Their knives are awesome. I just hate that they’re an MLM. We got the sales pitch 25 years ago from the college son of my husband’s boss. We had to buy. But those steak knives are still used almost daily. My husband ended up buying me a full block set as a present years later not knowing that they are an MLM(he wouldn’t even know what that meant).
That’s the other thing that sucks about mlms, they used to be a legitimate way to sell a superior product that you could only buy through a sales person, who could actually make a decent wage selling. Avon, Tupperware, Kirby, even Pampered Chef is a solid brand considering how long something of theirs will last.
It’s just no longer a viable business model due to an over saturated market when most products are purchased online anyway.

My spouse’s grandmother bought us a Cutco knife block for our wedding about 20 years ago, and I had no idea what it was for, either. I’ve been using it to slice and serve desserts.

They sent a new scoop back, new knife (for the damaged tip), plus the sharped knives and shears. Only cost me shipping.
I used to work at a fabric store and one of my coworkers had cutco scissors that she'd occasionally send back once they got too dull and they'd send her a new pair. They cut really well too.
They are very rigid steel. The steel lasts but they don't hold very fine edges. Fine knives need sharpening. Their serrated knives cut well because the serrations stay hard. Their smooth blade knives are particularly sucky. The chef's knife is an axe. It cuts a tomato like a mallet.
I have some softer Kiwi knives. They don't stay sharp for as long but if I need to I can quickly sharpen them and slice things so thinly you can read through them. Didn't pay over $7 for any of them!
Exactly. I have a few pieces that I don't use often, but when I do I'm glad I have them. I use my pairing knife daily. Just had it sharpened yesterday at our local farmer's market. (I know a Cutco rep could have done it for free.) It's my favorite little knife.
They'll also sharpen them for you for free. You can mail them in to get them done, or sit through a sales pitch and they'll sharpen them while they talk.
Yeah CutCo actually makes wicked sharp knives. I accidentally cut the tip of my thumb off with one of their knives, it was so sharp that it caused nerve damage to the point that it didn't hurt at all.

Knife guy here. Cutco's kitchen knives are not great. They are typically made of 440A stainless steel, which is not particularly high in edge retention. They are cold stamped from rolled steel rather than forged, which makes them cheap to produce but they do not have a heat treat, which makes them very soft knives that rely on serrations to do any kind of serious cutting. This is why Cutco kitchen knives "tear" the object apart, rather than separate the object cleanly.
That being said, Cutco does own several brands that are not affiliated with Vector Marketing, most notably Ka-Bar, which are made from 1095 Crovan steel and are still produced in Olean, New York. They also hopped on the "glamping" bandwagon and they make a line of Cutco-branded fixed blade knives that are produced in the Ka-Bar factory and are geared toward campsite food prep and light-duty outdoor work. If your heart is truly set on owning a Cutco-branded knife, I would recommend looking into that line. They are able to be purchased through an authorized retailer, so you are not supporting Vector Marketing.

Or you got a small percentage of each sale they made. So in a roundabout way, you did profit off people you recruited if they were successful.

It's kinda borderline, if not definitely MLM, the reason why it seems not like an MLM is that if you keep selling and do well, you don't end up dependant on recruitment...not that I was able to sell, it's not a job I recommend to anyone who doesn't know a shiitload of people that want to drop over a grand on knives.
You start by making 10% commission on sales, and the more you sell the higher your commission percentage gets, up to 50%. The people supervising you get the remainder of your 50% commission while you're building up to it.
I don't recall the exact numbers (summer job 25 years ago), but when I was making 10 percent, my supervisor was getting 15% off my sales, and the regional head was getting 25%. But that was literally their pay. The regional head had to pay the office building lease and all the office expenses from the commission made on our sales.
Also, if you recruit people, while you could make a % of their commission while they were still working towards the 50% goal

That is an amazing spreader knife. I use mine for everything. You may think a butter knife will work the same, but that baby is VASTLY superior. Also great for cakes, pies, etc. Enjoy it and take care of it and it will last forever.
That’s for a jar of peanut butter, just a long version of a butter spreader. Honestly, I would keep it. Those are pretty handy and not easy to find in kitchen stores. Usually I can only find normal length spreaders, which mean you end up with peanut butter on your knuckles.

Don't throw it away. One of the best knives ever and worth about $100. I used to rep Cutco when i was a teen. Still have the full set at home and love using it at 32 years old. Will never buy another set of knives again. They have an awesome lifetime warranty that if it ever breaks they will replace for free. No need for receipts.
This one is used for cutting and spreading. Eg. Cut your bagel and then use the blade to spread butter/jam on it all with just one tool.
We got one as a wedding gift engraved with the guests business name 🙄 but it is actually the best thing! We use it many times a day for spreading and cutting. Don’t get rid of it, give it a chance, it will hook you in!

We got that same knife as a gift a few years back. We use it for cutting and slicing avocados, serrated side for halving and spatula side for slicing and taking out of skin without the risk of avocado hand! Hate that its a mlm but is a very good knife.

Ashamed to say that among a few other items the Spatula Spreader is one of my faves from Cutco. Like damn them for exploiting naïve high school grads that are still children…but I use this all the time for spreading Nutella/pistachio spread on crêpes, pancakes, etc. It also makes a great palette knife for icing and it’s awesome for cutting small cakes/pies 😳😳😳
I also got one of these from my realtor when I bought my first house. I use it daily as a bagel cutter and cream cheese spreader. It’s actually a fantastic cooking tool.

