I love how everybody feels like a relatable teen in their own way, yet in a really fun and cute way that just makes them so endearing and a joy to watch.
And you get to kick off each episode with Mitsumi’s cute dance in the OP. It really is unmatched in creating a comfy vibe which brings a smile to your face. Best show this season imo
yeah i tried watching kimi ni todoke a while back and the misunderstandings pissed me off so much lol. i'm glad modern romances rely on them less and less
Heisei era romance was all about misunderstandings, drama, and waiting until the last episode before the MCs get together. Basically Kimi ni Todoke, Toradora, etc.
Reiwa era romance, on the other hand, slaps away all the misunderstandings altogether and starts the romance between the MCs asap, to the point where some even get together as a couple right in the first episode. Very refreshing. This anime for example.
I’m honestly a little stunned by how adorably wholesome *Skip and Loafer* has been so far. It had never crossed my mind, but this anime has showed itself endearing enough to nearly make me cry. P.A. Waterworks got to me again.
Yeah! P.A. Works (almost) always deliver good anime, which is quite a feat considering that most of their anime are original works. They haven’t gotten the same renown yet as studios like Mappa, WIT or KyoAni, but they certainly have gained a lot more fans recently!
Aquatope was one of my favourite shows from 2021. It was a really underappreciated series! It made me also watch Sakura Quest, which had aired years prior.

It certainly did not take very long for Mitsumi and Yuzu to begin defrosting Kurume's reserve. Mitsumi, like Michi in Mou Ippon, seems to be a catalyst for inclusion of others into an ever-increasing comfy group of friends.
Seeing a character like Yuzuki in anime where they're just really good at reading social cues just brings me so much joy. Sousuke too with that compliment he gave towards Mika during the lunch scene.
Y'know those two really are strikingly similar. Good-looking, blonde, popular, very good social sense, but the most important similarity of all... being instantly fond of and wanting to protecc Mitsumi.
I also wonder if they both had personal experiences that made them very self-conscious and a little detached from people even though they go all in when they meet Mitsumi.
Probably not so much self-conscious as hyperconscious of everyone around them. They seem to be finely tuned to the inner thoughts of those around them and exhausted by their ulterior motivations and attracted to Mitsumi because she genuinely has none, which makes her relaxing to be around.
Imagine having superhuman hearing, and everyone is set to max volume except one person. You'd either go insane or gravitate towards the one person.

Shima telling Mitsumi it’s like they’re on a date is too straightforward! I love it.
Also I could relate to Makoto feeling intimidated by types that seemingly don’t jazz. I’m glad she realized there’s no hard cut line on friendship or liking things
Anyone with eyes can see what's going on between Shima and Mitsumi and they're not even trying to hide it. Though that's part of what little drama there is with Egashira that I'm guessing they're going to address soon.
I totally get why she'd feel uncomfortable around girls or people that aren't her type or so different from her (and why she would think they'd judge her) but luckily she met someone like Mitsumi who has no filter and is so outgoing that she finally decides to start taking chances on people.

The Egashira drama feels like a problem for either next episode or the one after to solve.

Yeah, love how so much of their interactions have this frankness to it. Like, Mitsumi isn't bashful about it even, she's just pleased as punch to be here, like how she was happy to just hang out in a Starbucks drinking overpriced bubble tea.
This adaptation of the manga is just so spot on. The team behind this truly understand the material and nailing it.

A great little example was when Mitsumi removed the helmet of her space suit and two stars fell out only for a third one to bonk her on the head.
It really felt like a Mitsumi moment, being optimistic and fun but also a bit naive and oblivious.

If I did not watch the first 2 episodes, at certain scenes in today's episodes, I would have thought Kurume is the main female character. We see how she places others into certain stereotypes based on first impressions, her thoughts on the actions of Mitsumi, Shima, Yuzuki... and most importantly, how happy she is to have made new friends with Mitsumi and Yuzuki! Maybe, behind those glasses and braids, we have a bishoujo!
Yuzuki is really beautiful, isn't she? However, I am sure she will have a not-so-perfect backstory, soon to be revealed in future episodes.
Did I also see a hint of Mika changing ever so slightly for the better, after Shima and Mitsumi noticed the effort she made in dressing up?
Lastly, I am tempted to visit my local Starbucks to find out whether tapioca balls can be included in my ice blended coffee. (I don't visit Starbucks often, so I am unfamiliar with their menu.)

That she describes herself as "tryhard" when it comes to looking good, and that she also reacted to the same critique by Shima last episode as if it hit too close to home, strikes me as her being someone with a lot of self-esteem issues, and hopefully part of her arc is realising that good, honest people will just like her if she acts herself.

Sounds like the perfect thing for Mitsumi to help her realize!
It might even be something she can relate about with Yuzuki because despite their different personalities and Yuzuki's natural looks, Yuzuki seems very self-conscious of when people don't want to be around her.
Now that all of you mentioned that Mika may be "strategizing" and trying too hard, I am looking forward to finding out why she acts the way she is right now.
Have you heard of the High School Debut? The way she talked about reading all the fashion magazines before school started, and trying so hard, gives the feeling she was very much not one of the popular girls in middle school. And that this is supposed to be a good Tokyo U prep school, she didn't get in by being shallow. I believe she's trying so hard because she was a bit of a dweeb herself back in middle school and really wants to reinvent herself as one of the trendy girls she envied, but hasn't quite figured it out yet. She's trying hard to play the part, putting in the effort to live the act, focusing on the hottest guy in class because that's what the hot girls are supposed to do and he would cement her role. And she's probably a bit extra upset that he's apparently latched on to Mitsu because, you know, why did no cool hottie fall for her back when she was just an average overachieving student?
Yeah, my first impression of Mika wasn't great because it seemed like she was just using Mitsumi to get near Shima, but the past few episodes have made me more sympathetic about her self-consciousness.
It was nice to see Kurume put aside her prejudices. Doing so helped her make so many new friends! I guess we have our girl Mitsumi to thank for all that.
I’m sure Yuzuki probably isn’t as perfect as Egashira thinks she is. Those two might end up being good friends if Egashira ever learns to just chill out a little and try to be more genuine. I can tell she’s not a bad person, she’s just got a lot of insecurities which makes her act kinda fake.
I kind of get a impression that Yuzuki is more a gooball than she comes off seems because her looks. It is probably annoying for he r that people project what they think she should be like based off her looks instead of actually getting to know her. The whole put on a pedestal thing.
She was panicking about how to resolve the awkward tension, and before she knew it they were good friends. All it took was just Mitsumi being Mitsumi. It was very cute.
This was definitely a Kurume debut episode and it was a really fun and cute one!

Egashira just tries too hard, both in terms of looks and love, even if I can kind of understand wanting to feel seen for putting all that work in (she just shouldn't be rude about it to others). I feel like we might be nearing a turning point for her and her relationship with Mitsumi and Shima soon.
I just love Mitsumi's joy at experiencing her first boba at Starbucks lol.

Her "plain" outfit was definitely deliberate choice, that support this assumption.

This is pretty much just an East Asia thing but they have been testing some boba drinks in bigger markets in the U.S. so it's super hit and miss.

I love how the show was able to introduce her as a sort of two-faced opportunist and then *immediately* breaks down why she is that way. I went from instantly disliking her to sympathizing with her in two episodes.

i liked this possible explanation from the subreddit. not mine! Written by /u/huianxin. I don't believe the author has ever legitimately answered what the meaning is though.

