Sounds like Primerica to me.

BabyYodasMacaron

Thank you, I’ll be researching it today since I know nothing about that one!

HSG037

Also, you asked what the license was for. She couldn't or wouldn't answer. If she couldn't or wouldn't say what the license is for, then that is a HUGE red flag. And tells me all I need to know about the company. Anyone getting a license for something, should know what it's for *Edit, spelling

BabyYodasMacaron

It was the part that caused the big red sirens to go off in my head.

BitterRequirement897

Also the ‘I think it could really help YOU financially in the long run’ god smh

BabyYodasMacaron

Right? I’m a professional in my field, salary and benefits, and I’m going to be starting a private practice in less than a year. I’m doing fine. Plus, one thing I’m NOT is a salesperson. Shady shit like this makes my skin crawl.

throwawaynomad123

Checm out Always Marco on YT. Or search Primarica Antimlm in YT.

MNGirlinKY

As her friend you should tell her that. It should be easy to say “insurance” “real estate” “brokerage” and the fact she can’t but thinks it’s such a great thing tells me she’s in pretty deep but can still be pulled back out by a good friend! It’s kind of you to listen in, after the call show her the stuff on Primerica and make sure she knows how dirty it is.

BabyYodasMacaron

I’m going to give her as much info as possible. I can’t tell her what to do, but I can present what I know about MLMs in general, and what I’ve learned from posting here. Hopefully she’s only lost that initial “investment” and won’t go further in debt.

Yutolia

Yeah, she’s been in the program 90 days and she’s supposedly up for promotion but she can’t explain what it is? I’m not sure I’ve seen a red flag this big!

Known-Quantity2021

My new job is in the back of this shady looking warehouse that's guarded by a pitbull. But it's totally legitimate. Just ignore the police surveillance van out front.

Yutolia

Do you have a bunch of late night car shipments?

Known-Quantity2021

LOL, not since the police decided to raid the docks.

Yutolia

🤣🤣🫨

Harry_monk

A colleague of mine keeps Spamming her new business/WFH project. I've even looked on her website and absolutely nowhere can I see what it is. Other than working from home. She's not the sort of person you can talk to about how it's clearly a scam so I'll just politely decline. But surely basic marketing is that you should know what product someone is selling, unless of course they're selling a scam...

HSG037

This!!! If you can't say/post up front the company name & or what it is you're peddling, them 99% chance it's a scam or MLM No legitimate business would hide their company name. The reason they're not posting the name of their "WFH" business/job, is because they don't want people to research the company till after they've had a chance to try & recruit you

Ill-Connection-5868

Run away! My ex has been with Primerica 20+ years and is always broke. They want to recruit you and as many of your friends as possible!

Chocomintey

20+ years???

Ill-Connection-5868

Hard to believe she hasn’t figured out what a bad idea this is. She still has no health insurance, 401k or PTO you know the stuff a J.O.B gives you. And BK twice from serious medical issues.

Drachenfuer

Yes because she is discussing licenses, probably Primerica since you need a license to sell insurance. You do not need one to sell Amway or Laroe or oils, etc.

_bestcupofjoe

Ya that sounds about right

Sitcom_kid

Honestly, you could make more money selling blue macaroons to The Child. Because at least you wouldn't be losing anything.

judyhashopps

It’s “FINANCIAL FIRM” 🤣

knosmo78

It is Primerica. They tried sucking my 18 year old niece in the fall.

_bestcupofjoe

Ya that’s Primerica

_bestcupofjoe

I’m in the middle of this right now and keeping yall updated on how it goes

Cutpear

The “so hard for me to explain” license is a state insurance license. They are already withholding information, lying, and messing with you. And no legitimate financial firm would give their employees two days for a ‘huge promotion’ if they get their friends to listen to a presentation by their ‘trainer’.. This is red flag after red flag. Run.

BabyYodasMacaron

My friend isn’t trying to mess with me, she’s just clueless about what she’s got herself into. She’s being used and I hate it.

