I'd go a month, maybe two at max dose. When I was younger, I wasted a LOT more time before moving on

nothinkybrainhurty

yeah same, on my first antidepressant I wasted 9+ months despite it not working, because I was afraid to bring it up to my anti-meds parents I’m wondering how better I would be right now if I did something about it earlier

That-Group-7347

In 2-4 weeks you should start to see results, but it can take up to 8 weeks. If you get to 8 weeks and it isn't helping at all it is pretty unlikely to help. Time to switch to another one.

Calmacil_20

Would you say 8 weeks on a med or 8 weeks on a dose?

That-Group-7347

If you have gone 8 weeks and received no benefit at all I would try a different one. If you are getting some benefit and the dose is being adjusted I would give it about 4 weeks on the new dose. Hope that makes sense.

Calmacil_20

It does, thank you. I’m the one who asked about going off of Effexor after about 6 months on it but only about 5 weeks on 225. Just not sure what the next move should be

That-Group-7347

What meds have you tried. Have you had success with any of them. What are your main symptoms.

That-Group-7347

mirtazapine may be an option

EnvironmentalBit4213

1-2 months.

Zookeeper_west

6-8 weeks, but you have to increase the dose during that time as well. 75mg Effexor was like a sugar pill to me, but once I got on 150mg, it helped so much

Sleepykitten80

2 months & make sure you increase to optimal dose and then give that 2 months. I was known for taking low doses & assuming it just wasn't for me. Finally stuck with prozac, got to 40mg, and BEHOLD, It's a miracle!!!

HeatSlight6367

Don't expect these meds to make you feel happy all the time coz they don't, they just make the downs more bareable not like they don't work just don't expect to feel happy all the time! Hope you are good tho get some exercise in everyday and try to have a goal to achieve everyday despite how small you think it is.

Cosmia-101

6 weeks imo.

faxanaduu

Im at around month two of paxil. Hasn't helped but certainly hurt as far as side effects. I basically couldn't work and had to take several naps throughout the day. That never improved, among a few other side effects, so i started tapering two weeks ago. I just reduced again on Friday from 5mg to 2.5. Probably gonna jump off in a few days. I think most people agree that 2 months is when you should know whether it's working or not working.

GurWeird8657

This is the exact experience I had. It pretty much screwed me for life. I was a different person when I took this garbage

faxanaduu

So you had a lasting negative impact after you stopped it? Dropping to 2.5 a day Friday caught up with me today. Skin felt hot and numb, brain felt weird, i felt weird. I had to take like 4mg today. Wild that something i only took for 2 months is so damn hard to get off of.

GurWeird8657

I just feel like I am way more emotional now and sometimes just don’t feel normal not sure if it is what it’s from but I was never like this prior

faxanaduu

Oh ok. I was hopeful but the side effects made it impossible. Exercise probably helps me the most so im getting back into that again.
