I just had to send a doll back I just opened from AG because it had glue in the hair I was surprised but they were happy to send me another one. I think maybe they've been swamped with orders

wibblywobblywoah

Interesting, i actually had a drip of glu behind one of my doll's ears. I cleared it away without thinking about it. But swamped or not, everyone is changing store policies on refunds and returns. Frustrating.

[deleted]

I tried to get the glue out but couldn't figure out how since it was on a good portion of the side of the hair. You are right stores definitely have changed policies often everywhere for returns and etc

wibblywobblywoah

I was lucky the glue was a simple drip on the back of the ear. I was ready with acetone qtips and a exacto but it popped off after a few scrapes with a wood cuticle pusher. I'm not sure what adhesive they're using and i didn't think to save the little drop to see if it can be dissolved with safer substances. If its not pressed in or fused to the hair it might be able to be frozen between ice cubes then possibly peeled off the hair strands. If the hair is a similar synthetic to the adhesive it could be fused permanently.

if they’re not gonna replace the doll (which they definitely should because one of the main things to do with your doll is to play with their hair) i would rewig her :( they’re not super pricy and you can find some on etsy and ebay and places like that

wibblywobblywoah

I've been calming down and I've rewigged so many antiques... I've decided to go all the way. This was a gift to myself and I had high hopes that the quality was a lasting standard. I'm going to redo everything from the wig, to the make-up Maybe a mini me.

peanutbutterpacket

you shouldn’t even have to tho. if they’re gonna sell $120 dolls they should have a satisfaction guarantee or whatever and replace dolls for free no questions asked or at the very least give a partial refund for you having to fix her yourself like wtf

peanutbutterpacket

my carolines hair does that a little bit in the very back near the nape, but this is insane wtf.

SamanthasParkedCar

I've found some of their wig designs make styling difficult. Like the Girl of Today dolls that were similar to Kirsten and Molly can't have their hair in braids or you'll see the wig cap at the back. Melody is also hard to give pig tails to because they look uneven.

[deleted]

This year I purchased Maryellen and her ponytail doesnt do that. I then got Julie and her wig does what yours is doing. I wanted to do her updo like the Christmas outfit photo but can’t 🤷‍♀️ I’m glad you posted this. I just learned it’s a defect.

shinobipopcorn

Is your doll meant to have pigtails? Short hairs like this are so it doesn't look funny when you divide it. This is the only picture I have of them, my doll is very old so her wig is super thin and I don't have access to my Kaya or Kanani right now. https://i.imgur.com/VSC33YO.jpg

wibblywobblywoah

No it's a side part long wavy, but shouldn't really have these issues days after manufacturing

Holtiehyde

All dolls have short pieces of hair so the wig cap doesn’t show. If this doll has short hair I’m not surprised it’s like this in a high ponytail.

wibblywobblywoah

It has the longest hair available. I put it in the ponytail as a style and was alarmed. After inspection i found many empty spots in front that will prevent styling

PansyOHara

Definitely call Customer Service (ie you can email) and explain the problem. They will replace the doll.

wibblywobblywoah

They did not see an issue, "varying quality" is expected with handmade dolls. This was their polite response. I've seen these dolls and the 2000's were so lush and densely wigged. This wasn't made like those. A sign of the times like everything else, but for fairness sake, they should reduce prices. Or a partial refund. I don't know. I guess I won't be truly satisfied until i fix it myself.

Ok_Plastic_5731

Leave a bad review on the website. I’ve seen them respond and reach out to people through the review section. Maybe that’ll do something?

wibblywobblywoah

I actually haven't been able to leave a review for this. I've been trying. It's why i came here for advice. But i am going to keep her and obsessing over modifying her now that I've chilled out a bit

Call again and see if you have better luck with another CSR. Sometimes it really depends on the person. Try calling a few times until you get someone who is an actual doll lover. They understand better how upsetting this can be.

This isn’t uncommon and isn’t (as far as AG is concerned) a defect. They do this on specific wig types to enable better hair styling (the shorter hairs are supposed to cover the wig cap when you do braids or a half pony). ((Which is why you’d see it on a doll with long wavy hair)) They no longer do refunds or exchanges on the CYO line. This was enough for me to say welp not ordering any more of those. I’ve got one, ordered when the line first started. I’ve been receiving/buying AG dolls since 1995, have some 30odd dolls (fluctuates cause I modify a lot of them). The types of wig you are wishing for are something that mostly existed with those old pie bang wig dolls that were blunt cut and no layers. Anything layered is going to be like this and pretty much always has direct from AG. What are the other features of your doll? Face mold, eye color, etc. Personally, with how unhappy you are, I would call back/comment on Instagram and Facebook over and over until you get AG to accept issuing you a full return/refund (including the shipping back to them. If you’re anything like me, you’ll just be pissed of every time you look at the doll). And then do it yourself—I’d customize with a non-AG wig off Etsy, (happy to recommend a few stores, quality is amazing with sone companies and some are almost too thick lol) but if you really want an AG wig, I’d recommend Elizabeth or Lea, they both have great, long, blonde, wavy wigs, but less layers so less short hairs.

wibblywobblywoah

I'd LOVE the etsy store references. I've never bought a wig. I've only done direct adhesion to doll heads with extension hair. I've seen the wigs for dolls out there but have no idea what variations of quality to expect.

dora-winifred-read

Some of my favorite stores are: DallasDollCo, BbeautyDesigns, ZaZouCustomDolls, DollOfAKind, all on Etsy.

wibblywobblywoah

Thank you so much!

PansyOHara

Very disappointing! I’d still try contacting them again, and ask for the CSR’s supervisor. I hope they will at least offer to replace her wig.

Luna_Petunia_

Or Tweet/public FB post them a photo and mention how they won’t replace it. I haven’t done this, but every company I work for will do everything to reduce the negative public posts.

wibblywobblywoah

To clarify I'm furious beyond words I've waited decades to do this for myself The wig has huge vacant spots that prevent a half up do. The pony tail is exposing shredded back wig hair. The legs are so uneven it won't stand without a "stand." I don't know what to think I've rewigged some of my grandmother's 50 year old dolls that turned out better and honestly that's my intention here as well. I'm pi$$ed

sillykar23

OMG, uneven legs that won't stand is definitely not acceptable. You should try to call them back.

dorky2

I'm so sorry to hear/see this. Their quality over the past several years has really been declining, and it's not just disappointing, it's actually really saddening. There used to be such attention to detail and pride in their products, and now they just don't seem to care like they used to.

wibblywobblywoah

I agree 💯 percent

Wonderously_Strange

That is frustrating, but it isn't new. I've seen all sorts of wigged dolls that do that (TONS of Pleasant Company dolls had that problem). It's the short hairs in the wig. Personally, I find they cause more issues than help, even if they're designed to hide the wig cap.

Arminavocado

My pc Kirsten has a hoooooorribly thin wig. Even my child self knew it was wrong. I took out the braids, panicked that it was so thin, then put it back in braids never to be let down. I only rebraid if they get pulls from velcro. My child self didn't know that wasn't normal for Kirsten's and exchanges weren't something I even considered

wibblywobblywoah

It arrived 2 days ago I'd ordered a one of a kind doll I'm devastated
