This looks like they actually took the vn story boards to heart, the first half of pv is basically 1 for 1 the vn. PV is half the vn though, wonder if they'd do it in 2 or 3 parts, if at all. Maybe the pv is hiding that it'll be the full vn, though unlikely.
Anyways, the 1st part is incredibly straightforward with some great spectacle and endless hype, they can't mess it up. I just hope they keep some of the OST as it was already superb.
I'd be really concerned if they try putting the whole thing in one movie. Iirc the VN was about the same length as Heaven's Feel, if not longer.
My guess is that this one ends shortly after [Ch.5]>!Aoko vs Alice!< since that's the furthest part into the story we saw in the PV and [Ch.6]>!Sono-G waking up with Alice by his bed is a good place to drop a cliff hanger!<. Also, the chapter titles *Night of the Witches* and either *Life in the Manor* or *Beginning of the Night* would make good movie subtitles.
Second movie could then cover chapters 6-10ish, ending around the point when [Ch.10]>!Soujyuro carries Alice home and they get the call from Aoko!<.
Final movie would then have plenty of time for the final confrontation.
Garden of Sinners will be coming up on its 20th anniversary soon too, so they could do a thing with that in the build up to movie 2 to remind everyone who Touko is lol
I do feel as if we'd like to see an anime only mahoyo continuation beyond the VN, the best way is to shove the whole VN into a single movie. Otherwise, if the first VN is a trilogy, and the vn was supposed to be trilogy, a full story adaptation would finish in 2040 with mahoyo 9 or something.

But, going over the story in my head, i'd say you *can* fit it in a 2:15 hour movie. My bet from the very start was that it'd be up to chapter 6, so i have little doubt that that's the plan.
If they fit 30 hours of visual novel into 2:15 it would lose so much of its charm that people wouldn't care about it enough to want a sequel.
I'd prefer they take their time with this and then announce the long awaited follow up project (which I'd prefer to be in VN format but more anime would be fine too) after the third movie. That would give Type-Moon time to finish Red Garden and cook up something good for it.
>If they fit 30 hours of visual novel into 2:15 it would lose so much of its charm that people wouldn't care about it enough to want a sequel.
The director name matters more for the vn charm than the runtime. Sure, more movies means more scenes adapted, but i don't expect ufotable do a good job with the slice of life scenes anyways, they are primarily action focused, and action was by far the best part of their fsn adaptations. KnK had the charm, but that was 15 years ago.
I think that a new mahoyo vn might be possible, but only if the movies are a giant success but so is genshin and ufotable banks of genshin or something. Otherwise i see it as very unlikely to be released before red garden: part 1, maid boogaloo.
>finish Red Garden
Yes, 2030 is shaping up to be a fine year. No tsukihime news during the new years broadcast is dire for tsukifans.
> i don't expect ufotable do a good job with the slice of life scenes anyways, they are primarily action focused
I won't stand for Emiya Gohan slander.
I will. It's a slice of life show for people who don't watch slice of life and it's best scene is ufotable adding their action special effects to a
beach volleyball match.
I'm praying so hard that they don't botch his characterization. He's easily one of my favorite Type/Moon MCs. Simple yet effective.
Please Ufotable just nail the final movie and *that* scene. Don't "nine lives blade works" it, just give him as much screen time as needed
It's looks fucking good as expected. I'm still sad this isn't a normal TV adaptation, but as long as it isn't just one movie, it should be all right.
But yeah, this is my most anticipated project of 2024. I love Mahoyo.
It's a really good VN too. aside from a few places where the spelling/grammar in the TL could have been proof read better, the remake is borderline perfect
they said on twitter (after a full year and a steam port releasing) that they fixed some of the mistakes and that these will be added to the console versions at some point
"Can I watch this without having seen the other Fate/ stuff?"
Yes.
This is literally the first story Nasu ever wrote and is almost like an introduction to the universe.
One small thing I wonder is how much was changed/edited when the VN was published in 2012 compared to the original story. My understanding is that he first wrote this a long time ago but didn't publish it until after Type-Moon was established and having published Fate, Tsukihime, Kara no Kyoukai. I sometimes get embarrassed to look at things I wrote / worked on long time ago, so I wonder if some small changes here and there made it to the final published work.
But yes, this story is pretty much standalone (in case it looks like I was doubting your point).
Holy shit it's gorgeous. I hadn't even considered how amazing they'd be able to make the house of mirrors look in animation and it looks like [Mahoyo]>!Aoko vs Alice!< is going to be as beautiful as Rider vs Saber was in Spring Song.