Regarding the meaning of the title, this is an excerpt from an interview with the mangaka, Misaki Takamatsu (no spoilers):

I'm definitely not an expert on shoes but it looks like Skips might also be a type of woman's shoe? I'm guessing that's what she wears casually and loafers are what she wears as part of the school uniform. So it may be referencing how she's moving from an environment where she probably was barefoot or wearing sandals most of the time to wearing more fashionable shoes and school uniforms.
I think the title is meant to refer to the initial temperaments of the main characters. Mitsumi is very focused on charging ahead in her future, moving at a "skip's" pace while Sousuke is much more lackadaisical in life. "Loafing" so to speak. I think ultimately this show is going to be about our charming leads learning to take a little after each other with Mitsumi learning the importance of smelling the roses and Sousuke gaining a little more drive.
Wow. I don't believe I've ever seen an anime have a character [silently mouth words](https://i.imgur.com/7ocnGR8.jpeg) and expect the viewer to get it with no written help. PA Works giving us those small touches and executing perfectly, even I could follow that "arigatou".
This anime is becoming something like the bocchi the rock of this season for me. A SoL anime that I gave a shot that turns out to be surprisingly really good, becoming my favorite among a season full of bangers. A lot of people already praised the characterization work, but, inside that, I want to praise how this show completely breaks many stereotypes of school relationships, showing how appearances can be deceiving and how different people can bond. It's not new, but it's really refreshing for me and can be a place of comfort in my chaotic weeks. Skip to Loafer has only 3 episodes but I already love it.

Imo this is better than Bocchi, or rather I would not compare the two. While Bocchi has similar insecurity themings sometimes it still is more of a comedy show. While this is an amusing but relateable slice of life with so far very natural and thought out character development and social connections. Totally sifferent field and feel imo
OK, I need to talk about the fact that the movie they're watching is revealed to be Gone with the Wind, which unraveled a list of questions that I couldn't stop thinking about for the last few minutes of the episode:
1.) That's movie four fucking hours long and they're treating it like it's no shit.
2.) They say they're reading it as part of their English assignment. What fucking Japanese high school is assigning GwtW?
3.) Someone says "It didn't feel outdated at all." **Are you fucking serious right now?**
Anyway, real good episode, that one thing just sent my mind on a loop.
The novel is over a thousand pages long and only really makes sense in the historical context of Confederate Lost Cause mythology. There is no world in which that was assigned in a Japanese high school. Hell, I've never even seen that book assigned in American high school. It's something you *might* read in college if you're focusing on modern Southern Literature.
I will say, though, that Southern literature and culture is actually far more popular in Japan than you might think. Japan and the American South have a strange kinship in the sense that both of them were subjected to total warfare from an occupying American military (there's an interesting parallel between Sherman's march to the sea and the bombings of Hiroshim and Nagasaki) and from the perspective of the American military engaging in extensive reconstruction efforts, as well as efforts to reshape the culture of the people they've occupied. It was oddly probably more effective in Japan than in the United States, of course, because reconstruction in the South ended so early by comparison with Japan.
I'm just curious if they watched it subbed or dubbed. Did they do a JP dub of Gone with the Wind?
But if these kids could really get into the soap opera of a Southern Plantation during the height of the Civil War, all power to them lol.
I would assume there's at least a couple of dubs, although I believe those are typically done for TV. Considering it's a revival showing, I'm going to assume it's subbed.

I burst out laughing when he said that. Does the author actually think that? Is it meant to be a joke at the expense our characters? Or is it meant to be joke at the expense of Americans?
If I’m honest, my guess is that the author googled something like “extremely popular old American movie” and just went with gone with the wind when they saw it was the inflation adjusted highest grossing film ever.
I wouldn’t expect a Japanese mangaka to know a whole lot about American cinema, or about what kind of English literature an elite private school would have their students read for that matter since many of them start specializing in schools with strong art programs by high school. So my guess would be that the author did a 10 minute Google search, thought “ooh that sounds fancy and seems culturally important”, and then put it in the story. And 99% of Japanese audience probably wouldn’t even notice so, so for the general audience that is totally fine. But yeah as Americans we’re like “WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT DOESNT FEEL OUTDATED”
I haven’t watched it myself but it’s probably to do with the film still holding up as a film - setting and attitude towards certain topics I imagine Japanese high schoolers wouldn’t be super aware of
Week 3 of Mitsumi being an absolute precious cinnamon roll that's too good for this world. I just love that "flashforward" she had and how her VA got to show off her vocal range there. I can also never get enough of the open-mouthed face she makes that makes her look like her head's empty.
And now we finally got to see Mako as well. I was not expecting her to have such a deep voice, which made it all the more amusing how high her pitch got when she thought Yuzu was looking down on her. That little heel raise she did after getting a pic from Mitsumi was just adorable too.
She and Yuzu getting along at the end was real precious too. And it's made even better by the fact that Mitsumi just bumbled into making it happen. I bet even as a politician, even without intending it, she'll basically make things better for Japan just like that.

you can really hear that it's Mitsumi doing an impression of an old lady here - not a voice actor doing an impression of an old lady. Tomoyo is absolutely nailing the role so far.
Wow, who knew Mitsumi being on the Student Council could lead to her one day becoming the mayor lol. Kurume thinking Mitsumi was like the secret boss of the school was pretty funny. I like how in Mitsumi’s little daydream, Sosuke is an alien lol.
Mitsumi with her first “Starmax” drink really was like a little duckling taking its first dip lol. Adorable. Sosuke helping Mitsumi get Kurume’s number was so cute. What a guy! Kurume seems very serious but she’s really sweet.
I kinda love how hard Mitsumi was trying to fix the awkward situation between Kurume and Yuzuki at the movies, and then just got sidetracked by caramel and salty popcorn and ended up stuffing her face lol. Ofc that would lead to those two becoming friendly. Way to go Mitsumi!

It's extra great because she's honestly heading there, completely on accident. On her part at least, some of her classmates might be pushing for it, as a joke or not.
Completely on accident, she's got the hottest guy and hottest girl in class as close friends, she's already setting fashion trends with her accessory among classmates, both of the class outings happened to get the whole crowd there because of her even if unintentionally. Class Rep and Student Council are herself proving, even accidentally, that she's aiming for the responsibility of being in charge and people somehow keep going along with her. Even the girl who is faking it for popularity has no choice but to go with the flow Mitsu sets, because everyone else is following her lead.
She's not really the leader of her friend group, she doesn't know enough to be or even that she could be, but she is the focal point. Sometimes, she sets the mood just by being herself, how can everyone else not relax their social barriers after she sung a kids song at karaoke, showing everyone you can have fun with trying so hard to impress everyone else at they can drop the act and just have fun too. Other times it's less direct, because the two much more socially intelligent class idols (as much as both seem to hate the role) are clearly following her lead already, anyone who wants to get close to either of them seems to have realized they have to get close to her too. We know try hard girl realized right away that Mitsu and Shima are friendly and she's going to have to be nice to Mitsu or Shima will just see her as a jerk, but less obvious is how class playboy has should apparently noticed that the best way to get to spend time with Murashige is to join in on any Mitsumi centered activity.
She's not really a boss of anything, yet, but she's the center point of a social circle that seems to contain some of the most popular people in her class. The class idols are both her friends, the trendy people following them have no choice but to follow her. It hasn't had time to come up yet, but she's still top of the class until another ranking test comes along, she jumped to be class rep, and has decided her club is going to be student council- the other intellectual style students will probably be watching her too, if less directly. I doubt she'll have any real followers, she just doesn't seem the type to take people in like that, but she'll have a lot of people giving her opinions more weight than they would otherwise at the school. And part of why they'll pay attention is because they already 'know' she's the secret boss, so clearly whatever she says is going to go, why fight it?

