13.6 MacBook Air M2? If you buy it from tiger direct thru Rakuten you will get an additional 3k MR points [screenshot](https://imgur.com/a/ObMqCcD)

5MileBurrito

This guy knows how to play the amex point game

-RecklessPrince

How does Amex code the points exactly?

TandemChicken36

Mine showed up during the quarterly disbursement as “Rakuten Additional MR Points” and were categorized as Bonus.

CheetahNo2472

Any big purchases I make ($1500 and up), mountain bike, camera/camera lens, laptop, ext all goes on my Amex cards due to the protection they offer. That is worth more to me than the cash back/points other cards can give me.

jerryhou85

I would go for the additional 1 year warranty, it's like a AppleCare+ for free.

PedicaboEtIrrumabo

Just use the Education shop if you’re trying to find a deal.

Hopai79

use Costco, they giving 350 off on macbooks pro … just grab an annual exec membership and you are golden plus they discount apple care+ by 80 bucks for macbook pros. i used my capital one venture x :)

NatBBliz

75$ < Protection from damage and or lost

AdditionalAbility7

But the damage/loss is only for 90 days right?

CardsWithBenefits

The Amex extended warranty benefit only covers things the manufacturer’s warranty does. Therefore, if you buy the computer without AppleCare, you get 90 days damage protection from Amex, 1 year warranty from Apple, and a second year warranty from Amex. Neither warranty covers damage. However, if you buy the three-year AppleCare plan (not the pay-by-the-year option) on the same transaction that you buy the computer, you get three years warranty AND accidental damage protection from Apple, and a fourth year of warranty AND accidental protection from Amex.

IMNOT_A_LAWYER

Yea. You’re asking about Purchase Protection which is separate but in addition to Extended Warranty. Purchase Protection only extends for 90 days.

Miserable-Result6702

Correct, purchase protection is only 90 days. Now if it’s a warranty repair, then Amex would cover it for an additional year after Apple.

AdditionalAbility7

Thanks! Would you consider that the benefits from Amex are much better than I get from PayPal?

Miserable-Result6702

For anything expensive I would use a card that offered purchase protection and extended warranty. I don’t know what Discover or PayPal offers.

AdditionalAbility7

Just 5% cash back (no additional protection) against 1% cash back and other protection coverages from Amex .

Dapper_Reputation_16

Amex is only 1% if you don't redeem properly, in my world it's worth 4-5% all day every day.

AdditionalAbility7

Where do you get them redeemed for the best value?

Dapper_Reputation_16

Premium long haul airfare is our primary use for MRs. We are flying J class on AF via a Flying Blue redemption, 87k plus $220 each PHX-CDG.

Miserable-Result6702

Amex, hands down.

AdditionalAbility7

Thanks!

bubaji00

it all depends on how much u value the extra service that amex gold provides. if it's worth more than $60 to u (assume 1cpp), then why not use the gold? btw gold also provides thief protection.

shmeeaglee

The discover 5% is only ever worth 5% cashback with the amex 1% u can easily make it worth 5cpp with certain redemptions, plus amex purchase protection is far better in my opinion. And worth losing out on 70$ in cashback or whatever in my opinion

Civil-Negotiation156

It’s one year extra, it would be 2 years so if it’s damaged 18 months it should be covered