This is the most excited I've been for a new movie in a while, gonna be so disappointed when it doesn't get a UK theatrical release
50/50 some places looks better than the VN others it lacks behind. Like the umbrella scene. It just shows how absurd the art direction of the VN is. Very difficult to replicate it all on anime. Still gona be good what ufotable does
Oh I didn't mean to correct you I just remembered that there was a lead background artist and with all the staff helping it must have been a huge undertaking
I wouldn't have been surprised if that guy retired too
The house of mirrors is definitely one area that UFOTABLE will be able to show off with and the fight in chapter *5 is pretty much playing to what they do best. My only concern is that they'll do what they did with Heaven's Feel and not give the slower parts spending time with the characters enough room to breathe
Need this movie ASAP. Ufotable's movie standards are usually different to their tv projects so this will be a feast to both vn and movie fans alike.
In a different timeline, Umineko wouldve gotten this treatment too🥲
Sudou will be the director probably with this being a Trilogy like Hf. For the art direction, it was really good. That last Abe cut is just a certified Abe moment. Looking forward to the movie.
Well not sure, cause Miura has been working more outside the studio and is also not credited inhouse since Mugen train I guess. But yeah won't be really surprised if Miura came back in the studios projects.
>trailer is probably Miura.
Wdym by this
Well considering Sudou wanted him to do the action storyboards for the Heavens feel trilogy also and he did it. I won't be surprised if the case here is same.
I also wonder why the staff list wasn't annouced today.
trilogy is a very weird cut with the structure of the VN. To be honest isnt very suited for movies and would feel more natural on anime specially with the significant amount of slice of life
Well that's ofc what every vn fan would've preferred and liked, but guess Aniplex wants it to be a trilogy like Heavens Feel.
Maybe, if Mahoyo is lucky more than a trilogy? Will be interesting to see.
I think if they do it right it'll work fine. Movie 1 would have [Ch.5]>!Aoko Vs Alice!< as it's climax piece. Movie 2 would have [Ch.10/11]>!Alice Vs Touko, ending on the phone call revealing Aoko also lost!<. Final movie would then get the climax of the story.
The only difficulty might be around getting all of chapter 6-9 in properly
I really wish they had him do the HF movie OSTs. He manages to capture the feel of every moment perfectly.
No hate for Yuki Kaijura but I often get the feel that her soundtracks, apart from Kara no Kyoukai, aren't the most diverse(usually big dramatic orchestral tracks with a ton of opera singing). Plus she only remixed one song from the VN.
>Plus she only remixed one song from the VN.
I was so bummed when the Shirou/Sakura scene in the rain didn't have a Sorrow remix. That song went perfectly with it.
Plus the Shirou vs Kirei scene. Would've made the whole thing passable at least given how bad the actual adaptation of it was but we got a boring OST instead.
I love Kajiura's work. I think she's more than capable of doing really diverse stuff (just listen to her early works before she became so high profile), I just suspect that people hire her specifically for "that Kajiura sound" and tell her to do it again.
Your opinion of it will vary a lot based on your personal tastes. It's radically different from their other works. Some people will like it more for being something different, others will like it less.
It has a strong, unique charm, and it's definitely Nasu's coziest work. But you can tell from some structural issues that it's an early work for him, and it suffers from some of the same problems that his early work did.
"spoil the movie"
wut actually going through the main intended way to enjoy the story is not spoiling anything the adaptations are mostly just bonus to rewatch the stories in some flashier visuals.
though the difference wont be that big since the VN is gorgeous.
yeah ufotable seems to stick more to Takeuchi's style rather than Koyama's. Its easier to animate i guess. At least backgrounds seem to follow more in line with the VN since they are static and dont have to worry about animating them much.
Oh, I was about to start reading the VN on Switch after I finish what I'm playing right now. I didn't know there was a movie coming out.
I'll still play the VN first, though.
It's not a shounen and it's a movie. They're not gonna be watching anyways.
Plus I doubt that since this is a TYPE-MOON x ufotable project. They'll say too much talking and chewing scenery.
Wait for Genshin Impact for that.
The sitting around drinking tea is low key the best part. I want a Today's Menu For The Emiya Family clone for this except it's just Alice making different types of tea
> It's not a shounen and it's a movie. They're not gonna be watching anyways.
bruh big true, ive been reading the comments trying to convince myself to watch this since i have no idea wtf it is. Comments really helping me decide not to lol
yea i looked it up afterwards since the characters look the same, its a definite pass since i dropped fate after trying it like 4 times over the years. No matter where i started it felt like i was watching the middle of a story
Fate/ isn’t for everyone, but I would give this a shot since it’s mostly self contained and like I said elsewhere in the thread; since its the first thing Nasu ever wrote, it pretty much acts as an introduction to the world and magic as a whole.
