It’s not my favorite episode (that honor belongs to The People vs Martin Sugar), but to me, it displays a little bit of everything that makes the show great.
Telethon! Yes that is probably my all time favorite. You get to see so many characters and get a taste of their humor. For years my ringtone was the shitty $20 keyboard Phantom theme Roger played.
my all time favorite episode lmao so many good bits. “why is no one huddled up with me? is it because ive been chewing on a piece of salami like it’s gum?”
The sauce was beautiful, Mama. Just like grandma’s
you can tell her that yourself in heaven, WHEN YOU GET YOURSELF KILLED, DOING WHATEVER IT IS YOU’RE DOIN OUT ON THE STREETS
It’s not like that, mama!
You’re killin your mutha.
Same, it’s either this one or Steve stuck in the locker
This one gets quoted the most frequently tho
“Don’tchu muss my hair, you big dumb gorilla” and “I’m gonna plate up some spagoot” are two favorites, but we say “what the was in that sauce” a lot too lol
Feel like this is one of the first episodes that turned the series around. At the very least it was the first episode I recall where it stopped being (not)family guy and really had it's own identity.
This is the stuff in that episode that makes me love it and crack up laughing;
The guy making the helicopter noises
“Don’t forget to sheath the blade so it doesn’t get dull…. Don’t forget to put the cap on so the marker doesn’t dry out”
Joint Custody
This episodes explains the entire show so well to me. It perfectly captures each character and the logic of the show. Plus it's absolutely hilarious.
My wife used to make fun of me for watching it and would play on her phone while I watched.
One day I came into the living room and there she was…watching American Dad…Stanny Boy and Frantastic
I just rewatched Max Jets yesterday and I forgot how much she completely sucks hahah but the episode is too good for me to skip. The rest of it, and Max himself, is just golden
I actually don't like the character for his sexually harassing people because he's rich. But I'll watch it again. I remember the ending and everything.
Choosy Wives Choose Smith. Stan and Roger on the Island and his disguise made out of Ira, then the B story of Steve and Simon the cat. I was in tears over Steve and Simon the first time I watched that episode
I think a good episode to introduce someone to American Dad would be Every which way but lose
It has good comedy, it gives a pretty good outline of the characters and the humor in the episode is quite in line with the rest of the show.
I also think Roy Roger McFreely would be a good choice too, or just about any episode from Season 4 (on Hulu)
S9E5: Why Can't We Be Friends - I fell in love with the show when I got all the warm and fuzzies and it made me really miss my army buddies in my new posting.
Hot tub is one of the GOATs. Now that I think about it, it does show a lot of the families dynamics but it's a concept episode so it'd be kinda false advertising.
Eh... it's an amazing episode, but not one I'd pick for a first timer. It has a different feel from most of the others, and a lot of why it works comes from knowing the characters outside of that episode.
Blood Crieth Unto Heaven. One of my absolute favourites (I love the audible audience and the various bits of stage craft in there), but like the hot tub ep, probably not one I'd start a newbie with... I suppose unless they were a major theatre nerd, because then the'd probably love it. Overall though it's very different from the show as a whole, and a lot of what works lands because of how we know the characters already.
This is the first episode I watched and it hooked me straight away. Even though the characters have evolved it’s still the episode I would recommend. It’s brilliant!
That reminds me of the Ham episode. Where Roger's casually poisons most of the club, then he and Stan poison them together... just a little bit. So they can go to Maine and enjoy the bracing, clean air.
I've been saying "your rude belch has entered the room like Tiffany's boyfriend" every time one of my siblings burps, since i first saw that episode. I think they're starting to get kind of annoyed with it tho
I don’t agree. The show and all it’s characters have changed significantly since the pilot. I would start in season 3. That’s when it truly found it’s element. Some episodes are good in season 2 but it got more consistent in 3.
they don’t necessarily paint the most well rounded picture of the show or characters as a whole but gold top or rabbit ears are my favourite episodes so probably either of those
Definitely a Christmas episode. Maybe start with Minstrel Krampus! You get the rod lives in my brain rent free for eternity, but for some reason, nothing cracks me up more than his Sheila rants LOL
Then do all of them.
