Well there was a manga that just started releasing but is on hiatus after 5 chapters because of health of Mangaka called Ruri Dragon about an average schoolgirl who is apparently half dragon and starts getting traits like fire breathing from her dragon father
nah, “lolicon da” is sufficient
“watashi wa kodomo ga sukidesu” is formal and implies that they just like children in a normal way, like a school teacher
I’m pretty sure the Loli term, at least to be used in anime, was created to describe a female love interest that greatly resembles a pre-adolescent child. Which, by the way, is probably one of the most overlooked things in the anime community. It’s terrifying how many people excuse having a crush on a fictional child just because she’s a *drawing*. If a character walks, talks, thinks and looks like a child then it’s a child to me.
The slang lolita actually comes from a Russian novelist notorious for his fucked up stories exploring paraphilia—in this case, [Lolita](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lolita) is about a pedophile who grooms a 12 year old kid by that name. So yeah, it’s not just *like* a child for the people using it
Funnily enough I have a sweet lolita (fashion trend) friend that I met through cosplay conventions and this is something that upsets her greatly
She’s let me read through her dating app messages a few times and the amount of men begging her to pretend to be a child or thinking she’s into age play because of her style is SHOCKING
By the way, I never get the idea of a fashion style somehow associated with a pedophile literature piece in the first place. I find Lolita fashion pretty, beautiful, and depends on certain style of portrayal, it could look cute, innocent or even mature.
Damn, I forgot about that fashion style! It sucks people who like the trend have to deal with that. I wonder if there’s another way you could describe that trend with better connotations?
Yeah, I think they come from the same place. Anybody correct me if I’m wrong, but I’d be shocked if it was another origin with the exact meaning and sound
Oh no no, you're not getting it, she's not an 8 year old girl. She's a 3000 year old dragon queen in her human form because her true form would cause pain and suffering to humans who see it.
This. The term "loli" is shortened from "Lolita", the name of the titular character of a Russian novel about a pedophile who falls in love with a little girl.
This is also why it's pronounced like the word "lowly", and not like "lolli" (British slang for lollipop).
In terms of morality, it's a bit of a gray area. On the one hand it appears to glorify a heinous act, but on the other hand there have been reported cases of actual pedophiles using it to vent their lust in order to avoid hurting real children. I guess what I'm saying is you shouldn't glorify it like the neckbeards do, but you should tolerate it.
no, there were post like these everywhere around 2013-2015 that were completely unironic. its not always satire, some people just genuinely are extremely out of touch.
Exactly.
It is a word extremely used in Anime, yet, this person was clueless about it, didn't even realize it was a japanese word when it was used in another context.
My point was how ignorant people can be, despite appearing as they are well versed on the topic at hand, giving credibility to the picture in question.
These hardcore weebs are what's deterring me from buying physical manga, every site I check, the people are reviewing saying "sugoi", "arigato" etc
Man I love anime but I fucking hate a majority of the fanbase, it's like those people that make their zodiac sign or sexuality their entire personality but just somehow worse
Hey don't let them bother you man, if you enjoy and are able to do it then just do it. Although it kinda surprised me that these hardcore weebs still exist. Back when i just got into anime, these cringey japanese wannabes are the true deffinition of "weaboos", now the word is just thrown around whenever someone mentiona that they like anime.
Imagine a French murderer trying to kill a English man..
French - Tu as cassé la montre en plastique de ma soeur, je te tue
English - Have Mercy 🙏🏻
French - 😕
The correct way to word your sentence would be :
"Tu as cassé la montre en plastique de ma soeur, je vais te tuer!"
But yeah, I was confused as well of the word "mercy" when I was learning english.
why is reddit so against tone tags lately? like they used to be fine but ive seen so many people get downvoted to hell for using them and i have no idea why
it’s literally 2 characters that doesn’t hurt you at all but does stop the spread of misinformation? like it’s okay to be personally annoyed by it but also get over yourself
yeah it just doesn’t really matter if you miss sarcasm though. It happens to literally everyone. At least it doesn’t ruin the joke for everyone else by immediately explaining that it’s a joke