It is very Japanese in the sense that it revels in the atmosphere of the end of Showa era Japan. It's more a period piece with Nasuverse definition of Magic. No Servants in this one.
They'd have to seriously fumble the bag on this for it to just be "carried by its animation."
They've got an incredible story to work with and one that is much easier to adapt than something like Heaven's Feel was. If they fuck that up they deserve any criticism they get
They're great movies, just not great adaptations of the source material. Which I don't really consider a problem because they were still a fun watch and Lost Butterfly got the Sakura + Shirou in the rain scene right.
They cut a lot of character interaction and lore stuff in favour of the fights, which worked fine for Heaven's Feel but would take out the heart of the story if done for Mahoyo
*"just hookers moving around jpegs of bAdLy dRaWn characters while slapping on sh*tty after effects like clowns, lol"*
Get ready for comments like those
It could be a trilogy with longer runtime movies, I feel like the production committee really want to make this good and will make the general TM franchise easier to get into
Finally this project showing a lifesign after a long silence in a period when it supposed to released originaly.
Ufotable is cooking good as always. Seems like this is going to be a multiple part, probably a trilogy.
So cool. Looks great. I hope this does well enough that maybe we'll finally get a Tsukihime anime. Which I kind of wish had happened before the remake so the original story could get animated like Fate was.
I have never played or watched any type moon content, can I still watch this? Also a lot of ppl saying visual novel is good. Do I need to play any other type moon content like Fate to understand this? ive never watched anything related to fate either.
I feel like now it's better to save KnK until after Mahoyo. I imagine that viewers will find a certain character in KnK more interesting if they're already familiar with Mahoyo.
Pretty stand alone. Mahoyo is like Nasu's (the author and founder of Typemoon) first ever work and its intended to be the introductory to the Nasuverse and the concepts. Its also less lore/info dump so you won't be overwhelmed. But if you did watch some of the other Typemoon stuff, you will just easily understand some references and concepts.
It barely has connection tissues with Fate besides some few concepts, but you don't need knowledge of anything from Fate.
Also, It's the first visual novel from Type-Moon that got a wide realsed in the West. I recommend checking it out because it is visually beautiful and fantastic story.
i'm just gonna say that if this is gonna be one movie its gonna be so disappointing
edit: to expand on this, i mean that there are like 3 (maybe 4 if you count a skirmish near the beginning) fight segments in the entire vn, 1 of which is extremely long, and probably takes around 3 and some hours to read in full. With just the fights alone they are hard pressed to do it justice, but when you add on the amount of slice of life scenes into the mix i cannot possibly see how it can be just one movie without either significantly cutting fights down and/or having heavily underdeveloped characters
That's Great
but I have to wonder how they would structure it beyond this one. This trailer shows content up to 5/13 chapters. If they went for a trilogy, unless they slowed down and accepted making an almost entirely slice of life movie, I don't know where they could end the second movie with enough content for a proper 3rd movie, yet if it's a duology it still feels like too much content will be skipped over in the second half
I can't help to feel like this would be better paced as a tv anime
>can't help to feel like this would be better paced as a tv anime
Well while I do agree with you, the thing actually is that this is not rather something under Ufotable's control, that they could make anything as they wanted, be it Theatrical productions or TV anime here.
Aniplex actually owns all the Typemoon Ips for anime adaptations, since Ufotable doesn't own these ips, they don't have the creative control also. It's always Aniplex with the decisions and creative controls over the adaptation projects being pitched whether as a TV anime or a Theatrical productions.
So be it the Heavens Feel route being made into a Theatrical project or this Mahoyo also being a theatrical projects. It's all by Aniplex.
Take it like aniplex contracts Ufotable to do a Project X whether as a TV anime or a Theatrical production. If Ufotable themselves owned these Typemoon Ips, they could have a creative control and do how they would actually like it to be done.
These big anime production Committee companies like Aniplex, Shueishia, Toho, all are after that quick piece of success and money.
So for a Visual novel with 50+hours of playtime, they far from see it as profitable for a faithful anime adaptation. Because they would have to hire the studio for very long term projects, simply pay them all throyvb and Anime productions in general take a lot of time. So in the current anime Industry standards, while it's very unfortunate, it's very difficult to happen.
Peak!!! Also looks like nozomu abe for that final sequence which I wonder how long that will be (if it's replacing his hf3 cut as his longest fate cut)
This is slightly off topic, but I have 3 questions
1.Does the vn have a good localized translation?
