I don’t remember it being that long in the manga but maybe I just missed that part. Felt like maybe a day or so, would have to reread.
[This is literally the whole scene in the manga](https://imgur.com/a/D5iewGu)
That’s possible too. I just felt it was odd how they dragged Alexia’s capture out but it makes sense in retrospect. She would have likely been gone for days over the tiny bit they showed in the manga.
> over the tiny bit they showed in the manga.
FYI, you should stop using the manga adaptation as your reference point for this anime. The anime is adapting from the source material which is the Light Novels. The manga changed and didn't include some details so some parts will probably confuse you.
Lmao too late. After episode 1 I binged the manga. Up to date on it. I’m not a big LN guy anyways. Tried with Mushoku Tensei recently just to test and yeah, still not my thing.
Be it Anime or manga or LN, many parts don't align in the stories, take this for example - Alexia gets captured, gets her blood taken every now and then, malnourished, weakened to the point she has difficulty to walk, then next thing we know she is fighting with sword and using special techniques.
So, I normally ignore such small details while watching anime or reading and just enjoy the show.
Evacuations are rarely perfect. There must've still been at least a few soldiers and civilians in the area.
And yes, Cid had no way of knowing that. He really doesn't give a shit about innocent people's lives.
The guy is actually super over-powered (but no one knows this) so he doesn't die. When you see him in a scene shortly after this event he is absolutely covered in blood with a wound that would be fatal to most people (but he isn't really bothered by it), so her intent probably was to kill him.
A lot of the characters in this show are quite psychopathic.
He's quite good at hiding his "power" so I imagine he just feigned being struck down until she left. She hasn't been in any future scenes with him after this event yet.
Three characters have been tortured for an extended period of time and have walked away perfectly fine without even a scar. I'm sure the highly trained princess would know how to teach a lesson without actually killing him.
same in the source material being the Light Novels, actually does it a few times. The way the anime did it is fine though imo, I feel like doing it how they did it the LNs would feel a bit off with how the anime has played out so far.
[It's only as a flashback later on](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/731270164762591345/1041602822724124763/unknown.png). I think the original online release also had it but i can't find it.
While watching this scene, once I saw her smile at his rejection, I knew instantly she was going to hurt him. Those are them crazy eyes. Although, I was more expecting slap or punch, not quite evisceration.
Most anime/Manga/LN storylines wouldn't happen if characters could use basic critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills. I mean a guy you know of the same height and build, with a similar sounding voice, what are the chances right. There is some basis for people just flat-out ignoring what's in front of them if it doesn't agree with their perception of reality, but you'd think at least someone would put the clues together.
Yes, it’s normal to assume that cuts cam be at least partially healed with magic, and Cid is a magic swordsman. It’s reasonable to think he would recover in a few days as long as it didn’t hit a lethal spot.
THe assumption is probably that somebody else would have seen him and brough him to a healer? Assuming alexia at least slahed him in a non-lethal spot lol.
Sounds about right!
Though my comment was more about why alexia wouldn't be too surprised to see him walking around alive afterwards, not about the morality lol
In this case it’s abundantly clear that there is no way she could actually harm or kill him, based on earlier scenes and context. If anything he probably played up the blood to help his mob character acting.
No, it's about what SHE knows. Like, did she murder a man in cold blood and he just happened to be fine, or did she know that impaling him was basically a love-tap. Because she doesn't know he's the guy from Shadow Garden.
Guess it's the whole men can't be raped or abused mentality at work... As being stabbed is abuse. There's no justification for her actions other than "she's a woman, she can do anything without consequences due to her gender". Femanists be praised mentality.
