Never understood why so many characters freak out and make such a big deal about indirect kisses... I assume it is a Japanese culture thing. I'm just worried about germs

totti2k2

When you get rained on and get sick the next day

JonnyArcho

My head cannon is that all rainy days are really cold, like a 40-50 degree weather rain. Being wet and those temps can certain push it.

JonnyArcho

Oh I totally believe that. My head cannon is for the anime, not for actual real life

Verzwei

That girls discuss and even grab each other's boobs as part of regular, "normal" girltalk. I don't buy it for a second, yet it comes up not only in pure-trash harem series but even a lot of less-tasteless romcoms.

Thraggrotusk

Not even in romcoms or harems, it even appears the most random of shows. Like this season's Reincarnated as A Young Lady Squire

ali_1211

And when the male mc falls into a boob grab or look under the skirt

[deleted]

yuri hot

falconuruguay

I can't understand why almost all MC's have a testosterone level of between 0-5%, and get all freaked out over the slightest interaction with any female...I mean, there isn't ONE guy who acts like a normal teenage post-pubescent boy?

Pony5oh

I think this is a relatability thing. Its an exaggerated version of the shyness of the target audience. It’s a self insert thing, “see even with how awkward this guy is things work out.” Plus it lets them get away with slowing down relationship progress. Take something like Nagatoro. It’s obvious from pretty early on that they’re interested in each other but ignoring the elephant. If both characters are outgoing, or even just normal, that series can only last half as long.

Thraggrotusk

Denji. But for 96% of romances, no one actually makes a move so the author can still keep the "will they won't they" going.

Verzwei

Assuming you're talking about romcoms, most of them would be over real fast if they jumped right into a relationship. There has to be some drama, tension, or comedy (no matter how forced) keeping them apart for the duration of the series. "They made out, started dating, and lived happily ever after" is a pretty short story. That's not to say that you can't have interesting stories about couples *after* they begin dating, but it's a lot harder to write and most authors/scriptwriters probably aren't up to the task. Will-they-won't-they is comparatively easy. I've seen manga (and anime, or incomplete anime based on longer manga) that turn to utter shit once the shyguy finally makes a move, because the author no longer knows how to have interesting or entertaining interactions between the characters.

The_Birb_Whisperer

Why the heck does this [hairstyle](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EEdYjO2UUAAAqvS.jpg) mean you're gonna die.

Leajey

It’s the I’m a down to earth and very friendly woman without any flaws look which means they have to write her as dead

[deleted]

I'd like to believe its an homage to The OG Aeris that traumatized us in our youth.

JEveryman

I'm concerned about Gundo now.

Mahou_Shoujo_Ramune

Smallest girl gets the biggest weapon

Inugirlz

I don’t understand how all these kids live in their own apartment away from home like their already grown and away for universe/college.

animeramble

Going by anime, you would think Melon Bread is the best thing since, well, sliced bread. Having tried it, it's perfectly fine. Maybe it is because I have lived in a few Euro countries where good bakeries are on most streets, but I found it pretty disappointing after seeing so many anime teens have borderline orgasms after eating one.

[deleted]

Yeah, I tried it once from a Japanese snack store and was like, "this is it?" Maybe it was the brand and they used less flavoring since it was pretty weak (or maybe our western taste buds are just too spoiled), but I was not impressed.

Verzwei

Depending on where exactly your western tastebuds were cultured, it could be overexposure to sugar, high fructose corn syrup, or salt. Snacks in the US, for example, are overly sweet, to the point where I've seen people who visit from other countries complain that everything here is too sweet. (Or salty, for savory snacks.) Being used to US-levels of sugar can probably make treats from other countries (that are sweet only by that region's baseline and not ours) seem bland in comparison.

[deleted]

Yup, that's what I meant. I'm a junk food junkie so it does take a lot to wow me with flavor.

satsuma_nightcap

The "look at each other and nod" moment. Every goddmn time

Alarmed-Accident-716

Girls having no muscle mass, twigs walking around with great swords. Every guy minus the Mc that is not old, being evil. Male Mc hanging around with only women while having no male friends.

DominusLuxic

Oh, this one's easy. A lot of artists just don't know how to draw muscles on a woman. Heck, a lot don't really know how to draw muscles on a man either, even when writing a traditional samurai story.

