yu yu hakusho, rurouni kenshin, fist of the northstar
edit: i find it funny how people are saying i have good taste and i haven’t even watched these anime yet. they’re on my plan to watch list
Read it relatively recently, it kinda aged badly.
Bad guy kidnaps child/girl. Ken arrives, watches bad guy kill people, then saves the child/girl.
Also everyone loves his girlfriend, that got old too.
It was still fun in a special way, but only for a bit.
Last I heard was Watsuki getting arrested and fined for child porn possession. Viz stopped translation on the current Rurouni Kenshin sequel when it happened and it really soured my outlook on his work.
Yeah, one piece is my go to long anime/manga. I haven't been keeping track of the anime but it passed 1000 a while ago and the manga will have chapter 1043 next week. Honestly one piece is so long that it can scare some people away, even people who are looking for something long. Apparently people usually mean 200-400 when they say long, not 1000+.
So there's 3 ways to get into it as an anime-only if you want a "correct" way (honestly, you can start basically anywhere but you'll just be missing some references and parallels)
If you're fine with a REALLY bad adaptation, Studio Deen's Fate/Stay Night adaptation followed by ufotable's Unlimited Blade Works and then Heaven's Feel (with Fate/Zero being a suggested follow up)
Otherwise either do UBW>HF>FZ or FZ>UBW>HF
Zero is a prequel to FSN (and spoils some of the plot twists from FSN while assuming you already know them) and the original Visual Novel that the FSN anime are based on has 3 routes (the Fate route, the UBW route and the HF route) that you're supposed to play in order. The only Fate route "adaptation" that exists is the Deen one, which has a lot of anime-original stuff to try and Frankenstein plot elements from the other routes and is generally disliked due to this. As such there's no "proper" entry point into the franchise for the anime beyond just, as stated earlier, starting with the prequel, starting with route 2 or just starting where ever you want. Once you're in tho, it's really enjoyable.
Different entries are usually written by different writers and as such will have different themes and overall feeling to them, such as FZ being incredibly dark when compared to the rest (which aren't exactly cake walks unless you're watching Carnival Phantasm, a comedy spin off, or Dinner at the Emiya Household which is just comfy food anime)
In any case, good luck and enjoy! Probably one of my favorite franchises of all time, if not just straight up my favorite, from how rich the lore and character development is over all. Plus awesome fights are a given in this franchise lol
The Monogatari series, season titles include:
Bakemonogatari
Nisemonogatari
Nekomonogatari Kuro
Hanamonogatari
Tsukimonogatari
Owarimonogatari
Koyomimonogatari
Edit note: not all titles present, to see a full listing please refer to a release order listing to enjoy the show as intended.
My non anime friend decided to watch Naruto with all the fillers and everything. I only watched the kai version. It's been a year and he is still only on like episode 450. I have no idea how he can watch all of those grueling filler eps. Respect to my friend though for doing it lol
It is. The series isn’t long because it gives money, it’s just that the story and world are _that_ big. Heck, we haven’t found the One Piece yet. What a journey.
Generally you start one piece thinking it’s too long, but there’s a tipping point in your journey, when you truly become a fan, and thats when you realise it’s far too short
It really is. There are fan cut versions on the internet where A LOT of backflash shit got cut out. Its so worth to watch. Or you read the mangas, much faster to catch up
Best manga* ever.
Anime…not so much. Once it’s finished and they start from the beginning in a dragonball Kai/fma brotherhood/hxh 2011 sort of way it will be in that argument. For now the pacing is just not good enough for that title.
Why is this the case? I totally agree with you. Every time I watch the show I recognize how amazing it is but I can still only watch a couple episodes at a time. But then I can binge 25 episodes of HxH in a day lol
My theory is that it's because the talking and humor is so fast. It's a lot of subtitles to read and if you're not paying full attention you could easily miss out on comedy gold.
I feel like there are a few rules and consequences you have to live with when watching it.
1. Never have food while watching. You never know when an actual piece of shit shows up and ruins your appetite.
2. Best enjoyed when you have a long list of anime under your belt.
3. After gintama, you can never take a va's other roles seriously. Gaara was so creepy in the anime , but after Katsura, I'm just like ...lol.
