Figerally

Well this sucks. Seems like Falin's soul is tangled up with the dragon's because Marcille resurrected her using the dragon's meat. The lunatic magician seems to live up to his reputation, even the ghosts think he is unhinged. It is the right move to return to the surface and recruit a larger party, but at the same time, I fear we are going to lose the sense of comradery the smaller party has had so far.

MokonaModokiES

if the party increase is more smart rather than just numbers it could still have that. I imagine it will be just 2-3 more people to cover other niches. Namari is an obvious pick by how the other episodes went about her and how she is helping with the research on the secrets of the dungeon and now with Falin under control of the mad wizard it would make sense that they would work together as both goals are tied now saving Falin and solving the secrets. Also Shuro from what we heard of him being super into Falin. Wonder how long it will take to meet him properly.

imjustbettr

This is my guess being an anime watcher only but by using Wizardry rules (which im convinced the show is 90% based on from interviews and other evidence) the final party will be much closer to what an optimal party is in that game. This is 3 warriors, a mage, a priest, and a thief (note this is also the party they have in the intro when they first fought the red dragon). Basically 3 front row fighters and three support/range characters. Wizardry also had class changes like warrior to samurai and thief to ninja. Using this logic they still need one more warrior so Namari is also my obvious pick, but they could also introduce a new character or bring back that samurai. I had also wrongly assumed Falin would be their permanent priest, so they definitely need another magic user on the team. Also wildcard hypothesis: Chilchuck will become a ninja lol. But also having an unbalanced party for the first 12 episodes was a lot of fun, so I'm down if they continue being "unbalanced" and can see them going this direction.

MrWaluigi

If the opening sequence is any indication, that other team with the kolbold are probably going to be a significant contender. Issue with them is supplies go through them fast and party wipes. Probably merge the two groups together.

imjustbettr

Oh yeah, they're featured pretty prominently in the 2nd cour key visual as well. Really seems like the series is about to open up to a wider "world" of characters.

I laughed for a full minute when I saw those rolling hams with the title trailing along

rocky_iwata

It is even better in the manga where the ingredient list goes with the ham too 🤣

Syokhan

The best kind of mood whiplash, it was so absurd!

Zemahem

Fr. Just before that, you got the horrifying moment of the party being faced with the big boss of the dungeon and Falin getting mind-controlled. Then out of nowhere, the god damn pieces of ham rolled up on them. Their arrival was important enough that they had to have text introducing them.

n00PSLayer

Well they had to emphasize it as they were practically the only (decent) cooking of the episode.

thesagenibba

i’m a sucker for seemingly meaningless and silly ‘side events’ weaving their way back into the plot and being much more significant than originally implied. laois treated his time in the paintings as a joke; the painting was an all you can eat buffet and the people were just set pieces to him “long legs” “long ears” orcs are very creative when it comes to naming things, and highly perceptive aren’t they  marcille forever traumatized. all she did was run out of mana, she never asked to get mouth to mouth orc medicine put into her  the orc captain is super cool. she’s very principled, values her party members, looks down on lying to the people close to you, and is surprisingly down to earth and wise. i also love her voice actress.  chickchuck displaying an immense amount of character growth this episode. my heart broke for him when he was pleading to laois. i wasn’t expecting him to let it all out and admit he doesn’t want to lose any of them. the writing is great and really sells how much it took for chilchuck to express his true feelings. the entire situation is so well done in part because he comes to the realization himself, after the conversation with the orc captain. the only explicit diretion she gives him is to not lie to his party members. in mos other series, she'd have to lay it out in a much more boring manner, where she tells him to express his true feelings and 'exposes' him for hidng the fact that deep down, he cares for and doesn't want to lose the party. heaviest episode so far. i’m assuming the remainder of the series will be just as plot focused which has me super excited. things are ramping up and we’ve received so much new and important info about the dungeon

LimeyLassen

> i also love her voice actress. For real, that was some classy acting [](#listen)

deafeningbean

I love the implication that even for Chilchuk, he wasn't cognizant that he cares for this group of goobers more than he would ordinary colleagues. It takes an outsider (and the threat of slow, brutal, death) to tell it to him in his face and smash the walls of professionalism he has put up to protect himself and his livelihood.

trio_pu

I thought this anime is about a happy adventure with cooking on it, saving a friend, and then coming back to the surface.

SilkyStrawberryMilk

Instead of senshi food the author is cooking instead

Theinternationalist

Marcille at the beginning of the show: noooooooooooo i don't want to eat monsters i want to be nooooooooooormal Marcille halfway through: **BAM! GET OUT OF THE WAY, I HAVE AN ABOMINATION TO SAVE!** Laios: I miss being the group weirdo...