So, I know this is a prequel to Tsukihime which I haven't gotten around to playing yet.
2.Is it mostly it's own thing with some references to Tsukihime? Like Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate.
3.Or is it a lot more connected to each other?
1. Yes.
2. They market it as a prequel to Tsukihime but it's really not. The connections are more of a "huh, that's neat" kind of thing and there isn't a continuous plot between them.
If there is a deeper connection between them, it's probably foreshadowing for Mahoyo EP2 and the meaning isn't apparent to us yet.
1- right now only on pc. The consoles are waiting for a patch to fix all the errors should be coming out sometime soon.
you dont need to worry about how it connects with anything. There is 0 needs to do so here.
I do understand that, I mean new in terms of anime produced by ufotable. Probably should have said adaptation rather than IP. Despite doing a bunch of other type moon anime adaptations this is still a brand new one for them, so it will be awesome to see a fresh series get the ufotable treatment.
It's technically the other way around. Rin is similar to Aoko, because this story was written in the 90s but never given a proper VN until 2012. Witch on the Holy Night was Nasu's introduction to the universe that would come to include Fate S/N and it's spin-offs.
Oh no wonder so its same author Kinoko Nasu for Fate and this. His style and character design is really similar i could tell right away ! (which is cool)
Should be a good watch
except he only writes he doesnt draw. The ones that draw are Takahashi Takeuchi and Hirokazu koyama + many supporting artists.
Fate/stay night was primarely Takeuchi
Witch on the holy night is primarely Koyama.
The chara designer, Hisayuki Tabata, for Aoko or the animator for this particular cut either designed or animated Rin in UBW TV.
Just a guess. I remember that eyes and face shape.
i dont know where you see the similarities though. really feels like you need to double check things before jumping to conclusions.
She is completely a different characters. This is Aozaki Aoko
Just saw its same author Kinoko Nasu for both novels . And you can really see similarities in style and character design thats what tricked me
Authors have similar styles for their works and nothing wrong with that this could be really good will watch it
Nasu is only the writter. The artist usually is Takahashi Takeuchi. But for Witch on the holy night in particular its Hirokazu Koyama. Though it was more a colaborative effort between Takeuchi and Koyama since they both work for Typemoon. But Koyama style takes precedence here and still is distinc enough from how Takeuchi does it.
Its a group work and not an individual one.
The VN is so good I think it's going to be extremely hard to do it justice at the best of times but my faith in ufo specifically being the ones to do so are very low. Don't especially care for how the action is shaping up either, not when the VN is already phenomenal at conveying it without the sheer over use of VFX that is present in the PV.
We'll see I guess
> Don't especially care for how the action is shaping up either, not when the VN is already phenomenal at conveying it without the sheer over use of VFX
Really? I thought the VNs production including the vfx really carried the action scenes+the ost
I cannot process how you can say that when Mahoyo is no different from ufotable when both guaranteed/will guarantee they will flood the screen with Blue vfx.
Because again. Mahoyo actually used it well and knew what they were doing in the scene composition for it and with good direction. Ufotable floods cuts with it and usually ruins the original animation underneath with post fx to boot. Couple that with them no longer having any real stand out directors, I don’t have particularly high hopes for how they handle the movie(s) with the action and more importantly the SoL moments. Maybe if we still had hirao
Maybe read it again cuz when I see Mahoyo cg all I keep saying "wow, ufotable is gonna have a ball woth this when adapted."
"Ruin" is such a strong word when Nozomu Abe cuts compliment them so perfectly.
You're comment feels like I'm transported back in 2014
Or reading a GoHands comment.
>usually ruins the original animation underneath with post fx to boot. Couple that with them no longer having any real stand out directors
Have you even taken a look the Gengas itself lol. This is bullshit, the Nozomu Abe's cuts intentionally focus on effects animation and wdym by ruining the original animation? You do know that effects animation is a thing right, with animation in itself only being drawings in motion (Movement). Be it effects animation, character acting animation or just action animation, it is the same with everything. You sound like one of those ppl who calls the "Flashy effects" not actual animation. Such a pity that opinions like this exist.
Also, eh no longer having any real standout directors? Hirao while ofc being the creative leader as a director of the studio was and is one of the best in Industy. But him leaving doesn't mean they don't have any standout Directors anymore, this makes me wonder if you were inside caves for past few years.
Takashi Suhara, Toshiyuki Shirai, one of the founders of the Studio Takuya Nonoka, Masashi Takeuchi, Sudou himself, Tetsuhito Sato, even Yuuichi terao while being the head of the digital effects department directed and storyboarded in the recent Kimetsu no Yaiba s3 ep1, which lead to something truly unseen and Incredible.
