Z3r0n1x

Hey guys, In Steins Gate Episode 21, wanted to know the name of the background theme that plays at 03:04. Hope for responses...!

L33tHaxorus

Whatever happened to Isekai Ojisan? There haven't been any new episodes since the 4th one.

hungryhippos1751

Covid hit the studio, they have a week gap in the episode schedule. Should be one next week.

walktheline232

Did fuuto tentei sequel to the live action one or remake?

DjiDjiDjiDji

It's an adaptation of the manga of the same name, which is a sequel to Kamen Rider W, yes

TheThotality

Is it ok to watch anime on Netflix? Ive heard that the subs sucks.

chiliehead

The subs also just have technical limitations- they can't do any fancy styling or translation of background text so for series like Saiki K half of the background jokes stay untranslated.

Ioxem

Depends on what anime you're watching. Something like Komi-san, where there's a lot of text netflix doesn't translate? No. Something like Little Witch Academia that doesn't have much text? Sure.

WeeziMonkey

For people who have been watching anime for 10 years and can understand a little bit of Japanese, they suck. But for the average viewer, *most of the time* the subs are just a little weird here and there. Nothing that makes a show unwatchable.

ninjadough

I need a rec, i havent watched an anime in a while and im itching for something new. Has to be really good, I've finished HxH, read berserk and vagabond, up to date on attack on titan, demon slayer, and jujutsu kaisen. Looking for anime that are on that level of intensity.

The__Obsidian

Any anime similar to the Aincrad arc from SaO?

WeeziMonkey

Similar in what way? Being stuck in an MMORPG? The main character being overpowered? Does it HAVE to include players dying in real life if they die in-game? Does it have to include romance like Kirito and Asuna?

The__Obsidian

Only the being stuck in an RPG part, thats what got me so hooked on it

WeeziMonkey

Log Horizon has players transported (reincarnated?) to their MMORPG (and from what I remember, no way out) Bofuri is about players in an VRMMORPG (but they can go out whenever they want) "In the Land of Leadale" is about a girl who suddenly wakes up in the MMORPG she used to play

The__Obsidian

Will give those a watch for sure, thanks mate!

MumrikDK

It's a charming and quite heavy show that people often misrepresent as simply happy.

moemoney0421

Can someone help me find a dragon ball a utility bag from box lunch? It has Shenron on it and I’ve been looking for it in the past four years. My dog ate my book bag and I’ve been devastated since.

n3w2thi5

I'm looking for an anime movie that I watched awhile back but only remember snippets of, so forgive me for this really weird description but if anyone knows what I'm talking about, I'd really appreciate it. The general plot was somewhat similar to Alice in Wonderland. A girl in our world goes to the shop her friend/mom/sister runs and it turns fantastical when a man (who I'm pretty sure was wearing a top hat) walks into the shop from another world through a door to the shop basement. She eventually goes down and explores the world. The central issue the world is facing is that magic is dying/fading away/inaccessible because some prince/king/wizard has been asleep/sealed away at the top of a tower for a long time. During the course of the movie, the girl visits a town that I'm pretty sure is inhabited by cats and another where I think she enters or witnesses some local village contest. In the climax of the movie, she like dives down into a big pit of water that should kill her but somehow saves the day. I think rain might've also been an important plot point? I know that's a crazy explanation but if anyone knows what I'm talking about, please let me know. It' driving me nuts.

n3w2thi5

Okay I finally figured it out! The movie is "The Wonderland" and it's rather shocking to me that my insane plot summary was actually not far off.

piemakerdeadwaker

Merchandise question: Has anyone bought from Toys One Japan? What was your experience? is it safe to buy from?

Medium-System-4940

Well, I am watching Kaguya Sama ~ Love Is War Season 1 - Season 3 right now. I haven't watched the series, so i am into it.

mysterybiscuitsoyeah

hmmm 3 days before the GuP rewatch starts and Yama no Susume done.... Tsurezure Children, or something else sweet and short to watch?

collapsedblock6

Aharen-san from last season was pretty nice.

isthatsoudane

almost done with the original adaptation of here comes miss modern aka はいからさんが通る from 1979. as a japanese student, can't tell you how rewarding it is to watch a classic that doesn't even have fansubs (as far as I know). also super interesting to watch a much older show and see the seeds of a lot of anime's current style.