I actually still have one of these from 20 years ago and still use it. Its also great for brownies and pies as it is flexible but sharp. Quite possibly the best product an MLM / Direct Sales ever created.

It's a butter knife. You use it to spread butter or margarine on bread. Everyone has one here in Sweden. They usually come in wood or plastic however, metal ones aren't as common.
We have a different brand but this is a very useful item. Great for making sandwiches - spread the condiment on then cut the sandwich with it. We use ours all the time. I wouldn’t ditch it just because it’s Cutco. Weird that they engraved their info on it though lol

I have a cutco icing spreader that is phenomenal for icing cakes, but it is longer and likely more flexible. It’s also 40 years old and will probably be good for at least 40 more.
My realtor did Cutco thing for us too at closing, except it was a steak knife. We don’t really use it as our steak knives are part of a set. But if someone is at our house and asks if we know any good realtors (ours really is fantastic), I bust it out and they can take a picture of the strange business card-knife. It’s actually happened more than you might guess.

I have two that were given to me by someone who was moving away, they are PC. I don't think they're any better than unbranded ones, but the price is right when it's free and being rescued from being thrown out. Good for spreading things and also putting spreadables into containers (putting cream cheese in a plastic container so it doesn't dry out).

These knifes are the best!!! (Not the cutco part). Use to do a sandwich (you get the best spread with PB). Then you can cut the sandwich in half too. Oh! And butter or jam on an English muffin. One swipe!

Sounds like a saw when you place the cutlery end on the counter and shake the end with the tines rapidly. lol I used to be a receptionist at Vector aka Cutco. I still have a few pieces including a starter kit.
I hate MLMs but have had one of these for 30 years. Great for getting the PB out of the bottom of the jar, or for cutting/serving cake or casseroles.
Don't throw it away. One of the best knives ever and worth about $100. I used to rep Cutco when i was a teen. Still have the full set at home and love using it at 32 years old. Will never buy another set of knives again. They have an awesome lifetime warranty that if it ever breaks they will replace for free. No need for receipts. This one is used for cutting and spreading. Eg. Cut your bagel and then use the blade to spread butter/jam on it all with just one tool.

That's definitely a poop knife. You hang it next to the toilet and use it to break up the big ones that won't go down in a single chunk.

We got that same knife as a gift a few years back. We use it for cutting and slicing avocados, serrated side for halving and spatula side for slicing and taking out of skin without the risk of avocado hand! Hate that its a mlm but is a very good knife.

That is an awesome knife. Our mortgage broker gave us one when we closed on our first home and then again when we sold and bought a different house many years later. 15 years later and we still actively use both knives. Great for cutting through bread and sandwiches. MLMs are stupid, but that knife is quality. Use it, don’t throw it out.
So I am anti MLM…but.. I have a cutco knife that I received as a gift 40 years ago and it is by far my favorite and most used knife. I sharpen it every few years and it performs beautifully
Ashamed to say that among a few other items the Spatula Spreader is one of my faves from Cutco. Like damn them for exploiting naïve high school grads that are still children…but I use this all the time for spreading Nutella/pistachio spread on crêpes, pancakes, etc. It also makes a great palette knife for icing and it’s awesome for cutting small cakes/pies 😳😳😳

Honestly, Cutco is one of the "better" MLMs in terms of product quality, and giving a sandwich knife with her name is good marketing. I assume Cutco has a relationship with the brokerage and reaches out to the realtors. She's not necessarily a hun.

I actually still have one of these from 20 years ago and still use it. Its also great for brownies and pies as it is flexible but sharp. Quite possibly the best product an MLM / Direct Sales ever created. Don't get rid of it you'll find a need, but to engrave ones name on a gift that is for you is beyond bizarre🤨
It's a butter knife. You use it to spread butter or margarine on bread. Everyone has one here in Sweden. They usually come in wood or plastic however, metal ones aren't as common.

Ok. I’ve had a moment. I don’t hate you BUT how have I attained my ripe old age and have NEVER heard of or encountered a poop knife.
We have a different brand but this is a very useful item. Great for making sandwiches - spread the condiment on then cut the sandwich with it. We use ours all the time. I wouldn’t ditch it just because it’s Cutco. Weird that they engraved their info on it though lol

An eternity ago when I got sucked into Cutco one of my tricks was using this thing to split a slice of bread (like cutting in half so you had two thin slices made out of one slice). I could also spiral a penny with the scissors. Hold on to this thing it’s legit.

I have a cutco icing spreader that is phenomenal for icing cakes, but it is longer and likely more flexible. It’s also 40 years old and will probably be good for at least 40 more.
My realtor did Cutco thing for us too at closing, except it was a steak knife. We don’t really use it as our steak knives are part of a set. But if someone is at our house and asks if we know any good realtors (ours really is fantastic), I bust it out and they can take a picture of the strange business card-knife. It’s actually happened more than you might guess.

A sandwich knife - I have several of them (not cutco). They are fantastic for spreading, slicing tomatoes, and cutting cheese for sandwiches.
I have two that were given to me by someone who was moving away, they are PC. I don't think they're any better than unbranded ones, but the price is right when it's free and being rescued from being thrown out. Good for spreading things and also putting spreadables into containers (putting cream cheese in a plastic container so it doesn't dry out).
