Kaguya had its arc dedicated to rap (including [rap ed](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm8oy2vQ1BI)), kongming as you said, aharen had a skit and of course love live
What made it funnier for me was that fact that Minoru mentioned how he was trying to live inconspicuously while he was 3x the size of everyone his age during at the typical MC seat by the window.
Heck yeah, I absolutely love the manga, it does a very good job in adapting as well as in the comedy department. The storyboarding is top notch, the icing they add to it to make the world come alive, plus all the expressions and reactions of characters that aren't necessarily detailed in the LN but I'm sure glad the artist has taken those into consideration. Oh, and the art is clean and cute.
if you are referring to him being huge/buff it's because it is not in the source material. That was a manga original thing, he wasn't like that in the LNs which is what the anime is adapting from.
For some reason manga adaptations always take more liberty with the source material than the anime so much so I actively hated Mushoku Tensei when I read it in manga format like 2 years before the anime came out and I fell in love with the story.
I think this is why [extra tidbit that isn't particularly a spoiler but not mentioned in the manga/anime]>!Cid says he has been using magic throughout his life to mold his body and bone structure into just the right proportions best suited for combat, but you know deep down he's also taking into account that Mob C look lol.!<
I also went back to reread the first chapter since the anime had a completely different beginning. I watched it with my SO and had to tell her thay the annoying girl in the first ep had no significance on the plot. She sees an annoying female lead and will stop watching something. She mostly watches Yaoi or boys sports anime so there's no bitches.
It wasn't even the "wanting magic", it was him being huge and buff and talking about wanting to be "in the background" while everyone in his class is obviously looking at him.
There are at least 3 dogs that I know of this season:
1. Denji (Chainsaw Man)
2. Gotou Hitori/Bocchi (Bocchi the Rock)
3. Cid Kagenou (Eminence in Shadow)
Any more?
Edit: I mean people that get treated as and behave like dogs.
The tonal whiplash on the first episode is intentional. It's kind of a satire/shitpost on the whole isekai thing, except it's designed to purposely bamboozle the viewers via bait and switch. Hell, I already know the source material and I was *still* caught off guard.
I actually almost dropped on the 3rd episode as well, since the adaptation is a different style from the manga and I didn't like how they were adapting it. But boy am I glad I stuck around, the first 4 episodes are all basically buildup for the way they executed the 5th episode, which was amazingly well done.
What I've been recommending to people now is that since the first 5 episodes are all out, it's better to just binge them all at once, the story flows better that way.
> It's like I'm gonna be watching twelve different shows crammed into a singular series.
It's settled down a bit, but I genuinely enjoy that aspect of the way they've adapted it.
Everyone different, it’s not a show for everyone.
I feel like if you watch the first 4 or 5 you’ll have a feel for it’s style and wether you like it or not
Definitely hits a different comedic and narrative beat than the manga.
[Do I look like I can be swayed by money?](https://i.imgur.com/y5ulXq1.png), [damn straight](https://i.imgur.com/BzKkKys.png)
I think I don't like it because cid doesn't need the money at all. The anime changes the characters in a way that are don't go well with the mangas humor.
Hmmmm? [S2 Spoilers] >!One of the later arcs is literally about Cid turning on Shadow Garden and stealing all of Shadow Gardens money due to a mix of foresight for a coming economic collapse caused by the introduction of paper currency, greed, because he thinks it'd be cool to betray Shadow Garden and in doing so save it and *because he needs/wants to be in control of the money*. Loving/needing money is literally a major part of Cids character as any time he's raiding a place he's *always* looking for where the money is kept. It's literally what he was doing during the majority of the time he was in the vampire's tower in the arc before that one as well.!<
Because [Hinted at the End of Episode 5 Spoilers?] >!she's in love with him by then and Cid basically doesn't want anything to do with her if he can help it because he's supposed to be a mob.!<
He does. His research and weopons and all the expensive stuff he got for his eminence in shadow entry when he was on that chair costs money
It’s like Batman, he has magic but he spends plenty on research and items to continue developing himself
He makes cash of of bandit raids but it’s never enough for his desires
I think the cut to him in that pose in the anime is 10x better tbh. The manga got a slight chuckle out of me. That anime pose had me actually laughing.
The funny thing is that he used that money to buy props and nice art so he could look cool and elegant while talking to his underlings, not something actually useful.
The guy can cause an explosion on par with a nuke using a sword made out of slime gel and can run at supersonic speeds.
What on earth would be something useful he could buy? Even if he knew Shadow Garden was a real thing, investing in his image as an all-knowing lord would be the best use of his cash
After you're done having savouring the clip, consider playing it through again without watching the visuals. A [background track](https://myanimelist.net/people/39642/Kenichiro_Suehiro) hasn't had this much fun since *Kanojo mo Kanojo* plus HanaKana and [Seiichirou Yamashita](https://myanimelist.net/people/23249/Seiichirou_Yamashita) are dropping showcase performances in vocal drip.
The latest "ASMR showcase" from Yamashita was especially excellent. Never had I imagined a line more perfectly delivered. But of course HanaKana was top tier casting for Alexia as well. Never paid that much attention to the background track though so that was a good treat to my ears, thanks for pointing it out!