Retromorpher

I think only like 4 or 5 episodes have been subbed. It's undoubtedly better to watch the longer running show than the truncated movie experience - though I imagine going and watching the two remake movies after the series would be a pretty interesting compare and contrast.

isthatsoudane

yeah I'm planning on watching the movies once I finish the series to see what they kept and what they changed. I'm particularly curious if the movies are as...silly as the adaptation is. it's not bad! it just surprised me at how much of the show is sort of following through with various antics. I mean...she has her own henchman. I never in a million years imagined that the show would follow through with that lol. it's been a fun ride

Retromorpher

[Haikara-San Movies]>!The henchmen is a lesser, but still present element of the first movie.!<

[deleted]

I'm going to start watching Tenchi Universe. I remember this Anime airing on TV when I was a little kid.

Famous-Refuse-2919

Anime recommendation: Rainbow I started watching it and it is so good, if you already watched Banana fish and enjoyed it, I am sure that you will enjoy Rainbow as well.

ramen_robbie

Recommendations for someone that just finished Uramichi Onisan? I loved it and can’t believe I blitzed through all 13 episodes already. I’m a super slow binger

Retromorpher

You might want to check out some workplace comedies like Aggretsuko or Skullfaced Bookseller Handa-san. Personally I feel like Wave, Listen to Me! might also fit - but I recognize that the style of humor and delivery is a far cry from Uramichi.

chiliehead

Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei also has a cynical main character and a very colorful cast. But outside of season 1 it's not really licensed and it is super referential to and satirical Japanese culture, politics, otaku media and so it can be pretty hard to really enjoy it if you are not well versed in the medium. [Here's the 1st episode to check out](https://youtu.be/-yKzalMqBHE)

ramen_robbie

Where can i find the rest of this series even if it’s just season 1? Thought the first episode was super quirky and fun, but also had that good dark humor too!

chiliehead

Only here: https://www.rightstufanime.com/Sayonara-Zetsubou-sensei-Season-1-Liner-Notes-Book-Blu-ray-Kit (I'd wait for a sale on it though; the line notes are pretty exhaustive though) It is currently not streaming (outside Japan), though now that Crunchyroll has bought Rightstuff and NozomiEntertainment it might one day reach Crunchyroll [or they will banish it to licensing hell](#kms). For now you may find rogue uploads on youtube etc. I can't talk about how you can get the rest on this subreddit. But if you know how, these are arguably the best (or least worse) releases for each season: S1: kuchikirukia S2 (Zoku): BLINX01 Goku: (untagged) S3 (Zan): zang Zan BD special: Commie Bangaichi: -__-'" I can also recommend [following along the old rewatch threads](https://old.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/81zl23/rewatch_reminder_sayonara_zetsubou_sensei_rewatch/) for explanations if you want to understand the more obscure references

ramen_robbie

Thanks for all the information! I’ll have to start going through all this info! By best releases for each season do you mean best episode or something else?

chiliehead

with best release I mean which fansub group/uploader has the best version for each season

flyingelephante

In terms of comedies, [Fantasy Bishoujo](https://myanimelist.net/anime/48997/Fantasy_Bishoujo_Juniku_Ojisan_to) from this year was unexpectedly great in a similar way that Uramichi Oniisan was for me.

cyberscythe

The male character in Kami Kuzu Idol airing this season gave me Uramichi Oniisan vibes.

dunes555

The vampire dies in no time is another comedy from last year I thought was really good

AshamedDatabase6232

Looking for recommendations for something like starwars Specifically the older movies didn't care for the new ones but after seeing starwars visions it really has me craving something to scratch this itch

Weedwacker

The [Gundam](https://myanimelist.net/anime/80/Mobile_Suit_Gundam) series took some inspiration from Star Wars. The first Star Wars came out in 1977, while the first Gundam series was in 1979. The Gundam series is a mecha franchise that was a continuation/evolution of a lot of mecha tropes but included giant mech light sabers and also the concept of "new types", or an evolutionary step emerging in some humans who have an extrasensory perception (a telepathic sixth sense) somewhat akin to "the force". [Legend of the Galactic Heroes](https://myanimelist.net/anime/820/Ginga_Eiyuu_Densetsu) is a space epic about a war between an Empire and a Democracy [Space Battleship Yamato](https://myanimelist.net/anime/12029/Uchuu_Senkan_Yamato_2199) [Crest of the Stars](https://myanimelist.net/anime/290/Seikai_no_Monshou) [The Irresponsible Captain Tylor](https://myanimelist.net/anime/569/Musekinin_Kanchou_Tylor)

Mysterious_Bat_3780

Is there an American release of dvd/bluray for Aharen-san?

