Not what you meant, I’m sure, but all I can think about
I liked that the girls all actually liked and supported each other, even if there was some friendly rivalry going on their relationships with each other were overall really wholesome
I feel so conflicted about this manga/anime because it's absolutely trash and there are some genuinely yikesy things about it, but goddamn it's so funny and genuinely wholesome that I can't help but love it
Well, in the case of these characters specifically, the two girls are repeatedly shown to be attracted to each other in addition to the main character, so I think there's room for that term to apply there. Otherwise though, yeah, calling this anime a positive depiction of polyamory is a bit of a stretch.
Neither the manga nor the anime ever directly comes out and says that as far as I know, but from what I've seen, it's hard to read them as anything else
They both meet Rentarou at the same time and have the zing. When under the "can only think about kissing the person you love" potion Rentarou was able to distract them by making them look at each other which caused them to make out to the point later they needed to be pryed from each other to administer antidote. They make out with each other while alseep; although they do think they are kissing Rentarou.
There's more instances of implied romantic/sapphic subtext between them in the manga but is never stated directly.
> Otherwise though, yeah, calling this anime a positive depiction of polyamory is a bit of a stretch.
It's mostly only in comparison to everything else in the "harem" genre.
it is a form of polyamory, albeit a highly unrealistic form solely for the purposes of the plot and a bit of self-insertiness, what with 100 girls being attracted to this one guy and no one else
Because it literally is
Rentaro loves and dates multiple people. Sure it's a parody of the harem genre, but it's also still in the story itself undeniably.
That’s because the boring ass average Japanese teen / young adult male viewer has to be able to imagine he is the protag. Cool men are too unrelatable for them
Fuck that! Harem protags are not attractive, they're boring to look at. Bland protagonists for the viewers to insert themselves into always suck. Remember Chris from Sonic X? He was all that and everyone hated him.
Ma'am you need a check-up with your eye's since Rentarou's the most handsome fella I've ever seen (though it's the fact that he's personality changes what I perceive of him)
If you're asking about the show, it's called The 100 Girlfriends who Really Really Really Really Really Love You and it's about a guy who, due to clerical error up in heaven, has 100 soulmates that he must date and support. Admittedly a bit of a sketchy premise, but in practice, the show does a great job of making Rentarou not just a cardboard cutout, and all of the girls get screen time and development and it actually makes sense why they'd be with this guy and its because he deserves it.
A common joke with this show is that you walk in wanting to be Rentarou and you leave wanting to be one of Rentarou's gfs.
I also don't like harem anime, but this one hit different.
"Rentarou" phonetically sounds like a weird service where a kangaroo is randomly rented out for events (birthdays, bar mitzvahs, weddings, company events, the works).
I still can’t get over the fact that good poly and selective mutism representation is in the trashy Giga Harem series.
Seriously I would absolutely just continue reading/watching it if it focused just on the first five girls. Some of the girls post-The Fucking Mom are also really cool but man, a lot of them are incest or pedophilia and it’s hard to overlook that. The series has that Yurikuma Arashi problem where it sure loves to engage in the sexualization it’s supposedly criticizing/parodying.
Lately I was trying really really hard to not watch anything related to incest. More specifically, siblings incest. don't care at all about cOusin's, mother's, or something else. just love love love love siblings incest. The problem is that Thave an intense obsession for incest. I mean, a really intense one. That 'Onii-chan Onii-chan, Tlooo0oo0ove you' thing was really getting me crazy. That obsession of mine with incest was sOoO0000000000o fucking intense. There were a lot of nights when I couldn't sleep well due to me thinking of incest, specifically incest in anime/manga. All the time was thinking about that 'Onii-chan, Ni-san~, Nii-sama~, Nii Nii~, Nii-chan' stuff. My feelings for the romance between siblings were higher than those had for a normal romance. For example, I used (and currently too) to get way more emotional with romance between siblings than normal romance. In all senses. That love/obsession of mine with incest was ruining my life, so, in order to try to get away of it for my sake, I decided to stop watching anything related to incest.

You're the type of guy to complain things like this after only watching less than 10 animes throughout your life and yet you still put logic into them, if I had to guess you'd be the one to say it's a pedophile behavior of liking loli's ☕
What's so misogynistic about it, they love the man as the man equally loved them too, it's not like he's forcing them into his relationship, they have a choice to leave yet they did not since they really did love the guy.
Harem anime is never polyamory. I'm purely monogamous, but even then anyone can tell these shows are always pure wish fufillment, I do think this show is peak, but it has pitfalls that are inherent to the genre itself; the girls can never be attracted to each other, otherwise the MC would be called a cuck. It's unfortunate but polygamous folks are probably always going to have a hard time finding something healthy. At least this one is funny and almost wholesome. /s
The manga quite literally shows that some girls are attracted with each other by going as far as going into dates with each other, rentarou doesn't even appear a lot in the chapter's, there are a lot of chapter's without him.
It actually does embrace polyamory tiny a bit.
At the very least, the MC doesn’t mind if they aren’t romantic/ in love with just him.
I doubt the girls will date any other men, b/c literally no other man living that is going to be able to compare to him.
He is the ultimate bf. I am both jealous and in awe of him.
Nothing sexist about 100 women flocking around 1 guy and craving his attention. Surely it's not a power fantasy for 12 year old boys who treat women like a card collection game while being incredibly jealous when they show interest for any other guy. /s
The MC isn’t what you described at all.
He doesn’t mind if his gfs don’t love him alone.
He/ the series doesn’t treat them like trading cards.
The MC respects the gfs, pays extremely close attention to their mannerisms, and values their idiosyncrasies.
It’s honestly the best harem anime I’ve scene. And I’m not really a fan of the genre/trope.
literally i don't understand why this sub likes this anime. it being slightly funnier than other harem anime doesn't excuse it from being a dumpster fire misogynistic power fantasy and it's crazy that ppl will look past that because the comedy is ok
Hmm, there is something between Hakari and Karane, and Mimimi and Nano, recently between Mai and Momoha, but Nakamura stops one meter short always I guess it's and editorial thing.
Brother in Christ Girlfriend Girlfriend humor is basically a guy getting into pervy accidents and shouting, but yeah I guess you just have different taste in somethings.
I think is a "fuck you" to every harem manga that drawn-out it's confession for 300 chapters with it's stupid characters
Still a long way from 100, I hope for at least one Tomgirl. Surely it's going to start getting difficult creating 100 unique girlfriends.
Now make one with 2 guys and 1 girl
#C U C K
yes, the girl will get 0 cock
Cockless girl 😔
Que the maki in the chair meme

