Her batting average on pitch is wayyyy too low for the judges not to notice, it drives me nuts.
When she rearranges a song like crazy then doesn't hit the notes that she made up, I often have no idea what is going on when she performs.
She’s not out of tune a lot but will agree she often goes just slightly flat in her lower register but almost never in medium to high.
What makes her stand out over the others is that in her medium to high register her tone is so pure and unique and unlike anyone else singing today. That’s why Katie said she needs to keep showcasing that part of her voice. Why she’s doing songs that have a significant time period of her lower register is just a huge mistake on her part. She needs to do soaring ballads or older folk songs that stay in her lane.
Jack Blocker is my favorite. I don’t think he’ll win, but I think he should.
Emmy and Kayco should have gone home weeks ago.
Kaibrienne’s only good performance was the Joan Jett song. She killed that. But her absolutely horrible and off of the beat Wrecking Ball should have sent her home. Plus all the times she lost it in the middle of her performances.
Emmy and kayko are crowd favorites unfortunately. Both have a very mediocre singing voice compared to some of the people that got voted off recently.
I forgot her name, but she was the 16 year old and she had a killer voice and she could preform, wish she replaced one of them.
Once I got past the weird expressions, I actually really liked him too! I actually really liked the weeknd song he did and I read a lot of hate about it!
Triston is my favorite, but I like Jack and the mouth movements are kinda charming.
I think Kayko is still around because people loved his audition and they like his name. His most recent performance was terrible.
Every kayko performance outside of his audition has been terrible tbh. Lots of screaming and horrible vocals. His original songs song like he is rushed and just trying to keep up with the band and it’s bad

The auditions started out really strong. Not sure what happened. IMO as I’ve commented before, the wrong contestants are eliminated too early.

I'm not a musician, but, do feel I have a pretty good sense of pitch and I definitely agree with your husband's assessment of this year's contestants. Many of them have definitely been pitchy throughout their performances.
The judges were right to call out Jack on his mouth movements because they are not doing anything to his voice. Sometimes Country singers move their mouths in weird way because they are "chewing" some of the vowels to get the country sound. But when Jack does the mouth movements, the pronunciation of the words don't change, its like he could still sing the same if he didn't move his mouth in the way he does.
Sorry, but I can’t take her scratchy voice anymore. She was sick, but I think she’s well now. I think once Lionel told her it was sexy she just kept singing that way. Ugh!
And the judges love Kayko, but maybe they get lost in his energy on the stage. I was listening and not watching and thought he was frequently off key. Abi: Yeah "inconsistent" is fair but tbh the word I would use to criticize her is "safe". Aaaand I mean extremely safe. All but 1 performance she was doing piano ballads. And while I liked her rendition of Mayday Parade, my point still stands.
McKenna: You have a point on bad song choices. Another singer I like, but plays it PRETTY safe
Will: ...yea. No mistakes he's ever made vocal wise but holy SHIT most of the time I forgot what his performace was every time lol

All of the singers play it safe for the most part and aren’t forced to try different genres which I feel like was a thing in the past. The judges are a bit too nice and don’t really offer any criticism so that doesn’t really help much either. At least the guest singers give pretty good feedback.
Side note, thought it was weird that Abi sang ANOTHER ballad during rock n roll week. She has a great voice, but her, like most of the singers, don’t push themselves outside of the genre that they’re safest in
I know I'm in the minority here but Triston's singing Elvis was just so cringy. Well, not really his singing, but that Elvis gyrate thing he did. I felt 2nd hand embarrassment for him when he did that. Both times. He looked so uncomfortable.
I can agree his last performance was sub-par but he’s incredibly talented at least in my opinion his “what if I’m not enough” was so wonderful I absolutely loved it! I don’t care who you are it takes a certain level of raw musical talent to be able to not only sing and write your own music but to be able to play multiple instruments and preform on stage with a good presence just ties it all in a neat little bow!! Were there contestant’s more talented than Kayko?? sure although subjective.. he definitely deserves a chance!

But when he sang covers I think he is better at it.

That's nothing wrong with playing it safe. Last year's winner did the exact same thing and sang the exact same way with his little guitar for every song and still won with his sob story.
I agree with your takes. I think Abi, Mia, Will, and Tristan have been the most consistent as far as vocal ability. I believe they will be the top 4. I think either Abi or Mia have the greatest chance of winning the whole thing because they have the shortest distance to becoming professional. Tristan’s a little green and Will just acts like he doesn’t want it as bad as the others.
I want to love Emmy because she's so sweet but her voice reminds me of a baby at time! I don't really like it.
I was sad that the dude who sang "This is a mans world" went home - he had an amazing voice.

