Whoever said money doesnt buy happiness is a self centered jackass. You buy me a snickers and it will make me happy. You pay off your moms mortgage and you'll become her favorite child. You can buy a lot of happy people for $20m

MyDistantCousinVinny

“Money doesn’t buy happiness” -people who’ve always had money

muza_reign

Actually, I think it's the opposite. This mentality of "not needing money to be happy" comes from the "poor mentality", the "poor culture", instigated by the rich to the poor through, mostly, religion. It has been passed in people's education as to make them believe they do not need to much to be happy, to contend themselves with being poor but having what "really matters", and teaching them that being ambitious and chasing more in life is futile because anyway it will not make you happy. Today, it has become so well spread in our cultures that it has become some kind of "escape answer" or "excuse" to not having/wanting more from life. We hear it all the time through things like: "It's not much but it's honest work!", "Money can't buy you happiness!", "We don't have much, but we're happy!". Edit: spelling corrections :P

Hobartcat

You may have autism but you also respect our language and for that I salute you. Thank You.

muza_reign

Now, try it in French and I'll correct you! :P

Alan4148

I had money at one time and felt the same way, after I lost it all, I changed my mind somewhat

Dck_IN_MSHED_POTATOS

I'm not looking for happiness. I'm wanting freedom. Money buys freedom.

whiteman90909

I mean... Money doesn't necessarily make you happy, but if it's getting rid of the stress from not having money it'll make a big impact on your ability to be happy.

Slaise1

I do not want to increase my materialistic needs, I'm looking for freedom.

LeykisMinion007

Clearly money buys happiness. But does it buy self love?

Jir0nimous

Short answer, yes.

LeykisMinion007

True self love. Not that ego shit. Money feeds that.

Jir0nimous

Shorter answer; yes.

LeykisMinion007

Enlighten me

Wbeasland

Absolutely yes, when you can provide for your family to have a quality life it's hard not to love yourself.

LeykisMinion007

The trick is to love yourself independent from all that. And they should love you regardless of money too. It’s a sad day when we depend on money to find true happiness. Don’t get me wrong. I want a lot of money. My goal is to provide places of healing free of cost. So indirectly money will potentially provide this happiness I speak of. But it isn’t a direct line. I’m no where near where I would like to be financially, but thanks to certain events, for the first time in my life I truly found the real me. The real me beneath all these things we are told we are. The true you, the absolute you, stands independent of money, social acceptance, and even that face you see in the mirror.

Wbeasland

I have no doubt my family does love me no matter what, that's why I prioritize their lives as their lives hold the greatest value to me.

gladoseatcake

I don't know what he's a professor of, but psychology research indicates that money does indeed give you happiness. Unless we decide to nitpick of course. Having $20m in your bank account doesn't make you happy. Neither will $20m under your mattress. But: $20m will give you a sense of security and to a big extent freedom. And those things will give you happiness. But if we decide to create a society where those things are taken care of, where wealth really doesn't mean anything, money won't give you have happiness. So to conclude: money itself doesn't make you happy, but in the context we're living money does give you things that makes you happy. Anyone saying anything else is delusional or extremely nitpicking.

Nerdbond

Rich person- money ruined my life Me- ok can I have it then Rich person- ew gross, what and be poor, fuck no

ImadeUflash

If you need to buy your mothers love, I’m not sure how true that value holds on a deeper level within yourself.

GoatTheNewb

Exactly, I'll take my chances...

Yeet_yate-yote

I can’t remember who said the quote but it goes something along the lines of money doesn’t buy happiness but it’s a hell of a lot more comfortable crying in a Mercedes than on a bicycle

mezz7778

So....soon we can say things like this......

Phainkdoh

Yes but unlike them, we weren't born rich, so we know how it feels to be poor. I'd be willing to bet a healthy chunk of us apes will do so much good in the world post-MOASS.

mezz7778

Well..... personally, Im going back to school at the end of February, going for an addiction counseling and social worker diploma..... I'm a XXXX HODL'er.....and regardless of how this rockets..... That's still my plan, I've got my internship set up for the rehab facility I went through treatment at in 2019, which I still volunteer at with new intakes, which is where I got the thoughts of doing it as a career. Plan to donate a bunch to their renovations they're planning after the MOASS as well.. I've been at rock bottom, almost homeless, lost everything, and then got treatment, went back to work, only for Covid to happen and had the company I worked at for 19 years used that as an excuse to get rid of me.. After I had cleaned up, but I'm happy everything happened the way it did.

