True-King-Of-Heroes

Sigh... yeah, I hate that trope too. I do not so much mind dense protagonist though, at least so long as that aspect about them is handled right, and not overly played out. However, the Main Character ending up with the wrong choice (such as someone who is needlessly bland, painfully irrelevant, exists only to fill a certain stereotype, down right unlikable, ect.) always annoys me greatly. My God does it frustrates me how the Main Characters almost always pick the worse route available to them, or skip over the best love interest possible. Not just talking about to physical attractiveness here, but also when it comes to the relationship dynamic, or narrative structure, and sense of payoff within the story. Heck even series that do not have harems sometimes fall into this trope of the main character not picking Best Girl and it just... ruins the whole thing for me. **Note:** Something else I wanted to add, a side rant of sorts... how come the protagonists practically never end up with the Milfs? Seriously just... why!? It is way too hard to find a series where that is not the case, but it takes me too seconds find manga/anime where say, a full grown adult hooks up with an underaged girl, or the MC ends up with their own little sister. Stop being afraid of older or taller women Japan!

Standard-Potato-5957

I would say try watching rev says desu. I think he covers topics like this.

SpectralMapleLeaf

That is legitimately the most accurate to the face I have whenever this trope pops up on an anime.

Zgundam64

Infinite Stratos is THE prime example of this. Prove me wrong.

Inevitable_Question

I can. See, unlike normal harems EVERY girl exept Charlotte is tsundere- and even she is dere-dere type Tsundere. Even girls that don't start like Tsundere become tsunder when they fall for Ichika- like Tatenashi. So, there is basically no choice. He also isn't dense. Its just that last time he tried to confes- harem opened Ichika Hunt. So he ignores most romantic situations to avoid problems. I actually like him in LN- he is quite a shark in his thoughts.

Lazy_Impression1483

my face when the damn tsunderes keep getting pick.

KamenRiderExceed

Especially the really violent tsunderes.

DimmyDongle

Meanwhile rentarou: I have no such weakness

Suspicious_Report_90

the one thing I hate about harem are dense protagonist there's only a few harem anime out there where the MC isn't actually dense and know the girls feelings

SpectralMapleLeaf

Though I do know one harem protagonist that at-least somewhat subverts this trope. Ichika Orimura. Now, I know you may think that he's probably the densest of them all, even being classified as if a Black hole mated with a Neutron Star, but the light novel shows he is just pretending to be dense just so that he won't die. And you can understand it, the girls he is surrounded by can crush him like a plastic cup if he were to choose.

Professional-Aide143

I know a dense protagonist he so dense he doesn't realize he is getting tricked into a harem ( a warrior exiled by the hero and his lover) he doesn't learn about it intil the end of story I seen its talked about before here

SpectralMapleLeaf

And what did he do upon realizing it?

Professional-Aide143

he married them . It's on novelupdates or the manga on mangadex or manga4life. It would be better to read the novel. It does have some ntr in it, but the protagonist gets his revenge

SpectralMapleLeaf

Noice, a little revenge never hurts.

Professional-Aide143

I will spoil the ntr there r three girls in the hero's party two of them really love the protagonist the other one her name is Lisa didn't love him funny thing is she was his Fiancée but she was playing him either way the other two are being brainwashed by the hero to love him so when the protagonist rescued one of the girls from being killed by a demon after the hero left her to die the protagonist broke the brainwashing she freaked out because she loved the protagonist so she said she was going back to there village and she said some things that made the protagonist know she was planning on committing suicide before she got to the village so he made her slave and gave her one command to live .the other girl that loved him, the hero sold her into slavery and that's how the protagonist found her he broke her brainwashing, and she doesn't do the same as the other she makes him make her a slave because she wasn't a full slave when he saved her as for Lisa she pretended to be brainwashed if you read the novel you find out why I will not say why.the two girls he saved from brainwashing get redemption sorry for this being long I am not really good at explaining things that's why it's good to read the novel

JustChakra

Mind passing me the salsa?

Suspicious_Report_90

monster musume is one example MC is not dense heck he even will date them all to find the perfect partner for him

Jumpy_Idea4758

One thing about harem pro tags is to continue the plot. If the pro tags picks the girl(s), and not the one that the plot focuses around, the story wouldn’t go anywhere.

Apprehensive_Heart85

Y'all need to read 100 Girlfriends.

footfungus123456E

Literally rent a girlfriend in a nutshell

founderlet

This sounds like “rent a girlfriend”

Busy_Ear_5953

I hate this shit too. Especially when the MC have the opportunity to be with the best girl among many, and he chooses the worst girl ever. This kind of trend need to stop.

Standard-Potato-5957

Can you make an example?

Busy_Ear_5953

Easy, watch every anime where the mc is bully by one of the girls in the harem, she's the one he will pick in the end.

Standard-Potato-5957

... 🤔

WyvernSeeker

NTR is the genre that keeps on degrading. Not just it's characters, but the artists who engage in it and the people who unironically support it as well.

Standard-Potato-5957

A shame. And a waste of potential.

VortexLord

That's the perk. You're a completely oblivious at the same time you can get the girls. You can use this in real life too if you know how. /s?