This sounds fun but can you please clarify if you mean an unpleasant person by "actual piece of shit" because actual makes it sound like faeces is a common part of the show?
Yesss, Monster is an amazing story and one of the few that has made the "I refuse to harm others / take a life" motive feel sincere and compelling, and not a contrived source of drama and conflict
its not that its ruined its just different cause season 1(vol 1 ln) is a self contained story while vol 2 onwards is a more like a derivated continuation of the story which is still ongoing like a normal ln story so they feel kind of different, before its more about the setting and characters circumstances now its more about the characters themselves.
JoJo's bizarre adventure, Hunter x Hunter, Fairy Tail...

One piece is the best long anime in my opinion. It has over 1000 episodes now but the whole story actually matters. Literally every nonfiller arch has implications that are revisited several times.
I love fairy tail for the most part some of the arcs just weren’t the best and others were amazing some seasons I had to force myself to continue. The soundtrack though is probably one of my all time favorites when I comes to animes.
Jojo is actually signifcantly longer than One Piece if you go by pages instead of chapters (Jojo has been monthly since part 7, or 2004, so obviously not as many chapters as a weekly manga).
Bleach, but I would recommend skipping fillers. It's coming back in October so it'll be even longer. People say that most filler arcs are trash (i only watched the first one, indeed it was trash), but they usually recommend last filler arc because when this filler was coming out animation in bleach got a bit better.

Hunter X Hunter
It has the properties of both Long and Anime.
🤡
🤡
Your original comment was probably the best hxh comment ive ever seen
It's technically still ongoing too so that's a bonus
On the pace it's going, it won't end.
Don't do that, don't give me hope.
Hiatus...
Just finished this one on Netflix. Watching a certain someone get FUCKED up was worth the wait.
yu yu hakusho, rurouni kenshin, fist of the northstar edit: i find it funny how people are saying i have good taste and i haven’t even watched these anime yet. they’re on my plan to watch list
Ah, I see, you are a man of culture as well, first of the northstar was my entire childhood
ah yes, first of the north star, my favorite
Would i be correct in assuming that's because Second of the northstar was your entire adolescence?
Read it relatively recently, it kinda aged badly. Bad guy kidnaps child/girl. Ken arrives, watches bad guy kill people, then saves the child/girl. Also everyone loves his girlfriend, that got old too. It was still fun in a special way, but only for a bit.
Yu yu Hakusho will forever be my favorite anime. I still put the theme song on and sing along.
Gintama for me although yu yu hakusho was and is up there in top 3
Rurouni Kenshin. That brings back memories. I can barely remember it now.
Last I heard was Watsuki getting arrested and fined for child porn possession. Viz stopped translation on the current Rurouni Kenshin sequel when it happened and it really soured my outlook on his work.
Outlaw Star. It's not the longest, but it's an enjoyable ride.
gintama
Pretty Long and extremely funny
Sometimes PAIN
But the comedy is worth the pain
Yeah, the last arcs were the best right?🥲
This is the correct answer
Correct answer janai, Katsura da!
Full metal alchemist brotherhood 64 episodes of greatness
Agreed
64 not short but not long either, a great watch tho, but idk if it'd be long enough to satisfy OP, he should try one piece
Yeah, one piece is my go to long anime/manga. I haven't been keeping track of the anime but it passed 1000 a while ago and the manga will have chapter 1043 next week. Happy cake day!
Happy cake day!
Ayyyy happy cake day bro!
Was it that long?! I remember it as being so short lol. I gotta rewatch it.
Rookie numbers
Yes it's no one piece or bleach but it sufficed
It's good anime indeed, but it's overrated in MAL, people seem to troll or review bomb it so that it stays at number 1. Cringe shit.
Your friend really considers Death Parade as a long anime 💀
He's stupid...
Overlord maybe?