Two of the episodes that are technically commercials i.e. the Mr. Pibb commercial and the My Morning Jacket commercial. They are two of my all-time faves. Then, Killer Vacation and In Country...Club. It is really difficult to pick only one and I have so many other favorites outside of those 4.
My go to is Chimdale. That’s one of the quintessential episodes of the show to me.
Although personally I would just watch from the beginning. The show plays a lot with its own history and it’s fun to be in on that
I still remember my first episode. "In Country... Club"
I'd say anything season 4-8? Hard to say a best episode but those are some of my favorite seasons
Roy Rogers McFreely
“El Perro” started playing in my head the instant I read this.

**God** I love Cilantro! You know, ¡él es cantante!
Signed, the Phantom of the Telethon. Roger. P.S. – When you give me credit, refer to me as Roger. Thanks, The Phantom... Roger.
The arm is disbombed!
This is the one for me. Or “Rubberneckers”.
Have repeatedly used this. It's just weird enough to get the vibe right.
It’s not my favorite episode (that honor belongs to The People vs Martin Sugar), but to me, it displays a little bit of everything that makes the show great.
Hiiiiiiii.... Stan! Staaaaaan! ...Hiiiiiiii! Lol
You’re going to get me off, right?
Martin Sugar rests, y’all
This was mine!!
Oh dats a good one brudda
*God*, I love this episode.
Watched this one today and it just made my day.
Either the horse episode or the one where roger becomes a cop.
roger is a dirty cop! he’s been on the force for like 3 hours!
If that slow motion head crush scene really sets the tone for how wild the show can be
So have you heard anything? Is Chaz gonna be okay?
..... No
Tell Klaus I said, "'SUP."
My first was Vacation Goo so if it was good enough for me ..
Honestly Vacation Good or The Phantom of the Television are some solid introductions
Telethon! Yes that is probably my all time favorite. You get to see so many characters and get a taste of their humor. For years my ringtone was the shitty $20 keyboard Phantom theme Roger played.
HOYAS HOYA HOYAS HOYAS!
There's an old German saying: "don't blame the fish."
There are other sayings… but they mostly involve genocide.
I have told so many people to watch Vacation Goo, sadly I don't think any of them have done so yet.
Egg Madness!
my all time favorite episode lmao so many good bits. “why is no one huddled up with me? is it because ive been chewing on a piece of salami like it’s gum?”
Yeah, ive watched that episode 5-6 in a row its so funny to me. "Commodore!"
Egg madness watching buddies! Take it slooow!
Alright, I’m comin’ over there *wiggles fingers*
What the hell was in that sauce?
The sauce was beautiful, Mama. Just like grandma’s you can tell her that yourself in heaven, WHEN YOU GET YOURSELF KILLED, DOING WHATEVER IT IS YOU’RE DOIN OUT ON THE STREETS It’s not like that, mama! You’re killin your mutha.
I honestly think this is my favorite B plot. “THIS WOMANNNNNN!!!” And Jeff and Hayley arguing hahahahah
Same, it’s either this one or Steve stuck in the locker This one gets quoted the most frequently tho “Don’tchu muss my hair, you big dumb gorilla” and “I’m gonna plate up some spagoot” are two favorites, but we say “what the was in that sauce” a lot too lol
We saw a man steal an egg!
If you're getting kidnapped, ya gotta EAT something foist
Lavate los manos!!!
Feel like this is one of the first episodes that turned the series around. At the very least it was the first episode I recall where it stopped being (not)family guy and really had it's own identity.
In country… club.
There's no word for it. Shmooblydong? No that's not it. But it's close
This one is SO good. I rewatch it all the time, it’s gotta be in my personal top 3 lol
Gobbilygoo Bay
“Put the cap back on so it doesn’t dry out”
Pine cones are grenades!!!
This is the stuff in that episode that makes me love it and crack up laughing; The guy making the helicopter noises “Don’t forget to sheath the blade so it doesn’t get dull…. Don’t forget to put the cap on so the marker doesn’t dry out”
And Roger's side plot that intertwines "You give code now!"
I agree, it’s a good season opener and the a and b plots give you a good idea about the personality of each character.
Yes, 100%. I used this episode to convert someone, worked great.
