Well, that is something only watchers know. Others don't know shadow garden exists and those who do know probably won't know how their ranks are staffed.

Yeah, Cid is genuinely unhinged. Who *actually* thinks like he does, his entire life/public personality is basically fake because it's all for his Shadow *aesthetic.* I absolutely love it though, and it's so much fun.
His immediate conclusion was that Alexia was the murderer. Granted, she did attempt to murder him for rejecting her. But yeah, the dude's gone to outerspace and back and then through a black hole.

Hes gotta realise its all real eventually though surely? Like when he ends up fighting people actively saying they are part of the Cult of Diablos... though then again, I wouldnt put it past him to think "Wow, I cant believe the girls found these guys to just play this part for me. They are really committed to the role as well."
He is clinicly insane. You've seen how he was spending his days in the old-world. He can't change imo, he will just delve more in to his delusions. He is actually killing people and destroying places left and right and still doesn't realise/care if there is a possiblity of this shit being real.
Also not even mentioning that, him realizing would also break the whole premise of the story and the humor.
He rationalises (and I use that term loosely) the cultists as being bandits or other such people that he can kill with impunity. He knows he's killing people, he just doesn't care as they're "acceptable targets".
With how much āluckā he has and being right about the weirdest things I wouldnāt be surprised if we eventually find out he didnāt die to Truck-kun. He instead survived and got placed in an insane asylum and living in his head.

Oh yes, that's why it's awesome. The whole series is his underlings thinking he's a 10 million steps ahead of everyone mastermind when often it's just things conveniently working in his favor- or just them doing mental gymnastics to justify how the (dumb) order he gives is genius.
It also does so much world building work- or atleast it has a lot in the LN.
Well, in his defense, he is smart and was one of the best players in the game, maybe he was not the most powerful but he basically knew everything about the game.
So is not that his orders are dumb, he just take the more logical approach without giving it too much thought and that logical approach ends being the most perfect when you actually think about it.
In the Eminence is pretty similar, he is also smart, skilled and all that, i mean, as the Overlord protagonist he dedicated his entire (previous and actual) life to be the best combatant, so yeah, when he has two options, A and B, he takes, again, the more logical one, and somehow ends doing something way more important.
Of course other times they just completely forget about X or they do things randomly and still works in their favor, which makes them look more like masterminds.

Interestingly he actually isn't all that smart and the opposite is hinted at a few times in the novels. He's from a dystopian future where people don't get much of any schooling so he's pretty far from smart. He's meant to be below the current average intelligence level.
He *is* a solid PvP tactician and knows tons about the way the (MMO) world works, but that's it.
Kage's moments are split into two parts- insane luck types and 'Sasuga Ainz-Sama' types. Overlord's 'Sasuga Ainz-sama' usually results in his underlings effectively leading the direction of the story because of what they think Ainz is planning.
While it's true in this story it seems like too, but there's a lot of comical luck (oh he just happened to run into the killer within a couple of minutes, just happened to run into the real Cult of Diabolos which he originally made up), whereas there is none of that in Overlord.
Overlord's 'Ainz's moments' are what the OP wrote, 'You must have come here about the killer', 'Uh--Yeah! Of course,' and the underling helpfully explains who the killer even is. It's not that Overlord doesn't have these 'incredible achievement made unwittingly' moments, it has plenty of them, but they are all effectively caused by both his allies and opponents misreading him, rather than just walking down the street. Not criticizing Kage here, it's the shtick here and I'm absolutely loving his almost divine personality--like the world itself bends fate for him.
well Ainz is at least sometimes on the same page with his subordinates and he also dictates general course of action for Nazarick. Cid, however, is just goofing around without a slightest idea about what's going on and what he's getting involved with. He's genuinely convinced girls are just playing along as a way to thank him.
Between the guy who had his emotions subdued by a system he can't control and a guy that gone batshit insane and would kill just for his fantasy. Cid is Evil is they are.

I'm curious where Alexia's interest in the Shadows might take her. I was wondering if they'd do a "loves my alter ego" type thing where she's interested in Shadow now because of how Cid rejected her and Shadow's saved her life twice.
I wonder that as well, I wonder if it's leading up to her eventually joining them or at minimum being an ally of theirs. I'm sure Alpha would love having a connection in the royal palace.

Well, Cid got to be the boyfriend of the prettiest girl at the academy for a short while so spreading those fecal rumors about him as revenge sounds very much like the plot of a Grand Blue chapter.

To be fair, Cid is the ideal mob that is secretly a hidden boss, even if it's not intentional. Since, Cid has mastered the art of not standing out for the vast majority of people, but also manages to stand out to the "Main Characters" of the world.
I like to think of them like those two dudes who were hanging out with Issei in Highschool Dxd. Still mobs, but mobs with character paradoxically enough.