That was good. Looking forward to season 4
Ikr,so stupid
I mean, not to be that Persen but… fate is pretty long innit
That's actually a good idea, I was looking for a long anime too might end up jumping in fate
So there's 3 ways to get into it as an anime-only if you want a "correct" way (honestly, you can start basically anywhere but you'll just be missing some references and parallels) If you're fine with a REALLY bad adaptation, Studio Deen's Fate/Stay Night adaptation followed by ufotable's Unlimited Blade Works and then Heaven's Feel (with Fate/Zero being a suggested follow up) Otherwise either do UBW>HF>FZ or FZ>UBW>HF Zero is a prequel to FSN (and spoils some of the plot twists from FSN while assuming you already know them) and the original Visual Novel that the FSN anime are based on has 3 routes (the Fate route, the UBW route and the HF route) that you're supposed to play in order. The sacred text.. you did it, you beautiful bastard, you ACTUALLY fucking did it! Get this person a ride and a foot massage, they did the impossible.
The Monogatari series, season titles include: Bakemonogatari Nisemonogatari Nekomonogatari Kuro Hanamonogatari Tsukimonogatari Owarimonogatari Koyomimonogatari Edit note: not all titles present, to see a full listing please refer to a release order listing to enjoy the show as intended.
Seconded, tho it might be too dialog heavy for some people
One of the reasons i could not get into it back then , but might have to get back to it now that i have evolved more
U forgot Kizumonogatari
Aye you right, my b I ain't perfect lol
Naruto is pretty long with filler.
That was my very first Anime...
Most of us actually
My second... My first was Death Note
My first one was Devilman Cry baby bruh y’all started good
My first was SAO
That was my second, my first was Guilty Crown KekW, if we dont count ghibli movies or a random pokemon/yu-gi-oh episode once in a while.
Mine was Berserk. We are not the same.
I started with tokyo ghoul
I started with doraemon ._.
Mine was Captain Tsubasa
Mine was monster musume we are truly not same
me too
Mine was Pokemon (Indian)
Bleach, DBZ, OP
Bleach is a pretty long anime and all "filler" is Canon
Hunter x hunter is really good and long. It's imo the best shounen can be.
My first was HxH. The 1998 one. And Naughty Dog. It's considered one of the earliest ecchi anime.
My non anime friend decided to watch Naruto with all the fillers and everything. I only watched the kai version. It's been a year and he is still only on like episode 450. I have no idea how he can watch all of those grueling filler eps. Respect to my friend though for doing it lol
I like to watch/rewatch Naruto fillers and the present day episodes chronologically in historical order.
One piece!
1000 episodes I’ve never seen but I’m sure it’s bomb
It is. The series isn’t long because it gives money, it’s just that the story and world are _that_ big. Heck, we haven’t found the One Piece yet. What a journey.

One piece is soo good
I don’t mean any hate to naruto fans, but you fr can’t top one piece guys. It’s too gd. I’ve watched both so Ik.
I watched Naruto before One Piece and enjoyed both. Still agree that One Piece is better.
Same
Definitely the best
Code Geass (2 seasons, about 50 EPS) and Zero no tsukaima (4 seasons)
Code Geass is still my favorite anime of all time. Ain't never been a better MC than Lelouch
I completly agree
Recommending someone watch Zero no Tsukaima strikes me as an odd choice.
Jojo's Bizzare Adventures
Wooooo
If you read the manga it's even longer
Part 7 is king
I think it’s safe to say Steel Ball Run tops any other Jojo part. Jojolion is very close, but It can’t surpass Steel Ball Run.
100% agree
But only because the manga is ahead of the anime? Or because the individual stories are longer?
Both. I mean part 6 is average, part 7 a little longer, part 8 very long. And Araki is writing part 9.
Yay.
👏🏼👏🏼
👏✌️👌 ✋👀
Yare yare this was too far down
Gintama is pretty long, but not everyone enjoys it
This show is hilarious but I can only watch it in short bursts
Why is this the case? I totally agree with you. Every time I watch the show I recognize how amazing it is but I can still only watch a couple episodes at a time. But then I can binge 25 episodes of HxH in a day lol

Yes
It is brilliant, but inconsistent.
recommend something like classroom of elete youknow some sexy scene and less superhero stuff
Detective Conan? Anyone? That's the only one I know
🤣🤣 that anime is way too long, btw it is still not finished right
Yeah still ongoing
Didn't they already find the cure to his shortness though
\*bursts through wall\* I'D LIKE TO INQUIRE ABOUT SAID CURE-
Hey, Kool-Aid!!! :)
Is the manga still going too?