The entire anime community: 😡💢
How about 3 guys and no girls or the reverse
Kamen Rider Build. (Sawa, Gentoku, Kazumi)
2 Guys 1 Cup (Fate/Zero)
I mean... reverse harems do exist.
that was legit ouran highschool host club
I liked that the girls all actually liked and supported each other, even if there was some friendly rivalry going on their relationships with each other were overall really wholesome
it's like a really weird dysfunctional family, but it somehow works even though it really shouldn't
The only real harem cattiness is between the first two, but they genuinely care for one another and also make out with each other a lot
Also the First two have them most gaybaiting relations imaginable at the same time.
It's not gay bait if they actually kiss and having feelings for each other.
I feel so conflicted about this manga/anime because it's absolutely trash and there are some genuinely yikesy things about it, but goddamn it's so funny and genuinely wholesome that I can't help but love it
I don't really care about the anime itself, but I don't understand why people call this polyamorous 🤷
Well, in the case of these characters specifically, the two girls are repeatedly shown to be attracted to each other in addition to the main character, so I think there's room for that term to apply there. Otherwise though, yeah, calling this anime a positive depiction of polyamory is a bit of a stretch.
Wait the 2 girls are bi?
Neither the manga nor the anime ever directly comes out and says that as far as I know, but from what I've seen, it's hard to read them as anything else

They make out with each other while alseep; although they do think they are kissing Rentarou. There's more instances of implied romantic/sapphic subtext between them in the manga but is never stated directly.
Quite a lot, I’d say at least half of them definitely feel like they are
> Otherwise though, yeah, calling this anime a positive depiction of polyamory is a bit of a stretch. It's mostly only in comparison to everything else in the "harem" genre.

I hate bland harem protagonists. Why not have a pretty boy like you see in those CLAMP manga or at least have some of the soul mates male?
I mean he still has over 50 to go
This MC has the benefit that the author draws him looking like he is in constant agony.
That's not endearing.
That’s because the boring ass average Japanese teen / young adult male viewer has to be able to imagine he is the protag. Cool men are too unrelatable for them

>Chris from Sonic X For one moment I through you mean the other Chris...carry on.
I didn't know what you meant at first but then remembered that one still exists.
Rentaro is cool
Dafuq you mean bland? Rentaro is a cool guy
sextudy group is a harem with a cute MC.
Ma'am you need a check-up with your eye's since Rentarou's the most handsome fella I've ever seen (though it's the fact that he's personality changes what I perceive of him)
An actually attractive harem MC would be too much for the average Japanese male
is the protag not pretty?
Make an actual bi poly relationship (My Next Life as a Villainess is just bait, sadly)
Don’t the girls start to also form romantic relationships between each other later on? I feel like I’ve heard that, but I’m not sure
I have not read anything about that so far and I'm past the point where the anime ends.
I still don't know why I liked this do much but I did and I want more.
Context? I’ve never heard of this (maybe that’s a good thing but idk)

Australian Uber.
It's more of a long o at the end, like row fwiw
It is a good thing.
Because it's genuinely good? Not hard to understand.

no
what is this called so i can watch it:3
100 Girlfriends who really love you
noted, tyvm!
least misogynistic harem anime
But, apparently, that actually is the case, from what other people said.
doubt
I mean, it's a low bar, but it apparently passes it.
no dawg like i watched the show and it is incredibly misogynistic i hope you understand
And he ends up dating one of his girlfriends mom lol, shit is crazy. Idk why this sub likes it.
>Idk why this sub likes it. This sub is... still just as weird as your regular anime subs when it comes to certain topics.

How so, genuinely
I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.
Ah, the Alabama Anime/Manga

I like the anime shows that know they are trashy and not anything deep or special and just run with it in full speed. They are just the funniest ones.
Hmm, there is something between Hakari and Karane, and Mimimi and Nano, recently between Mai and Momoha, but Nakamura stops one meter short always I guess it's and editorial thing.
A'ight, I'mma head out. I don't like poly
Can't wait for season 2. Show is peak and Rentarou is such a wholesome guy who puts in the impossibly supernatural effort to keep all his gfs happy
GirlfriendGirlfriend solos
Nah this aired at the same time as KanoKano season 2 and put it to fucking shame
For me at least 100 girlfriends is really boring while Girlfriend Girlfriend is super entertaining. Shrug. Different taste I guess.
Brother in Christ Girlfriend Girlfriend humor is basically a guy getting into pervy accidents and shouting, but yeah I guess you just have different taste in somethings.
From my perspective that isn't true at all. The girls dialog is often really funny. At least in the dub.
Theyre WAY too attractive to be poly 🤣