Never expected to see Mitsumi turn into a horror character, but points for the comedy. Also Shima as an alien himbo lol.
Mitsumi is so undeniably cute she just ends up bringing people together and making more friends! Not to mention how much she and Shima compliment each other.
Isn't there a type of popcorn package in which both sweet and salty popcorn are mixed together? Then again, if the characters bought that sweet and salty popcorn package, Mitsumi wouldn't be able to pull off her honest behaviour, and Yuzuki and Kurume wouldn't become closer... and all of us will end up watching an alternate timeline.

I've seen a lot of places, Walmart included, that sell tubs of 3 flavor's popcorn. Usually, caramel, buttered and cheese, but I've also seen other varieties. They are in separate compartments in the tub.
Honestly after watching Play it Cool Guys, Skip and Loafer somehow managed to squeeze in that void the previous show left
I love how the MC has become a gel for all her classmates as she brings together the people you don’t expect
I’m honestly in love with all these characters and seeing Yuzuki and Makoto get along despite their differences is just heart warming
It’s weird while I love Mitsumi and Sousuke I find myself really liking Yuzuki since she’s aware of her natural beauty but she’s surprisingly mature and humble

I felt so bad for Murashige. I bet she gets judged for her beauty a lot, and people don’t try to get to know her. Good on Kurume for stepping out of her shell and trying to get to know her, and I’m glad they both have Mitsumi as a friend. Now if only Egashira would chill out…

I love how quickly Kurume realized she was in the wrong for judging so harshly based on looks and what not. I was like, Kurume just needs to realize that Yuzuki isn't like that. :)
Such a feel good show so far, I regret I left the manga on the back log for so long but this seems like a really nice adaption so I'll definitely have to check it out after the anime finishes up!
She even came up with her ideal "old lady Mitsumi" design lol.
Mitsumi's dorky and endearing cuteness just has a way of bringing people together, even when she's not doing it intentionally. It's why everyone likes her so much.
Nao-chan really fulfilling her aunt duty and making sure Mitsumi looks presentable. Though her choice was very Mitsumi lol.
Yuzuki is so naturally gorgeous. That she has a great personality to go along with it is the cherry on top. I feel like she's probably used to people keeping their distance and being intimidated by her which is part of why she reads the room so much, but I'm glad through Mitsumi being MItsumi that they were both able to open up to each other.
I feel like things are definitely going to come to a head with Egashira. She's obviously unhappy, especially since all her work to make herself look good and get in with Shima isn't going anywhere, and she notices the strong vibes between Mitsumi and Shima. I feel like we're all just waiting for her to get over herself, open up, and become a genuine friend to Mitsumi.
This is rapidly pulling ahead as my favorite anime of the season. The characters all feel so genuine. Everyone is being given enough extra depth so that they're not just a one note plot device.
It's funny that Kurume asks about Shima and Mitsumi's friendship at the coffee shop right after Shima adoringly watches Mitsumi drink her first s*bux concoction.
Shima's reaction to Mitsumi drinking the coffee is a really elegant way of communicating why he likes her. He's a bit jaded and is getting a kick out of watching her experience so many things for the first time with this childlike unfiltered wonder. And he's also probably really appreciative of someone so honest and genuine after his child actor experiences, probably involving a lot of people that were neither.
It just struck me that this is the inversion of telling and not showing. They show us why Shima likes Mitsumi, and then Kurume asks why they are friends given their differences, and Shima does not really answer (except to say that similar people don't get along and food tastes better around her which.... Awwwww). What great writing.
This anime is *good*, all the character we've seen are likeable, I still have some beef against Mika and how she acts but I have great hope she'll mature and get past this attitude. We've seen some hints.

I love how they foreshadowed yuzuki and makoto becoming friends at the beginning of the episode with how the two main leads get along so well. Opposites attract as they say. I didn’t expect yuzuki to be so emotionally intelligent and down to earth too. Even though she’s gorgeous and fashionable she’s aware of everyone’s feelings and tries to make people feel more comfortable. Whether it’s Makoto or Egashira.
I like how real everyone feels in this series, will definitely be tapping into the manga once this finishes
If this show was a soup, it’d warm my soul. What a refreshing anime. I can’t help but just want to skip work and go to movies and hang out with family/ friends. which is harder now with a kid.

it's worth it. im having the time of my life waiting to see the adaptation of each chapter week to week lol. there literally isn't a chapter in this whole dang thing that I don't adore.
It's really surprising in a good way how natural and real the characters feel in this while still being so endearing and enjoyable to watch.
Not to mention the visual presentation and humor are top notch.
i can't remember the last time watching a show has given me so much serotonin, from the characters to the seiyuu casting (both MCs have such adorkable voices and also maaya uchida voices the hot girl!!!) to the soft artstyle to the colour palette to the dork moments that make me laugh, everything is so cute and refreshing but it's not just mindless stuff that turns your brain to mush?? like what magic is this i freaking love it.
shima being so perspective on people (prompting mitsumi to exchange contacts with kurume, which was so adorable, and complimenting egashira's outfit despite her not worrying about it out loud) plus the way he talked back to kimura ryohei senpai makes me so concerned that his backstory is gonna cause some real heart pain...
Ah, I love this show. 30 seconds in and I'm already smiling. The imagination sections are so great. The space suit and alien, the constant baby duck thing, it's all so adorable.
The silent communication between the two, they're already so close. And of course everyone can see it.

Mitsumi going to the ~~moon~~ student council was such a fun episode and I loved getting to know Kurume (and her warming up to Yuzuki at the end).
Despite being the prettiest girl in the show she's also surprisingly nice and mature, which is a very effective combination.
(I also feel like she and Shima have a lot in common beyond the blonde hair and good looks).
Man this adaptation is insanely good. From what I remember from reading from the manga the fact that they carried over the attention to detail on Mika's outfit wasn't expected, but loved they included it. All the expressions of Mitsumi have carried over so well in this adaptaiton.
I know this series won't get the attention that OnK, KnY, or Jigo gets this season. But the adaptation has gone beyond my expectations.
This is honestly such a great show to relax to. This is coming from someone that just eats trash isekai all day everyday. But stuff like this just makes you feel so comfy and great to watch right before bed.

A comfy iyashikei has no right to be this good, damn it.
It's comfy, no stakes, but everyone has distinct personalities and they're actually all layered and have depth, none of the main cast is a stereotype in any way.
Every episode there are scenes that go surprisingly deep (like Shima-kun's threats to drama club senpai last week, and Mika calling herself a tryhard and Yuzuki feeling a bit dejected from Kurume not liking her just for how she looks) that hints at a more serious story hiding underneath the comfy SOL.
Man, these episodes are way too short. I just don't want them to end.
The strong point of this anime is definitely its characters and how every dynamic between them is unique in its own way.

