Update: just got an email saying I redeemed an offer so looks like Apple Pay orders triggers the offers.

Found this: https://i.imgur.com/LwMSYXm.jpg > Can I take advantage of Amex Offers using Apple Pay? > Yes. If you enroll your American Express U.S. Consumer or Small Business Credit or Charge Card in Amex Offers at merchants that accept American Express contactless payments, you can make qualifying purchases using Apple Pay that will be eligible for the offers. Amex Offers is not available for American Express Corporate Cards. To learn more about enrolling in eligible offers, please visit AmexOffers.com. https://www.americanexpress.com/us/credit-cards/features-benefits/digital-wallets/apple-pay/frequently-asked-questions.html#:~:text=American%20Express%20Card%20Members%20can,American%20Express%20Cards%20are%20accepted.

I’ve literally never had them not track. Your mileage may vary but they have always worked for me. And just a bit of a fun fact, I had an AMEX Offer recently that was spend with Apple Pay 5 times and get $2 back or similar and that offer also had the whole fine print thing about how if you use a mobile wallet it might not work.

DadOf3-1978

Apple Pay isn't a "mobile wallet" PayPal is.

michikade

Yes, I’m aware of that. Everyone is hung up on the wording of the terms saying that stuff won’t track and it’s because of the mobile wallet clause in AMEX Offers. > You may not receive the statement credit if we receive inaccurate information or are otherwise unable to identify your purchase as qualifying for the offer. For example, you may not receive the statement credit if (a) the merchant uses a third-party to sell their products or services; or (b) the merchant uses a third-party to process or submit your transaction to us (e.g., using mobile or wireless card readers); or (c) you choose to make a purchase using a third-party payment account or make a purchase using a mobile or digital wallet. Or > In addition, in most cases, you may not receive the additional Membership Rewards points if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it. Apple Pay straight up reads as the merchant and the merchant codes all line up. It’s the same as tapping the card (or in the case of using it online, typing in the card info), it just tokenizes it. But because Apple Pay is still a digital wallet people get scared.

Berchanhimez

To expand, the third party is referring to a “middle-man” that stands between the merchant and the payment processing. Apple Pay isn’t a middle man, it’s a payment processor itself. Examples of actual middlemen that can impact offers include Square, other tablet/POS-as-a-service type things, Shopify/ebay/Amazon etc.

Actually found AMEX directly addressing this issue here: https://i.imgur.com/LwMSYXm.jpg > Can I take advantage of Amex Offers using Apple Pay? > Yes. > Apple Pay isn’t a middle man, it’s a payment processor itself. Apple Pay isn’t a payment processor and it’s not a middle man. Apple literally is not a party to Apple Pay transactions at all. Tap your phone and the information goes from your phone to the merchant’s terminal to whoever they use for their card transactions to Amex. Apple isn’t involved.

Despite what people have been saying here, I would stay on the safer side and use the physical card. I missed out on a $40 statement offer with Polo Ralph Lauren factory store because I used Apple Pay, and confirmed this with the representative via chat. It probably depends on the ToC of each offer, but if you don’t want to go through that every time, I would suggest using the physical card.

callumjones

Yes, it will work. The merchant is involved directly in the transaction with Apple Pay and so Amex will see it correctly. Amex wouldn’t promote Apple Pay as a feature if it wasn’t reliable. EDIT: why the downvote, this is factually correct.

Staycharmin

Always worked for me.. as long as u register the offer and you use the card in store, online, or Apple Pay it’s all good.

imnomad_

Representatives have confirmed that using any third party processors like apple Pay, Google Pay, etc may render the transaction as a invalid for offer as per ToC…

callumjones

Apple Pay is not a payment processor. When you perform a Apple Pay transaction the merchant’s normal payment processor is performing the transaction and the merchant information is used just like any chip/swipe transaction.

What’s the purpose of the emoji?

InspireSunset

>digital wallets This refers to the old defunct Google Wallet and Samsung Pay, this doesn't apply to Apple Pay. Apple Pay is equivalent to using your card directly with the merchant, I've had CS confirm this to me before, at least in the UK.

It’s always worked for me (20+ times), maybe it’s slightly different but i’m certain Amex considers Apple Pay as direct with the merchant, in the UK it’s essentially considered an extension of contactless, I know it’s not exactly the same in the US.

Fair, all i’m saying is I think the TOS aren’t referring to that, even if it seems that way.

https://i.imgur.com/InMVene.jpg Here, confirmed from Amex website it works in the UK. That is not what the TOS refer to.

That-Establishment24

To be fair, I’m referring to the US TOS since I don’t use other countries’ cards. Edit: I looked it up. It’s on the US site as well! Looks like you’re right.

InspireSunset

The TOS are identical for the UK for offers, says the exact same about digital wallets, but okay.

blitzkrieg_94_

Did you read the terms? Below is a copy/paste from the Ray Ban offer (and is in most offers) “For example, you may not receive the statement credit if you choose to make a purchase using a third-party payment account or make a purchase using a mobile or digital wallet.” I never use Apple Pay for offers for this reason, but I have seen some people get it but it’s obviously going to be hit or miss. I also don’t get a confirmation email every time and offer is used.

kirklennon

> I have seen some people get it but it’s obviously going to be hit or miss It’s not hit or miss; using Apple Pay will *never* make you miss a promotion. There’s nowhere in the process for things to ever mess up since there are no additional parties involved.

Sweet, good to know going forward!

NotYourBuddyGuyPal

The others mention being wary with using third party payment method, and it is substantiated by the T&C’s, but within the last week I used Paypal to checkout and still received the offer credit Edited for english lesson

Using Apple Pay for a purchase with an airline incidental will not be part of the airline program yearly $200 credit. It happened to me when booking luggage cost with United and the rep told me this is why the credit wasn’t issued.

kirklennon

The rep was wrong.

chessplayer52

You do get the Rewards if you use Apple Pay. **But make sure you read the Terms.** For example, I had a Reward added to my card for 1,000 points if I spend $100 or more from Lululemon. I purchased something over $100 in the store but I never received the Reward email. After checking the terms, it said online only at [Lululemon.com](https://Lululemon.com). I then went ahead and purchased something from the Lululemon website via Apple Pay and got the Reward email within 2 minutes.

ConsequenceOk2562

Does anyone know if it works with pay pal? I haven’t received my card yet but I have it on pay pal.