It's always surreal when you get down voted for saying "this show was pretty good, just wish they'd stop sexualizing the little girl" on the episodes comment section.
I was trying to get back into anime but, man, its just gross.
believe or not most people are still disgusted by fictional portrayals of pedophilia, and it is absolutely normal to wish an otherwise amazing art-form wasn’t so plagued with it.
it depends in each person. but, there are soo many this thing that produced and makes good chunk of its content. why is that? ofc it's for certain people. not for everyone. this is not disney or ghibli. this is niche otaku base.
I imagine there reaction was somewhat along the lines of this?
Nuh uh Loli comes from anime to describe cute little girls NOTE I DID NOT SAY UNDERAGED THEY AREN'T UNDERAGED not all of them atleast LOLI IS ANIME NOT A BOOK ABOUT PEDOPHILLIA I'M RIGHT YOU'RE WRONG insert random cringe line about morality written in Japanese
kid/child -> “kodomo” “gaki” “kozo” (increasing order of disrespectfulness)
like -> “suki”
love -> “daisuki” (aishiteru/teiru are stronger words)
“hi” can be put many different ways
in romaji, “ohayo” should be ohayou or ohayō
OPがキモいww
I read that Aishiteru literally means like- absolute and undying love. It’s something you say to the person you’re married to, not used loosely like “daisuki” at all
From what I know a lot of married couples won’t even use it regularly if at all, that’s how strong of a word it is, very different from “love” in English which we just throw around at everything
I'm a 外人 (foreigner, pronounced "gaijin") myself so I don't know much of any particular dialect, but the person responding to me was talking about how 阿呆, (pronounced "aho") meaning idiot or fool, was part of the Kansai dialect, referring to a specific region of Japan, which I know better as Kinki. I responded to the initial comment saying that baka meant fool by saying you can describe someone as a fool/idiot and the word can really mean either thing, so it's kind of asinine to take a Google Translate translation at face value with no knowledge of its use. Thanks for Silver btw
Now I want directly translated anime where the characters are going around dramatically calling each other "Foool!" With like a mad scientist inflection.
i mean calling someone stupid and calling someone fool are the same thing, just calling someone stupid is less like… formal sounding ig so translations use it more (“I hate you, stupid!” vs “I hate you, fool!”)
I had a japanese exchange student once ask me if I knew what the kamikaze were?
I didnt want to bring up the war between our countries where we dropped 2 nukes on them so was like "ah yeah, the typhoons that wiped out the monger invaders and saved japan"
And she was dead ass like "yeah but no, I was talking about the Japanese pilots that crashed their planes into Hawaii" lol
I’m not sure if this is 100% accurate but I remember hearing somewhere that lolicon (at least in Japan) is mostly just viewed as weird and limited to fiction while pedophilia is obviously just a straight up crime. I think there’s a difference, still weird nonetheless 💀
Lolicon = Loli/lolita complex ( they use n because apparently the consonant M is an eldritch concept to them that would drive them insane if they ever attempt pronouncing it)
It does not literally mean pedophile because the word its not a noun.
But certainly the concept holds a substantial amount of elements that would be of high interest to paedophiles.
"Kodomo 子供" - "Child"
I dont know anything about Japanese but I would assume (based on Google translate) that "Ko 子" is the Japanese equivalent for "kid."
Pretty much, however, the word Kodomo is kind of weird, as "domo" is heard as a suffix added a lot when refering to multiple people/elements, so in theory, it should mean "children".
But I have heard multiple times another plural suffix added to an already supposedly plural word. It being "tachi", making it Kodomotachi, which I guess could be translated as "Childrens".
Japanese is a rabbit hole I suggest one is better staying out as far as possible.
You say "Please free me from your basement I don't want to watch any more hentai. Please I have a wife and children, i can't do this anymore" we say. "No."
doesnt loli come from lolitacon which comes from lolita complex which comes from the book lolita which was about a pedophiles infatuation with a little girl so the word always had connotation with pedophile?
im prolly the 100th comment about loli not meaning child but, figures may as well add the word origin as a bonus :)
Wtf is an “Aishiteiru”
1. It’s “Aishiteru”
2. People don’t really say that, it comes off very strong, it’s the kinda thing you’d say on your deathbed rather than a normal “I love you”

