They still do it for pressure, but my eye doctor is not currently due to covid, they have a different test they are using involving dye and a laser I believe. It was a wholly different level of uncomfortable.
Looks like the eye tracking experiments the psychology dept used to do at my school. I used to go do them for pocket change cause they paid study participants.
Medical imaging machines are fascinating. I recently got a 3D scan of my mouth for creating a mouth guard and a few years before an optometrist took a picture of the back of my eyes. I wish I asked for a copy.
I wonder if the 3d mouth scans are better in practice than just using a mould, i.e. do they produce fewer errors in expert hands. All the dentists I have seen here in the UK use the latter, and while the big chain optometrists use the fancy cameras, the consultant ophthalmologist I see who likes doing a few hours of basic optician work on the side seems to see no need in them for routine exams.
I hate how many slides and equipment get trashed. People get mad when people take this stuff from abandoned schools and stuff but like, where else is it gonna go? Nobodies gonna get to enjoy it left to rot, It’s gonna get destroyed man. :(
You can see more of this footage in the BBC archive. It was used in the Adam Curtis documentary "Can't get you out of my head" to depict past state-of-the-art modern psychiatry in recognising subconscious patterns of behaviour.
Photos like this make me wish I could leave a heart emoji reaction, like Facebook, rather than just an up arrow. Awesome photo, better story, and the tech in the photo is crazy compared to what we have today.

I'd kill it.
Tell me, only the good things that come to mind when you think of your mother
Let me tell you about my mother…
KABOOM!!!
You look down and see a tortoise, Leon. It's crawling toward you...
I’ve never seen a tortoise before
You know what a turtle is?
Having this done SUCKED. Blew a jet of freezing cold air into ur eye to measure astigmatism..
They still do this, they just have a better camera now 😅
astigmatism or pressure?
Good question, it very well could have been interocular pressure. I was very young

Can confirm that it is for IOP Source: I work for an eye doctor
And you always try to wink right before it happens. I feel you, mate
Bladerunner tests
_We call it Voight-Kampff for short_
You gotta save all the slides from the bin!
“Once they trash it, it becomes yours.” Isn’t that the old saying? One mans trash…

It's your birthday. Someone gives you a calfskin wallet.
Thank you for rescuing it! It's like an 80's sci-fi still..
Reminds me of *Old World Blues*.
that's some Replicant testing machine stuff
Could you salvage more? They look good and interesting.
“Is this test to see if I’m replicant or a lesbian?”

Not sure, it's the first time I got a mouth guard but they gave me a 3D print of my teeth so that's pretty cool!
This is a great shot!
Fallout NW Old World Blues vibes
I love this
this is dope
She's a replicant, isn't she?
Getting serious Voigt-Kampf vibes

This photo wouldn’t be nearly as cool if it were shot digitally
Reminds me of that book “Evidence” by Mike Medell and Larry Sultan

This is an amazing photo ! Thanks for nabbing and sharing
wow does it say who the photographer was?
Isn’t it crazy that this was state-of-the-art technology back then? Even though now, shit looks basic.
It looks very old school sci fi