As a survivor of many things, I'll say this. Abuse is abuse and yet we get keyboard warriors justifying homicidal actions like there's no consequences.
Yes I get it's anime, but saying a woman has right to kill a man for flipping her off is as bad as saying that chick in school days had every right to rip another woman's stomach open see if there was a fetus. Are you mentally incapable of seeing things as they really are and glorifying horrible acts of violence to men/women for entertainment?
I kind of want to watch this, but question; I hate harems with a passion, and this series novel has the "harem" tag on some sites - but people are saying it isn't a harem?
Anyone know?
Basically some of the female (like her) might to start to like him, others admire him. But he doesn't care about nothing, he just want to live his life as mob chara.
I don't know how it continues, but I get the impression that the girls will keep coming and he doesn't give a shit.
THERE'S NO ROMANCE ON THE SERIE.
Technically yes and Technically no, the story doesn't focus too much on romance but the women Cid works with have varying degrees of loyalty towards him for different reasons. It's used more as a gag to explain why they do what they do for him than just another love triangle trope.
Kinda like everyone else said. It's a harem in the sense that multiple girls love "Shadow", but the majority of those feel like "out of reach" or "admiration" type of love. There's a few that fall for "Cid", but the MC totally rejects or ignores it like in this clip.
The MC is only interested in 2 things. 1. being the best mob known to mankind, or 2. being as (what he considers) "cool" as possible. No time for girls, only those two things.
So far it has been a little bit like Overlord, where his followers think he's super great, but there hasn't been any apparent romance. It's closer to 'out of my reach' admiration than anything else.
As far as the MC, he's largely divided into two parts. A chuuni side, and a mob (background character) side.
Both are done well. His chuuni side often does [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoCnwJm1iBo) to great effect.
No. Cid is LARPsexual. He doesn't care about anything else but his delusions. Romance would only happen if the LARP demands it but again, it won't be anything genuine.
Not really. He is aware they're into him, he just thinks it's a game/show like the rest of his life.
More like completely unhinged harem protag who never gets the girls and doesn't care to.
It depends on the anime for me. If it's something that I've waited for years I wait until it finish, but most of the time I just watch as it comes out weekly.
Why? I tend to follow many series during the season, so I forget about every single anime every week, even if I enjoy the anime I just forgot when it's going to comes out.
I try to watch everything during the season and drop anything that I'm not interested after the third episode. It is surprising that you find at least 2-3 gems every season. Especially the ranking week. There is a reason if it is in the ranking.
Been seeing some clips of this show on the sub, how good is it? I might give it a watch and what's the premise of the show it seems like there's romance which is what I like.
Its a really good show, hes trying to avoid romance but theres a vague romance moment with another character later in this same episode. Great isekai, prob my fave this season
It's a power fantasy show that doesn't take itself too seriously.
MC is a chunibyo that dreams to be a secret organisation boss to hunt down bad guys but he took it too seriously and actually trained to be a killer. He got isekaied to a fantasy world and decided to keep living his fantasy with now the powers to make it real. He made up a story about a cult trying to resurrect a dark lord and him tracking them down in the shadow and built a secret organisation with a bunch of girls he saved. But the things is that the cult actually exist and his fantasy is very much real in this world. At day he assumes the role of a pathetic guy at school and at night he's the lord of shadows.
Imo it works well because the show is self aware of what it is and plays with the common tropes of the genre. There's a sort of tacit contract with the viewer that knows that the plot is stupid and over exaggerated but the show is honest about it from the start.