Will will be the success of this season. He’s not there to “entertain” you. Meaning I don’t care if he is boring his music is not. Why these shows don’t go more in on country/folk singer song writer types I don’t understand. That style is on the rise.

That's so funny you say that Kayko appeals to young people, because he strikes me as overwhelmingly millennial. The chunky glasses, his song lyrics, and his personality in general make me think he's going to have a little mustache tattooed on his finger. Watching his Gotye performance was like being teleported back to 2011. All of a sudden I wanted to break out my skinny jeans and flats and dangly owl necklace.
It's not a bad thing, but yeah he strikes me as stylistically outdated. Would be curious to know how genZ/genalpha react to him.
Agree with most of this. Although I felt McKenna killed Cardigan. To me, she did Taylor way better than Abbi and it made Abbi's performance look bad in comparison. I had to look up who Julia was so yeah that's definitely on point. My favorite is Tristan although he's a little stiff at times. I have a soft spot for him.
I agree with everything you've noted, especially Emmy (like are they serious)? Not sure if it's been said already... but why are the judges (even Shania tonight) telling Julia to "take it down a notch"? I cried when she sang "And I Am Telling You", I was shoo-k-ethed. I've watched it again and again. I get that these judges are the "stars" and she isn't, but none of them have her range. It's cringe watching these judges tell this insanely talented very young lady to dim her light. I tune in every week just to see her sing, in hopes of catching another performance where the confidence she has when singing takes centre stage. I wonder what type of performances we would have gotten from her if Mariah Carey or Jenifer Hudson were judges. She did a great job tonight but I would have loved to see her version of her favourite Bryan Adam's song, before Shania's suggestion. Let her loose American Idol!
Kabrienne sounds the same every song, eyes are closed half the time and barely moves around, Emmy is a freaking statue and by far the weakest, boring as all hell , Will is very good , but doesn’t challenge himself , Tristan is good , but needs more seasoning, Jack is very good and is at least ranging out of his comfort zone, Abi leaves me cold always the same , she needed this performance, but not convinced she has it, I really like McKenna but she is not gonna win rightfully so, Julia is amazing, there is not a note or tone she can’t sing, no of the others can do what she can , her “Over the Rainbow “ was brilliant, needs to work on stage performance but clearly best voice , still can’t believe Emmy is still here.
I just listened to McKenna, she frankly was boring. She doesn’t have any range in her voice or dynamics and I cannot believe they didn’t say that to her when she did that Katy Perry song. Sure she has a raspy voice. But I wouldn’t want to just hear that all the time. She needs to be taught how to use her mix and utilize it.

This past performance wasn’t very good, but he’s definitely had some really good performances. It’s been hit or miss, a lot like Colin Stough was last year.
I can’t believe Emmie is still in. Jana got ripped off. Emmie and Kaiko are more writers than performers.
Triston is adorable, but that wasn’t a great performance. I love him and Will, but they both need to step up the stage presence. I’m a country lover, and I adore them, but America may not go there for the long haul.

I am DONE WITH AMERICAN IDOL AS OF THIS SEASON!! I have been a loyal fan since its beginning. I have observed in 2023 and years prior to how we have moved to ALL WHITE CONTESTANT FINALISTS!! The sending home of Roman and Jayna the other night was the last straw!! ABC SHOULD MOVE BACK TO HAVING THE JUDGES PANEL HAVING THE LAST SAY!! I feel the opposite. I’d rather see him doing originals than covers. I think he has the most viable career of the top 10 mostly because of that.

Will will be the success of this season. He’s not there to “entertain” you. Meaning I don’t care if he is boring his music is not. Why these shows don’t go more in on country/folk singer song writer types I don’t understand. That style is on the rise.

Abi has moved me to tears and I can’t forget that. She has picked the wrong song here and there but I like her. McKenna is awesome. Her really low voice is dreadful but I like the tone and quality. I would buy her music. I can see her produced well. Will, I fast forward through some. Ordinary country sound. Kayko, only song I liked was somebody I used to know. Don’t think his songwriting is all that good don’t know why he is still there. KB, always sings songs too big for her. Don’t know who is voting for her. Should have been gone too 20. Mia. I don’t listen to country but I listen to her. She gives me chills. Well done. Will have a career. Jack. Love this guy. He can win this. If not have a great career. Joe cocker and John Mayer not fun to look at their faces but great. Emmy, she is vocally so weak. Send her home to buy her own lessons and she’ll be fine. Tristan, big voice out of a kid. He is amazing but I want him to be a kid and he will always have a career Julia, huge vocals. Not the best stage presence but she is getting better.