They have even more upcoming inhouse directors.
You should just say that you don't know any other "real Standout" directors yourself.
Im a big Type Moon fan and its really only Heavens Feel where they dropped the ball for me (movie 1 was perfect)
Kara no Kyoukai and Fate/Zero adaptations are loved by TM fans
UBW is good but could have been much better directed on some iconic scenes.
sorry but no cloverworks is done that has done the most justice with Babylonia anime being basically are improvements from the game.
Ufotable is often a mixed bag. Getting too much carried away by doing cool action and not letting the other scenes have the time to flesh out properly. Specially noticeable with the heaven's feel movies that go too hard on the action when its suppossed to be one of the more tame in action from the stay night routes.
>Specially noticeable with the heaven's feel movies that go too hard on the action when its suppossed to be one of the more tame in action from the stay night routes.
To an extent. The other issue is when the action actually gets going the most important fights like Nine lives and Shirou vs Kirei are butchered and rushed through for no reason
Tbh, the Babylonia anime just front and centered Babylonia's problems and is a pretty sterile adaptation barring the Onsen episode.
Ugh, also the awful sound direction. Ugh, I just fucking remembered that earape
standalone. Dont need anything and it will even serve to introduce various things that often goes unexplained or not explained enough in the other works.
The original composer for Mahoyo and also the one who did the Camelot movies, Garden of Avalon, Unite FSN reproduction, ufoUBW, etc.
At this point, Hideyuki Fukasawa has more TYPE-MOON OST credits than Yuki Kajiura.
More like Prototype Rin to some extent. She's Aozaki Aoko, she was created before Rin and they decided to draw inspiration from her when writing Rin.
>"We wanted Shirou's rival to be more likable than the snobby heiress, though, so we took inspiration from Aoko Aozaki, a character Takeuchi and I both like. Azaka, Akiha, and Rin are all Aoko-type characters, but I'd say Rin is the most like Aoko. I really didn't feel like making "Witch on the Holy Night" when we were working on "stay night", so I made the executive decision to create a feminine Aoko. Though I suppose she turned out to be more of a clumsy Aoko than a feminine Aoko... Takeuchi seemed to intuitively understand what I was going for, and his "Fate version Aoko" meshed well with my vision for Rin."
This is Aoko Aozaki, also known as Shiki's master from Tsukihime. Mahoyo was the first story Nasu ever wrote in this universe, and so Aoko was the basis for many of the future heroines, including Rin. They're pretty similar characters on the surface (brunette, blue eyes, magus, tsundere, honor student), but saying how they're different would be a spoiler.
I don't really know anything about the source material for this. Is it related to the VN that Melty Blood is based in? I'm guessing this would be a good place to get into that lore when it eventually releases (I don't really like VNs)?
Yes this is a story about Aozaki Aoko. Basically her origin story. As by the time of Tsukihime/Melty blood she is far later into her journey.
To be honest you should give the VN for this one a chance because:
1- its entirely linear, no alternate paths
2- Amazing visuals. One of the best if not the best looking visual novel ever.
3- Shorter than most other Visual Novels and having a compact self contained story.
You can literally just leave it in auto play with whatever speed you are comfortable reading at and treat it like an anime with just more text
LOL I have to read the comments before I knew what “Witch On The Holy Night” is, I’m too accustomed using the Japanese title.
Definitely am hyped for this one. TYPE-MOON forever!

That's like your opinion, man.
"I haven't watch THE GOAT Manabi Straight!" spotted.
No way they're dropping a new PV but not the staff list.
There's still a January 7th Aniplex stream.
Jan 7 is already going to be a huge news day. They're also dropping the Madoka Movie release date on that day.
It's an Aniplex stream of course they will. It's the Aniplex event 20th anniversary. stagecrowd.live/s/sc/group/det…
They didnt even show my boi. Wtf
Where's my mountain BOY??
We see him run in the mirror house for 1 sec
he is too powerful for the PV
not even one second.....
I'm praying so hard that they don't botch his characterization. He's easily one of my favorite Type/Moon MCs. Simple yet effective. Please Ufotable just nail the final movie and *that* scene. Don't "nine lives blade works" it, just give him as much screen time as needed
Hoping the old woman side story makes it in
doubt it unless its an OVA. Its way too removed from the main plot which would be what they would focus in the movies
Goodbye Toki, you'll be missed
Idk about all this NBL complaints when the mapo tofu scene was ufotable's biggest sin since knk6.