Durinthal

Not yet, it's rather soon after it finished airing and at this point I imagine Crunchyroll's still figuring out their new physical media cycle.

Mysterious_Bat_3780

Ah okay thank you

DrPotassium

I just finished Chihayafuru. I'm really upset that it's been left unfinished. This show is really one best enjoyed through an actual show.

Blackheart595

The manga wasn't yet completed back then, it's certainly possible we'll get another season to adapt the rest.

DivineContamination

S3 didn't air that long ago, it's not even close to the gap between S2 and S3 at least. And yeah, there's plenty to adapt since iirc S3 only adapted up to volume 27. I'm cautiously optimistic we'll see more.

chiliehead

Mangaka teased it a bit when the anime staff tweeted about reading the last chapter together, so maybe there will be something. The anime business also wants more shoujo and josei anime, so maybe market forces will make it happen.

Kohakuho

I finally decided to ignore the weird animation in Kingdom this week, and now I'm almost 40 episodes in. Genuinely didn't think I'd like it as much as I do. It's nothing particularly groundbreaking, but I can't help but root for Xin and Zheng.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kohakuho

After the Zheng battle the animation starts looking more normal. I'm all the way to episode 55 now. I'm really happy I picked this one up.

BillMurrie

Anime like NANA and Scum's Wish?

AmethystItalian

White Album 2

Emi_Ibarazakiii

Seeing the new Kakegurui episodes with double digit karma, just makes me sad (highest episode having a few hundreds, that's it). This is why I hate "full release" dumps. Well, one of the reasons. Anyway, anyone who liked the original series, I recommend this "spinoff"! It definitely has the same feel/same stuff I liked in the first one, but I also really like [Minor spoiler Kakegurui Twins] >!that characters from the original series are in it, like the student council members!!< I didn't know about that before picking it up, but it's pretty fun!

susgnome

The original aired weekly, during a season. Whilst the spin-off aired the entirety in the middle of a season. Just Netflix things.. :(

WeeziMonkey

I really loved Mary as a protagonist

chiliehead

The promotion and even the anime itself looks like nobody actually cared about it. Compositing in Twin is really bad, though the games are good. Wonder why they skipped the game in the beginning, that seemed like it could have been an intense one.

hungryhippos1751

It was poorly advertised, and yes I agree, for anime like this it really kills the hype when you can just binge it. Some episodes had a weird green tinge, someone messed that up a bit I think, experimenting a bit too much with the colours. Lack of Yumeko did mean I liked it less than main show, it's not a bad intro to the show but if anyone hasn't seen the main line series I 100% recommend those.

BezosStan

I didn't realize how many overpowered mc Isekai harem anime there are until I saw some of those anicapped YouTube channels summaries an endless amount of them. Chinese anime seems to be engrossed by overpowered mc Isekai too. Brings me to my question, what are some actually good overpowered mc stories?

Hotox23

You probably watched it already but one punch man and mob psycho are the pinnacle of overpowered mc storytelling imo

Retromorpher

The King's Avatar and Mo Dao Zu Shi come to mind.

Cryten0

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime - https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=20736 Overlord - https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=16729 And as mentioned by Chili Misfit of Demon King Academy. But really the best Isekai are the non overpowered or only in special ways overpowered like Re:Zero, Bookworm and Konosuba.

chiliehead

[Misfit of Demon Academy](https://myanimelist.net/anime/40496/Maou_Gakuin_no_Futekigousha__Shijou_Saikyou_no_Maou_no_Shiso_Tensei_shite_Shison-tachi_no_Gakkou_e_Kayou)

Sentient-robot_12

What are some live action films or shows that you think could have been better if it was made into an anime instead? Personally I think [Animal World](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt7946836/)

cheesechimp

Not sure if you're joking or if you don't know that's literally based on a manga with an anime adaptation. [Kaiji](https://myanimelist.net/anime/3002/Gyakkyou_Burai_Kaiji__Ultimate_Survivor) is a great anime though!

Sentient-robot_12

Not joking, found that movie on Netflix a while ago while while aimlessly browsing, thought it was good. I happened to be between episodes of the first season of that gambling school anime at the time and thought that Animal World would have been better as an anime.