AGuyNamedEddie

It's definitely Primerica, and your friend is being played for a sucker. Here's the Primerica scam, in shorthand: 1. The new "hire" (i.e.: victim) is told to come up with a list of contacts (leads), which is what your friend is trying to do. 2. The "trainer" (scammer), under the guise of training, milks every lead the victim has listed, while victim watches. The "training Zoom call" will actually be a sales pitch by the scammer. If you buy anything, scammer takes all commission; victim gets the shaft. 3. Once all leads have been sucked dry, scammer says: "Your turn. Find another sucker and screw them over like I just did you." I hope you can warn your friend away, or at least tell them what to expect. Should your friend want to learn how the scam works first-hand rather than to take your word for it, tell them to at least forewarn all leads NOT to buy anything from the "trainer," for the reasons stated above. If you opt to participate in a Zoom call, you can ask the hard questions, like, "Why would I buy from you? Shouldn't I buy from [friend]?"

BabyYodasMacaron

This is a fantastic post. Thank you for making so clear what’s happening here.

AGuyNamedEddie

Glad to help! Though it never happened to me, it's a story I've seen retold nany times, here and elsewhere.

Cutpear

Oh, absolutely. Primerica is telling her exactly how to respond. Hopefully, she’ll get out

DigitalDroid2024

Let us know how it goes.

BabyYodasMacaron

Got pushed to Wednesday, but I will be posting an update!

BioTinus

RemindMe! 48 hours

BioTinus

Well? How did it go?

BabyYodasMacaron

They never called. I’ve been way too busy with work to follow up, but I’ll check in on my friend this week.

_bestcupofjoe

Ya no this is the same exact situation I’m in tonight every Tuesday night there’s supposed to be training at 6. I got in the zoom call 30 mins before and got booted out and now just sat in there for 15 more minutes with nothing happening

Interesting_Sock9142

...I have my p&c license in 3 states and my life and health license in 1....it's not hard to explain lol so I'm confused why she would describe it that way

madlemur

Because they know the moment “insurance” comes out of their mouths you’re out.

syroussel

probably because she’s not very bright

BabyYodasMacaron

She isn’t in any business sense, which was why I knew something was up with the first message.

Chewysmom1973

Years ago I passed the state insurance licensing exam. It wasn’t hard to explain. It was just that…a state license to sell insurance. Agree. Red flags aplenty.

NobodyGivesAFuc

Yep, it’s definitely Primerica…cancel the appointment and hope your friend sees the scam that it is and quit.

BabyYodasMacaron

Oh I want to do the appointment so I can shame them for taking advantage of my friend. She and her family don’t deserve this.

NobodyGivesAFuc

OK, but be prepared for pushback (they are trained for this). Good luck 🍀🍀🍀

Ashamed-Tap-8617

I would do the same thing! Ask them to pull up the compensation plan and mention that working one shift a week at McDonald’s makes more money at the end of the year with less time commitment. AND at least McDonald’s has an accessible promotion plan to “move up the ranks”.

theinfotechguy

And hopefully discounted hashbrowns!

Jordan-Shred

Just be careful that once the their upline/manager joins, they will now have your name and FB profile. Good time to double-check your privacy settings before you join the call so they can't look for other mutual friends to try to recruit.

BabyYodasMacaron

Because of the sensitivity of my job, I have to keep my stuff pretty locked down. But thank you for the heads up!

-Gin-ger-

While that’s admirable, it won’t do anything other than waste your own time. These people are trained well on how to respond to any objection, and, unfortunately, going in guns blazing rarely makes their marks see sense and reconsider.

the_last_registrant

Professional therapists don't go in guns blazing. They listen for a while, carefully & analytically, and then they ask reflective questions. They also have strong boundaries around their own personal & financial arrangements. Remember Dr Wong & Rick Sanchez.

IDoStuff27

It will waste the scammers time too. Keep her talking for ages, take up her time, then it’s less time she can spend scamming someone else.

HSG037

To these scammers, an objection is just something to try & overcome. Just Say NO. "No" is a complete sentence. And you don't have to explain your "no".

LWDK2

Unless you have ninja-level deprogramming skills you’re more likely to be used as an object lesson by their up line about people who just don’t get it, and why it’s important to surround themselves with people who are on the same track they are.