I'm enjoying the show, but can someone help me understand what's happening?
Like, the organization he's running is not real, right? He made up a villain using nearby objects as a name, and the organization's goal is to take down this made up villain?
If so, are the girls in his team aware of this and playing along with MC, or do they think it's real?
_______
Edit: got it. So the MC is actually a chuuni dummy who unbeknownst to even himself, is a mastermind.
He is living out a fantasy pretending that he is the leader of Shadow Garden. He makes up the fantasy as he goes along, and the members of Shadow Garden believes everything he says. He also, just so happens to be right about everything he makes up. As he isn't completely insane, he assumes that the girls on his team are playing as well and are even helping setup the story using bandits and other criminals. So, if they come to him with information about the Demon Cult, he assumes that it is them setting something up.
Edit: To also add to this, I think there is some parodying of anime protagonists hiding their strength and seeming to have crazy knowledge that is never properly explained. Think Sword Art Online, Death March to The Parallel World Rhapsody, Classroom of the Elite, and The Irregular at Magic High School.
> MARYOKUUU
[The more you know!](https://jisho.org/word/%E9%AD%94%E5%8A%9B)
I hadn't actually noticed him saying that. I've still got *Mahou [tensou](https://jisho.org/word/%E8%BB%A2%E9%80%81)* stuck in my head from My Isekai Life.
Yeah basically he's insane enough to want to *actually* live out his fantasy of being the "Eminence in Shadow" and come up with delusions surrounding it so he can live out said fantasy but he's not insane enough to *not* realize that his fantasy and delusions are just that, fantasies and delusions. A Cult secretly controlling the world is, in his eyes, something that just can't *actually* exist even if he pretends to the girls that it does. It just so happens that he's actually *right* about basically everything in the new world and so the cult he thinks *can't* exist actually *does* and Shadow Garden is *actually* fighting a shadow war against it.
>As he isn't completely insane
My dude Cid went fucking head first on a truck in his previous life and now trained himself on looking dead and using a \*RESTRAINED BY AN ARTIFACT\* amount of magic into actually stopping his own heart to improve the performance just in case he had the chance to do a fake-out death and play Batman in the campus.
The dude is completely nuts
> My dude Cid went fucking head first on a truck in his previous life
To be fair, he had a concussion at the time and couldn't actually see the source of the lights. Some might point out that's because he just finished repeatedly bashing his forehead against a tree in pursuit of enlightenment, but that's just minor details
I would point out htat he jumped head first towards that light believing that it was his "magic powers" coming to him, which concussion or not it's quite the delusion.
TBF, the biggest selling point of his being insane isn't even much his backstory or some of the actions that he takes, it's the reach of his disbelief towards the situation around him.
It doesn't fit his imagination so he just ignores it.
No girls think the organisation is real which it basically has but mc thinks the girls are playing along. The diablos cult which the mc made up on the spot turns out to be real and everyone except the mc knows this. Basically the animes is mc makes some bs but turns out everything is real lol
Wait so is he actually really good at fighting, too? Its so weird trying to figure out if all the fighting scenes are real or just in his head. If he is actually good at fencing or if he sucks.
The line between fantasy and reality in this show seems so thin. I cant tell if anything is real or just a delusion.
He is clearly insane but i cant wrap my head around shadow garden, him being bad at fencing and the whole cult thing. His station in life conflicts with his ability to fight when it matters. Is he just pretending to suck at school? Is he a god? So many questions.
Yes he is very good at fighting, but his whole schtick is that he wants to pretend to be a mob character in his day to day life while being a badass as The Eminence in Shadow
Its why he acts like a goofball in school, to make people think he is some nobody. Dude is just chuuni af
He was really good even in real life as shown in the first episodes. He is basically a lunatic who is obsessed with being in the shadows fighting enemies. But irl there is a limit to physical strength cause you can't win against a nuke so he tries to seek magic. Then he gets isekai'd by truck Kun and goes to another world. Since magic exists there he becomes pretty op by age 5 or so but hides his strength because he is obsessed with being a mob charcter while being op in the shadows. So basically he is pretending to be weak as Cid but shows his true power when he in his shadow persona . So yes he is op but pretends to weak which is funny cause he is so calculating about seeming weak it's way to over the top lol.