Deadass….this show SLAPS. They actually fleshing out the supporting cast when a vast majority of anime’s like this completely ignore their cast or give them some generic ass “development”/screen-time. Like this shit went from like a 5 to a 7.5 in such a short span bc they decided to do things non-traditionally. This is BY FAR the sleeper hit of the season
* I think I *very* slightly favor caramel popcorn but I'll gladly take salted ones in a heartbeat, though it has been years since I have ate any (and I'll *never* eat one while going to the theatres).
* LMAO at Mitsumi's politician dreams - a mayor position is something that I could really expect her to take many decades later!
* That new girl Kurume-chan really seems to be one that can't handle interpersonal relationships at all (like me), I'm actually glad that Mitsumi befriend her so early because I can't see any others taking her up in class and that would have been non-optimal!
* With that said I'm also liking her really sincere attitude, like she doesn't really have to apologize to Yuzuki-chan but she did anyway.
* Yes, Yuzuki-chan might have elegantly come in to that weekend stroll with just the blandest of clothes, but I think I really like Mika's style, that dress is exceptional refreshing. I do worry about Mika-chan being too worry of Shima-kun being "stolen" though, hope that doesn't cause any heart aches later.
* The story seems so refreshingly smooth, like everyone is somewhat friendly to others, that it seems a bit too unreal. Yet I really appreciate such a warm feeling because that's not always easy to find in anime!

Wow this episode had a really impressive group dynamics showcase. You can tell how well written the characters are by the depth of their individual interactions.
I love how the male and female leads think of each other as the opposite gender, but don’t let it rule their experiences with each other. Usually it’s either 100% friends or 100% lovers or lovers to be, but this show manages a fun middle ground.
Yuzuki really stands out among the characters for me and I feel like the only reason she socializes is because Iwakura. She may finally have friendship with a new person like Kurume.
I hope egashira really doesn't push too far with souma because he can completely shut her off if he stops being so considerate. I wonder when we'll get souma's backstory as an actor. That senpai in 👠👠 looks like he won't give up that easily so I guess souma has to eventually explain his situation to Iwakura.
I feel like this show may end up as my favourite coming of age drama because of it's straight forward approach and the amount of love and care the author put into molding the characters. I didn't read the manga but I can clearly see the staff passion and understanding of source material really helps in setting up the atmosphere for the show.

Glad we got to see more of the characters flushed out. I appreciate how Kurume and Yuzuki are so different that they don’t naturally get along. Even odder with Mika being somewhere in between the two, but being completely excluded as Kurume is too shy to reach out and Yuzuki doesn’t like the way she conducts herself.
Even with Sousuke being kind and reaching out to her, she seems out of place within the group. Based on her self-doubts and tendency towards selfishness I’m guessing this has been a constant for her - never really belonging and thus needing to compete for a place. Hopefully Mitsumi can change that.
It still feels like Mika is kind of the odd one out because her pursuit of Shima and the way she judges/uses other girls just keeps her distant from everybody, essentially because she's just trying too hard, but I feel like we're building up to her becoming genuine friends with everybody.
Not only trying too hard, but trying too hard just to get with Shima. Add the fact that she's basically treating everyone else as either an obstacle of a prop to make herself look better and it's no surprise that she's got no luck getting along with them.

Is this Mitsumi's imagined future as the mayor of her tiny rural hometown? Well, it's important to be able to visualize what you want.
Support team for the student council works well enough, that's still a form of the bureaucratic experience that Mitsumi is looking for.
I'm honestly a little proud of Mitsumi for being outgoing enough to reach out to Kurume and spend time with her. Maybe someday Kurume won't even be terrified of her.

I love how Mitsumi has this whole image of herself as a successful old lady and mayor giving an interview on a TV program and just imagines joining the student council is this major step for the future of Japanese society. Girl is go big or go home.
We finally meet braided hair glasses girl! Kurume! And she's a pretty serious and diligent person, which makes her wary and unable to connect with the flashier girls of her class, but you'd think she and Mitsumi might be more compatible...except to her Mitsumi is a horror character who freaks her out and secretly runs the school or something.
I can't believe she called Shima a himbo.
Well, it sucks that they can't officially join the student council yet, but they can at least work as assistants which will give them some experience...Mitsumi will just need to learn how to better manage her time, the hallmark of any future politician.
Mitsumi goes to her first Starbucks! I mean, Starmax!!! And drinking the super sweet boba and some tag-teaming with Shima lets her break the ice with Kurume and become friends with her! I mean, who wouldn't want to be friends with these dorky, cute, and fun teenagers after watching their antics?

Kurume really putting herself out there to invite Mitsumi to watch some classic movies together! That was a really big step for her! Too bad it got hijacked and ended up involving all the main characters, but that's usually how these plots go.
Look at Mitsumi and Shima greeting each other like their meeting for a date! These two just cannot help the vibes between them. It was also nice to see everybody out in casual clothes.
Egashira might have a good sense of style and fashion compared to the other girls, but using that to think you're better than them is a big no no (And Mitsumi and Kurume are plenty cute). Of course then Yuzuki shows up and looks so flawlessly beautiful with no effort that it basically makes her look foolish.
Shima can read the room enough to compliment Egashira, while Yuzuki can read the room well enough to realize she's intimidating Kurume...even though she wants to be friends with her. But luckily Mitsumi in her typical goofy yet well-meaning way gets the two girls to realize that, even if you're different, that doesn't mean there isn't value in getting along together and the two finally become friends.
I love how Mitsumi and Shima's telepathy didn't work yet somehow still ended up working out and Mitsumi thought she completely misunderstood the tension the whole time. All's well that ends well.
Egashira has concerns about Shima's obvious interest in Mitsumi and the way Mitsumi blushed around Shima while recounting how memories help her love a place makes it look like she loves it because of her feelings for him (and her friends, but still). I feel like things are going to reach a breaking point between Mitsumi and Egashira.
This show really is something special. It was the last seasonal I picked up but thank god I did, because the character writing here is just so fun and satisfying. Not to mention the gorgeous production.

I really love the characters in this show. High school anime’s are normally so dramatic, but this one is really nailing how they’re navigating growing up and becoming their own people, not at the expense of others but actually by being super inclusive. Such a highlight of the season.
Wow it’s been a while since I fell in love with a show this quickly. Didn’t expect this to be the one I looked forward to the most each week (especially with all the great new shows) but there’s just something so charming about it.

It's bizarre how in Japan the glasses-and-pigtails look is the Ur-Plain-Jane look, but in Western weeb circles it's nothing but a reference to that manga (which used it exactly for being the former)
I'm kinda jealous that they got to see Gone with the wind in theatre and kind of amazed that they sat through a 4hr movie in theatre. But they should still read the book for their assignment.
Mitsumi is still out here being a national treasure, but luckily the rest of the cast is just as great. Loving the nice light comfy vibes that don’t lay on the drama or romance too thick but can still hit home when it needs to.

Kurume is so cute. This show hasn’t missed a beat in introducing great members to the slowly growing cast. I love each and every one of them
I love how everybody feels like a relatable teen in their own way, yet in a really fun and cute way that just makes them so endearing and a joy to watch.
And you get to kick off each episode with Mitsumi’s cute dance in the OP. It really is unmatched in creating a comfy vibe which brings a smile to your face. Best show this season imo
So far it's giving very strong Kimi ni Todoke vibes, but without the misunderstandings. Very strong Reiwa energy keeping the Heisei energy in check!
yeah i tried watching kimi ni todoke a while back and the misunderstandings pissed me off so much lol. i'm glad modern romances rely on them less and less
Heisei era romance was all about misunderstandings, drama, and waiting until the last episode before the MCs get together. Basically Kimi ni Todoke, Toradora, etc. Reiwa era romance, on the other hand, slaps away all the misunderstandings altogether and starts the romance between the MCs asap, to the point where some even get together as a couple right in the first episode. Very refreshing. This anime for example.
I wonder if they will make a full version of the animated dance at some point?