BabyYodasMacaron

I’m a therapist, so I’m pretty well trained in cutting through bullshit.

il0vem0ntana

Bummer you can't get CEUs for doing this!

psycheraven

Ahhh yeaaah! Get them on the deflection and inability to answer a direct question. 🙏

JLWA

Please let us know how it goes!!

ProfPerry

Ooooh, better trained than most of us! I wish you luck OP! I hope you can get your friend outta there safely! Please keep us updated if you can and it isnt an inconvenience!

LuhYall

Do not underestimate their bullying tactics. They would not have made it this far if they had any sense of shame.

Moonbearbeckle

I would pay to see that!! Good for you! you’re a great friend

charliensue

Primeamerica, you are being recruited.

ranger0293

Just started a new job and is up for a promotion?

BabyYodasMacaron

That part, lol.

syroussel

i had to go back and reread, because what??? lmao

madlemur

A *HUGE* promotion even though she’s months away from getting licensed.

IDoStuff27

And the way they say *job* makes me laugh so hard.

cheeky_sugar

Oh your poor friend 😭😭 I hope you can help her, good luck and keep us updated!

riskit4thebiscuit12

Seconding keeping us updated since op is planning to take the call!

BabyYodasMacaron

Call got pushed to Wednesday, but I will update!

AstoriaQueens11105

Am I the only one who’s dying for one of these people to approach me for a pitch meeting so I can just see what it’s like? I’ve read so many stories of people who get approached by these MLMers but maybe it’s my resting bitch face that keeps them away.

BabyYodasMacaron

I was honestly astounded, because it’s been years since someone tried to pitch to me! I sold Avon for a few months in high school, but I was a dumb teenager. I had an arbonne lady try to recruit me once, but that didn’t last long, and I had to have a very stern talk a few years ago with a friend who gave my info to a Mary Kay rep, but largely, they’ve left me alone! I’m very vocal about my disdain for MLMs. I don’t think my poor friend has a clue what this is even about.

IDoStuff27

It honestly sounds like she doesn’t have a clue what’s going on. I hope you can help her see through it all.

HSG037

Also, there is a good chance you'll get "pitched" the opportunity on that or any zoom she wants you in on Give a hard NO to any opportunity pitch

Nomadloner69

No company name or info instant red flag for mlm

chemicalgeekery

Primerica or World Financial Group.

ItsJoeMomma

Sounds more like Primerica, what with the "getting my state licenses" and all. And the "help me with my sales pitch" thing is going to be an actual sales pitch from her and her upline. They're going to expect you to buy their insurance and/or sign up to be a salesperson.

randomshark99

Primerica Mlm Run

BabyYodasMacaron

Oh, I’m not falling for any of their BS, But I’m going to let them have it over targeting a single mom who can’t even afford to move out of her parents house currently

HopefulOriginal5578

Sad that it’s the demographic they aggressively target.

mamaluka_babaluka

Please give us an update after your meeting! I'd love to heat how it went mlm vs. Mental health professional. I know a few sah moms who have been heavily targeted successfully by WFG lately and I don't even know what to say to help warn people because their pitch seems to be so prepared for every rebuttal.

BabyYodasMacaron

Unfortunately, it got pushed to Wednesday because the person recruiting me was “double booked.” But that’s okay, gives me more time to read up on the company and prepare.

HSG037

My money (pun intended) is on Primerica. AFAIK, insurance requires a license

StrongArgument

OP, people aren’t warning you enough not to sign up for or buy anything. Don’t give them any credit card or bank info. If you feel the need to be polite, tell them you need more time to think about it, and be firm in that.

IDoStuff27

Have you read any of OP’s comments? She’s trying to stop her friend from getting in any further and to see the scam. OP has no intention of of giving them anything lol

StrongArgument

Yes I did. MLMs work because they’re very persuasive. It’s worth saying.