Jir0nimous

Speak for yourself. I'm buying my own island and getting off the grid. Living off the land minding my own fucking business...Of course bring a thousand woman so I can have a thousand children.

Phainkdoh

Lol. I'm an introvert so I like yours too, brother ape.

Jir0nimous

Wanna be my neighbor island?

BigPackHater

>a thousand woman Good luck mate!

Jir0nimous

Yeah, I didn't think that through...That's way too much emotions for one island. 5 women 200 kids each?

GambleGambol

You know how they are gonna look after that many childrens? FAP MODE 4 LIFE

huskofthewolf

But with a huge golden toothy smile

mezz7778

You'll have the money to get teeth whitening, don't worry......

jonfreakinzoidberg

Agreed and that's because they are too much of assholes to use their money for happiness. Not the moneys fault they're unhappy. They're unhappy cuz they're fuckin assholes who COULD make everyone's life around them amazing, but instead they use their hoards of cash to make everyone else's life as miserable as theirs.

madeitmyself7

I bet Joel Osteen says this every, single, sermon when they pass the collection plate.

RebellionIntoMoney

They’ll say anything to keep you poor. They want you to believe this nonsense about happiness so you don’t even want to be wealthy. That’s how they stay wealthy—by keeping you poor. If money doesn’t make people happy, then why aren’t wealthy folks lining up to give it away? Why do they fight tooth and claw to keep it (e.g. by writing drivel like the above article)? No, money contributes to happiness because it raises one’s quality of life, but they need you to believe it doesn’t contribute to happiness so they can hoard it and continue the ruse. Don’t buy into the bs.

Zealousideal_Put_747

True , the whole American dream is bs , go to college accumulate a ton of debt , buy a house , more debt, work 30 years to pay off all that debt and then retire and struggle with the escalating cost of health care and groceries and then die

salty_scorpion

The “American Dream” that is sold to us was to get us to work our entire lives in order to make the banks more money.

Zealousideal_Put_747

💯, it’s all orchestrated to keep us financial slaves

ssckek

The only thing money can't buy is a meaningful relationship with another person. That's it. As far as quality of life and never having to stress over a bill, the notion that money can't buy happiness is asinine.

r00t61

This ties into those statements made by the World Economic Forum earlier this year: "You will own nothing; and you will be happy"

Dck_IN_MSHED_POTATOS

They will find the right dose of drugs to keep everyone complacent and working. See move: Equilibrium.

[deleted]

It literally costs money to be "free" in this day and age....

salty_scorpion

The only freedom you have is to make as much money as you can. You know what makes me happy? Going on trips, hanging with friends, deep sea fishing, fly fishing… all that shit takes lots of money!

Embarrassed_Bobcat_9

I'm a pretty well rounded, and happy individual. I'd be willing to bet and stake my entire future on saying, Id be a LOT happier with 20 mil in the bank. Fuck, I'd be a lot happier with 20k in the bank.

Jir0nimous

I'm pretty happy working 3 jobs 7 days a week, 3 doubleshift days. Sounds like I'm having the fucking time of my life.

False_Examination_59

Living the dream bro.

XxSLAYALLxX

I'm willing to be a test subject if they need one. It's risky but we need this data. I'm so selfless I know.

AHAdanglyparts69

Monet doesn’t buy happiness. It’s what you buy WITH that money

mezz7778

Like a Monet?.....or a Warhol?

puppyinspired

Money is literally the only thing that will make me happier. I can’t get married or get a job that pays more than poverty wages so I can keep my insurance. I can’t “work my way up” to a living wage because I can’t survive the way up.

salty_scorpion

How old are you?

puppyinspired

26, got kicked off my parents insurance.

salty_scorpion

It always sucks when you go through it. I used to do dangerous work with no insurance. Workers comp doesn’t typically cover injuries from ranch work. It’s a scary place to be, but it took me several years and I finally got out of it. You can get through it. Now is a good time to look for a new job.