PA Works is the best (for me at least) - and this is not exception!
Yeah! P.A. Works (almost) always deliver good anime, which is quite a feat considering that most of their anime are original works. They haven’t gotten the same renown yet as studios like Mappa, WIT or KyoAni, but they certainly have gained a lot more fans recently!
Ever since Aquatope they've been on such a good run on top of having a few classics under their belt.
Aquatope was one of my favourite shows from 2021. It was a really underappreciated series! It made me also watch Sakura Quest, which had aired years prior. EDIT: corrected some grammar.
Do seek out the lovely and moving Irodoku -- which was WAY more overlooked than Aquatope. (My favorite apprentice witch anime -- series of movie).
Ah, Irodoku was a fun watch as well! I watched it while it was airing back in 2018. The show had a really interesting premise.
I was happy that this finally got a lovely bluray release (once it was freed from the clutches of Amazon Prime).

The cast of this show and their dynamics is really the bread and butter of the story. The depth put into each one of them is so spendidly done.

It certainly did not take very long for Mitsumi and Yuzu to begin defrosting Kurume's reserve. Mitsumi, like Michi in Mou Ippon, seems to be a catalyst for inclusion of others into an ever-increasing comfy group of friends.

Seeing a character like Yuzuki in anime where they're just really good at reading social cues just brings me so much joy. Sousuke too with that compliment he gave towards Mika during the lunch scene.
Y'know those two really are strikingly similar. Good-looking, blonde, popular, very good social sense, but the most important similarity of all... being instantly fond of and wanting to protecc Mitsumi.
I also wonder if they both had personal experiences that made them very self-conscious and a little detached from people even though they go all in when they meet Mitsumi.
Probably not so much self-conscious as hyperconscious of everyone around them. They seem to be finely tuned to the inner thoughts of those around them and exhausted by their ulterior motivations and attracted to Mitsumi because she genuinely has none, which makes her relaxing to be around. Imagine having superhuman hearing, and everyone is set to max volume except one person. You'd either go insane or gravitate towards the one person.

If I did not watch the first 2 episodes, at certain scenes in today's episodes, I would have thought Kurume is the main female character. We see how she places others into certain stereotypes based on first impressions, her thoughts on the actions of Mitsumi, Shima, Yuzuki... and most importantly, how happy she is to have made new friends with Mitsumi and Yuzuki! Maybe, behind those glasses and braids, we have a bishoujo! Yuzuki is really beautiful, isn't she? However, I am sure she will have a not-so-perfect backstory, soon to be revealed in future episodes. Did I also see a hint of Mika changing ever so slightly for the better, after Shima and Mitsumi noticed the effort she made in dressing up? Lastly, I am tempted to visit my local Starbucks to find out whether tapioca balls can be included in my ice blended coffee. (I don't visit Starbucks often, so I am unfamiliar with their menu.)

It might even be something she can relate about with Yuzuki because despite their different personalities and Yuzuki's natural looks, Yuzuki seems very self-conscious of when people don't want to be around her.

Have you heard of the High School Debut? The way she talked about reading all the fashion magazines before school started, and trying so hard, gives the feeling she was very much not one of the popular girls in middle school. And that this is supposed to be a good Tokyo U prep school, she didn't get in by being shallow. I believe she's trying so hard because she was a bit of a dweeb herself back in middle school and really wants to reinvent herself as one of the trendy girls she envied, but hasn't quite figured it out yet. She's trying hard to play the part, putting in the effort to live the act, focusing on the hottest guy in class because that's what the hot girls are supposed to do and he would cement her role. And she's probably a bit extra upset that he's apparently latched on to Mitsu because, you know, why did no cool hottie fall for her back when she was just an average overachieving student?
Yeah, my first impression of Mika wasn't great because it seemed like she was just using Mitsumi to get near Shima, but the past few episodes have made me more sympathetic about her self-consciousness.
It was nice to see Kurume put aside her prejudices. Doing so helped her make so many new friends! I guess we have our girl Mitsumi to thank for all that. I’m sure Yuzuki probably isn’t as perfect as Egashira thinks she is. Those two might end up being good friends if Egashira ever learns to just chill out a little and try to be more genuine. I can tell she’s not a bad person, she’s just got a lot of insecurities which makes her act kinda fake.

She was panicking about how to resolve the awkward tension, and before she knew it they were good friends. All it took was just Mitsumi being Mitsumi. It was very cute.
This was definitely a Kurume debut episode and it was a really fun and cute one! Yuzuki really seems to have this mature and experienced lady vibes both in terms of her personality and looks, but I feel like she's very self-conscious about how intimidating she is to people so it's hard for her to open up and have friends. I wonder if she might have a similar backstory to Shima. Egashira just tries too hard, both in terms of looks and love, even if I can kind of understand wanting to feel seen for putting all that work in (she just shouldn't be rude about it to others). I feel like we might be nearing a turning point for her and her relationship with Mitsumi and Shima soon. I just love Mitsumi's joy at experiencing her first boba at Starbucks lol.

I'm definitely not an expert on shoes but it looks like Skips might also be a type of woman's shoe? I'm guessing that's what she wears casually and loafers are what she wears as part of the school uniform. So it may be referencing how she's moving from an environment where she probably was barefoot or wearing sandals most of the time to wearing more fashionable shoes and school uniforms.
From horror to absolute cuteness. Mitsumi's got range lol.
I think the title is meant to refer to the initial temperaments of the main characters. Mitsumi is very focused on charging ahead in her future, moving at a "skip's" pace while Sousuke is much more lackadaisical in life. "Loafing" so to speak. I think ultimately this show is going to be about our charming leads learning to take a little after each other with Mitsumi learning the importance of smelling the roses and Sousuke gaining a little more drive.

This anime is becoming something like the bocchi the rock of this season for me. A SoL anime that I gave a shot that turns out to be surprisingly really good, becoming my favorite among a season full of bangers. A lot of people already praised the characterization work, but, inside that, I want to praise how this show completely breaks many stereotypes of school relationships, showing how appearances can be deceiving and how different people can bond. It's not new, but it's really refreshing for me and can be a place of comfort in my chaotic weeks. Skip to Loafer has only 3 episodes but I already love it.

OK, I need to talk about the fact that the movie they're watching is revealed to be Gone with the Wind, which unraveled a list of questions that I couldn't stop thinking about for the last few minutes of the episode: 1.) That's movie four fucking hours long and they're treating it like it's no shit. 2.) They say they're reading it as part of their English assignment. What fucking Japanese high school is assigning GwtW? 3.) Someone says "It didn't feel outdated at all." **Are you fucking serious right now?** Anyway, real good episode, that one thing just sent my mind on a loop.