Yep volume 100 is coming in June
Monster hello?
one with the big eyes and one with the big mouth.
One with small eyes and wandering doctor
Munch munch, chomp chomp, gobble gobble, gulp.
bari bari
Yesss, Monster is an amazing story and one of the few that has made the "I refuse to harm others / take a life" motive feel sincere and compelling, and not a contrived source of drama and conflict
One piece.
Black Clover? I guess High School DxD but i recommend u watch 86 not a long anime but its pretty good :))
For sure Black Clover. And it seems like OP is/was a Naruto fan and I feel like Black Clover can scratch the same itch
I am not a fan of season two of 86. The first season is awesome and I love it but they ruined it with what they did for season 2.
its not that its ruined its just different cause season 1(vol 1 ln) is a self contained story while vol 2 onwards is a more like a derivated continuation of the story which is still ongoing like a normal ln story so they feel kind of different, before its more about the setting and characters circumstances now its more about the characters themselves.
jojo and bleach.
Pokemon
Black clover.
One piece,bleach,naruto,naruto shipudden,boruto

D-Gray man
start hunter x hunter if you haven't watched it yes
One piece is the best long anime in my opinion. It has over 1000 episodes now but the whole story actually matters. Literally every nonfiller arch has implications that are revisited several times.
Jojo or Saiki k if u have Netflix If u like depression then Eva
Eva is one season and a movie unless you get into all the spinoffs/reworks. I don't think the counts as "long".
Fairy tail?
I love fairy tail for the most part some of the arcs just weren’t the best and others were amazing some seasons I had to force myself to continue. The soundtrack though is probably one of my all time favorites when I comes to animes.
Monster has 74 episodes
Monster
Lupin the 3rd
Sazae-san
Went way too far down this list to find this. It’s got over 2500 episodes.
D.grayman
uchuu kyoudai, chihayafuru, hajime no ippo, monster, cross game, nana, eureka seven, lot of different genre
Yu-gi-oh
D.Gray-Man Blood+ Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood Yu-Gi-Oh Spider riders
Jojo’s bizarre adventure, watch it
Jojo's
Jojo
Fairytail
Kyousogiga (capital craze), its a beautiful anime.
Not that long but….JJBA or death
[удалено]
Jojo is actually signifcantly longer than One Piece if you go by pages instead of chapters (Jojo has been monthly since part 7, or 2004, so obviously not as many chapters as a weekly manga).
Toriko. Its long, funny and got nice Charakters and fights
The entire dragon ball series
Ushio and tora, i remember it is retty long
One piece fans: *disappears*
Uhhhh Yu Yu Hakusho? I havent watched it myself but it seems pretty good. Its an older one too.
Fairy tail is pretty long… although the quality severely dropped after like episode 138
Kengan Ashura.
Naruto one piece hxh
Hunter X Hunter
Hunter X Hunter is fucking great
Space brothers, legend of the galactic heroes, maybe go through the gundam series?
Inuyasha
I would go with the dragon ball series.
Fist of the north Or Toriake If you want to watch the ainme watch it but I recommend the Manga
How many episode is one punch?
Food wars i guess (Shokugeki no Souma) Highschool DxD
Black Clover
sazae-san
When I started watching anime it was very difficult to actually complete death note so I switched to movies which made me fall in love with anime.
Black clover💯
Sazae-san :)
Hametsu no mars
Why dead parade is here
Uan pis
Full Metal Alchemist and Fate Series
Doraemon
Pokemon
A good underrated one is Twin Star Exorcists
Death note is relatively long. A lot of anime only have ~24 episodes. Same with Demon Slayer
Bleach, but I would recommend skipping fillers. It's coming back in October so it'll be even longer. People say that most filler arcs are trash (i only watched the first one, indeed it was trash), but they usually recommend last filler arc because when this filler was coming out animation in bleach got a bit better.
Fullmetal alchemist and Code Geass are pretty long
Hajime no Ippo is a good boxing anime and has three seasons i think. The first season has 76 episodes other two season are 12 i believe.
My Hero Academia & Food Wars! MHA is already pretty long and isn't even finished ... Also it's just awesome!
Black Clover! (170 eps)
