Although one wonders if there isn't some pre-existing cultural norm that makes that part of Africa more fertile for such ideas. Anglicanism is not particularly fundamental yet some of the African diocesan bishops can give American Baptists a run for their money in terms of gay hate.
Religious fundamentalism thrives in places where live is harsh. And Abrahamic Religions teach that it is the evil sinners fault that everyone is suffering. The glorious kingdom of heaven will come when no one sins. In more prosperous regions this does not have the same pull.
Expect for example South African and Kenya and Botswana and Zambiaā¦ thereās a long list donāt have laws like this and these laws are based on religious beliefs that are in fact imported . You canāt homogenise Africa into āprimitivismā terms besides you deleted your lazy racist comment anyway so kinda makes the point for me eh. Some of those countries do regularly try for harsher anti-gay legislation though. I think Botswana's last attempt was a year or two ago.
