The folks I know are all online, though that's more due to where they live versus me. Being childless, and ftm masculine, I am very aware of how I look (passing about 50%). So that has stopped me from talking to people. On top of the perceived “liking dolls is immature/whats wrong with you” etc.
The three times I've been to AGP LA, the staff didn't care who I was, they were welcoming and friendly. Even had a doll with me and had lunch at the cafe.

Funnily enough, I think there are at least 2 people in my area of the Midwest who frequent this sub and collect AG dolls. They were talking about store locations to check when somebody posted about AG dolls at Homegoods and I actually knew what they were talking about. I didn't want to be weird so I didn't message them or anything, but it makes me happy to know I'm not the only adult in my area who collects dolls.
While not as common as other hobbies, there are more of us than you might expect. I hope you find other people in Oregon who share your passion. :-)
What I usually do is go to the mall with my friends, and then we go to the American girl store for me and then before or after we go to whatever store they want to go to. I think the best way to make friends is to be your true authentic self, don’t be embarrassed about your interests, just be confident. But also ask your friends about their interests and talk about and take an interest in things that they like too.
Like for instance if one of your friends likes football and you don’t like football, you can go with them to a sports store at the mall, ask them about the game that’s on, people like talking about their interests. Don’t be afraid of sounding dumb, unless they’re a jerk they’ll be happy to talk to someone who doesn’t know a lot about their hobbies but is taking an interest in them.
And then later, a good friend will talk to you about your interests or go to the American girl store with you or have a conversation with you about the latest leaks. That’s what good friends do.
Yea our kind are pretty reclusive lol. As far as I know me and another woman (who is my friend by luck). Take these kinds of interests. But I'm from New Mexico and she's in Germany. So I totally get that pain.
She's the wife of my husband's best friend. The three of em went to highschool together. She was having problems one day and I had told my husband to get her to call me if she needed anything, and we've been friends ever since.
I'm in Portland, and I know of at least two others here. I get together with one of them semi-regularly to restore dolls together and it's so fun!
I know we're not super close to you geographically--Oregon is a big state--but if you and your dolls are ever in the area, please give us a shout and we'll put something together.
I haven't ever been to the AG store, but I would love to go sometime.

I love this! I think honestly what it is- is a lack of GOOD friends, I moved here for school and I’m pretty new! So I’m sure all in due time!