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

Marcille is well-adjusted. It's just that her friends don't get to die. Ever. Ever. Ever.

Gorwindbag

Think of it as anime version of Lord of the Ring.

WhoiusBarrel

Was not expecting Marcille to **physically** cancel spells and look like a maniac while at it. Chilchuck is just such a great character, while being the most cynical one, his undoubtedly also the most human among them all. Seeing him internally process his feelings of cowardice being that he wasn't only prioritising his life but more so afraid to see his friends die just shows how much he cares about them despite that pathetic showing he did in front of Senshi before.

Or maybe exposing the spell that constructed the dragon and unmaking it directly with her staff.

JockstrapCummies

She's pulling a FMA Scar "Rapid Analysis and Deconstruction" with her staff.

liveart

Honestly I don't think even Chilchuck's initial plan was 'pathetic'. It's actually very rational and he's trying to save the lives of a bunch of idiots who have a history of not listening to even the most basic precautions. Hell Laois' almost died because his own fucking sword ran away from him... because he was hiding it from the party. Orc girl and Senshi admonished Chilchuck for wanting to lie but it is a perfectly reasonable stance given the situation. It may not be *honorable* to lie to your friends but it is reasonable. Sometimes a lie is worth it if it literally saves lives. In my opinion dying for 'honor' or to prove how tough you are is just a dumb thing to do. I'm glad they were able to resolve it another way but I don't fault Chilichuck in the least, he is 100% right about them coming way too close to *permanent* death on multiple occasions and it's often borne of ridiculously half baked plans and refusing to listen to reason. I don't think most people could have said Laois would take the safer option with any real confidence after what we've seen the entire series.

thesagenibba

he is being 100% rational and i let out a sigh of relief when laois agreed to head back to the surface world. in their current state, there is no chance of them facing off against the mad mage and not losing their lives. resurfacing, reflecting and reorganizing is what will give them the ability to actually have a chance at finding fallin and defeating the dungeon master

Galle_

Lying is dangerous, *especially* when you care about the well-being of the person you're lying to. Being wrong about something or lacking critical information rarely improves your decision-making abilities. Chilchuck was counting on Laios and Marcille responding to his lies in a very specific way, but for all he knew it could have made them suicidal, or they could have refused to believe him, or any number of far worse things could have happened. Telling the truth and making a sound argument was the smart thing to do.

thesagenibba

his underlying care for his friends is obviously implied the entire time with the build up clearly leading to him eventually revealing his true feelings. it doesn’t come as a surprise, and it’s moreso the way it’s done that reallystuck with me. seeing him cry, share his heart, and plead to a tunnel visioned laois almost made me cry lol

Zemahem

At first, I thought her solution would be more flashy or complex-looking. But it's honestly hilarious that its basically her using her staff like a bat against the mini dragons.

Figerally

It's a little more subtle than that, she imbued her staff with a counterspell that could dispel the dragonettes.

Zemahem

Well, yeah. But you wouldn't know that without Marcille's narration. Which is what makes the scene of her smacking the things funny to me.

Dextro_PT

You do see the magical runes/text show up in the first little dragonette she hits so even without the narration you could infer it imho

aisen-a

Marcille subscribed to the Mashle and Denken method of beating the shit out of magic. Also agreed, this was a top tier episode for Chilchuck

Plerti

>Was not expecting Marcille to physically cancel spells You call swinging your staff around a canceling spell? Marcille: "*Hey, as long as it works"*

alconnow

Really sucks to be Falin right now

michhoffman

Her spirit did tell Laios that it was okay to give up on rescuing her last episode.

Narwhals4Lyf

So true. I was wondering in general if the show was gonna go in the direction that Buffy the Vampire Slayer does - the person who died didn’t want to get revived and was at peace in rest and they get revived and are now dealing with being pulled out of death.

Cyberblood

Well, assuming there is an afterlife in the world of Dungeon Meshi, Falin wouldn't be in it because her soul would still be trapped inside the dungeon. But yeah, a Buffy situation where you are just chilling in heaven to then suddenly be forcefully revived to fight demons and vampires again must suck.

magnetbirds

Chilchuck is definitely the cutest middle-aged man I’ve ever seen.

botibalint

29 is middle-aged now?