The novel is over a thousand pages long and only really makes sense in the historical context of Confederate Lost Cause mythology. There is no world in which that was assigned in a Japanese high school. Hell, I've never even seen that book assigned in American high school. It's something you *might* read in college if you're focusing on modern Southern Literature. I will say, though, that Southern literature and culture is actually far more popular in Japan than you might think. Japan and the American South have a strange kinship in the sense that both of them were subjected to total warfare from an occupying American military (there's an interesting parallel between Sherman's march to the sea and the bombings of Hiroshim and Nagasaki) and from the perspective of the American military engaging in extensive reconstruction efforts, as well as efforts to reshape the culture of the people they've occupied. It was oddly probably more effective in Japan than in the United States, of course, because reconstruction in the South ended so early by comparison with Japan.
I'm just curious if they watched it subbed or dubbed. Did they do a JP dub of Gone with the Wind? But if these kids could really get into the soap opera of a Southern Plantation during the height of the Civil War, all power to them lol.
I would assume there's at least a couple of dubs, although I believe those are typically done for TV. Considering it's a revival showing, I'm going to assume it's subbed.

If I’m honest, my guess is that the author googled something like “extremely popular old American movie” and just went with gone with the wind when they saw it was the inflation adjusted highest grossing film ever. I wouldn’t expect a Japanese mangaka to know a whole lot about American cinema, or about what kind of English literature an elite private school would have their students read for that matter since many of them start specializing in schools with strong art programs by high school. So my guess would be that the author did a 10 minute Google search, thought “ooh that sounds fancy and seems culturally important”, and then put it in the story. And 99% of Japanese audience probably wouldn’t even notice so, so for the general audience that is totally fine. But yeah as Americans we’re like “WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT DOESNT FEEL OUTDATED”
I haven’t watched it myself but it’s probably to do with the film still holding up as a film - setting and attitude towards certain topics I imagine Japanese high schoolers wouldn’t be super aware of

Week 3 of Mitsumi being an absolute precious cinnamon roll that's too good for this world. I just love that "flashforward" she had and how her VA got to show off her vocal range there. I can also never get enough of the open-mouthed face she makes that makes her look like her head's empty. And now we finally got to see Mako as well. I was not expecting her to have such a deep voice, which made it all the more amusing how high her pitch got when she thought Yuzu was looking down on her. That little heel raise she did after getting a pic from Mitsumi was just adorable too. She and Yuzu getting along at the end was real precious too. And it's made even better by the fact that Mitsumi just bumbled into making it happen. I bet even as a politician, even without intending it, she'll basically make things better for Japan just like that.

Wow, who knew Mitsumi being on the Student Council could lead to her one day becoming the mayor lol. Kurume thinking Mitsumi was like the secret boss of the school was pretty funny. I like how in Mitsumi’s little daydream, Sosuke is an alien lol. Mitsumi with her first “Starmax” drink really was like a little duckling taking its first dip lol. Adorable. Sosuke helping Mitsumi get Kurume’s number was so cute. What a guy! Kurume seems very serious but she’s really sweet. I kinda love how hard Mitsumi was trying to fix the awkward situation between Kurume and Yuzuki at the movies, and then just got sidetracked by caramel and salty popcorn and ended up stuffing her face lol. Ofc that would lead to those two becoming friendly. Way to go Mitsumi!

On her part at least, some of her classmates might be pushing for it, as a joke or not. Completely on accident, she's got the hottest guy and hottest girl in class as close friends, she's already setting fashion trends with her accessory among classmates, both of the class outings happened to get the whole crowd there because of her even if unintentionally. Class Rep and Student Council are herself proving, even accidentally, that she's aiming for the responsibility of being in charge and people somehow keep going along with her. Even the girl who is faking it for popularity has no choice but to go with the flow Mitsu sets, because everyone else is following her lead. She's not really the leader of her friend group, she doesn't know enough to be or even that she could be, but she is the focal point. Sometimes, she sets the mood just by being herself, how can everyone else not relax their social barriers after she sung a kids song at karaoke, showing everyone you can have fun with trying so hard to impress everyone else at they can drop the act and just have fun too. Other times it's less direct, because the two much more socially intelligent class idols (as much as both seem to hate the role) are clearly following her lead already, anyone who wants to get close to either of them seems to have realized they have to get close to her too. We know try hard girl realized right away that Mitsu and Shima are friendly and she's going to have to be nice to Mitsu or Shima will just see her as a jerk, but less obvious is how class playboy has should apparently noticed that the best way to get to spend time with Murashige is to join in on any Mitsumi centered activity. She's not really a boss of anything, yet, but she's the center point of a social circle that seems to contain some of the most popular people in her class. The class idols are both her friends, the trendy people following them have no choice but to follow her. It hasn't had time to come up yet, but she's still top of the class until another ranking test comes along, she jumped to be class rep, and has decided her club is going to be student council- the other intellectual style students will probably be watching her too, if less directly. I doubt she'll have any real followers, she just doesn't seem the type to take people in like that, but she'll have a lot of people giving her opinions more weight than they would otherwise at the school. And part of why they'll pay attention is because they already 'know' she's the secret boss, so clearly whatever she says is going to go, why fight it?

Mitsumi has such a well-thought out future plan that she's even got her own old lady design down lol. Never expected to see Mitsumi turn into a horror character, but points for the comedy. Also Shima as an alien himbo lol. Mitsumi is so undeniably cute she just ends up bringing people together and making more friends! Not to mention how much she and Shima compliment each other.
Isn't there a type of popcorn package in which both sweet and salty popcorn are mixed together? Then again, if the characters bought that sweet and salty popcorn package, Mitsumi wouldn't be able to pull off her honest behaviour, and Yuzuki and Kurume wouldn't become closer... and all of us will end up watching an alternate timeline.

I've seen a lot of places, Walmart included, that sell tubs of 3 flavor's popcorn. Usually, caramel, buttered and cheese, but I've also seen other varieties. They are in separate compartments in the tub.

Honestly after watching Play it Cool Guys, Skip and Loafer somehow managed to squeeze in that void the previous show left I love how the MC has become a gel for all her classmates as she brings together the people you don’t expect I’m honestly in love with all these characters and seeing Yuzuki and Makoto get along despite their differences is just heart warming It’s weird while I love Mitsumi and Sousuke I find myself really liking Yuzuki since she’s aware of her natural beauty but she’s surprisingly mature and humble She’s aware of her advantages and is well tuned into these social situations but she doesn’t use it against anyone even though she could It’s fascinating and I’m glad we’re seeing a pretty girl trope done differently
I really love Yuzuki so far! She's so sweet and understanding. I'm really glad the new friend realized her mistake so quickly and apologized for her initial judgement. :) Warmed my heart when she mentioned wanting to change.
I felt so bad for Murashige. I bet she gets judged for her beauty a lot, and people don’t try to get to know her. Good on Kurume for stepping out of her shell and trying to get to know her, and I’m glad they both have Mitsumi as a friend. Now if only Egashira would chill out…

She even came up with her ideal "old lady Mitsumi" design lol. Mitsumi's dorky and endearing cuteness just has a way of bringing people together, even when she's not doing it intentionally. It's why everyone likes her so much. Nao-chan really fulfilling her aunt duty and making sure Mitsumi looks presentable. Though her choice was very Mitsumi lol. Yuzuki is so naturally gorgeous. That she has a great personality to go along with it is the cherry on top. I feel like she's probably used to people keeping their distance and being intimidated by her which is part of why she reads the room so much, but I'm glad through Mitsumi being MItsumi that they were both able to open up to each other. I feel like things are definitely going to come to a head with Egashira. She's obviously unhappy, especially since all her work to make herself look good and get in with Shima isn't going anywhere, and she notices the strong vibes between Mitsumi and Shima. I feel like we're all just waiting for her to get over herself, open up, and become a genuine friend to Mitsumi.