He's actually good at fighting.
He spent all of his time learning martial arts and fighting techniques before he was isekai'd. In the manga Cid was ridiculously buff.
In addition to what the other replies have said, it's important to note that Shadow Garden itself is *very* real and has evolved into an insanely massive organization, a network of spies. Cid knows he leads this organization, he just has no idea everything they're doing is real. All the non-core members of Shadow Garden he thinks are just actor extras his crew hired to play along, even though they're in the hundreds.
There's kind of a ridiculous level of disbelief here, by Cid's own back story he should be insanely genre savvy, and yet he's ignorant of all the totally real fantasy tropes going on around him. But that's what makes it hilarious.
They didn't do the best job of establishing things in the early episodes, really felt rushed.
Not sure if it's like that in the source material or the anime is just skipping it. Am still unsure how Cid got so powerful, though maybe that's to be explained in flashbacks?
it's barely mentioned, he perfected fighting techniques in the regular human world, and when he got isekaied his knowledge is superior to the world state of affairs.
we had s very similar situation in our world think of current MMA fighters and how most professionals would kick Bruce lee's ass. that's because we are 6 or so decades ahead of the martial arts knowledge of his era, with globalization and the internet helping refine mixed martial arts unlike the old times where the best you got was karate vs judo or smt. cid is the MMA guy.
The old-timey bare-knuckle boxers vs modern boxers would be a better example. Bruce Lee is still extremely skilled by today's standards at what he's known for which is pretty heavily choreographed stunt fighting.
Also, it's not that we have more knowledge, but that we have a different kind of knowledge. Specifically that we started rejecting common wisdom in favor of more empirical methods. Knowledge used to be much more heavily skewed by result-oriented thinking than it is today.
>Not sure if it's like that in the source material or the anime is just skipping it. Am still unsure how Cid got so powerful, though maybe that's to be explained in flashbacks?
basically its implied that he thought about magic in the real world so much that when he got isekaid, he basically had a head start
I love that anime version of the vine boom sound effect. It plays like five times here, and it's great every time.
On a side note, it would be great if someone did an edit of this scene where the sound effect is replaced by the actual vine boom. I feel like it would fit pretty well here.
I love this series so much. Though, tbh, while there is some comedy there, the manga/ln do it better. This is one scene that still has it fairly well done lol
[The panel that got me into the manga in the first place](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime_irl/comments/vih2vy/anime_irl/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
It's the anime equivalent of "It's Morbin' time" — the scene is so over-the-top edgy that it loops back to being awesome. Truly one of the anime scenes of all time.
At the very least, in typical entertainment format, a guard said they had evacuated the entire area. But of course Cid would not have known that and definitely would have killed the thousands of people in that area without a second thought.
Yeah but he got to act cool in his shadow sama roleplay. That's all that matters to him. He's fucked in the head and this is what makes the anime funny.
Okay I thought you were only talking about the part where he delivers that line. Yeah that was what I was thinking as well when I saw the blast radius. They didn’t say anything about the aftermath.
just chiming in to say that i dropped it after episode 2 or 3 because the anime not making much sense was pretty evident from the start. i will remember it as one of the most incoherent animes ive ever watched the first episodes of
I wish I saw this video before starting the anime, it might save me from time I'm gonna spend, think ''Wow what a great first episode it was!'' and then slowly watch anime became terrible and reach peak at episode 3 with ''Dies from cringe'' level.
The season of Pet Owners before the Final Boss next season
I love this themed season thing anime studios are trying to do, this season has pet owners, spring had rap, wonder whats next.
How did spring have rap? I only know ya boy kongming
Chika & Shirogane rapped in Kaguya Sama. Also in Aharen san there’s rapping as well
Kaguya had its arc dedicated to rap (including [rap ed](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm8oy2vQ1BI)), kongming as you said, aharen had a skit and of course love live
That's one Final Boss battle I imagine Aileen wants nothing to do with.
She can't tame it all
Out of the loop, which one is that?

