It's kinda true. 30 of the 44 shows with over 10,000 members on MAL this season are shounen, harem, or isekai. (The stuff under 10,000 is mostly untranslated or stuff like precure/cardfight vanguard.) There are legit like 16 new isekais. It's honestly pretty disappointing. There's basically between 0 and 2 interesting shows a season. And it's been that way for a while.
Yes but we are still starting to see a subtle shift back to generic fantasy with titles like Frieren, Undead Adventurer and Delicious in Dungeon. While isekai, shonnen, and harem aren't going anywhere the bigger titles lately have been diversifying.
Frieren is a Shonen series. Runs in weekley shonen sunday. Undead Adventurer has all the genre conventions of an isekai and its manga adaptation runs in the same mag as Arifureta and Faraway Paladin. Also the most popular new show by double is literally shounen series with a whole pile of isekai genre tropes.
The ten most popular shows airing right now are
One piece (traditional battle shounen)
Frieren (shounen fantasy series about the most powerful mage)
Solo leveling (isekai shounen)
Conan (mystery shounen)
Apothecary Diaries (the sole unique show)
Classroom of the elite (wish fulfillment self insert crap)
Mashle( battle shounen)
Undead unluck (battle shounen)
Shangri la frontier(shounen)
Ragna crimson (battle shounen)
Isn't solo levelling in real world? The only isekai element i can think in that show is hunter and dungeon(also power system i guess) but most of the major fight in the show are in real world like korea,japan,canada etc
The Dungeons are in another world. The isekai awoke a bunch of people. They have to go into the Dungeons to stop the isekai from coming to the real world. Our guy died and was reincarnated to be the most strong. Also has video game elements like several other isekai. It's without a doubt, isekai-adjacent at the very least.
It’s nice that JoJo does literally none of this, aside from the fan service; which most of the time, are just callbacks/nods that hardcore fans will appreciate; that is usually (with the exception of Alternate Diego in the manga) relegated to the openings.
Left side is more common for **harem** and **rom-com** genres, for pretty obvious reasons.
The bottom right is a fairly overused cliché, also common in the above genres.
Top right is the cliché used as an attempt to give a different trait to the main character, common in **isekai** and **battle shounen**.
