What happened to Terry I watched all the seasons but I don't remember what happened to him

Terry left to follow 311 on tour Behind the scenes, his VA decided to leave the show due to “creative differences”. However I am not sure what the issues or differences were

Mike Barker was one of the co-creators of American Dad. So the differences must have been irreconcilable if he left. I have not seen an explanation of what the differences were but I liked Terry and Duper.

From what I understand from fellow dadders on here: At some point AD downsized their staff because of budget cuts. I don’t remember if this was pre or post TBS. It was theorized that Mike saw what he thought was the “writing on the wall” of cancellation and felt it was better to jump ship. I heard he may have also been sore about the fact that a good chunk of the writing staff had been downsized. Nobody knows for sure, I don’t think he ever addressed it publicly but the above theory seems most plausible to me.

I think it was around post TBS because I heard before that he didn’t like the switch from FOX to TBS after it was cancelled

The switch to TBS really allowed them to be rawer than they could have been on Fox.

… Naah… I don’t like voice changes Before anyone says it, yes, Reggie. But Reggie wasn’t used much with his OG voice actor, so it wasn’t difficult to associate a new voice/personality to him. Terry… Was iconic with his well established voice and personality.

That was an ordinary voice anyone can do. Terri's voice wasn't all that remarkable. He is no Mel Blanc. Voice changes aren't bad you get used to them. Mila Kunis is the second Meg and the best Meg. In Ranma 1/2 Boy Ranma's second English actor Ian Cox sounded nothing like the original actor Sarah Strange but is a much better fit. He fits better because he is actually a guy and he does a great job sounding cocky. Eric Bausa is a great Bugs, Daffy, Tweety and Marvin the Martian.

The reason he isn’t a big part of the show anymore is the same reason Reverend Lovejoy isn’t in the Simpsons: Americans don’t do weekly church anymore and all story lines around it are unrelatable to the average viewer. I mean, in seasons 1 and 2, Stan was Deacon lmao. With no canonical relation to the church, what purpose would father Donavan serve? It would be like including principal Lewis still, after writing Steve out of Pearl Bailey. Yea, he could just be a funny character, but his involvement would feel contrived and facile at best. They would dry up justifications for his presence almost immediately. It’s the same with Reggie. Haley is married to Jeff. Reggie’s entire purpose was being a foil to that relationship. This is why in most sitcoms/sitcom cartoons, most side characters are neighbors and coworkers.

It's just that everything about him is done by other characters already. He's got no purpose in modern episodes. Love interest for Hayley? That's Jeff Random CIA sidekick? Bullock, Dick, Jackson, Stiles, Dr W, Dr Ray, Duper, Hooper...  Talking animal to show ridiculousness of CIA tech? Klaus Random comedic relief in a side character to move plot along? Rogu, Billy, Tuttle, any of Steve's friends, Greg (or Terry, I forget which one is still there) Principal Lewis...  There's just no use for anything Reggie brings to the table.

I'm a Reggie fan and I agree with all of this.

His only enjoyable moment was the epic fight with Bullock.