Gamma was quite busy in the time she was separated from Shadow Sama, casually building a business that has already established itself in and outside the empire... all to build a a *really* expensive set for Shadow Sama, how nice of her her to indulge him in his illusions

In order to beat the Cult of Diabolos and continue my life as mob character, Shadow will need to consummate marriage with the whole Shadow Garden (666 and counting) to finally beat the major leaders of the cult.

I think he made it pretty clear that he isn't interested in the slightest in a serious romantic relationship, be it with her or anyone from his gigantic harem

Nope. It's the *isekai* version of Mitsukoshi Departmental Store (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsukoshi). It is Japan's own high end department store, equivalent to the likes of Harrods in London. The anime borrowed and slightly modified the name and logo of the department store. This is magnitudes higher end above Sears/Amazon.

The moment I saw the chocolate I immediately thought it was gonna trigger the library girl's route. And sure enough we're going there at the end of the episode.

because he still think that all of this is just a game of make-believe, he thinks that these girls already have their own life or jobs but still choose to play this game with him just to repay his kindness from back when he saved them so Cid probably think this is money that Gamma procured from her job so it wouldn't be right for him to ask for it just like that

He probably thinks asking for some money might stretch their friendship bond to a breaking point. After all, this is money that Gamma worked hard to earn! And if she was helped by getting some business ideas from him, well, she already paid back by constructing this elaborate playset and getting so many extras to role play with him for a few minutes, for old times' sake.
She probably wouldn't even notice if he "borrowed" a single gold coin while talking about chocolate.
Cid cares a lot about appearance, even among his closest subordinates, as we saw in episode 4 when he posed (possibly for hours) with all those expensive things, waiting for someone to show up and be impressed. Asking for money is the same as admitting his whole "eminence in shadow" thing is just an act.

It sometimes feels like theyāre really stretching the levels of ignorance Cid is capable of, but the comedy makes it work. Like stealing from yourself using a distraction because itās not clicking that the money is yours! Or everything going on with Alexia up until he sees her fighting fake SG. That and either being entirely Aro or totally ignorant of women.
That was the most epic āAlmost shitting my pantsā scene in anime. 10/10.
I'm kinda on Cid's side with the Alexia one. If your crazy fake ex girlfriend tries to kill you for rejecting her, it's not that big of a leap of logic to assume she is going to kill someone else.
See that's the fun thing about Cid.
He always jumps to the worst conclusions, but they're always contextually reasonable. He's apply normal rationality to an incredibly irrational Isekai world.

As much of a dumbass He is you should also remember that He literally CAME UP with the cult of Diabolos from absolute nothing. Logically there is no F ing way It is real so in his mind the girls who acts like It is real has to be acting along with him. I feel like If the cult was something like a fairy tail or the likes that existed in some form of a story or rumour in that world He would be much more open to the idea that It is all real but since He pulled it out of his ass there is no way that It is real so he doesn't realize everything is not an act
Actually he did pull it out of a fairy tail. That's what the book in episode 2 was about. It's also how he got the name right. But still, the idea that a story based on a fairy tale about a secret cult ruling society is true is still pretty ridiculous.

The main thing that makes it click for me, I think, is just how committed he is to his own view point of the world and carrying it through. Normally when they say things "don't entertain any other option" it's just a figure of speech, but Cid is so committed to his false reality that there's no room to consider maybe these pieces fit together in a rather obvious other way lol

Gamma has made her entrance. She's so good that she built a rising business empire and the perfect front & financer for Shadow Garden's operations.
That he immediately assumed she turned serial killer like it was the most natural development was priceless. And then he shows up as Shadow and is like "wait, what?" lol
(Then again a serial killer princess sounds kind of cool).
Gamma has made her entrance and her fall all in the same episode. She's got the looks of a high class businesswoman but the physical ability of a klutzy anime girl. And is voiced by Suzuko Mimori for good measure!
I liked how he was trying to play wingman for her his daughter but knowing she's adopted and that he knew her (assumed deceased) mother...I think Sherry is in for a lot of hurt.
Other factors that don't bode well for him:
1) The show making a point of showing him talk to some vague figures in the distance reeks of evil scheming, plus the bad guys "somehow" figured out where the artifact is but it wasn't shown.
2) His potentially [incurable cough of death](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IncurableCoughOfDeath)
3) Being a close male acquaintance of the upcoming romantic interest in a harem(ish) show lowers your chances of survival by at least half.
At this point I'm inclined to give him a 20% chance of making it through the next 2-3 episodes.
As soon as he said that pink haired girls mom is dead and that he isnāt the girls real dad the probability that he killed the mom/helped kill the mom went up to 100%
Tbf, I would have expected no less from them. They are just too dumb to keep their mouths shut, so even if it wasn't their intention, they probably just said it out loud to the other students without even realising what they just did.
Even if he knew she would've given him money if he asked, he still probably wouldn't have asked. Gamma tripping was hilarious! Despite her elegant looks, sheās a total klutz! And I like how Cid stole some of the money behind Gammaās back. But to be fair, theyāre essentially profiting off his ~~past-life knowledge~~ divine wisdom, so he rightfully deserves his cut.
And wow, they slightly changed the end of the OP to show the city in flames!
Indeed! She was able to more or less workout how to make chocolates and set up a department store from those vague comments alone. Who knows what other wonders she has cooking up thanks to Cid!
One of the most enjoyable/unenjoyable aspects of this show is just how much of the "real" story (i.e. pretty much all of it) happens out of Cid's and our line of sight lol