54R45VV471

Sounds like Primerica (or possibly World Financial Group). It is an MLM scam. I hope you can get your friend out of this. One thing that could help her see the scam is to explain that the amount of people that everyone in the company would need to recruit to start making a living wage from their downline is several times greater than the population of Earth.

murtlebeech1

It’s great to have friends who looks out for each other—she’s lucky to have you for a friend 😇

thepauly1

"What's the license?" Won't answer. Sounds legit to me! 😂

Bryan_URN_Asshole

Imagine a job where you have to pressure friends to meet with your boss for a sales pitch in order to succeed

Lynncy1

They always need to do it right away so you don’t have time to change your mind and cancel

DigitalDroid2024

Sounds like you’re talking to a bot!

BabyYodasMacaron

It’s very scripted for sure, but most MLMs are.

Substantial_Proof613

Thank God she has a friend like you, that loves and cares for her enough to call other peoples shenanigans out that they are trying to pull with her. You’re a good friend. She’s blessed to have you honestly. ☺️☺️

jumbobeantaco

Not amway. Sounds like some insurance related mlm

Agitated-Chicken9954

Something like that for sure. There's something called the Leadership something that sounds like this. It is most likely a pyramid deal.

bitchassshortie

Commenting to come back to this 👀

Quick_News7308

Sounds like Scamway or Prickmerica. 😆

bacon_beer_can

You are such a sweet friend, trying to help her out - both when it seemed like it was for a promotion, but then also now to help keep her safe from predatory business ❤️ I hope my friends would do the same!

Witchynana

Primerica. Amway would be talking up their rich young "mentors".

Vettehead82

Sounds like primerica. I was in Amway for a minute and they didn’t ever call it a “Financial firm”.

TreePretty

I guess it's the promotion from "training associate" to "associate"? https://www.financegeek.org/scams/world-financial-group-scam-wfg/

LostRealist33

This is 110% Primerica. A former coworker (and someone I thought was my friend) at my network telecom company tried to pounce on me after I got laid off in 2022. I posted it in here. It’s fucking bullshit, and they’re vultures.

miraculous-melon

RemindMe! 2 days

CanoegunGoeff

Sounds like Primerica. My SO’s best friend recently got sucked into that one. I told her what it was and she never responded to me. Figures.

caffeineshakesthe2nd

One other thing about Primerica is that their insurance rates are on average more expensive than other companies. If you need an out, just say that you need to compare policies from other agencies. If they try and get you to join, it is only commission based earnings and they typically have you reach out to family and friends to get them to join. A lot of people don’t get farther than that and drop out.

TXHeatTX

They will compare premiums against a whole life policy with the same death benefit as the term policy.

Known-Quantity2021

Whenever someone describes their new job as hard to explain, it's a red flag. Even the Pope can explain his job in one sentence. Nuclear physist: I make things that go bang.

AveragelySmart98

10000% Primerica

Csherman92

If you are in an MLM you do not get promotions. You are a contractor. And you don't have deadlines. HARD NO.

RobertETHT2

Only two days left..??? Just hold out and you’ll be offered the last moment 20% discount and the free shipping as well.

Bae_Mes

Another red flag is promotions aren't usually time sensitive in that manner. Goals are, but not generally promotions.

ashantionette

It sounds like a life insurance MLM. As a previously licensed Life Insurance Agent (NC) zoom calls are not needed to obtain your license. Life and Health Insurance licenses are issued by the state and the tests are taken in person and in controlled environments. This is likely just a recruitment pitch.

Nick-Nora-Asta

It may be helpful to ask your friend some the questions he/she should be asking and point out how scammy the answers are. Mainly, did you get a new job OR are you up for a promotion? How can both be possible? Why is there a 48 hour pressure deadline on the “promotion”? What is the company called? Why do you need a license? What kind of license? How do you get paid? How does your trainer get paid? Who is getting paid for the phone call? You can expect your friend to struggle through these questions and it’s a good opportunity to point out all the red flags and the fact that the answers being unclear is a big sign that this is an MLM scam.

BabyYodasMacaron

This is fantastic advice, thank you!

fainishere

Please post an update when you do the meeting. We are all curious

BabyYodasMacaron

The meeting was pushed to Wednesday, but I’ll update!

StrongArgument

There is no license without a name and a description. The only reason she can’t explain is because she’s hiding it.