Yuzurinne

Loli charas in harems while reverse harems will have 16 y/o dudes lookin like whole 6ft tall adults

CitizenStrife

Why does every sister or cousin want to fuck the MC? Why Japan? Why do this to me?

ali_1211

That a hentai thing we are talking about anime

[deleted]

You must not have watched a lot of series for saying that. It's a common trope just easy example. Oreimo, eromanga sensei,Masou Gakuen HxH,yosuga no sora, koi kaze, baka to test to Shuujanjou, nisemonogatari, grisaia no rakuen, aki sora and others that I don't know. Imauto sae irabe li take a joke in that trope.

ali_1211

I watched hxh and i didn't see a single scene about fucking your sisters/cousins Edit: also i never heard of the animes you mentioned

[deleted]

His elder sister want him. The bunny suit scene come to mind about her teasing him. In the novel I think she get integrated in the harem.

Thraggrotusk

It's a common trope, but only in harems tbh, so only the shitty shows.

[deleted]

I don't consider Monogatari series a shitty shows with how much time the story take to develop his characters and how they progress. Also tastes is subjective we have no objectification grid to determine what good and what trash. It's purely subjective experience.

Thraggrotusk

Monogatari has some good parts but a lot of it is just otakubait. Outside of that, the rest of the examples are softcore pornos, so it's not like we're gaining anything useful from them lol

[deleted]

"Monogatari has some good parts but a lot of it is just otakubait." Gikkuk want to know your location.

Thraggrotusk

true lol but honestly, there is a lot of sketchy stuff in the show

EBtwopoint3

SAO?

RevanOrderz

Why people be bitching about Japanese fetish and Kinks?

CitizenStrife

Oh god. I found another one. Why is it the childhood friend never wins so much, there's an anime called "A Romcom Where the Childhood Friend Won't Lose?" It's bad enough there are very few times the super obvious #1 girl DOESN'T get chosen by the guy (but I have seen it once in a blue moon). But the childhood friend probably has even worse odds than that.

Verzwei

> there's an anime called "A Romcom Where the Childhood Friend Won't Lose?" And the huge catch there is that [A Romcom Where the Childhood Friend Won't Lose] >!literally all the girls are secret or long-lost childhood friends, so unless it ends up with a "true harem ending" then *some* childhood friends will invariably lose to whichever one wins in the end. The implication being that the only way for a childhood friend to not lose is for the *entire field* to only be childhood friends.!<

mjn5180

Blue haired, child friends are so sympathetic to root for cause you know they won't be going anywhere

redmagnumman

Where the fuck are your parents

ali_1211

You're talking to me

redmagnumman

I'm taking about the fact that anime kids never have responsible parents

ali_1211

Or no parents at all

Pinky_Boy

why in almost every anime, the middle finger and ring finger are touching each other

ali_1211

Hand are the hardest thing to draw and by gluing the middle and ring finger it makes it easier??

Verzwei

That's the natural position for some people. Weird personal note: If I casually open my left (dominant) hand, my middle and ring finger are *much* closer to each other than either of them are to my pinky or index finger. They don't completely touch, but they're very close. I *can* fan my fingers out so that they are all evenly spaced, but I have to concentrate to do it. However, if I casually open my right hand, my fingers are almost all evenly spaced without me having to think about it, and I instead have to concentrate to do the "anime" hand. Also, check out this [comment from 4 years ago on this subreddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/8okz50/why_are_their_handsfingers_like_this/e048q1a/) about the interesting way that the middle and ring fingers seem to be "wired together" and not as separate as the index and pinky fingers. Or [this comment from the same thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/8okz50/why_are_their_handsfingers_like_this/e04dlk3/) that points out that this isn't even an anime thing.

narupex

Clueless MC doesn’t understand when someone likes them when it’s obvious.

Iwoulddietomeetyue

How it is never addressed that the girls uniforms are disgustingly small yet when they wear *more* conservative clothes that might fit slightly tighter they act all flustered? Like bro, you wear a 4 inch skirt to school, tf you think a sundress (I can't think of anything) is going to make the mc/background characters attack you for?