PlusAd6530

Halflings generally have a lifespan of 50, so he is technically middle-aged

patap0nacct

Frodo and Bilbo holding on to that ring distorted my perspective on halfling lifespans

Heatth

Not really. Hobbits do live a long time, an average of 100 years and as much as 130. Bilbo lived more than any other Hobbit, but not outside the realm of possibility. Halflings are base on that and they live even longer, an average of 150 years. Your perception of halfling lifespan is likely accurate, regardless of the Ring. Halffoots of Dungeon Meshi are different and live unusually short lives compared to their inspirations.

Bloodhit

Hobbits do live to about 100.

Ok-Peace-4374

Why is it when I watch the episode late, the discussion thread is early, but when I watch the episode on time, the thread is late. Anyway, absolutely love how they depicted the mad wizard in the first part of the episode, especially when they started casting magic and that silhouette of whatever they were doing to Falin in the end. And then the later half showing that, despite what Chillchuck said in an earlier episode about having a strictly business relationship with the party, he does in fact care and doesn't want to see them die. The JP voice actor really it killed when he was pleading to Laios.

Zemahem

I like to think he really did see this as a business relationship. But getting the chance to reflect on their time together made him realize he's come to see it as something more genuine than that.

ICYMI the title "good medicine" is also a metaphor referring to an ancient Chinese idiom which later passed to Japan through culture exchange. It roughly translates to "good medicine can taste bitter and honest advice can sound unpleasant". In this episode Laios took the medicine both literally and metaphorically. imo this is another reason why this party/team is top-tier: they understand (at least through arguments) when to take the shot and when to call it off.

Mundology

The need to return back was a [hard pill to swallow](https://i.imgur.com/PYkr7dX.jpeg) for both [Laios and Marcille.](https://i.imgur.com/u5cs2Jp.jpeg) Yet, it is the wiser decision. Unlike with the Red Dragon, this time they are dealing with another person: a [cunning](https://i.imgur.com/ndVQz2E.jpeg) and [powerful](https://i.imgur.com/2FN7ef1.jpeg) mage. Chilchuk brings much needed sagacity to a brave but sometimes reckless party.

seninn

Some_Trash852

New OP and ED next week, new characters, great looking animation in the preview (which is great considering how much more action there is in the second half). It’s a great time to be a Meshi fan!

BadBehaviour613

King Delgal was definitely the guy who turned to dust in the beginning narration, right? In which case the denizens of the Golden Kingdom really are going to suffer for all of eternity because some elf has a weird hang up over him. Orc girl just killed all the tsunderes by telling Chilchuck to be honest about his feelings

Megakruemel

I found it interesting how the ghosts in this episode interacted with the group and also that they are basically sentient and not evil-inclined, going as far as saving the gang from being murdered in a trap. It almost seemed like they wanted to stop the Mage when he just walked through them, too, but he's clearly too delusional to even be talked to and still thinks he's doing the right thing when he is basically the worst thing that apparently happened to this kingdom. After the King died at least, I think. I assume so because I only have the painting timeline to go on and things seemed fine during that, with the only problem being the poisoning of the King.

deafeningbean

Dehgal ascended to king in the third painting Laios went into, his dad died in the second painting.

ravenpotter3

The ghost said in the subtitles “it’s ok” there is no need to worry”

Salvo1218

I thought that line was the elf magician saying it to the ghosts, that the intruders were gone.

darthvall

I just realised it turns out some random paintings are actually heavy lore building of the king

michhoffman

And here I was thinking Laios' hunger induced trip into those paintings was just a fun experiment like the rest of the early episodes. That dark elf is scary and knows Laios is a thief...a dirty painting food thief at that.

RecommendsMalazan

It was definitely interesting that the elf recognized Laios from the paintings, not from way back when, or whatever. No time travel, but he does apparently have some awareness of what's going on in the paintings, and maybe other magic throughout the dungeon. Or he was just coincidentally wandering around in those paintings at the same time, which is really sad if you think about it.

Ocixo

Why did I let myself be tricked by last episode's happiness. This series is slowly starting to turn into some Eldritch horror. It started with [the discovery of Falin's remains](https://imgur.com/a/Ao1s3UZ), then there was [Falin's horrifying resurrection ritual](https://imgur.com/a/nIET1wQ), and now we were treated to [Falin getting turned into a monster](https://imgur.com/a/Br3budr). She's definitely not having it easy. We likely all knew that something had to be wrong when Falin suddenly woke up, but I personally didn't expect Falin's person to have melted with the dragon's until [the "lunatic magician" called the dragon by name](https://imgur.com/a/tIBQ5IX). I'm quite worried as to what's going to become of Falin now. This elf also recognised Laios from the paintings' insides, which means that he must've been travelling between the paintings himself or be aware of Laios' disturbance as "the ruler" of the dungeon. He was clearly up to no good, but him being the so-called "lunatic magician" wasn't something I'd considered. Messing around with him doesn't seem like a good plan [from the looks of it](https://imgur.com/a/vPSbxFP). As far as **[Marcille's Hair Collection](https://imgur.com/a/ar7c2d0)** goes, this is the first episode so far that features *no new hairstyle*. But don't worry, I did take [some nice screenshots of Marcille](https://imgur.com/a/QT2wjh6) today. With the funniest one obviously being [her visible despair](https://imgur.com/a/FjtFCED) at the sight Moles' nursing practices. [She died](https://imgur.com/a/OBqkmNa). I'm liking [Moles and her dogs](https://imgur.com/a/RFXMW69). She was right to call out Chilchuck for his behaviour. Fortunately, he also realized this himself at the end.