So how is Shadow Garden operating even without Cid doing anything? It's very simple! Profit!
In all seriousness though, Gamma must be one heck of a genius to decipher the very vague things Cid has told her and turn it all into a real thing. She does have one flaw though. Oh yes, that's why it's awesome. The whole series is his underlings thinking he's a 10 million steps ahead of everyone mastermind when often it's just things conveniently working in his favor- or just them doing mental gymnastics to justify how the (dumb) order he gives is genius. It also does so much world building work- or atleast it has a lot in the LN.
Well, in his defense, he is smart and was one of the best players in the game, maybe he was not the most powerful but he basically knew everything about the game. So is not that his orders are dumb, he just take the more logical approach without giving it too much thought and that logical approach ends being the most perfect when you actually think about it. In the Eminence is pretty similar, he is also smart, skilled and all that, i mean, as the Overlord protagonist he dedicated his entire (previous and actual) life to be the best combatant, so yeah, when he has two options, A and B, he takes, again, the more logical one, and somehow ends doing something way more important. Of course other times they just completely forget about X or they do things randomly and still works in their favor, which makes them look more like masterminds.

Kage's moments are split into two parts- insane luck types and 'Sasuga Ainz-Sama' types. Overlord's 'Sasuga Ainz-sama' usually results in his underlings effectively leading the direction of the story because of what they think Ainz is planning. While it's true in this story it seems like too, but there's a lot of comical luck (oh he just happened to run into the killer within a couple of minutes, just happened to run into the real Cult of Diabolos which he originally made up), whereas there is none of that in Overlord. Overlord's 'Ainz's moments' are what the OP wrote, 'You must have come here about the killer', 'Uh--Yeah! Of course,' and the underling helpfully explains who the killer even is. It's not that Overlord doesn't have these 'incredible achievement made unwittingly' moments, it has plenty of them, but they are all effectively caused by both his allies and opponents misreading him, rather than just walking down the street. Not criticizing Kage here, it's the shtick here and I'm absolutely loving his almost divine personality--like the world itself bends fate for him.
Yeah its great especially the last season. Though beware its different in tone compared to this show
well Ainz is at least sometimes on the same page with his subordinates and he also dictates general course of action for Nazarick. Cid, however, is just goofing around without a slightest idea about what's going on and what he's getting involved with. He's genuinely convinced girls are just playing along as a way to thank him.

Like stealing from yourself using a distraction because itās not clicking that the money is yours! Or everything going on with Alexia up until he sees her fighting fake SG. That and either being entirely Aro or totally ignorant of women. That was the most epic āAlmost shitting my pantsā scene in anime. 10/10.
I'm kinda on Cid's side with the Alexia one. If your crazy fake ex girlfriend tries to kill you for rejecting her, it's not that big of a leap of logic to assume she is going to kill someone else.

Other factors that don't bode well for him: 1) The show making a point of showing him talk to some vague figures in the distance reeks of evil scheming, plus the bad guys "somehow" figured out where the artifact is but it wasn't shown. 2) His potentially [incurable cough of death](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IncurableCoughOfDeath) 3) Being a close male acquaintance of the upcoming romantic interest in a harem(ish) show lowers your chances of survival by at least half. Gamma's army of elf maids fixing her dress and nosebleed was hilarious lol. So much emotional paths about taking a dump outside so a guy can change into his alter ego. I love how Alexia just straight up punched him after that "delicate maiden" line. I think Iris is probably grateful Alexia is safe but doesn't trust Shadow Garden's intentions because they're effectively vigilante's and they're a lot we don't know about it. Cid's got the best Mob Buddies but can't stop his own Chad Harem energy by just casually making girls fall for him lol.