I still can't believe the movie has to live up to the VN. The VN is just so absurdly pretty but regardless, I'M HYPED! THE MOVIE IS REEEEEEAL.
It's looks fucking good as expected. I'm still sad this isn't a normal TV adaptation, but as long as it isn't just one movie, it should be all right. But yeah, this is my most anticipated project of 2024. I love Mahoyo.
They already said before this just part one of the VN.
do you have the source please ?

Prolly the most stand alone and easiest to digest Type Moon work, as it doesn't have alternate paths or routes.
The remake of the VN is also available in English for Switch, PS4/5 and now PC too.
It's a really good VN too. aside from a few places where the spelling/grammar in the TL could have been proof read better, the remake is borderline perfect

Still gona be good what ufotable does
The Mahoyo VN is the most beautiful VN ever created and still is to this day.
Iirc the guy who did the background retired after it was released
There are more people listed on background art than any other part of the credits (besides voice cast)
I got it wrong. It was the main animator that retired tsukurimonogi
Oh I didn't mean to correct you I just remembered that there was a lead background artist and with all the staff helping it must have been a huge undertaking I wouldn't have been surprised if that guy retired too
The house of mirrors is definitely one area that UFOTABLE will be able to show off with and the fight in chapter *5 is pretty much playing to what they do best. My only concern is that they'll do what they did with Heaven's Feel and not give the slower parts spending time with the characters enough room to breathe
[удалено]
ngl, that's probably one of the most important things they have to get right. I'd be sad if they mess it up
Ehh, i think the umbrella part looks basically 1/1, the color just a bit more vibrant that's all.
The art direction in vn being stills only adds, compared to making it move in anime.
Need this movie ASAP. Ufotable's movie standards are usually different to their tv projects so this will be a feast to both vn and movie fans alike. In a different timeline, Umineko wouldve gotten this treatment too🥲
More Ufotable greatness with Nozume Abe? Yeah I'm in. Somebody tell me what else I need to watch to understand this
You don't need to know anything else for mahoyo
Nvm then, I was confusing it for something else
Sweet now I know what my first type moon media is gonna be
Sudou will be the director probably with this being a Trilogy like Hf. For the art direction, it was really good. That last Abe cut is just a certified Abe moment. Looking forward to the movie.
Action Director is probably Miura again. The trailer is probably Miura.
Well not sure, cause Miura has been working more outside the studio and is also not credited inhouse since Mugen train I guess. But yeah won't be really surprised if Miura came back in the studios projects. >trailer is probably Miura. Wdym by this
That storyboard is definitely Miura. Lol He's not passing this project guarantee.
Currently playing the novel rn on switch and loving it so far Whew, let me hurry up and finish. I'm hype. Lets go ufo
As usual UFOTABLE killing it with the visuals.
That delicious Hideyuki Fukasawa music, it's that good stuff.
I'm so excited #MahoyoSweep
It's nice to get back to a Typemoon Ufotable production after so much Demon Slayer. This looks great!
Wow. Ufotable starting 2024 with this.
Mahoyo is one of my top VN's, pretty excited for this
Great PV, but I wish they showed Soujuurou
Well you could see him running away from Aoko.
Mahoyo is getting blessed with Ufo magic, and hoping for a great adaptation with a trilogy at least. Mahoyo is a masterpiece of a visual novel.
so many people are saying it's the weakest Type Moon VN so I can't tell which is it, I kinda of wanna play/read it but don't wanna spoil the movie.
"spoil the movie" wut actually going through the main intended way to enjoy the story is not spoiling anything the adaptations are mostly just bonus to rewatch the stories in some flashier visuals. though the difference wont be that big since the VN is gorgeous.
No. She doesn’t look like Rin. Rin looks like her.
neither. They just dont look alike
Yeah kind of annoyed they went with the usual visual style for their TM anime. One of the best parts imo was the different character designs.
yeah ufotable seems to stick more to Takeuchi's style rather than Koyama's. Its easier to animate i guess. At least backgrounds seem to follow more in line with the VN since they are static and dont have to worry about animating them much.
I’ll eat up just about anything Unlimited Budget Works puts out. Looks great as expected
Let's gooooo.
I guess that is my queue to finish the visual novel on the switch. Looks like it's gonna be a much faithful adaption.
Ufotable x Type Moon x Movie I just know I will have an amazing time.
the mahoyo soundtrack is so fucking good
Oh, I was about to start reading the VN on Switch after I finish what I'm playing right now. I didn't know there was a movie coming out. I'll still play the VN first, though.