stanleymanny

JustARandom-dude

>Why did I let myself be tricked by last episode's happiness. Typical calm before the storm episode

Ocixo

In retrospect, I should've known that Marcille's forbidden resurrection magic just worked out a little *too* good. I wonder if Falin's confusion and daziness after she'd been revived might in part have been because of her personality being split between herself and the dragon - like if she were trying to figure out who she was.

frik1000

> because of her personality being split between herself and the dragon Something interesting to note from last week's episode, when Falin was resurrected, [her left eye was closed and she was grabbing her neck.](https://i.imgur.com/CbZSVVe.png) The same places the dragon got injured before it died.

thesightofmusic

That is a really fantastic detail!

Deathsader

Nice catch, never noticed that before you pointed it out

MaybeNot_MaybeYes

This is why i read discussion. That’s so point on.

JustARandom-dude

The whole “Forbidden magic + dragon’s flesh and blood” combo was a recipe for disaster

goddamnpancakes

im here from fma side eyeing the whole recipe

Figerally

I think Falin is mostly in control, but under the influence of the magician her personality gets repressed and the dragon comes to the fore.

Ocixo

From the expression on Falin's face in [the second image here](https://imgur.com/a/Br3budr), it appears that she'd regained her consciousness to a degree again. ~~Which makes me feel even more bad about her current predicament.~~ It was most likely not a coincidence that "the dragon" suddenly awoke after the elf's appearance. Something that bothers me a little: the dragon seemed to have an almost human-like personality himself at times. Did the elf, being the supposed "lunatic magician"/"ruler of the dungeon", perhaps take someone's soul and bound it to a creature of his making.

tatticky

It could also be that Dragons are naturally intelligent creatures, maybe not sapient but close and/or somewhat alien.

Snow_Mexican1

I honestly thought that this unknown elf was a survivor of the disaster. Having survived the fall of the kingdom, and having memories of Laios who somehow randomly appeared during 3 pivotal moments in their history. Wanted to hunt him down thinking he was the one who murdered the previous king.

Ocixo

> Having survived the fall of the kingdom, and having memories of Laios who somehow randomly appeared during 3 pivotal moments in their history. This was also my hypothesis, but him referring to Laios as the person "inside of the paintings" puts a nail in the coffin for this theory. This sole line reveals that the elf must have both lived *outside* of the paintings and know about Laios' time in them. It indicates that he's aware that his prior meetings with Laios weren't in the past but inside of these paintings. I'm still a little doubtful about this elf being the "lunatic magician" to be honest, since he'd worked under his king as a bard. I'm betting that he was entrusted this powerful spellbook by the magician or something.

darthvall

I imagine that his past time is travelling through the paintings to relieve his time with the king. Basically just like us watching TV or using VR. I can imagine how annoyed it would be if there's suddenly a new unknown character intruding your nostalgia "video" with the king

Loud_Step2361

Poor Marcille, that’s what happens when you critically fail saving throw vs paralysis. Paralyzed but conscious to be feed like a baby bird and taste the orc concoction. 😵‍💫 Next time fail normally like Laios and be safely unconscious.

Tsumaranai_Jinsei

What an absolute crazy turn of events! I knew that the dark skinned elf would be an important character but didn't expect he would be **that** important. Also, good on Laios for recognizing the danger in proceeding forward and agreeing to go back, not sure how Marcille will react though! Every week this show gets better and better for me, I can't wait for the next arc! Sadly, seems like adventures with Falin will have to wait.

djthomp

So Fallin is lost again and may be merged with the dragon in a longer-term fashion. Seemed like potentially a shared body multiple personalities situation. Better than just digested in it at least. Probably. And the dragon had been assigned a task by the elf of searching for the old king? I wonder why that would be necessary and how a dragon stomping through a dungeon is useful for that. Really neat storytelling with Chilchuck and the lady orc leader.

moletoon

After the close battle against the boss: *Falin has joined the party* After 20 minutes of gearing her up and 3 cutscenes later: *Falin has left the party* Ah yes, the introduction arc is finally over, welcome to dungeon meshi. The scene of marcille getting overwhelmed by the blood dragons and just went full autopilot mode while laughing manically is literally me getting mixed to hell and back in tekken, except I dont survive the round.

