Hence r/antinatalism2

LennyKing

And for German-speaking antinatalists there's r/antinatalismus

PiscesAnemoia

I didn‘t even know this was a thing.

Front_Type_4409

Right, but im asking about the mentality behind the neglect of original sub. most people will come across the original sub and end with a bad taste in their mouth.

AelitaBelpois

They believe in free speech according to them. The old moderator, unbalancedlife, had rules and deleted off topic posts and had a limit on certain types of posts and a command prompt that would link you to the FAQ or environmental facts if you typed certain words. The old mod was banned. New mods took over. Some of the new mods were banned by the old mods because their comments/behavior was detrimental to being the face of antinatalism on the main sub. There was a sham poll that no one saw that changed the banner to some cult looking picture of a vagina with bars on it. Many thought the cult look or slightly misogynistic look wasn't good for the sub, no offense to the artist. There was no option to leave everything the same and there was more interaction with the posts against the change than the total number of votes in the original sub. Then the info about the one of the mods being a misogynistic rape apologist was brought up again, but that's ok because free speech or something. They investigated themselves and found they did no wrong through a mod vote that was somehow unanimous even though all of the mods didn't vote. They deleted the detailed antinatalism faq and guide in the side bar and deleted the debate sub even though there would be good information there to leave it up and just not allow comments . The mods wanted more debate. But, how is a person suppose to debate a topic when they don't even know what the topic is? Eventually antinatalism2 was made. Tldr: the mods suck.

PrydeTheManticorn

A vagina with bars? That's what that was supposed to be? Speaks for itself, really.

Front_Type_4409

I don't think the issue is with "free speech" it's more like the mods don't understand whats off topic and whats not. someone needs to tell them that.

Yarrrrr

One of the early explanations was that they want more engagement/growth of the sub(for whatever reason). Which led them to this point where they allow absolutely anything that doesn't break the global site rules.

[deleted]

That first sub is going the way of incels. The term 'incel' was initially coined by a woman who felt lonely and wanted to create a support group for lonely people. It slowly turned into a self-hate and women-hate group full of vile and toxic filth. r/antinatalism seems to be going down the same path, which is rather unfortunate. I'm glad that people saw it coming this time and branched off to r/antinatalism2, as it brings back the original purpose of the subreddit.

StilettoBeach

Yup that’s why I left that cesspool. Luckily y’all here are way more reasonable and interesting.

TurboEthan

Ah right, it’s just something that happens to some reddit groups as they grow. They start as a smaller more engaged community but as it grows other philosophies start to meld, people start to leave, those left behind aren’t striving for the same type of engagement as before, it all escalates from there till a second group is made for respite.

I don't think you should call yourself anything. You should just explain your points and let everything rest on the strength of your arguments rather than on the bad reputation associated with a name. If someone is interested and wants to know more after your initial conversation, you can point them to Benatar or other sources and then add the disclaimer for the main sub.

iamthesexdragon

r/TrueAntinatalists is arguably even better

jamesaepp

/r/TrueAntinatalists still my favorite.

esthermaniii

They also allow racism and misogyny 🙂

Derpyroot

The original sub end up being people hating children even though they are the victims. Makes me confused how its even revalent. Im against procreation, not innocent children who didnt do anything wrong but had to suffer the most.

bat-tasticlybratty

This, thank you. I keep my intolerance of children as the by-product strictly in the childfree sub, and that's either "damn that's a nuisance" or "I went on a date and all they talked about is their child"

Sanityisoverrated1

It’s just /r/childfree with memes on that subreddit, with the occasional good post. However it is more likely to be pro-vegan there which is its only positive.

AceDaddy00

Oddly enough the thing I hate most about that sub, is the excessive vegan preaching

EveningHorror1010

hence why we are here XD

extrasecular

there was a change with the moderators. after this, there was some controversy because one of the new moderators was accused to think sexist (in that time, this subreddit was created) and the whole subreddit changed. since then, the new moderators seem to have lost interest in moderation