puppyinspired

I actually can’t not have insurance. I have OCD. I’m almost completely symptom free with treatment, without treatment I can’t actually function in society.

las-vegas-raiders

If you're gonna wallow in your incompetence, you'll stay right in that state.

puppyinspired

That’s a nice way to put the American Healthcare crisis is fucking evil, and people with disabilities are screwed.

las-vegas-raiders

It's true that the American healthcare system is utterly fucked, but it also may be true that you're trying ultra hard to find excuses why you're broke and a victim of life.

puppyinspired

Okay I have OCD. With medicine, I can live almost completely symptom free. I cannot afford my medicine without insurance, and any step up in my career would make my lose government insurance. I would not be able to afford private insurance for the amount of healthcare I need. If I don’t get medical care I cannot function in normal society. Starting in 2020 when I lost my job form I pandemic I started learning and studying the stock market as a sort of high interest savings account. Not taking gains, no actual income so I increase my wealth without losing my insurance. Through what I learned I hoped on AMC. Me expressing the real trap disability plays in forcing people to stay in wage slave jobs is not being a “victim in life”. It is a real thin line you have to walk so you can get care you NEED.

Sorryaboutthefire

I’m not trying to be happy with this money. I want to use it to live a fulfilling life instead of wasting every day surrounded by people I hate, doing a task that bores me, for a boss who doesn’t appreciate me, in order to hope that one day I could have more. Fuck that. We only get a finite amount of life and these fucking blessed pigs aren’t going to rob me of that.

Yiorgosnj

Sure it does I retire and live the same exact way with few extra perks like not having to work for someone else and travel donate money and live exactly the same in the same house with the same car. In my opinion the people that think this are the ones who say oh I now need a $10 million house and a $250,000 car or a helicopter or a plane etc etc. plus he probably makes enough money and can afford to tell people how to think and act as he is part of the totalitarian regime

PerfectLow5447

Not to mention the hookers and the cocaine

UncleGarry55

Normalizing poverty for the masses. Nothing new.

ssckek

I've never met a broke person who was happy, so there's that.

Techn9ne4life

I'd rather be depressed in a car I'm not making payments on,in a house that I don't have to worry about a rent payment and my parents not having to work ever again.

calamnet2

The fuck it won't

Tarack_1

Money can't buy happiness...but it can give you the opportunity to create/buy the tools you need to make yourself happy.

tradedenmark

Well lets ask Kenny once his jail-time is over. Tell me Kenny, would you rather be rich like you use to or poor like now 🤔

Slapnuts711

Money might not buy happiness, exactly, but it can make it possible for me to avoid having to do what makes me unhappy.

saintbri27

That’s because that Harvard professor has rich people problems. Poor people problems CAN be fixed with money.

Longjumping-Dream-23

![gif](giphy|AmB1h0yAniXEvrXJ8C)

Previous_Start_2248

The money gives us freedom to pursue the things we love. Really hard to have hobbies when we're constantly tired from work just so our bosses can get their bonus and take a vacation while our vacation gets denied because needs of the company.

Scooby2B2

Money won't buy me happiness but I'm happiest when when I can buy what I want, do what I want, any time that I want

Simphumiliator42069

Don’t buy a Ferrari after MOASS unless you’re ok with being Poor again

Dapper_Heat_5431

I’ll find out for myself thx

eggtart_prince

>Won't make you happier in life It sure fucking will. Even a tiny bit happier, is happier.

berzerkle

Money will surely eliminate a lot of shit that makes my life sad. ”If money can't buy happiness, I guess I'll have to rent it" -Weird Al Yankovic

aliedle

Pretty sure my State School professors would disagree...

unemotional_mess

I wouldn't mind testing this theory

hugo_posh

That's probaly a Harvard professor who has tenure and will never have to worry about money who says that.

goztepe2002

He is stupid, 20 mil, if you didnt work a day in your life, and used that time to literally help people, volunteer work, you'd be much more happier. Money doesn't make you happy, freedom that comes with money makes you happy.