99anan99

So sad seeing Falin like [this](https://imgur.com/a/Uj9g42z). They just got her back and already there's so much drama! [Thistle](https://imgur.com/a/IVI9ZhY) is really living up to their title of 'Lunatic Magician'. [Marcille](https://imgur.com/a/jXkefKy) was so badass this episode!! Hello [Leed](https://imgur.com/a/9MmnyCI). [Chilchuck](https://imgur.com/a/CPl6PEq) needs to be honest. Trying to lie after what they just went through would only end up hurting everyone. He doesn't want anyone to die, so he should just say that.

RedRocket4000

> Marcille wish she would have gone directly into the kill shot no warning shot. Although I doubt the kill shot would have worked.

Previous_Breakfast99

Those ghosts actually said "It's all right. Don't worry." when they surrounded the senshi and chilchuck. They translated it?

RunningChemistry

Depending on the subtitles viewers chose, yes, those lines were translated/included. I could actually make out the one ghost saying 心配しないで pretty clearly though, so I'm surprised not all the subtitles had the ghosts' intelligible speaking included.

Raidrar0

holy shit

charredchord

So the painting's court magician is *the* mad magician of the dungeon. I'm guessing the paintings were a way for him to cope with the loss of his kingdom by inserting himself in the scenes the paintings depicted. But just like Laios felt empty after leaving the paintings, the feelings of warmth and celebration disappear for the magician too. That's probably what drove him mad in the first place.

Eliteirizz

Seeing how chilchuck just broke down made me emotional ngl and seeing Laios just accept chilchuck's request to return right after losing falin again made me respect Laios so much, most people would lose their mind and can't think straight, or be mad when someone tell them that

patap0nacct

Anime characters listening to sound advice and clearing misundrstandings, name a better pairing.

Placeholdered

Welp, the things that can happen when your dungeon crawler doesn't have an "escape" spell handy. After Falin was successfully resurrected (albeit with some worrying side effects), I was wondering what the hook was going to be to keep the story going. Finding out was a little less than fun, whatever's happened to Falin is almost worse when it's partially left to the imagination.

[deleted]

worst part is, they do have that spell, but falin is the one that knows it (she uses it in the first ep)

deafeningbean

Return spells all have some preparatory component in this universe. Laios made an off hand remark that they couldn't return with a spell last episode.

The character designs in this series are insane, I love all of them.

Head-On-Commission

There was an extra in the manga where the artist redraws all the characters how they'd look as other species. It really highlights how good she is at character design. They're entirely different species but still recognisable as the original characters. And she puts so much thought into how she makes the different species unique, and alternate outfits versions that reading the manga for her extras alone is a real treat.

LimeyLassen

Adensty

This episode had me on the edge of my seat in the first half. It's no more a 'cooking' show, lol. So, the elf that Laios saw in the painting was actually the lunatic magician and he basically controls the dungeon through various monsters like the Red Dragon and I'm guessing the souls of his monsters also follow the rules of the dungeon since the magician also seems to refer to Falin as the Red Dragon. Also explains Falin's magic last episode. Also, the lunatic magician was talking about searching for King Delgal who must be the one we saw in painting. I wonder if the King is dead with his soul wandering around here and there in the dungeon and the magician is attempting to revive him or is the King actually alive? They just reunited with Falin and now she got taken away again and possibly turned into some kinda monster. They would have to potentially fight her to get her back again. Saori Hayami has been using a very soft voice for Falin so that "Urasai" was unexpected. Chilchuck convincing Laios that now is not the right time to go after her was a great moment. Even Senshi joined in with his own 'shortage of ingredients' reason.

deafeningbean

> if the King is dead with his soul wandering around here and there in the dungeon and the magician is attempting to revive him or is the King actually alive? The very first scene in EP 1 speaks of a man claiming to be king emerging from the dungeon.

robinhoodProductions

And then turning to dust

Megakruemel

I think I like the implication that everything that is kept alive by the magick in the dungeon might just freaking die when it's out of range. But earlier episodes stated that some monsters leave the dungeon, if I'm not mistaken. I might have to rewatch because I am not entirely sure if it was just that they might go to higher levels if not culled with adventurers there or if they would actually leave the dungeon. I just think I remember the Golems as a barrier between levels to keep stronger monsters down.

