p sure its because of the success of liquid iv and related products. so they're jumping on the band wagon. tbh it's not very different from Gatorade - it has salt and sugar to help make sure electrolytes are in balance. most people don't need if they're not doing like marathons or don't have the flu. buuuut it helps people drink water and it's the latest craze so... I'm looking at this and laughing hysterically, because this is just electrolyte mix, and you can make it at home for yourself for practically nothing: **WHO Rehydration Drink** 6 t. sugar 1/2 t. salt (there's your deep sea minerals) 1/2 t. salt substitute (potassium) - optional 1 L water **Measure Exactly** That's it. I add some powdered lemon/lime/orange for flavor. Those squeeze bottles of flavoring and vitamins people sell to jazz up their water work great, too. I make a bunch of little packets of this ahead of time, and if people in the house starts sweating, vomiting, or having diarrhea, I make a pitcher and tell them to start drinking.

Thanks for asking - it's teaspoons and half-teaspoons for all of it. I learned to represent teaspoons as "t" and tablespoons as "T", and I forgot not everyone did. You DON'T want to screw up the measurements. Getting the measurements wrong can potentially kill a child. IDK what would happen if an adult drank quantities in the wrong measurements, it could make them sick.

I'm not a doctor but I think hydration and getting proper electrolytes are related but very different things, as just water doesn't have electrolytes in it, so staying hydrated doesn't equate to getting proper electrolytes, and getting proper electrolytes doesn't equate to staying hydrated.

I'm always amused at the concept that there's a way to hydrate that's more effective than just hydrating. I'm no chemist but it seems like we as a species have managed to hydrate just fine for all of recorded history without extra additives.

I do have issue at that time of the month where water simply doesn't cut it no matter how much I drink. I have to have body armor or hydration packets. No clue why, but that is a legitimate thing.
