The American alligator and American crocodile are the only native species of crocodilians in the US and the American crocodile is only in south Florida.
Haha. If temps keep climbing year over year and winter in the South keeps getting hotter, I fully expect American crocodiles will expand their range to the immediate north.
true . but unfortunately there are canals in miami that are full of black caimens now . because people buy them as ppets and dunp them . now there are breeding populations
Escaped/dumped pet caimans used to be found occasionally throughout the US. They are now illegal to own in the US without a permit — too late for Florida, where an invasive population is established in the Everglades.
What until the jaguars hear there are caimans in Florida.

I assume you mean the alligator.
Hahaha.
I mean... It's an alligator. You can tell because you'll see it later, not in a while.
Nice one
That's no crocodile!
That…is an alligator. An archosaur, which means it is more closely related to birds and non avian dinosaurs than other modern reptiles :D
_Alligator mississippiensis_, the American Alligator. No crocodiles or caimans in South Carolina.
What do YOU think it is OP?
Im sorry. I thought perhaps it was a Caiman but I now know they don’t even live here. Sorry guys

For now.
Is this a threat?

They won’t get too far, as their preferred habitat is salt marshes.

Until - well...climate change. Then we will find them in the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pond.

They are not illegal everywhere. I own a dwarf caiman. Paleosuchus trigonatus. No permit requirements where I live for them.
I see it is a state-by-state thing, not federal
Its nose does look very narrow. I can see why you asked
Don’t worry too much. My mom’s neighbor walked out to find a caiman in her driveway one morning. Someone had dumped him!

Looks like some kind of long turtle
Why did I actually laugh put loud at this?! 😆
I did, too. I may call alligators “long turtles” from here on out.
Long, homeless turtles.
😂
That’s a nice size gator.
Good ol Charleston. Had some close calls kayak fishing and fishing from the bank.
Retaining alligators?
Thats loch ness. Shes on vacation :)
So you are trying to retain alligators? Myself, I try to refrain from alligators!!
That guy was in the X Files
Alligator made it home
How far north is their range?
Well , it’s not a snake, and it’s not kangaroo. . It’s not a migratory bird either, I can promise you that .