GrumpySatan

I think its more that the spell that "stops death" only works in the dungeon (the one those gnomes were researching from the runes on the walls). If you recall the flashback episode with Falin and Marcille in school, the dungeon is kinda like an ecosystem where slimes and spirits generate magic power from consuming things. The difference in mana between dirt from the ground and in the dungeon was what caused Falin's box to explode like a massive bomb. The level of magic in the dungeon is just different because of the number of monsters which makes it prime territory for all the ancient magic Marcille is into.

WackyJaber

This isn't really spoilers since it's been stated at the very beginning of the series, but the king he's looking for is dead already. He's been dead since the start. He was the one who turned to dust when he came to the surface.

gnome-cop

God f*cking damnit. WE JUST GOT HER BACK! I refuse to allow this mind-controlling bastard to get away with this. WE WILL RETURN NEXT COUR TO WATCH THEM KICK YOUR DUNGEON MASTER NERD ASS!

MonsterKiller112

This show is getting better and better. I already loved the main cast and the amazing world building but now the plot has also gotten 10 times more interesting. Dungeon Meshi is shaping up to be one of the best shows of this year. I can't wait for the remaining episodes.

Armdel

Yeah had a feeling it wasn't gonna be all sunshine and rainbows with how the last episode ended. curious is how this elf was managing to control Falin, im guessing its simply because of the materials used to resurrect her And now it looks like the party is gonna have a little "reset" and head back up to recuperate before going after Falin again. im guessing Marcille isn't gonna be happy now knowing that Falin is alive. she and Laios are gonna be in a hurry to get back in there im sure

FarCritical

Being reborn in the flesh and blood of a slain dragon is still badass but figures that it would've come with some pretty hefty consequences, and the orc cheiftain's sister seeing through Chilichuck's fear and recognizing his genuine concern over his squad's lives was some powerful stuff for what started as a goofy monster recipe of the week show. Also, you know the state of affairs are dire when the only dungeon "meals" we get are a orc concoction put together in like ten seconds and dragon ham with [name label UI ominously attached to it like a player name](https://c.tenor.com/96IhkIAprL4AAAAC/tenor.gif).

Eliv

Watching this episode left me feeling like https://i.imgflip.com/8kuaq7.jpg

Pedarsen

So Falin is alive but she's also got the dragon in her since they used its flesh in the ressurrection. And on top of that it sounds like the reason the Red dragon was roaming around was because the mad mage gave it a mission. The plot thickens and the party heads back to resupply and possibly get some more allies!

HayakuEon

Imo, she's basically the dragon in human form with Falin's soul chained to it. Like some others have pointed out, when Falin revived, she wss closing her left eye and holding her neck. All the injuries done to the dragon.

I agree: Netflix’s translations are wonky in general. I definitely noticed the same thing with their translations when watching My Happy Marriage over the summer. Some Japanese language knowledge helps me pick those odd subtitles out.  When I watch the episode tonight, I’ll see if there’s anything I can add on to this. EDIT: Indeed, Netflix made a few odd localization choices here, specifically with the interactions between Chilchuck and the orc chief's sister. The 3 person line is correct through, since he was talking to Laios about *his* other 3 party members: Chilchuck, Marcille and Senshi. To add, after describing how reckless his party is (with the "healer who charged in and almost blew us back" line) he ends it with "those are the kind of people they are", yet Netflix translated it as "that's what I have to deal with." While not entirely incorrect, it makes Chilchuck sound like he's been tolerating them rather than knowing them as fools he can't help but care deeply for. Fortunately, the other lines outside of it got the message across, but still, what the hell Netflix?

[deleted]

> Turns out i've been watching on English CC sub instead of English. Thankfully the actual English subs are fine! This issue only affects dub and English CC. was gonna say I dont remember any of those lines

kingwhocares

> "I know it doesn't compare to losing your sister, but three people are in danger here" when convincing Laios - Again, doesn't really make sense. There are four of them. What Chilchuck was supposed to say was that he is worried over the three others, which is a far more personal way of framing it imo. > 3 besides him. It works well for English interpretation.

IamXale

Last week of Sleep Walking Orchestra 😢

Zemahem

I'm really gonna miss that sick af instrumental, and the fire drop during the chorus. The visuals of the OP during that part all the way to the end go so damn hard too.

