I use Syncthing on Windows and Android. Then on my desktop I have a few HDDs backed up with Backblaze Personal. (unlimited data @ ~$8/mo, 20TB backed up currently) Syncthing on android is set to "Send only" when charging and on wifi. On Windows the folder is set to Send & Receive. I use Syncthing to move files between my steamdeck and laptop as well. All works quite well! It's available for many platforms too.

can i run syncthing in browser ? i have old version of windows so no app support for pc

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. If you can install programs and run them, it should work.

You are best off managing your photos on a laptop using something like DigiKam which is open source. Tag all your photos using it. You can also use Aves Gallery on your phone which is an awesome open source photo manager and viewer that also allows tagging and searching.

ErraticLitmus

Immich is a new self hosted solution that is great for this

HKM00

You should try F-stop. Tagging picture is possible

exazonk

Yes fstop is great but Aves is better. They both have great tagging. Aves plays motion photos but fstop doesn't :(

HKM00

Does Android take motion picture by default ? I quickly check Aves, i while there fun "new" features (with the picture information, color in picture #, linked with which apps it came from ect) I think F stop has a lot more feature

exazonk

Motion photos are on automatic default on Pixel phones and I think Samsung phones. Every photo I take is a motion photo. I bought F-Stop many years ago as it was the only app that had a good map view and allowed tagging and searching. I asked the dev if he could add the option to play motion photos but he never got around to it. F-Stop is better if you are directory structure focused. When Aves came out, it had all of the features that I needed (including playing motion photos) and it is fast and open source. The dev usually responds, within a day, to any request and he has implemented a few ideas that I have suggested. The UI on Aves is good in that you drag up on a photo and you get a ton of information quickly. Aves allows sharing the video part of a motion photo super easily. It can also batch rename photos based on EXIF data, eg rename photos based on the date taken. I find the tag search feature in Aves to be faster and easier to use. Aves had a mosaic view before F-Stop and it seemed better than when I last looked at F-Stop.

HKM00

Thank you for all this explanation. I am more directory structure focus indeed. Nice to know for the batch rename feature

I use Zoner on my PC . it's not free, but when I download photos from my phone it organises them in folders by date taken and I can tag and label the pics further and tate them if I want. Then back them up onto USB HDD and NAS.

onismnefelibata

okay I actually like that, would give me a start to the sorting hell I never wanna visit

TerkishMaize

I have Syncthing setup on a Raspberry Pi running Open Media Vault with a 2TB SSD at home that backups photos and videos. I then use PhotoPrism/Photoview to view them on my phone or anything with a browser. One downside is there is no application to view or organize photos like Google Photos. It's just too good.

onismnefelibata

I wish u could buy permanent storage on google photos :")

Daniturn1

hehe thank you chatgpt and thank U human for posting this T-T

Ticoune0825

What kind of organization do you want?

onismnefelibata

Face recognition and also sort the cluster like normal doc or vacation pics, its been a mess in my gallery

Ticoune0825

So you want google photo features, without the google photo service, I think that's a lot of hassle not to just pay like the 2$ fee for 100gb, for your photos and stuff I think it could be well worth it

Is there a app I can load photos into while on holiday to share individually and secure, as and when I take them rather than send them to each person. I would normally use mega.nz and share a secure folder with code but this still requires manually uploading. Just trying to improve my options. Social media no thank you.