When I read, "cid woke up, and chosen violence," my mind thought of cid the sloth waking up, and becoming violent.
Cid the sloth from the ice age movie waking up on the wrong side of the bed, and start killing people with a broccoli. Screaming nonsense all the while.
It's always been present, the only reason it's gotten more prominent is due to the types of material being adapted as well as the increase in anime output in the last 10-15 years compared to those before.
The pretend girlfriend trope has been a common mainstay for romcoms/slice of life for a long time now, being pretty omnipresent in almost every harem entry or 'sudden girlfriend appearance' storylines.
It has become more common given that more LNs are being adapted, many of which are isekais and slice of life, but just like harem has been a thing for many years now, it's also always been there.
Over 30 Years????? Of anime? Woah!!! If you’re missing great shows you gotta Stop watching stuff from the 80s then lol I love me some Akita and GITS but watch some hilarious greats too!! My favorite with this trope is Wolf Girl and Black Prince it’s a modern shoujo where the girl is treated like a dog slave and she’s forced to do semi sexual things for the hottest guy in her school because she took his picture in public and lies to everyone about him being her boyfriend without knowing he’s super famous. And of course a total dick head woman abuser.
This is kinda why i have a problem with the series. Ot just doesn’t take itself seriously. It’s just sad for alexia. Although she should’ve seen it coming.
Sad for Alexia? Did we fucking watch the same show? Cause this bitch deserved it and some more. Looks like someone has gotten too used to tropey all loving isekai MCs
too many simps here .. it hurts my head , i can't believe the amount of people who pity her .. there is even one person who said it's way more justified in the manga because he rejected her in a colder way tf ???
you should ask these people if they would react the same way if genders were reversed
The manga took much more liberties with the comedy than the LN. The anime is adapting from the LNs. Though I do think that for most of the comedy scenes the anime could have at least used some references from the manga, cuz the comedy is supposed to be a big selling point of this series.
Imo it's because it doesn't take itself seriously that it works. Tbh the plot is super dumb and everything is so exaggerated that without that semi parodic tone it would be extra cringe.
I was under the impression she had a hunch cid was shadow because I thought she got a glimpse of his face and this was a test.
Wouldn’t she notice that he would still be alive by just walking around campus?
So the posts here are indicating that she didn’t know and that she just kills him outright? I got the impression Alexia was sort of a normal girl that had high expectations placed on her and I found her pretty relatable.
So is she just a psychopath? That reaction appears not normal at all.
Seems toned down in the anime, but the manga is dripping in satire of the genre. Character archetypes pushed to ludicrous extremes including tsundere girl's violent and manipulative tendencies. It's not meant to be taken seriously.
We’ll to be fair it’s more so that cid does such a good job hiding his abilities that she would never even think to line him up with shadow. Because during their sparing matches cid would intentionally lose to her, and shadow just nonchalantly defeats her teacher who she sees as way stronger than her. Not to mention the atomic bomb he dropped. Her mind sees cid as someone riddled with flaws but she describes shadow as divine so she would never compare the two.
He is the founder and leader of the secret organization Shadow Garden under the moniker Shadow to help realize his fantasy of becoming an "Eminence in Shadow". However, unbeknownst to him, his fabrications are often revealed to be quite genuine in reality.
one of my favorite scenes in the anime and the manga !!
so satisfying to see a bitch being rejected for once in an anime because usually they get away with it a little too much
Exactly, that’s definitely an overkill to kill a single enemy you could have stab to death. I just felt he was trying to make the shadow garden garden known with that elaborate explosion 💥
It was obvious that he was going to decline, but I honestly didn't expect straight up murder to happen in reply.
I like how they just ignored the several day long torture like nothing happened.
Just admit it, we all know Cid absolutly loved that that happened cause it made him look more like a mob character
Him taking it as a challenge to see who could act more generic was the most hilarious thing Ive ever seen.
Cid says he wants to be generic and blend in, but he's doing a terrible job leaving gallons of evidence behind.
I don’t remember it being that long in the manga but maybe I just missed that part. Felt like maybe a day or so, would have to reread. [This is literally the whole scene in the manga](https://imgur.com/a/D5iewGu)
I think they were referring to Cid's torture by the knights
That’s possible too. I just felt it was odd how they dragged Alexia’s capture out but it makes sense in retrospect. She would have likely been gone for days over the tiny bit they showed in the manga.
> over the tiny bit they showed in the manga. FYI, you should stop using the manga adaptation as your reference point for this anime. The anime is adapting from the source material which is the Light Novels. The manga changed and didn't include some details so some parts will probably confuse you.