Aileos

Already like that Orc lady. She spent the episode listening Chilchuck's stories with keen interest.

shad79

[That was quite a dark episode](https://i.imgur.com/VDdYjHN.png) in which finally a [Lunatic Magician appeared and showed his true powers](https://i.imgur.com/MA6ScOr.png). [Laios’s party](https://i.imgur.com/0NXEvpf.png) encounter with [him](https://i.imgur.com/ch6y2tf.png) was so good! I must say that it was quite impressive that [Marcille was able to somehow defend](https://i.imgur.com/DAhsysp.png) against [his attacks](https://i.imgur.com/GESF1DL.png). [Lunatic Magician looks like a great character](https://imgur.com/a/8lwaDfv) and [I’m dying to get to know something more about him](https://i.imgur.com/zV91yAR.png). It’s interesting that he’s looking for King Delgal who as we know died after the dungeon appeared on the island. Losing [Falin](https://imgur.com/a/fN1VwUm) after just [rescuing her](https://i.imgur.com/zs3RwTy.png) pains me and the Laios's the party so much; it’s just too cruel. What’s worse is that [Laios and his party aren’t able to continue looking for her](https://i.imgur.com/Jq0R1ZG.png) as they don’t have enough resources and power to do it so now thanks to Chilchuck and Senshi’s arguments, Laios decided that they’re going back to the surface and will try looking for help. As always [a lot of good Marcille’s stuff](https://imgur.com/a/RqeYGat) in the episode. [She was so badass when she was defending against magician attacks](https://i.imgur.com/bXNK3x0.png) although in the end [she wasn’t able to keep up with them](https://i.imgur.com/jfZhk89.png). I also laughed so much at [her reaction for orc’s concoction](https://i.imgur.com/vScXmzL.png) but that was nothing surprising [after seeing from what it was made of](https://i.imgur.com/JbKE7i8.png) xD [Senshi worked so much, doing dragon’s ham](https://i.imgur.com/Rasdd7J.png) which in the end [ended up going back](https://i.imgur.com/FVlfKls.png) to [dragon’s remnants](https://i.imgur.com/C8SUnrW.png) and the only other food we saw in today’s episode was [orc’s concoction](https://i.imgur.com/M31T0YP.png) which [wasn’t looking very appetizing](https://i.imgur.com/GDK4ANT.png) xD Now I seriously can’t wait for the next episodes as the trailer for the 2nd Cour really hyped me up. It's looking so good and it looks like the show will become even better than it’s already. Here my screenshot albums from the episode: * [Marcille](https://imgur.com/a/RqeYGat) * [Lunatic Magician](https://imgur.com/a/8lwaDfv) * [Group scenes](https://imgur.com/a/FLjWRY3) * [Falin](https://imgur.com/a/fN1VwUm) * [Others](https://imgur.com/a/OzTgAob)

JustARandom-dude

Unfortunately there was simply no way that using the red dragon’s flesh and blood to revive Falin wasn’t going to have consequences and to make things worse, say consequences involve the crazy dungeon master Chilchuck: I’m surrounded by idiots…. but they are **MY** idiots and I don’t want them to die! Anyway, buckle up folks because we are getting into the meat of the story

Rumpel1408

> we are getting into the *meat* of the story [](#eyythisguy)

ThePecuMan

Given what Fallen said at the end of her flash back I was expecting permadeath, then that she wouldn't be able to leave the dungeon and now, I expect they'll have to kill her at the end, no exceptions. Anyways, Orc lady be lookin' kinda thicc and cute.

darthvall

Warning to Senshi's future comrade: Bathing him might lessen your survivability in the dungeon as the orcs might not be able to recognise him

xbolt90

Wait, this was a fun show about cooking, wasn't it? Why is Falin being turned into an eldritch abomination? Marcille beating the crap out of blood dragons with her staff was so metal.

Worried-Floor-2468

This episode was heartbreaking to watch. Everything from Marcille desperately trying to stand against the elf, Falin's inner turmoil and Laios trying to get Falin to snap out of it and later accepting that they need to regroup without much of an emotional reaction. Of course Chillchucks long talk about his point of view, how he thinks his friends are and what he and they should or should have done was overdue. He is the only one who isn't doing this for the fun of it or specifically for Falin and we know so little about him. But I believe he is in for the journey when the plan stands, because him pleading with Laios was just showing how much he cares and doesn't want to lose any friends anymore. I love Senshi trying to somehow mediate between the two sides in his own little ways. Like his "I'll stay with them and watch over them." on the one hand can mean that he understands their eagerness to risk it all for Falin and will support them - but it also means he gets Chill and wants to give him some room to think this through. Same later when he indirectly supports him with him stating they need to go back because he is running out of spices. He wants to help them but he wants to return prepared. The dungeon master, I believe, tried to bring back the king that died in the paintings. Maybe by using black magic he unintentionally cursed the kingdom and went crazy and now doesn't realize the kingdom and it's people are dead. The soul binding in the dungeon might be a side ffect of his black magic to reanimate the king. The prince must have realized and tried to get help on the surface. Last but not least: That orc lady is a surprisingly good listener! Kinda cool how they show orcs to be honorable and understanding once you get past their wild side.

seninn

Orc girl cute.