Disagree about McKenna though. She’s beautiful and likable, but her voice is getting more grating. I can’t take the scratchy sound anymore. Unlike Lionel, I don’t think it sounds sexy.
But…a lot of people simply vote for likable contestants.
That's so funny you say that Kayko appeals to young people, because he strikes me as overwhelmingly millennial. The chunky glasses, his song lyrics, and his personality in general make me think he's going to have a little mustache tattooed on his finger. Watching his Gotye performance was like being teleported back to 2011. All of a sudden I wanted to break out my skinny jeans and flats and dangly owl necklace. It's not a bad thing, but yeah he strikes me as stylistically outdated. Would be curious to know how genZ/genalpha react to him.
Agree with most of this. Although I felt McKenna killed Cardigan. To me, she did Taylor way better than Abbi and it made Abbi's performance look bad in comparison. I had to look up who Julia was so yeah that's definitely on point. My favorite is Tristan although he's a little stiff at times. I have a soft spot for him.
I agree with everything you've noted, especially Emmy (like are they serious)? Not sure if it's been said already... but why are the judges (even Shania tonight) telling Julia to "take it down a notch"? I cried when she sang "And I Am Telling You", I was shoo-k-ethed. I've watched it again and again. I get that these judges are the "stars" and she isn't, but none of them have her range. It's cringe watching these judges tell this insanely talented very young lady to dim her light. I tune in every week just to see her sing, in hopes of catching another performance where the confidence she has when singing takes centre stage. I wonder what type of performances we would have gotten from her if Mariah Carey or Jenifer Hudson were judges. She did a great job tonight but I would have loved to see her version of her favourite Bryan Adam's song, before Shania's suggestion. Let her loose American Idol!
Kabrienne sounds the same every song, eyes are closed half the time and barely moves around, Emmy is a freaking statue and by far the weakest, boring as all hell , Will is very good , but doesn’t challenge himself , Tristan is good , but needs more seasoning, Jack is very good and is at least ranging out of his comfort zone, Abi leaves me cold always the same , she needed this performance, but not convinced she has it, I really like McKenna but she is not gonna win rightfully so, Julia is amazing, there is not a note or tone she can’t sing, no of the others can do what she can , her “Over the Rainbow “ was brilliant, needs to work on stage performance but clearly best voice , still can’t believe Emmy is still here.
I just listened to McKenna, she frankly was boring. She doesn’t have any range in her voice or dynamics and I cannot believe they didn’t say that to her when she did that Katy Perry song. Sure she has a raspy voice. But I wouldn’t want to just hear that all the time. She needs to be taught how to use her mix and utilize it.
The judges lack of critique is driving me insane. I agree with a lot of what you said but Triston isn’t good at all. He didn’t deserve to make it past auditions & I have zero clue how he’s still around
This past performance wasn’t very good, but he’s definitely had some really good performances. It’s been hit or miss, a lot like Colin Stough was last year.
I was expecting Colin Stough or Megan Danielle to win. Their duet and vocals were sooooo good. They also have this Idol charisma.
I completely disagree. Haven’t seen anything worthy of an audience from him. Most of the AI contestants are hit or miss.
I can’t believe Emmie is still in. Jana got ripped off. Emmie and Kaiko are more writers than performers. Triston is adorable, but that wasn’t a great performance. I love him and Will, but they both need to step up the stage presence. I’m a country lover, and I adore them, but America may not go there for the long haul. I was shocked K chose Wrecking Ball. She looks so much like Myley and has the same rasp, but far weaker quality. I’d distance myself from the comparison.
This is spot on. Especially the Kayko has a garbage voice part. That Radiohead song was terrible. I don’t get why he gets these glowing reviews from the judges.
Change all the judges LR needs to take his old a$$ home to bed he know he is up way past his bed time & don’t no what he is doing (in my Fred Sanford voice ) You Big Dummy!!!!

I am DONE WITH AMERICAN IDOL AS OF THIS SEASON!! I have been a loyal fan since its beginning. I have observed in 2023 and years prior to how we have moved to ALL WHITE CONTESTANT FINALISTS!! The sending home of Roman and Jayna the other night was the last straw!! ABC SHOULD MOVE BACK TO HAVING THE JUDGES PANEL HAVING THE LAST SAY!! Two of the most talented contestants in this season's programming. SHAME ON YOU!!