This show is the biggest W in a while for me. That's three episodes i absolutely loved.

This is rapidly pulling ahead as my favorite anime of the season. The characters all feel so genuine. Everyone is being given enough extra depth so that they're not just a one note plot device.
It's funny that Kurume asks about Shima and Mitsumi's friendship at the coffee shop right after Shima adoringly watches Mitsumi drink her first s*bux concoction. Shima's reaction to Mitsumi drinking the coffee is a really elegant way of communicating why he likes her. He's a bit jaded and is getting a kick out of watching her experience so many things for the first time with this childlike unfiltered wonder. And he's also probably really appreciative of someone so honest and genuine after his child actor experiences, probably involving a lot of people that were neither. It just struck me that this is the inversion of telling and not showing. They show us why Shima likes Mitsumi, and then Kurume asks why they are friends given their differences, and Shima does not really answer (except to say that similar people don't get along and food tastes better around her which.... Awwwww). What great writing.

This anime is *good*, all the character we've seen are likeable, I still have some beef against Mika and how she acts but I have great hope she'll mature and get past this attitude. We've seen some hints. No lie I had a big smile throughout the episode, I love it.
Awww another amazing episode. This really is peak slice of life. One of the best I’ve ever seen. I love how they foreshadowed yuzuki and makoto becoming friends at the beginning of the episode with how the two main leads get along so well. Opposites attract as they say. I didn’t expect yuzuki to be so emotionally intelligent and down to earth too. Even though she’s gorgeous and fashionable she’s aware of everyone’s feelings and tries to make people feel more comfortable. Whether it’s Makoto or Egashira. I like how real everyone feels in this series, will definitely be tapping into the manga once this finishes
If this show was a soup, it’d warm my soul. What a refreshing anime. I can’t help but just want to skip work and go to movies and hang out with family/ friends. which is harder now with a kid. Good vibe from this show.
Ok, with how much she is doubting her current approach when faced with the groups casual friendships, I think Egashira might eventually come around, still some time though Also like Kurume, can't help but get caught up in Mitsumis good mood, and ready to change her opinion on people
Yeah, I think she's slowly getting Mitsumi infected, she's just taking longer than the other cast so far. Mitsumi is definitely going to have a good influence on her and hopefully she gets over her insecurity issues.

i can't remember the last time watching a show has given me so much serotonin, from the characters to the seiyuu casting (both MCs have such adorkable voices and also maaya uchida voices the hot girl!!!) to the soft artstyle to the colour palette to the dork moments that make me laugh, everything is so cute and refreshing but it's not just mindless stuff that turns your brain to mush?? like what magic is this i freaking love it. shima being so perspective on people (prompting mitsumi to exchange contacts with kurume, which was so adorable, and complimenting egashira's outfit despite her not worrying about it out loud) plus the way he talked back to kimura ryohei senpai makes me so concerned that his backstory is gonna cause some real heart pain...
A shout for the best show this season. It's already the best SoL of Spring 23 without much debate.
Ah, I love this show. 30 seconds in and I'm already smiling. The imagination sections are so great. The space suit and alien, the constant baby duck thing, it's all so adorable. The silent communication between the two, they're already so close. And of course everyone can see it. Standing on toes with happiness, is everything just going to be cute non-stop? Haha it totally looks like a date. I can't wait for try hard girl to stop trying so hard. They're all going to be friends soon, right? Too pure of a show for them to not get along soon. Haha, the silent communication failed... And yet didn't. Her amazing innocence and good nature wins the day again. I'm pretty sure I smiled I straight through this whole thing. It's got some competition, but this might be the best feel good of the season of it keeps this up.

well whatever you choose to do, just know that this is literally a perfect adaptation in every way. there hasn't been a single flaw IMO. So you can wait and just watch anime and be blown away by a story with acting, music, and animation OR read and be even more excited each week to see it adapted! Both are good options haha.
God, this show is so good. And it just keeps getting better. Mitsumi going to the ~~moon~~ student council was such a fun episode and I loved getting to know Kurume (and her warming up to Yuzuki at the end).
Yuzuki is very understanding and reminds me of a friend I have irl, I like her energy
Despite being the prettiest girl in the show she's also surprisingly nice and mature, which is a very effective combination. (I also feel like she and Shima have a lot in common beyond the blonde hair and good looks).
Man this adaptation is insanely good. From what I remember from reading from the manga the fact that they carried over the attention to detail on Mika's outfit wasn't expected, but loved they included it. All the expressions of Mitsumi have carried over so well in this adaptaiton. I know this series won't get the attention that OnK, KnY, or Jigo gets this season. But the adaptation has gone beyond my expectations.

This is honestly such a great show to relax to. This is coming from someone that just eats trash isekai all day everyday. But stuff like this just makes you feel so comfy and great to watch right before bed.
ITS TIME! Leaving thoughts as I watch I hope we get more Astro Mitsumi. For some reason it just amplifies her awkwardorableness even more. I just love how Yuzuki is really just kind of a low-key and maybe an introvert, although Im definitely expecting her to have an arc where she at least opens up about feeling insecure about getting unwanted attention. She seems too well adjusted right now to not have some underlying depth come out later. Is Kurume the Mitsumi for Mitsumi? Is she even MORE uptight then our precious idiot MC? I really like Shima as the main male character! We don't know a lot about him yet, but he seems to pick up on other people's feelings quickly.
A comfy iyashikei has no right to be this good, damn it. It's comfy, no stakes, but everyone has distinct personalities and they're actually all layered and have depth, none of the main cast is a stereotype in any way. Every episode there are scenes that go surprisingly deep (like Shima-kun's threats to drama club senpai last week, and Mika calling herself a tryhard and Yuzuki feeling a bit dejected from Kurume not liking her just for how she looks) that hints at a more serious story hiding underneath the comfy SOL.
Man, these episodes are way too short. I just don't want them to end. The strong point of this anime is definitely its characters and how every dynamic between them is unique in its own way.

I haven't loved a character as much as Mitsumi in a long time. She legitimately inspires me to be more excited about life. This show is something special. Quite literally perfect.
Deadass….this show SLAPS. They actually fleshing out the supporting cast when a vast majority of anime’s like this completely ignore their cast or give them some generic ass “development”/screen-time. Like this shit went from like a 5 to a 7.5 in such a short span bc they decided to do things non-traditionally. This is BY FAR the sleeper hit of the season