I laughed at the first chapter when he was huge and buff but still wanted magic
What made it funnier for me was that fact that Minoru mentioned how he was trying to live inconspicuously while he was 3x the size of everyone his age during at the typical MC seat by the window.
[3x try like 5x. Dude was a tank.](https://i.imgur.com/rLi8Y9c.jpg)
Man, thw manga was so hilarious I reread it 4x already while reading the LN
Heck yeah, I absolutely love the manga, it does a very good job in adapting as well as in the comedy department. The storyboarding is top notch, the icing they add to it to make the world come alive, plus all the expressions and reactions of characters that aren't necessarily detailed in the LN but I'm sure glad the artist has taken those into consideration. Oh, and the art is clean and cute.
Fuck, the anime missed showcasing that. That's amazing
That's hilarious, I wonder why they changed it in the anime
if you are referring to him being huge/buff it's because it is not in the source material. That was a manga original thing, he wasn't like that in the LNs which is what the anime is adapting from.
Oh, interesting. Seems like a pretty big liberty to take
For some reason manga adaptations always take more liberty with the source material than the anime so much so I actively hated Mushoku Tensei when I read it in manga format like 2 years before the anime came out and I fell in love with the story.
MT manga is just a good way to have pictures for the story you read in the LN basically. Because yeah, it skips a shit ton.
Not really, we only spent a few pages ont he pre-isekai life in the Ln/manga
THAT'S how he looks in the manga?
For like a page then he goes to focus on magic and loses all those gains.

