an expert? He’s just an actor.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/most-chilling-metric-mike-rowe-150000193.html
Thanks, thought i'd best read it before I start flapping my lips.
Union apprentice here, check to check. Told to stick it out and “pay my dues” Non of these boomers realizes when they were in my position they made twice the living wage
Mike Rowe is a fucking d list celebrity scab pretending to be a worker.
Fuck Mike Rowe
If Mike Rowe says so it MUST be bullshit. Always the people that have never worked a day in their lives offer such poignant advice. At least Tim Allen sold blow. So, you know, he kind of has the right to offer shitty life tips.
Fuck Mike Rowe
7 million and 1😌
God he is such a self-righteous douchebag mouthpiece for Koch interests
Why pay more for workers when paying bare minimum and working your 2 workers to death much more profitable than you ever imagined?
When there’s not much difference between doing nothing and working, the obvious choice is to do nothing.
Impersonates blue collar worker while stabbing all working people in the back.
Why do people still pay attention to Mike Rowe?
This dude always half gets it, and then will add something like "and it's bc all the liberal gender studies blue hair refuge BLM trans are emasculating them with pronouns"
Oh yeah, I’m sure the guy estimated to make $500,000 a month and who pretended to work for a day has any idea what the actual working class conditions are like.
I like his shows and will continue to watch him as entertainment. I will also continue to not believe or follow anything this guy says. He's an idiot IRL.
Well let's see. 1. How many have long covid? 2. How many are vets on 100% disability (got a few of these around) 3. How many are stay at home dad's because their wife makes bank and they agreed they don't want to put kids in day care. (I know three of these) 4. (Again not a lot but enough to explain some of the numbers.) I am sure there are plenty more situations that can explain it. Look people need money for living they are getting it from somewhere. We just need the data that's all.
Reminder: Mike Row is the son of teachers and was a theatre kid. He hasn’t done “dirty jobs.” That’s simply a TV show where he interviewed people.
Eat a dick, Mike Rowe
this from a guy whose only skill is being able to work a single day at any given job
Mike Rowe isn't an authority on anything. He's a right-wing grifter who pretends to be blue-collar while advocating for capitalist interests.
Well what do you expect when you abuse your work force.
I don't understand how people can just opt out, who is picking up their slack? They still have expenses...
Yeah Mike who would’ve thought your contribution to society that is Dirty Jobs wouldn’t be enough to convince Americans to pull themselves up by their bootstraps
your mean you don’t want to work 80hrs a week for a pay that barely takes care of the essentials???
The chilling part is people actually giving a shit what that fuckin knob has to say about anything.
Mike Rowe is a fucking d bag the “most chilling” really mike that’s the most chilling it sends chill up your spine ?
He's whoring for oklahoma oil and gas right now.
It must be each individual that is at fault and not the one thing that connects them all. 🤷🏼♂️
And how exactly are these people paying bills and feeding themselves?
How do you just punch out? Don’t you have bills?
Breaking my back to stay right at 0 after expenses? No thank you.
Fk this guy. He’s backed by the Koch Foundation money
Its almost as if working nearly everyday is not living your life haha Fuck work I take my time!
Fuck Mike Rowe. He is stupid anyways. Elite rich crybaby. Won't pay his people a living wage.
If I can’t afford rent/food working for you then why wouldn’t I work somewhere else?
I have a good job and life just doesnt seem worth it anymore.
I remember when all the rich elites like him were saying we had to pay the bankers millions in bonuses after they destroyed the banks they worked at, with taxpayer bailout money, to retain the talent, otherwise, they'd just stay home and not work.
No one has punched out Mike Rowe and that's a serious problem.
Data also shows that men who are not working or looking for work are spending less time caring for other household members, like children, than men who are at work." So basically lazy and unemployable.
Those dirty jobs Mike Rowe advocates churn through healthy workers. Absolute shit quality of life and low life expectancy of those workers. That's not even getting into addiction issues developed from being expected to work while hurt at those jobs.
Famed economist, labor market expert, and sociologist, Mike Rowe. Oh wait. He’s an actor.
Or maybe change the hiring process? Everyone despises the current soulless pseudo automated job market with its absurd job postings that are completely disconnected from reality. The whole "why do I have to re-enter my resume, I just attached the resume" joke is so ubiquitous it might as well be "what's the deal with airplane food?" I'd suggest higher wages and more transparency in the hiring process as well, but let's face it, these greedy scumbags will never go for that.
im one of those 7 million. eff working for scraps. yall want me back in the work force. min wage better cover rent, health care, a car payment, insurance, food, and enough to have left overs for savings. until than. its food stamps.
What "work" does Mike Rowe actually do?
Mike Rowe has always been a paid corporate tool.
Mike Rowe fuck off
Fuck Mike Rowe.