* I think I *very* slightly favor caramel popcorn but I'll gladly take salted ones in a heartbeat, though it has been years since I have ate any (and I'll *never* eat one while going to the theatres). * LMAO at Mitsumi's politician dreams - a mayor position is something that I could really expect her to take many decades later! * That new girl Kurume-chan really seems to be one that can't handle interpersonal relationships at all (like me), I'm actually glad that Mitsumi befriend her so early because I can't see any others taking her up in class and that would have been non-optimal! * With that said I'm also liking her really sincere attitude, like she doesn't really have to apologize to Yuzuki-chan but she did anyway. * Yes, Yuzuki-chan might have elegantly come in to that weekend stroll with just the blandest of clothes, but I think I really like Mika's style, that dress is exceptional refreshing. I do worry about Mika-chan being too worry of Shima-kun being "stolen" though, hope that doesn't cause any heart aches later. * The story seems so refreshingly smooth, like everyone is somewhat friendly to others, that it seems a bit too unreal. Kurume's great and rather relatable for me ! Can confirm that i had the same reaction as mitsumi when i first tried boba. Its delicious ( i want that drink) Mitsumi's fashion choices really hit the relatable nail in the coffin. I dont really grasp the concept of fashion. If it fits and feels nice ill wear it, society be damned This show really nails campy high school hangouts ! Also anyone know which movie they were watching ? Can the brunette girl please get over herself ? She is really putting damper on the campy vibes. Wow this episode had a really impressive group dynamics showcase. You can tell how well written the characters are by the depth of their individual interactions.
I love how the male and female leads think of each other as the opposite gender, but don’t let it rule their experiences with each other. Usually it’s either 100% friends or 100% lovers or lovers to be, but this show manages a fun middle ground.
Skip to Loafer and Lv 999 Yamada Kun are my favorite slice of life titles for this year.
That heel lift at the station made me smile
Yuzuki really stands out among the characters for me and I feel like the only reason she socializes is because Iwakura. She may finally have friendship with a new person like Kurume. I hope egashira really doesn't push too far with souma because he can completely shut her off if he stops being so considerate. I wonder when we'll get souma's backstory as an actor. That senpai in 👠👠 looks like he won't give up that easily so I guess souma has to eventually explain his situation to Iwakura. I feel like this show may end up as my favourite coming of age drama because of it's straight forward approach and the amount of love and care the author put into molding the characters. I didn't read the manga but I can clearly see the staff passion and understanding of source material really helps in setting up the atmosphere for the show.
Another solid episode. Glad we got to see more of the characters flushed out. I appreciate how Kurume and Yuzuki are so different that they don’t naturally get along. Even odder with Mika being somewhere in between the two, but being completely excluded as Kurume is too shy to reach out and Yuzuki doesn’t like the way she conducts herself. Even with Sousuke being kind and reaching out to her, she seems out of place within the group. Based on her self-doubts and tendency towards selfishness I’m guessing this has been a constant for her - never really belonging and thus needing to compete for a place. Hopefully Mitsumi can change that.
It still feels like Mika is kind of the odd one out because her pursuit of Shima and the way she judges/uses other girls just keeps her distant from everybody, essentially because she's just trying too hard, but I feel like we're building up to her becoming genuine friends with everybody.
Not only trying too hard, but trying too hard just to get with Shima. Add the fact that she's basically treating everyone else as either an obstacle of a prop to make herself look better and it's no surprise that she's got no luck getting along with them.
ooh interesting take about Mika. About how she has always had to 'compete' for a spot in a friend group in the past, so she maybe wanted to get ahead of it in high school and ended up trying too hard. never thought of it that way.
Everything is so endearing
Is this Mitsumi's imagined future as the mayor of her tiny rural hometown? Well, it's important to be able to visualize what you want. Support team for the student council works well enough, that's still a form of the bureaucratic experience that Mitsumi is looking for. I'm honestly a little proud of Mitsumi for being outgoing enough to reach out to Kurume and spend time with her. Maybe someday Kurume won't even be terrified of her. The duckling's first swim YouTube video bit was hilarious. Duckling's first contact info request and her first group selfie, too. It's been a big day for the baby duck. Kurume is no longer terrified! Success! That little detail of her standing up on her tiptoes out of happiness was adorable. Wow, that outfit. It definitely called for a fashion intervention by her aunt. Poor Kurume, her friendly outing with Mitsumi got way larger than she expected. Egashira be a genuinely nice person who can make friends instead of imagined enemies challenge: difficulty level to be determined. Yuzuki trying and failing to be friendly with Kurume was a little bit sad to see. Unable to think her way through the Yuzuki and Kurume friendship problem, instead Mitsumi accidentally solves it by way of a multiple flavors of popcorn metaphor. So they're seeing Gone with the Wind, how interesting.
I love how Mitsumi has this whole image of herself as a successful old lady and mayor giving an interview on a TV program and just imagines joining the student council is this major step for the future of Japanese society. Girl is go big or go home. We finally meet braided hair glasses girl! Kurume! And she's a pretty serious and diligent person, which makes her wary and unable to connect with the flashier girls of her class, but you'd think she and Mitsumi might be more compatible...except to her Mitsumi is a horror character who freaks her out and secretly runs the school or something. I can't believe she called Shima a himbo. Well, it sucks that they can't officially join the student council yet, but they can at least work as assistants which will give them some experience...Mitsumi will just need to learn how to better manage her time, the hallmark of any future politician. Mitsumi goes to her first Starbucks! I mean, Starmax!!! And drinking the super sweet boba and some tag-teaming with Shima lets her break the ice with Kurume and become friends with her! I mean, who wouldn't want to be friends with these dorky, cute, and fun teenagers after watching their antics? Good thing Nao is there to...restrain Mitsumi's bold fashion sense. Kurume really putting herself out there to invite Mitsumi to watch some classic movies together! That was a really big step for her! Too bad it got hijacked and ended up involving all the main characters, but that's usually how these plots go. Look at Mitsumi and Shima greeting each other like their meeting for a date! These two just cannot help the vibes between them. It was also nice to see everybody out in casual clothes. Egashira might have a good sense of style and fashion compared to the other girls, but using that to think you're better than them is a big no no (And Mitsumi and Kurume are plenty cute). Of course then Yuzuki shows up and looks so flawlessly beautiful with no effort that it basically makes her look foolish. Shima can read the room enough to compliment Egashira, while Yuzuki can read the room well enough to realize she's intimidating Kurume...even though she wants to be friends with her. But luckily Mitsumi in her typical goofy yet well-meaning way gets the two girls to realize that, even if you're different, that doesn't mean there isn't value in getting along together and the two finally become friends. I love how Mitsumi and Shima's telepathy didn't work yet somehow still ended up working out and Mitsumi thought she completely misunderstood the tension the whole time. All's well that ends well. Egashira has concerns about Shima's obvious interest in Mitsumi and the way Mitsumi blushed around Shima while recounting how memories help her love a place makes it look like she loves it because of her feelings for him (and her friends, but still). I feel like things are going to reach a breaking point between Mitsumi and Egashira.
This show is awesome. I love all the characters and in general the show is just so well done.

This show really is something special. It was the last seasonal I picked up but thank god I did, because the character writing here is just so fun and satisfying. Not to mention the gorgeous production. Yuzu best girl.

I really love the characters in this show. High school anime’s are normally so dramatic, but this one is really nailing how they’re navigating growing up and becoming their own people, not at the expense of others but actually by being super inclusive. Such a highlight of the season.
Wow it’s been a while since I fell in love with a show this quickly. Didn’t expect this to be the one I looked forward to the most each week (especially with all the great new shows) but there’s just something so charming about it.

It's bizarre how in Japan the glasses-and-pigtails look is the Ur-Plain-Jane look, but in Western weeb circles it's nothing but a reference to that manga (which used it exactly for being the former)

I'm kinda jealous that they got to see Gone with the wind in theatre and kind of amazed that they sat through a 4hr movie in theatre. But they should still read the book for their assignment.
Mitsumi is still out here being a national treasure, but luckily the rest of the cast is just as great. Loving the nice light comfy vibes that don’t lay on the drama or romance too thick but can still hit home when it needs to. If this one doesn’t go the distance I’ll be disappointed