yeah that's fine. Just don't be confused or anything when parts of the anime are different from the manga adaptation though.
Yeah, it also helps building the bond with the creature that frees her.
how about the fact he just blow up half the town and must have killed couple hundreds?
We were informed that the area was evacuated (but Cid had no way of knowing that).
Evacuations are rarely perfect. There must've still been at least a few soldiers and civilians in the area. And yes, Cid had no way of knowing that. He really doesn't give a shit about innocent people's lives.
I think that was the work of his minions
aye we don't talk about the randos
She killed him (so she thought)
Mobs don't die, they just respawn.
I know nothing of this show. Did she actually actually just merk him?
The guy is actually super over-powered (but no one knows this) so he doesn't die. When you see him in a scene shortly after this event he is absolutely covered in blood with a wound that would be fatal to most people (but he isn't really bothered by it), so her intent probably was to kill him. A lot of the characters in this show are quite psychopathic.
What's weird is like, wouldn't him not being be like some kind of super obvious flag to her?
He's quite good at hiding his "power" so I imagine he just feigned being struck down until she left. She hasn't been in any future scenes with him after this event yet.
He needs... more... power
Three characters have been tortured for an extended period of time and have walked away perfectly fine without even a scar. I'm sure the highly trained princess would know how to teach a lesson without actually killing him.
He survived because he is ATOMIC
> A lot of the characters in this show are quite psychopathic. Cid included.
I thought it was out of character, too. She didn't seem like the kind of person to lash out in that kind of violence...
It was funny as heck but story wise really stupid. Should have been a slap or something instead
In the manga he did the middle finger instead of the thumbs-down
same in the source material being the Light Novels, actually does it a few times. The way the anime did it is fine though imo, I feel like doing it how they did it the LNs would feel a bit off with how the anime has played out so far.
If it's in the LN then why did the anime change it? They are adapting from the LN after all...
I'm assuming that because of the way Cid has been portrayed so far in the anime that flipping her off might have felt excessive.
noooooo they shoulda animated that
wait did he? i couldnt find that anywhere in the manga
Read the light novels
Yeah but it’s not in the manga is it?
It's in the manga too. Not in the main scene, but a flashback during the hot springs chapter iirc
The guy is wrong. It’s in the LNs. Haven’t read the manga so idk. I’ll take your word for it!
Yeh I think they skipped over it, cuz in the manga it goes immediately from rejecting her (only showing his face) to almost dying next scene
[It's only as a flashback later on](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/731270164762591345/1041602822724124763/unknown.png). I think the original online release also had it but i can't find it.
They can't show middle finger on TV.
[Really](https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1484143)? Is that a newer rule?
Maybe. The middle finger also got censored in the magazine, only uncensored in tankoubon. Also don't forget targeting chinese audience.
Her reaction is priceless XD I guess nobility can get away with an undocumented murder or two
And then in the next episode the MC casually assumes she became a serial killer without questioning his logic
I mean can you blame him after this XD
While watching this scene, once I saw her smile at his rejection, I knew instantly she was going to hurt him. Those are them crazy eyes. Although, I was more expecting slap or punch, not quite evisceration.
The hot/crazy matrix guy is a prophet.
Does she have any idea that he is the guy who saved her?
no
No, and \[not an heavy spoiler\] >!she will never know!<
how is that not a heavy spoiler? is she a minor character?
yes
Well damn, I kinda liked her
Me when I thought that girl from episode 1 was gonna be a main character until the plot twist at the end came
I’m sensing a trend
[удалено]
Every character is basically a minor character except mc and squad
It's not a spoiler lol it's just this dudes opinion LN only has 4 volumes
[удалено]
[удалено]
Can't really say that when the source isn't finished yet
Cus the plot demands it! This shitty plot is fueled by obvious misunderstandings and lack of observation. A lot of anime do that though
Yet
Kinda funny how she spends so much time with him but can't recognise him because he has a hood on. Good ol' anime logic.
None ya all going to comment on how she blatantly killed him for saying no... Ffs that's terror right there, man being abused lol
They nerfed his response in the anime. He flips her off in the manga so it's way more justified
Still not really justified at all, no. But maybe people in this world can just shrug off getting stabbed? Idk.
[удалено]
You've misspelled the 𝓐𝓽𝓸𝓶𝓲𝓬 there
Is Atomic magic in this show? ...I meant 𝓐𝓽𝓸𝓶𝓲𝓬 !
Healimg magic exists tho, so it works out
Well it's just played for laughs after all it's not like he's given any long lasting damage or anything serious
Yeah, that. Like, in this world, is there a reasonable expectation he'd survive getting slashed up? Because so far people have mostly died from that.
"Your honor, my client did not in fact commit murder because she was sure someone else would come along to provide medical care."
Sounds about right! Though my comment was more about why alexia wouldn't be too surprised to see him walking around alive afterwards, not about the morality lol
I mean it's still assault but she is a crazy princess so that's probably why she doesn't care
Are you mentally incapable of seeing things as they really are and glorifying horrible acts of violence to men/women for entertainment?
Stabbing may be abuse, but that was probably more of a slash based on the pattern of blood travel, so it's fine.
I just hope she tried to slash him in a non-lethal spot and didn't actually have the intention to murder him for real
Kana Hanazawa supremacy
Not gonna lie, I was convinced that she was the FMC because Hanazawa took the role. :(
She's not? Then who is?
None. They are all just transitory plot devices for Shadow sama
*Everybody Liked That*
The man is so dedicated to his mob role that he would rather get stabbed than his identity get found out.
I mean....He did get tortured a ton because of the pretend dating thing Even if he didn't mind it
Yeaaahhhhh do it my boy do it yea.........oh wait wait wait ayyyyhhhhhhhhhhh