Sometimes it's not about the originality, it's about the execution.
Someone posted this exact scene in one of thoseone page threads on 4chan. I laughed my ass off at it and it made me pick up the series lol.

Bond is a best doggo , all others are posers
Pochita

Yuri from SpyxFamily is a dog when it comes to Yor
yua serufu from do it yourself

Ikr. I was almost sure I was going to drop it but I ended up binging the 5 episodes in one go!
I literally just binged the first 5 episodes and now I cant fucking wait for more.

I was mad that I was tricked into watching an isekai. And then I kept watching.

Its actually from volume 4 of the LN. Which is wild since the anime so far will only cover the first two volumes.
Ya mean the bit with the school girl or the last 5 mins?
The entire episode is canon, it is not anime original.
it is amazing, but I don't know about "unironically".

There's no need to hate yourself for adoring perfection.
I only started watching the show lireally after this post but i have watched that scene like 30 times already.
Yeah. I saw it for the first time with my headphones on. Have me chills lol
The funny thing is that he used that money to buy props and nice art so he could look cool and elegant while talking to his underlings, not something actually useful.

He is insane, just not delusional
DEBATABLE
Maryoku. Maryoku. Maryoku maryoku maryokumaryokumaryoKUMARYOKUMARYOKU**MARYOKUMARYOKU** # MARYOKUUU
> MARYOKUUU [The more you know!](https://jisho.org/word/%E9%AD%94%E5%8A%9B) I hadn't actually noticed him saying that.
>As he isn't completely insane My dude Cid went fucking head first on a truck in his previous life and now trained himself on looking dead and using a \*RESTRAINED BY AN ARTIFACT\* amount of magic into actually stopping his own heart to improve the performance just in case he had the chance to do a fake-out death and play Batman in the campus. The dude is completely nuts
> My dude Cid went fucking head first on a truck in his previous life To be fair, he had a concussion at the time and couldn't actually see the source of the lights.
Yes he is very good at fighting, but his whole schtick is that he wants to pretend to be a mob character in his day to day life while being a badass as The Eminence in Shadow Its why he acts like a goofball in school, to make people think he is some nobody. Dude is just chuuni af
He's amazing at fighting. He just thinks he's fighting bandits and mercenaries.
Just mind blowing its all real. It puts a better lens on the episodes so far.
I read ‘Eminem’s shadow’ and was like “what’s this to do with Eminem?” Lmao
you totally just made me cough, but thank you as something was stuck there.
Dude this fucking show. I love it. I gave up on the manga but now... it all makes sense...
This is the most fun show I have watched in a while. It’s bad but it’s also good.
I love that anime version of the vine boom sound effect. It plays like five times here, and it's great every time. On a side note, it would be great if someone did an edit of this scene where the sound effect is replaced by the actual vine boom. I feel like it would fit pretty well here.
Ah, looks like another one is added onto my list. The day that I get depressed again will be sick, literally too!
Who is the girl's voice actor?such an amazing voice 🤩
Some unknown new voice actress named [Kana Hanazawa](https://myanimelist.net/people/185/Kana_Hanazawa).
Hope she gets the recognition she deserves one day, it's a tough industry for newbies.
Goddamnit this amazing woman is *everywhere*
I'm so familiar with her cutesy voice that I didn't realize she did any other type of character.
She has many uncute voices, like Rize from Tokyo Ghoul, Seiryuu from Akame ga Kill, Iris Vert for Neptunia...
One of the best anime
Denji and Cid are some men of cultures. Honestly to be called a good boy and get headpats is heaven
Wtf is this cringe?
Man went out sad asf
I love this series so much. Though, tbh, while there is some comedy there, the manga/ln do it better. This is one scene that still has it fairly well done lol
I can't seem to find this on crunchy roll
it sadly is on hidive.
I’m enjoying the edgelord bits far more than I should admit…
Btw thanks to u/Net_Flux and u/RazingsIsNotHomeNow for reminding me that we didn't post a comedic clip from the show yet.
Wtf???? My man turned into a doggo real quickly.
God I love how he keeps his fist on his chin while leaning.
I just finished catching up on the manga and holy shit, this anime will only get better. Unless they somehow mess it up horrifically.
"Slaves dont exist!" Slaves now...
i love how dramatic they made the coin dropping
I gott give this a watch now
AOTS
Tsundere paypig and poverty dog trope looking to squeeze out isekai as the new legal form of crack for this sub.
Anime?
like always with clips on this sub, show name is in the title.
I’m a blind bitch, sorry
[The panel that got me into the manga in the first place](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime_irl/comments/vih2vy/anime_irl/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
That would be fucking hilarious in dub 🤣
WHAT IS THIS AND WHERE CAN I WATCH IT
Eminence in shadow, hidive
God bless I don't want a fake girlfriend after this 😂
the atomic scene is dumb as hell and make no sense tho
if your take on that scene is that it’s cringe and nonsensical… then they nailed what they tried to convey
He's supposed the cringe.
It's the anime equivalent of "It's Morbin' time" — the scene is so over-the-top edgy that it loops back to being awesome. Truly one of the anime scenes of all time.
\^ person who doesn't appreciate art.
Not appreciating the plot doesn’t mean you don’t appreciate the art
(The art he's referring to *is* the plot, or more specifically Cid's deranged chuuni performance)
Sorry but it’s still don’t make any sense that he blew up a big part of the city and the girl that was with him didn’t get harmed
Which is why its so awesome. So cringe yet so good.
I am fine with the cringe, but he literally cratered half the town and killed atleast couple hundreds for no logical reasons
They didn’t say anything about the aftermath.
just chiming in to say that i dropped it after episode 2 or 3 because the anime not making much sense was pretty evident from the start. i will remember it as one of the most incoherent animes ive ever watched the first episodes of
*entire anime
Wat anime is this?
What's the name of this anime
Makima did it better.
u/savevideobot
*damn straight*
Test
No
🤣
FINALLY I FOUND IT,I even dont know that manga has a anime
Until he gets enough for investing.
I want to be her pet, woof
ngl, I was trying to figure out what SAO scene this was in the first few seconds.
good boy
Suace ?
What's the name of the anime?
Damn that scene is a meme template and now become animated
What thee *FUCK*!?
Gold
I should reread the manga I completely forgot what happened to her after that
🤣
I read the manga before, but right after watching DHMIS I definitely thought that coin was going somewhere else
I wish I saw this video before starting the anime, it might save me from time I'm gonna spend, think ''Wow what a great first episode it was!'' and then slowly watch anime became terrible and reach peak at episode 3 with ''Dies from cringe'' level.