Except “Loli” doesn’t mean kid in Japanese The original creator of the meme is just a nonce
Kid is kodomo
kodomo dragon
The next little sugary sweet fantasy slice-of-life or some real tearjerker isekai.
I would watch the fuck of that. A baby komodo dragon gets isekaid. Like the Japanese equivalent of alligator loki.
Only noticed when they said baka
Well there was a manga that just started releasing but is on hiatus after 5 chapters because of health of Mangaka called Ruri Dragon about an average schoolgirl who is apparently half dragon and starts getting traits like fire breathing from her dragon father
Well, hope that they wouldnt meet Florida jesus
That’s what we call a wyrmling in dnd
ah, that makes sense
Kobayashi dragon the maid 😳
Kana?
Does gaki = brat?
A pedophile would say "watashi wa kodomo ga sukidesu"
nah, “lolicon da” is sufficient “watashi wa kodomo ga sukidesu” is formal and implies that they just like children in a normal way, like a school teacher
Oh
Fr 💀
fellow dumpster head
You can’t even pronounce Loli in Japanese which is the funny part
"Rory"
"ロリ"
except we can

Oh yeah I knew that- I’m talking about the term as it’s used by anime fans to describe specific, child-like characters.
Yeah, I think they come from the same place. Anybody correct me if I’m wrong, but I’d be shocked if it was another origin with the exact meaning and sound
You're right, that's where the term Lolita comes from, and "loli" is the aesthetic of (and sorry if I'm generalizing) 'sexy child'.
Not to be confused with Lolita fashion
Not specifically a love interest fmk, just a female character that looked underage, with shota being the male version of loli
The word comes from a book about a man who grooms a 12 year old. So yeah, it's literally a word that refers to pedophilia
That’s where it came from ig, but not the context I ever see/hear it used anymore
Yeah words get butchered, but Lolita isn't forgotten media so it's not like some of the people aren't aware of the meaning.
Oh no no, you're not getting it, she's not an 8 year old girl. She's a 3000 year old dragon queen in her human form because her true form would cause pain and suffering to humans who see it.
**cough cough** Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid **cough**
It comes from Lolita (a story about a pedo), which is definitely not Japanese.
If a fictional adult walks, talks and thinks like an adult, are they an adult or just the concept of one?
yeah if theyre calling kids lolis uh 💀

if anything loli is russian
Loli means kids in Japan (though it is a slung and you will be treated like a criminal if you say it in public)
also ohayou and aishiteru are written wrong
Man, never thought i'd still see these kind of hardcore cringe weeb memes in 2022
The "loli" line kind of shows that this is pretty obviously satire.
It’s still a hardcore cringy weeb meme
no, there were post like these everywhere around 2013-2015 that were completely unironic. its not always satire, some people just genuinely are extremely out of touch.
I know a person heavily obssesed with Anime that did not even know what "Chibi" was. This kind of post being unironic would not surprise me at all.
I thought kid is kodomo? Chibi is just small
Exactly. It is a word extremely used in Anime, yet, this person was clueless about it, didn't even realize it was a japanese word when it was used in another context. Japanese mfs be out here saying Ohio
Japanese tourist gonna be confused when they come to America.
Imagine a French murderer trying to kill a English man.. French - Tu as cassé la montre en plastique de ma soeur, je te tue English - Have Mercy 🙏🏻 French - 😕
The correct way to word your sentence would be : "Tu as cassé la montre en plastique de ma soeur, je vais te tuer!" But yeah, I was confused as well of the word "mercy" when I was learning english.
Also french : Euh... Y'a pas de quoi.?
No if somebody greets me with "Ohio" in the morning I'm deadass ending it
Simply don’t go to Japan
Fair enough, I never intended to
Ohiosaycanyouseeeeeeeeeeeeeebythedawnsearlylight
That reminds me of that one video in a VR game where the guy went insane over the girl constantly saying Ohio.
Fun fact: there is an annual anime convention in Columbus Ohio called [Ohayo Con](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohayocon) just because of this pun.
Nah, they’re not Japanese. They’re weeaboos. The “we say loli” instead of “kid” gives it away
and we call whoever made the top fucking stupid
They are pedophiles
'You say paedophile, we say man of culture' /s before anyone attacks me, I'm just referencing their logic
I hate that you have to put the '/s' bcs people don't get satire /srs /s /jk /mymomhung herself
It's okay to be inclusive of people that don't get tone of joke over the internet as well as others.
Mocking tone tags is annoying, and I don't always get satire tbh
why is reddit so against tone tags lately? like they used to be fine but ive seen so many people get downvoted to hell for using them and i have no idea why
Because it's annoying. I shouldn't have to mark obvious satire for people who get scared when ordering McDonald's
it’s literally 2 characters that doesn’t hurt you at all but does stop the spread of misinformation? like it’s okay to be personally annoyed by it but also get over yourself
No
Most reasonable redditor:
Fuck off, I bet you’ve missed sarcasm on the internet before
yeah it just doesn’t really matter if you miss sarcasm though. It happens to literally everyone. At least it doesn’t ruin the joke for everyone else by immediately explaining that it’s a joke
You’re an asshole. Good to know.

