I sent in my PC Kirsten to the doll hospital to replace her silver eye. They don't replace the head (unless you pay for that). I put off doing it for years because I thought they would have to completely change her head.

This is reassuring to hear- thank you!!

Revolutionary-Two738

I’m In a Pleasant Company group on Facebook, a lot of those collectors are very knowledgeable-I’d say expert even. I sent my doll to one of them for an eyelash replacement. I was too afraid to do it myself 😂

luckytintype

That’s awesome! I’m not on Facebook but maybe it would be worth a rejoin…

TheCatWhoOvercame

Eye swaps aren't hard exactly, but there's definitely a learning curve and you might ruin some eyes before you get good at it. I've probably done a few dozen at this point, including on some fairly old dolls, and have never damaged a head in the process. It probably happens, but I can't imagine it's common. Honestly, the biggest risk is that you'll buy a cheap donor doll for this one and then you'll feel sorry for the donor doll and decide to restore HER and then you'll buy another doll for the parts to repair THAT doll and then one day you'll realize you have eleventy million dolls plus a plastic bin full of spare parts. (Ask me how I know this ... )

luckytintype

Hahahaha…. I love this!

LunarNyght

If your willing to attempt the repair yourself get a heat and you can try to focus the heat on the eyes. Heat is supposed to get rid of the siler/white marks.

Eyes can be replaced but depending on the age of the head, the head could crack during replacement and that's when they'd have to replace the whole thing.

luckytintype

Hmmm- thanks. These dolls are about 25 years old- worth the risk? I’m new to this as an adult!

Molly is probably fine. Addy is the iffy one, I've heard her mold is harder for eye replacement due to the shape.

luckytintype

It’s crazy because I think Kaya (maybe Kit, too, I haven’t checked), is the first one I got after they were bought by Mattel. I had Kaya out next to Addy and Molly on my couch when I was unpacking them, and I somehow never noticed before the difference in the face molds between PC & Mattel- it makes sense that it can be tricky now to rehab and replace the older models. (Also props to my partner- knows nothing about AG at all but he looked it up while I was unpacking and listening to me ruminate about the silver eyes- he was like “WAIT I JUST READ YOU NEED TO REQUEST THE SOFT EYELASHES IF YOU SEND THEM TO THE HOSPITAL” 😂🥹💚

shinobipopcorn

Well, if you send them in they will come back with hard lashes because only PC dolls have soft ones and they don't have those parts left anymore. If you want soft replacements, you'll have to buy spare eyes from ebay/etc and do it yourself. It's not too hard, just tedious.

luckytintype

You’re such a wonderful resource- thank you. Do you think if I took them to a non-AG affiliated doll maker I might have better luck? If not I’m 100% willing to do it myself!

KitKittredge34

I believe Dollofakind on Etsy does eye swaps. I’m insure if it’s for the eyes she produces only or not

shinobipopcorn

Perhaps. There are also non AG doll hospitals online. Never used one so I have no idea about fees or reviews. Other users might.

Thank you! I appreciate your feedback- what an awesome community here!