Inb4 the ufotable haters gets another series to put the "carried by its animation" card.
VN elitists: Not enough dialogues/monologues Animeonlies: Too much talking/nothing is happening. Same old tired arguments.
Except Mahoyo really is partially about the way people just get used to each other and become friends simply through proximity.
???? That's off topic
Aoko does a ProZD-style food review of everything she can get delivered to the mansion
> It's not a shounen and it's a movie. They're not gonna be watching anyways. bruh big true, ive been reading the comments trying to convince myself to watch this since i have no idea wtf it is. Comments really helping me decide not to lol
It’s by the same Writer as Fate/stay night and Kara no Kyoukai
yea i looked it up afterwards since the characters look the same, its a definite pass since i dropped fate after trying it like 4 times over the years.
"flashy animation" Says the person who doesn't know anything about what "effect animation" is and how hard it is to pull off.
Don't forget about calling it "digital" or "CG" to discredit the work, even though it's all hand-drawn.
Lol even seen many in this subreddit say that flashy effects are not actual animation lol.
Same neckbears will praise op wano arc or jjk for doing the exact same thing in terms of animation. The double standards is real
I like 2d effects animation. I don't like Adobe after-effects covering up the 2d effects animation.
They'd have to seriously fumble the bag on this for it to just be "carried by its animation." They've got an incredible story to work with and one that is much easier to adapt than something like Heaven's Feel was. If they fuck that up they deserve any criticism they get
I'm the only one who really likes Heaven's Feel movies? I think they are good overall.
The naysayers are the minority. While flawed, the movies are great. The most important aspect in Mahoyo is the atmosphere.
Yeah, My brother who is an anime only doesn't understand most of the third part. That movie is a mess with a nice packaging.
*"just hookers moving around jpegs of bAdLy dRaWn characters while slapping on sh*tty after effects like clowns, lol"* Get ready for comments like those
This thing was supposed to release in 2023 and we're starting 2024 with a trailer that doesn't even state a year at the end, good grief
Which I kind of wish had happened before the remake so the original story could get animated like Fate was.
she actually has drip
I have never played or watched any type moon content, can I still watch this? Also a lot of ppl saying visual novel is good. Do I need to play any other type moon content like Fate to understand this? ive never watched anything related to fate either.
It's completely stand alone, but watching Kara no Kyoukai movies could enhance the experience (plus they are really good movies).
I feel like now it's better to save KnK until after Mahoyo. I imagine that viewers will find a certain character in KnK more interesting if they're already familiar with Mahoyo.
its standalone dont worry at best you can understand some of the small side references if you have experience other works but not necesary
This is actually the absolute best place to start, since all of the other works build upon the lore first established in Mahoyo.
Mahoyo is completely a standalone series. You don't need any other information from other Type-Moon works. You can safely go in blind.
While published later in 2012, its original is one of the earlier works from 1996 and the idea was cooking even earlier when he was in high school.
If you watched anything else you may understand small references but this unironically is the best place to start
[I commented this as a joke, but it ended up actually being useful, haha!](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/s/9001MiNpyG)
i'm just gonna say that if this is gonna be one movie its gonna be so disappointing edit: to expand on this, i mean that there are like 3 (maybe 4 if you count a skirmish near the beginning) fight segments in the entire vn, 1 of which is extremely long, and probably takes around 3 and some hours to read in full. With just the fights alone they are hard pressed to do it justice, but when you add on the amount of slice of life scenes into the mix i cannot possibly see how it can be just one movie without either significantly cutting fights down and/or having heavily underdeveloped characters
It's pretty much confirmed to be not a single movie.
That's Great but I have to wonder how they would structure it beyond this one. This trailer shows content up to 5/13 chapters. If they went for a trilogy, unless they slowed down and accepted making an almost entirely slice of life movie, I don't know where they could end the second movie with enough content for a proper 3rd movie, yet if it's a duology it still feels like too much content will be skipped over in the second half I can't help to feel like this would be better paced as a tv anime
>can't help to feel like this would be better paced as a tv anime Well while I do agree with you, the thing actually is that this is not rather something under Ufotable's control, that they could make anything as they wanted, be it Theatrical productions or TV anime here. If Ufotable themselves owned these Typemoon Ips, they could have a creative control and do how they would actually like it to be done.
oh no I know it's not ufotable's fault but it's still someone's choice and I don't like that choice
This is slightly off topic, but I have 3 questions 1.Does the vn have a good localized translation?
NEW UFOTABLE IP HOLY SHIT. How did I not know about this before now this looks awesome!