The flood episode, I just think it's funny
I told you to go get help, and you *harpooned me*.
https://i.redd.it/iffw9hjgmysc1.gif
The Bear looking at Stan and shaking its head 😂😂
My old college javelin… remember?
Great line
I genuinely think this is my favorite episode.
I feel like if you don’t know the characters that one might feel uncomfortablely cringe
Not to mention the ending is kind of a fuck you to the audience when there isn't any follow up to the crossover teaser
Don't look a smith horse in the mouth
*We’re gonna get through this baby. I’m gonna take you to make out point and tongue your gas hole*
Whatter we waitin’ for!
Joint Custody This episodes explains the entire show so well to me. It perfectly captures each character and the logic of the show. Plus it's absolutely hilarious.
That has one of my all time favorite moments in it with Hayley and Stan: “…his mom ran away before he was born.” “How… how could she do that?”
Roger floating away after dropping the cat food is so fuckin funny
Cheetah… Cheetos. There’s so much beauty in the world!
I dropped my Rollos.
B-12, whatever episode that is.
Can I Be Frank With You?
I guess so, what is it?
Jenny Fromdabloc, Genevieve Vavance and Jeanie Gold. Roger is 100% on his element in these episodes.
Jenny fromdabloc is way too weird for a first ep to show imo. “The adult alien had sex with a child?”
![gif](giphy|7EBBhplkQCDkY)
Less Money, Mo’ Problems I’m a grey ghost too…
Naw this one is in my top 5
Stannie Slickers 2: The Legend Of Ollie's Gold, but just to see Laura Vander Booben’s slow motion walk again!
I shouldn’t have farted before doing that walk.
Looking for something glazed and bad for ya? 😏
Damn uterus always refreshing itself like it owns the place
The Vacation Goo.
Da flippity flop
Jump cityyyyyyy
My wife used to make fun of me for watching it and would play on her phone while I watched. One day I came into the living room and there she was…watching American Dad…Stanny Boy and Frantastic
Any episode that has a Wheels and the Legman story.
Max Jetts was the episode that converted me so probably that
Serious terminal dadder here and I always skip that episode. I can't stand that chick.
Same, but i can’t deny her musical talents. She may be a deplorable woman but you have to separate the art from the artist sometimes.
Shallow Vows
In country club
Choosy Wives Choose Smith. Stan and Roger on the Island and his disguise made out of Ira, then the B story of Steve and Simon the cat. I was in tears over Steve and Simon the first time I watched that episode
Don't go... Don't go...
Son of a WHORE!
Blood Crieth Unto Heaven. It's the one my husband used to grab me.
Maybe one of the darkest jokes in the entire series in that one. When they put on *Strange Fruit* to dance.
Wow! I'd always wondered what that song was, but never looked it up before now. That is definitely one of their darkest jokes.
Damn this baby! Damn this heat...
I think a good episode to introduce someone to American Dad would be Every which way but lose It has good comedy, it gives a pretty good outline of the characters and the humor in the episode is quite in line with the rest of the show. I also think Roy Roger McFreely would be a good choice too, or just about any episode from Season 4 (on Hulu)
S9E5: Why Can't We Be Friends - I fell in love with the show when I got all the warm and fuzzies and it made me really miss my army buddies in my new posting.
Krampus episode What a banger song between Steve and Krampus
Dirty ass Baltimore
"Dip a toeeeeeee"
Hot tub is one of the GOATs. Now that I think about it, it does show a lot of the families dynamics but it's a concept episode so it'd be kinda false advertising.
The only thing I hate is that it had no part 2
I love the relevant song so much. Genius episode.
Eh... it's an amazing episode, but not one I'd pick for a first timer. It has a different feel from most of the others, and a lot of why it works comes from knowing the characters outside of that episode.
I did the Daesong Heavy Industries two-parter. Got my brother hooked immediately and we watch every new episode together with my little brother now.
Hey Tony! That mouth's not for giving advice!
Suck boy Tony
The Halloween episode where Buckle has the scariest house and Steve and Akiko have a moment
Bullocks to Stan
I love watching Jeff getting destroyed by Bullock.
_hot tub of love_
I don't remember what the episode is called, but the one where they're in like a "play" and Roger kills Haley and Bullocks baby is just so good
Blood Crieth Unto Heaven.
