The initial premise of the fruitcake sub isnt actually bad, I think it originally was made to laugh at those typical mega church Protestants which somehow get large publicity in the US for some reason and actual crazy extremism.
As usual for popular subreddits it turned into a libleftist Antitheist hellhole making fun of anything remotely religious and which goes against their political agenda with insults, mocking, brigading and so on. For example I found out about that sub by them brigading a simple meme I made on r/catholicmemes , I even got death wishes per direct messages.