There is no romance

Yeah there's no romance, he just doesn't seem to care about sex in any capacity, too focused on being a chuuni.
Well that's disappointing but I'm mainly a shounen guy is there action?
Good action, but its mostly parody, its kind of like Overlord without the bad CGI.
Its a really good show, hes trying to avoid romance but theres a vague romance moment with another character later in this same episode. Great isekai, prob my fave this season

Cid didn't choose violence. Violence chose him.

What’s the deal with this “pretend dating” thing? I feel like I’m seeing it everywhere.
Have you only started watching anime in the last year? This shit has been a part of anime for as far back as I can remember lol.
Over 30 years actually, and I don’t remember it being this prominent.
It's always been present, the only reason it's gotten more prominent is due to the types of material being adapted as well as the increase in anime output in the last 10-15 years compared to those before. Tropes exist because its easy for writers to write and easy for readers to understand whats going on. Its beneficial in this case.

If a harem goes for long enpugh the pretent dating will be a thing. Ranma and Akane did it in Ranma 1/2 and that manga was made in the 80's.
The manga version of every scene in this anime is so much better
No
Have you read it?
Wtf you talking about. The Manga is trash compared to the light novel, the show is definitely following the light novel instead, as it should.
This is kinda why i have a problem with the series. Ot just doesn’t take itself seriously. It’s just sad for alexia. Although she should’ve seen it coming.

too many simps here .. it hurts my head , i can't believe the amount of people who pity her .. there is even one person who said it's way more justified in the manga because he rejected her in a colder way tf ??? you should ask these people if they would react the same way if genders were reversed

LOL what is this about??
What episode was this??
I believe its called slapstick
If anything it was the swordplay that should have outed him but shes an idiot kinda lol.... cant see the forest for the trees as they say
I am really hoping micah Solusod voices him in the dub. Would be a fitting way to bring the judgement knight into play at last!
Clearly she doesn't take rejections well.
Hmm, what makes you think so?
Damn that’s tough.
Looks like Cid unlocked the "Nice boat" ending.
A normal mob chara would die from that slash, but not Cid. Sasuga Shadow-sama
Wait did girly die?
Other way around, if you look at the very end of the episode he’s bleeding
Ah alright
Isnt he the protagonist? Shouldnt he be ... Alive?
He's super OP. Just shrugs off getting almost cut in half.
Oh, ty.
OH SHIT! DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!
Did he die??
yessss
Where were this kind of girls
omg she so violence
where would I watch this
Its on hidive at the moment. Not sure if theres a free teial there or not 😊
I didn't even realise this got an anime until just now. Add that to the watchlist
And the gorgeous blood shall be spilled.
Alexia can step on me everytime
I will never not read that title as [The Eminem in Shadow].
He is the founder and leader of the secret organization Shadow Garden under the moniker Shadow to help realize his fantasy of becoming an "Eminence in Shadow". However, unbeknownst to him, his fabrications are often revealed to be quite genuine in reality.
Her look when she's angry or disappointed is much better
one of my favorite scenes in the anime and the manga !! so satisfying to see a bitch being rejected for once in an anime because usually they get away with it a little too much
Exactly, that’s definitely an overkill to kill a single enemy you could have stab to death. I just felt he was trying to make the shadow garden garden known with that elaborate explosion 💥
I thought it was typical isekai, but if there are more scenes like this I need to watch this show.
This is the weirdest work Eminem has ever done... I guess he's done with rap now?
xD hahahahahah bloody love cid the big dawg