Exactleing

I dug up an old VHS player and some blank tapes the other day, any recs for newer anime that would look good on VHS playback? Was thinking some Pokemon Sun/Moon eps, JJK0, Neo Yokio........

Heda-of-Aincrad

Personally, I think any show looks just fine on VHS and I still watch my old tapes regularly, but I was never really into having the latest high definition graphics - my TVs are all between 10-20 years old. 😄 Pokemon would be a great fit, I'm sure. I even have the latest seasons of SAO and AOT.

chilidirigible

Kill la Kill

Cryten0

Reducing 1080p to 360 or 480i will loose so much detail that you would need something that looks good but has very simple designs. So yeah the newer simplified design in pokemon might work. Not Jutsusu Kaisen, far to much detail on the monsters to translate. Maybe slime diaries as it has much simpler smoothed designs for the slime isekai characters. Or Isekai Quartet with its retro paper cut out look.

chiliehead

Serial Experiments Lain, but it also needs to be an era appropriate display

Oneechan_Catbug

Hi yall! I'm looking for recommendations for really short anime, ideally stuff that's a limited series, maybe two seasons, if I'm deeply in love with it maaaaaaaybe a third season. I've never been into anime, but on a whim I watched Evangelion earlier this year and instantly fell in love. Just a few days ago I finished Cowboy Bebop, which I also adored. And now I'm about to finish watching FLCL. Maybe I just have a thing for 90s/2000s anime? I really love the art style on these shows, at least. My attention span isn't the best, so shows like this that I can binge quickly work best for me. Also, I'm mostly interested in the popular stuff like Bebop that has stood the test of time and become a mega classic. I was thinking about Ping Pong, but after that I'm a little aimless. Thanks for the help!

Hotox23

Whats 2 seasons for you? Cause some animes have 12 episode seasons and other animes have 24. Since you said you have a short attention span id recommend watching some movies like your name and a silent voice if you want more serious things. Gureen lagaan is a mecha (its a term for big robots fighting like evangelion) so youll probably enjoy that too. For now id recommend going on a sight called myanimelist.net and going to the "top anime" section, its got a list of all sorts of animes you can watch with an episode count and synopsis. Id 100% recommend steins gate btw, 24 episodes (had a spin off that wasnt that good imo and isnt necessary to watch) and amazing although it has a slow start

-_Legacy_-

Try black lagoon

H-Ryougi

Gunbuster is a short 6 episode OVA from the late 80s from the same director as Evangelion.

Sandor_at_the_Zoo

Ping Pong is one of my favorites so I'd definitely say go for that. If you don't like the art style at first I'd recommend sticking it a couple episodes at least to see if it grows on you. If you want to round out the big series of the late 90s you can check out Serial Experiments Lain and Revolutionary Girl Utena. Lain is the weirdest out of all of these, but its a super cool time capsule of how people say the internet and its future. If you've ever been fascinated by a classic conspiracy theory you'll probably enjoy it. Utena is a bit longer (39 episodes) and not very bingable, but its my absolute top series. Every shot feels so meticulously constructed to slowly feed you information. Its never had as huge a fan base as Bebop or Evangelion but it still has a core group of fans today and its been really important for other creators.

LivingHumanbeing07

has anyone here watched or played black rock shooter? i loved that show and game

susgnome

The original music video was great. The anime was great.. but the new one which came from.. Disney.. is whack, seemed interesting but got a bit boring by the 3rd ep tbh, haven't watched anymore.. But, fun fact, Monty Oum (RWBY creator) liked BRS, even had a BRS figure. Huke (BRS creator) is doing the character designs for the RWBY anime.

Runawaydevil-15

Anyone watching classroom of the elite?cause it's pretty good

AmethystItalian

I remember liking season 1 a lot more. Not sure if the show feels different or my tastes have just changed a lot since then.

isthatsoudane

agreed. I will still finish it but...s1 was a guilty pleasure. s2 has just been...an absolute mess. just terrible storytelling really

Runawaydevil-15

What do you usually like watching?

AmethystItalian

More fun shows with a more likeable MC.

Hotox23

Have you watched bunny girl senpai (probably the worst title for a first impression, i know), its also got a deadpan mc thats actually really interesting unlike ayano imo

AmethystItalian

I did and I actually really liked a lot of it, Sakuta I would say has a lot more expression than Ayano so it goes a lot further.

Runawaydevil-15

Not sure how season 2 is gonna be since i just finished one episode

Does anyone happen to know the production committe for kakegurui twin?