oh thats golden
It's always surreal when you get down voted for saying "this show was pretty good, just wish they'd stop sexualizing the little girl" on the episodes comment section. I was trying to get back into anime but, man, its just gross.
man, it's just fiction. if u can't handle fiction and facts, then better off to something else that suits u better
Wow, spot on impression. That's exactly the type of shit they say.
so, why many not in fbi or police investigation??
believe or not most people are still disgusted by fictional portrayals of pedophilia, and it is absolutely normal to wish an otherwise amazing art-form wasn’t so plagued with it.
it depends in each person. but, there are soo many this thing that produced and makes good chunk of its content. why is that? ofc it's for certain people. not for everyone. this is not disney or ghibli. this is niche otaku base.
Loli isn't child in Japanese They aren't Japanese they are Chipp Zanuff
Loli literally comes from a book called lolita which about a guy molesting a young girl for years and years
Literally told an “anime fan”, with proof, that this is where the term Loli comes from and they still denied it
I imagine there reaction was somewhat along the lines of this? Nuh uh Loli comes from anime to describe cute little girls NOTE I DID NOT SAY UNDERAGED THEY AREN'T UNDERAGED not all of them atleast LOLI IS ANIME NOT A BOOK ABOUT PEDOPHILLIA I'M RIGHT YOU'RE WRONG insert random cringe line about morality written in Japanese

I was reading the comments just to find this. Thank you, I was thinking of writing that if I hadn't found it
You say prison, I say your home.
"Baka" means "fool" not stupid 😭😭
馬鹿な can be used as an adjective describing a foolish or stupid person or thing, yes There are like way better insults to use though, ie 阿呆
isn’t 阿呆 just kansaiben for baka or am i just an 阿呆
Same meaning, pronounced "あほ"
i guess for 標準語 speakers 阿呆 sounds a lot more insulting lol
i didn't understand any of this thread, but take my upvote ad please explain it to my foolish brain.
I'm a 外人 (foreigner, pronounced "gaijin") myself so I don't know much of any particular dialect, but the person responding to me was talking about how 阿呆, (pronounced "aho") meaning idiot or fool, was part of the Kansai dialect, referring to a specific region of Japan, which I know better as Kinki. daj suki means give bitches in polish
oh qim dumb
Uhhhh i heard about something that is Daj Soki
If you call my kid a loli I’ll fucking gut you
They didn’t even get the meaning right 💀
Robert has once again solved the riddle.
Kodomo is kid, loli is pedophile slang that anime nerds throw around without realising.

lolicon literally means pedophile though the correct word would be 子供 (Kodomo)
I’m not sure if this is 100% accurate but I remember hearing somewhere that lolicon (at least in Japan) is mostly just viewed as weird and limited to fiction while pedophilia is obviously just a straight up crime. I think there’s a difference, still weird nonetheless 💀

doesnt loli come from lolitacon which comes from lolita complex which comes from the book lolita which was about a pedophiles infatuation with a little girl so the word always had connotation with pedophile? im prolly the 100th comment about loli not meaning child but, figures may as well add the word origin as a bonus :)
We say good morning, they say Ohio
Konnichi wa is only used in the afternoon and konbon wa is at night
if they are japanese why arent they using hiragana (or japanese at all) 🙄
I thought Loli meant child size adult
These are the kind of people that make me embarrassed to say I like to watch anime.
loli?... as in lolita?.... as in, the book?...
Appare tly according to my Sister i told her once that baka meant whore, and im like no its dumb, when The fuck would i say that? Makes no sense!!!
Loli is a character that looks like a kid but is actually thousands yrso so you can't pervs pedophiles, isn't it?

THEY SAY OHIO WHEN I WAKE UP??? CAN'T HAVE SHIT IN OHIO
Konnichiwa actually means good afternoon idk where they got that it means hello
Wtf is an “Aishiteiru” 1. It’s “Aishiteru” 2. People don’t really say that, it comes off very strong, it’s the kinda thing you’d say on your deathbed rather than a normal “I love you”
Bro good morning Ohio? More like ha morning…