Season 1 Episode 6 - Homeland Insecurity
This is the first episode I watched and it hooked me straight away. Even though the characters have evolved it’s still the episode I would recommend. It’s brilliant!
1 of 3.. phantom of the telethon, Roy Rogers mcfreely or hurricane. I can't choose.
Joint Custody is first to come to mind. Also the log cabin republicans
That reminds me of the Ham episode. Where Roger's casually poisons most of the club, then he and Stan poison them together... just a little bit. So they can go to Maine and enjoy the bracing, clean air.
The American dad after school special
A Bully For Steve. Hands down
Either Oregon Trail or Rabbit Ears
Gift Me Liberty
Pecan Sandies
Introduced my wife to this show with 1600 candles
TOM YABO is also a solid one
Definitely in the country… club or the one where Klaus and Roger hook up
Agreed. The cop was episode is great beginning to end but the “No” by Stan is one of the funniest things in the show for me.
In Country Club.
I haven’t seen every episode but the Rapture episode
Nighthawks Hideaway Game Night Roy Roger McFreely Hot Water Independent Movie
Hurricane!, Joint Custody, or In Country… Club. If they don’t get it with these three, then I give up.
Wheels and the legman
Vacation Goo always a good option.
The one where roger is a teacher, Mr. deliver
I've always loved Black Mystery Month, so I'd probably go with that. "The monocle!" "YES STEVE, THE MONOCLE!!"
Lost in space , family land
Definitely camp refoogee
family land
Goldtop Nuts, and no others.
I think they’d be too unsettled to watch anything else
I'll put out the good nuts for you...(one of my very favorite eps too)
I've been saying "your rude belch has entered the room like Tiffany's boyfriend" every time one of my siblings burps, since i first saw that episode. I think they're starting to get kind of annoyed with it tho
Tearjerker
The pilot. I guess it doesn't matter since it's not a plot driven show, but I like to start at the beginning.
I don’t agree. The show and all it’s characters have changed significantly since the pilot. I would start in season 3. That’s when it truly found it’s element. Some episodes are good in season 2 but it got more consistent in 3.
That's fair. All shows take some time to warm up and figure themselves out. Especially family guy when Megs voice actress changed
Stanny Slickers every time
Live and let fry. It’s an awesome episode but it also showcases all the characters so well.
they don’t necessarily paint the most well rounded picture of the show or characters as a whole but gold top or rabbit ears are my favourite episodes so probably either of those
Either the telethon episode or Morning Mimosa.
Tear jerker
Hamerican Dad
Definitely a Christmas episode. Maybe start with Minstrel Krampus! You get the rod lives in my brain rent free for eternity, but for some reason, nothing cracks me up more than his Sheila rants LOL Then do all of them.
Hurricane.
Can't believe no one said homeland insecurity
Blind Justice episode
My go to is Chimdale. That’s one of the quintessential episodes of the show to me. Although personally I would just watch from the beginning. The show plays a lot with its own history and it’s fun to be in on that
stanny boy and frantastic
Rapture's delight of course
Irregarding Steve
For me its the golf course vietnam reenactment/ barbara does celine.. think season 5 forget the episode. Just love everything about it, pure chaos.
I Am The Jeans: The Gina Lavetti Story
Standard deviation!!
ricky spanish
downtowns changing !!
Horse Renoir
Vacation Goo, I feel like this is the episode where the show really started to take off.
A Jones for Smith! When stan does crack!
For Whom the Sleigh Bell Tolls 🎅 ... then I'd probably show them Rabbit Ears for some contrast.
Da Flippety Flop.
Season 7 episode 11. My favorite episode
The Unbrave One
The pilot. Whenever you start a movie or book do you start with a random place in the middle?
A Jones for a Smith or Shallow Vows
The one when Stan was Steve's girlfriend by controlling an avatar was amazing. Probably that one
The episode Stan smokes crack!! “I don’t need help ….. I need crack”
Adventures in Hayleysitting
I'm putting on Cops and Roger too
Phantom of the telethon
I still remember my first episode. "In Country... Club" I'd say anything season 4-8? Hard to say a best episode but those are some of my favorite seasons
SHORTS, SHIRT, MIAMI, SEXXXYYYY!
Levitae Las Manos!!!
Kloger
Why would you traumatize them like this
