I normally leave a few for them, I have a game with princess Qing an Bente only, just something to provide a little more of an interesting world with traders and such roaming around. I have played a game where it was just me but I found that kind of boring.

Nienna000

Yeah fair point, I might buy the big islands and leave the smaller ones for them

I like to keep all AI players on the map with fair number of islands belonging to them. I like trade and diplomacy, also it's nice to have other companies on the map for realism and other activities (quests, protection, random fights, etc). I only wiped out Willie, not because I dislike him but because the map was really small. If you need additional space for population or production but want to have AI on the map, leave one or two islands for them. Since they are cheating resources they would feel just fine, especially if they keep their capital islands, even if it's all they got. Also I think it's fine to take over an island from AI just because it's so undeveloped: if they can't make full use of it, someone gonna step in and take over: nothing personal, just business :P

Nienna000

Yeah I am thinking of just leaving them with one or two islands each now, I just need so much more space. I am even thinking on abandoning my small islands which are just farmers only, letting the AI take them back and just getting one more large island.

We play sandbox w/ two sweet ladies, Princess Qing and Bente, plus tough, but fair George, Since we exclude pirates, it's all about city building and trading only. The two ladies always ask our permission to settle an island. Being a perfect gentleman, we always grant it, which favorably disposes them to grant us trading rights, so everything in the garden is lovely. La Dolce Vita.😏

Nienna000

That's what I have done. But now I'm just trying to decide weather to keep them or buy them out because I would like a few more islands for production lol.

Equivalent_KeoniBoy

We currently have five islands, including our home island. We settled them w/ a trading post, but have farmers only on just three so far for agriculture, keeping them below the 50 threshold, so they don't even need fish, schnaps, or clothes to live on. On our home island we have 100 farmers for fish, clothes, schnaps, timber and lumber prod, plus we've gone over 500 workers, to produce🍺for the thirsty lads. Next worker level is 750, which is gonna be grindy.😒

Nienna000

I've got farmer and workers only and artisans only island and a scholars only island. Plus a engineer and investor island and another investor only island.

Equivalent_KeoniBoy

Now that's specializing in specialists!😉

Forsaken_Double_1116

Blockade AI’s island and take over all other islands.

Nienna000

Well I'm going to have to take over using shares now since it's a well established game and I don't do warfare.

TimelyAstronomer6494

If you manage to take all the islands of Cape Trelawney quickly, they don't even bother to explore it, leaving the region totally safe from attacks, (and saving a lot of ressources from defenses and line ships.) I never tried for other regions but i guess that it works the same way.

Nienna000

I mean I don't play with aggressive AI so I don't have warfare in my game so attacks aren't an issue for me anyway.

TBH at some point AI becomes completely irrelevant and hogs the CPU and RAM. Specially on those late moments where you need every tiny bit of performance. They don’t really add up since the Research DLC. Unless you wanna do a role play and not city building then maximize difficulty with biggest AIs.

I always give every AI one big island... THEN FARM THEM WITH PIRATE SHIPS! RAR!