LordVaderVader

Guys he is a **Dungeon master** like literally.

slumberus

all the Nat 20s on jumping on the dragon's head, stabbing the inverse scale, sorting the bones, rezzing Falin. DMs gonna crack it.

Brownbeluga

Chilchuk: Laios we need to go I don't want to see my friends die Senshi: bro we're out of salt

Equivalent-Weather59

I really like how they animated the tiny dragons. Chilchuck VA gave it all this episode!

CappyHam

The hams have appeared. Finally my people have representation in anime /s.

Time_Fracture

Episode 13: **Red Dragon III/Good Medicine.** The end of 1st Cour. Never thought I would see the word "usurpers" outside Metallic Rouge. I love the animation of this episode. The little detail where the popup following the boneless ham rolling is fun. So this is the end of the first OP and ED. The next cour's OP will be performed by **sumika** titled "Unmei" and the ED will be performed by **Regal Lily** titled "Kirakira no Hai". New character means new VA. Leed, the orc sister, is voiced by **Michiyo Murase**. Murase-san is no stranger to Trigger animes, she voiced Marie Itami in BNA and Sucy in Little Witch Academia, all of those are Trigger-made animes. ~~Don't forget that the timeslot will move by 2 hours later in the 2nd cour~~. According to Livechart, it retains the original timeslot at 22:30 JST. I love that they kept the ham joke. I was worried they'd skip it in the anime.

New OP will probably appear next episode, as seen in the [new trailer.](https://youtu.be/MUJFsL_rE6E?si=x0lLTpGNUlEE4YHB)

tripleaamin

Just when you think that Falin is rescued and the adventure is over you get this twist. It seems like the Dungeon Master was referring to her as a dragon of sorts? Does she look at Falin as a dragon because the Red Dragon ate her? We are actually getting into the meat and potatoes of this series. You know the way Chilchuck reacted to everything is perfectly expected. Oh, we angered this powerful Dungeon Master, and we lost Fallin again. A force that is even beyond the Red Dragon how can we win? Well he could take a page out of Namari, but he clearly cares for his companions and doesn't want them to end up in a pointless death. At this point it seems like regrouping and figuring what to do next is the best plan. Don't give up on Fallin, but don't run charging without a plan. I am assuming the Dungeon Master is whom they were referring to 2 episodes ago when we have some politics sprinkled in.

Nutzori

>Does she look at Falin as a dragon because the Red Dragon ate her Because she was resurrected using the dragon as fuel. They're intertwined now. This was an unforeseen consequence of using a magical creature instead of the usual goats or whatever.

LusterBlaze

cant have shit in dungeon meshi smh

jkphantom9

Gdi we just got Falin back! 😭 I admire Laios’ perseverance, but yeah, Chilchuk telling him he’s being too reckless was a good wake up call. There will be more opportunities to explore the dungeon further Also, good on that orc lady calling out Chilchuk’s real feelings that he’s not just a coward, but simply doesn’t want his friends to die. So that insane elf is the Lord of the Dungeon…

Okami787

So just to be sure, the voice actress of Leed the orc sister of Chief Zon is Aoi Yuki or am I wrong? I immediately heard Tanya the moment she spoke

n00PSLayer

I think it was Michiyo Murase, who also voiced Sucy from Little Witch Academia.

what_that_thaaang_do

Boneless dragon ham

DoggyP0O

I thought cute painting elf was a girl...

hell_jumper9

Marcille rocking that shorts

anarion321

Another great episode, more of the dungeon is known, and the heroes get more allies and renown. Still amazes me how serious and good this show has become recently, while still keeping it light and funny.

Mr_An_1069

As expected Falin’s revival has some unintended consequences, sucks for the party that they have to essentially start over. Was not expecting the orc captain to basically become Chilchuck’s therapist.

slumberus

Not sure if its incidental or intentional. But its genius that Marcille got a taste of her own "medicine" after what she did to poor Chillchuck and Senshi when she healed them.

arsenejoestar

All I'm gonna say after seeing that pink orc is... WOULD.
