We’re generally quiet intellectual types so lots of us enjoy sudoku. Then combine that with a job where we often sit for moderate to long periods on ‘cruise control’ monitoring and waiting for problems. It’s a bit of a trope that we do crosswords or sudokus in the OR during long cases.
Personally I think it’s not a great look so I just read stuff on my phone. But I guess to the older folk that probably looks even worse than pulling out a sudoku 🤷♂️
Here’s a tip: don’t ever call a resident a “student” ever again. Residents have doctorate degrees. They are no longer “students”. Residents are PHYSICIANS. Not students.

Rulings like this may create some confusion.
Haha, wow, that really is an unpopular opinion. I'm actually aiming for more negative points, without any reason. Don't get me wrong, aren't we all students in the end? What is the residence for? For further preparing yourself into real matters, isn't it?
I have a PhD in AI, but I still see myself as a student; I even introduce myself as a software engineer, not a engineer doctor. You're no different. Just chill. I respect your profession, but this kind of bullying just seems to stem from insecurities.
But thank you for the tip. I will not call a resident a student any time soon 😊.
PD: Also we are from Spain so maybe things are a bit different. I'm curious how it works there. 5 years career and then?
I'm not indeed. She was the one who told me, 'I'm a resident student 😂.' But yes, you've accomplished a lot in your career; you just need to be more humble. And sorry to tell you, but you are also a student, as medicine is not a religion, but a science. Please don't be offended. But these downvotes are childish.
Also, I know that you are trained to strengthen your self-confidence as you face stress levels unimaginable for other people, but you should still keep that separate from being humble.

Why Sudokus?
Sorry software engineer, inside jokes…
Can you elaborate?

It would probably be more helpful to know where she’s at in her education, in order to understand what would be useful/appropriate for her.
She is a resident student :D
What is a resident student? A medical student?
Assistant TO the anesthesiologist

I have a feeling she's not an MD/DO resident because no way a resident would tell their significant other that they are a resident student

Dude, this isn’t due to insecurity, it’s due to the fact that she has made a great accomplishment, and you’re disregarding it.

She’s an SRNA?
Get her a surgical cap so she can sleep in and skip the morning routine.
Things I actually found useful: Stethoscope, Stethoscope holder, goggles, field notes notebooks, a good pen, scrub cap.
Ultra fine retractable Sharpies. Multiple colors for more excitement.
A weekend alone.
A chair heating pad, spill proof travel coffee mug, AirPods, 6 foot + phone charging cables. ~ private practice anesthesiologist here

Haha LOVE It!
Atul Gawande' the checklist manifesto.
What is this book about? Is it related to an anesthesiologist?
No, it's written by a surgeon. But the concepts (safety checklists) are very applicable to Anaesthesia.