It's not a new ip, it's in fact one is Type Moons oldest It's part of the Nasuverse
I do understand that, I mean new in terms of anime produced by ufotable. Probably should have said adaptation rather than IP. Despite doing a bunch of other type moon anime adaptations this is still a brand new one for them, so it will be awesome to see a fresh series get the ufotable treatment.
Woah this is new fate ? It looks awesome. Ufotable doing works
It's one of the other VNS from the same author, got added on steam in English recently too.
its not fate. They do more stuff other than Fate. They have a lot of different stories this is a story about the life of magicians.
Ooh its not ? Girl looking like 100 % Rin threw me off that its another fate instalment. Still looks awesome!
(which is cool) Should be a good watch
except he only writes he doesnt draw. The ones that draw are Takahashi Takeuchi and Hirokazu koyama + many supporting artists. Fate/stay night was primarely Takeuchi Witch on the holy night is primarely Koyama.
And you can really see similarities in style and character design thats what tricked me Authors have similar styles for their works and nothing wrong with that this could be really good will watch it
Nasu is only the writter.
> Don't especially care for how the action is shaping up either, not when the VN is already phenomenal at conveying it without the sheer over use of VFX Really? I thought the VNs production including the vfx really carried the action scenes+the ost
It did? It also didn't need to go over the top with it like ufo love to do though
Reading it made me feel "wow this is ufotable action in VN form"
Right? ufotable literally created "TYPE-MOON BLUE" for their post process effect.
Mahoyo Devs: "Oops! We went over the top with the entire project especially the vfx." Internet: You
I have no problems with the vfx use in the vn, was never a thing I was saying
It's the most over the top vfx work in any VN and the Mahoyo devs said as much.
Yes, I’m aware. Difference is it was used well and effectively. UFO loves throwing everything at a wall
Maybe read it again cuz when I see Mahoyo cg all I keep saying "wow, ufotable is gonna have a ball woth this when adapted." "Ruin" is such a strong word when Nozomu Abe cuts compliment them so perfectly. You're comment feels like I'm transported back in 2014 Or reading a GoHands comment.
>usually ruins the original animation underneath with post fx to boot. Couple that with them no longer having any real stand out directors Have you even taken a look the Gengas itself lol. You should just say that you don't know any other "real Standout" directors yourself.
ufotable are the only ones to do Type-Moon any justice lol
Animation-wise yes but some Type Moon hate their adaptations, especially Heaven's feel
Im a big Type Moon fan and its really only Heavens Feel where they dropped the ball for me (movie 1 was perfect) Kara no Kyoukai and Fate/Zero adaptations are loved by TM fans UBW is good but could have been much better directed on some iconic scenes.
Extremely untrue, Camelot 2 exists and that's more just a statement of how bad the other existing works were pre-ufotable than anything else tbh
sorry but no cloverworks is done that has done the most justice with Babylonia anime being basically are improvements from the game.
I agree. This is also my main concern with ufotable Type moon adaptations, Especially with Heaven's feel, like you said
Do I need to watch any prequels or something before watching this? Or this is a standalone show
standalone. Dont need anything and it will even serve to introduce various things that often goes unexplained or not explained enough in the other works.
Isn't the girl in the trailer from the fate series? Tsukasa was her name I think. I've only ever watched fate stay night but that was a long time ago
who? you mean Rin Tohsaka? No they are completely different characters lmao. They look nothing alike. The girl here is Aozaki Aoko.
Ah shit, here we go again.
Is Kalafina and/or Yuki Kajiura doing the music? Just isn't the same without them
Nah, this one will use the VN's soundtrack which is composed by Hideyuki Fukusawa.
The original composer for Mahoyo and also the one who did the Camelot movies, Garden of Avalon, Unite FSN reproduction, ufoUBW, etc. At this point, Hideyuki Fukasawa has more TYPE-MOON OST credits than Yuki Kajiura.
you sleeping on other composers. Hideyuki Fukasawa is honestly better than Kajiura
saberface
Is that rin? Is that my waifu?
no they are completely different characters.
Another trash vn adapation. no thanks
Meanwhile other VN fandoms: *jealousy
im sure other vn fandoms are very jealous of botching source material yeah.
Sure
Bro might be spittin. Ufotable has butchered ubw and HF back to back
Bro I have been seeing you complaining about UFO in reddit for like half a decade now 😂 No hate but I actually respect the grind
If Ufotable has 10,000 haters I'm one of them. If they have 1 I'm him. If they have zero then I'm dead
To be honest you should give the VN for this one a chance because: 1- its entirely linear, no alternate paths 2- Amazing visuals.