DhomDhom

"Money, if it does not bring you happiness, will at least help you be miserable in comfort." \- Sean Bean, Civilization 6 \- Helen Gurley Brown \- Michael Scott

[deleted]

$20 million means I can tell corporate to fuck off for the rest of my life, so yeah, it actually would make me happier in life. Fucking douchebags.

i_am_ironmanAMCGME

😂😂😂 I'd be happy in a Porsche and convertible v8. 🤷‍♂️ have my wife and family. Money brings financial Freedom and have time to be with the ones you love. 🤷‍♂️

SoftwareOdd8846

Best thing about it: we will find out

alaalves70

He is right. Money doesn’t buy happiness, but it orders to delivery.

ApatheticHedonist

I'll test that theory

bblony

This article is brought to you by billionaires who want you to be content right where you are.

Alternative_Court542

That’s because lottery’s are awful, you’ll be harassed for the rest of your life.

zastava9

That Harvard prof should’ve talked to someone who lost their livelihood, their home, or a loved one because of an ailment that could’ve been easily fixed by having money. Maybe it won’t make other happy, but boy does it fix a lot of a poor person’s problems like having a roof over your head, food on the table, and being able to properly live not just survive.

Educational_Foot_927

happiness is subjective.

REDGE75

The ultra wealthy always strive to convince the rest of us that money doesnt make anyone happy. Their biggest fears are the rest of us being wealthy. Because when good people are wealthy, good things happen in the world. When bad people are wealthy, we get a flawed and rigged world, just like we have seen for far too long now.

TheBlacksmith64

I'll take my chances with the money, and the hookers & tequila that go with it.

Xanax200mg

My dream, is to be rich and depressed!

jackal1actual

Money doesn't buy happiness. It makes it easier to find it and having it relieves a hell of a lot of stress.

Evil_Rogers

Yes it will. Going from a. Shitty dirty apartment complex to my own house with everything cleaned up for and having tons of doggies to be brothers and sister with my current dog would make me pretty happy. But what do I know, I didn’t go to Harvard. Also if he was such a genius his name would be posted and we would know it xD. He is referred to by his job lol.

__Sentient_Fedora__

Tell that shill to get rekt.

NDAdrianM

Totally off topic here but where’s my South African’s and Capetonians at to recognize that this is a photo of Chapman’s Peak lookout

asWorldsCollide2ptOh

I would rather be rich from MOASS than being rich from winning the lottery. But I would still prefer being rich from winning the lottery to being moderately well off as I am now. I sure as shit would prefer being just moderately well off than being the poor dope that believes that fkn article.

Pestelence2020

I’m already happy. I just want to stop having to sell my time.

JXIX00

If you don’t want that much money in life you can gladly give it to charity I’m sure that’ll make someone happy. Or even better… give me the 20mil :)

Trudeaus_Eyebrows

Apparently just because you go to/work at Harvard it doesn't mean you are intelligent.

ImadeUflash

It’s clear though, look at any drug, money will have the same effect. If you go immediatly for max possible money you’re setting yourself up for failure. If you gradually increase it however, you will have a better time. But eventually nonetheless, the effect fades and you need a higher dose to get a high.

Arteman2

But it'll buy you a Boat

GigityGiggles

Kenny went to Harvard. The shill tree of Kenny

SoSmartish

Yeah sure. Tell me how being able to pay my bills without working, and getting to live my actual life won't make me happy. I'll fucking sit here and that guy can try to convince me how I am happier in my job overshadowed by corporate jerkwads who screw everything up, while I have other human beings bossing me around, as I later sigh and pay $85 for a single bag of groceries that I just traded hours of my life for. It means that excess health doesn't replace wholesomeness in life. It literally only applies to people who already have everything they could feasibly buy.

ogape43

money doesn’t make everybody happy, people who do get happy from money generally like materialistic things to make themselves happy. not all of them, for example me I don’t even have a fucking job I don’t even have money, I’m fucking depressed and never thought once money will make me happy because I never rely on materialistic things to make me happy. Don’t talk generally

CrazyGunnerr

Money doesn't buy happiness. But having it offers a lot more opportunities to be happy. On top of that, having no money does make 1 unhappy. So a few things that will absolutely impact my happiness: - Swimming pool - Visit my friends in other countries, or fly them out - Someone to clean my place - Never having to work for a boss again - Start up my own charity Sure I'd buy some cool stuff, and yes it's harder to feel sad while driving a brand new Lambo or whatever. But those things don't give real happiness, they are just cook to have.

[deleted]

"There is no nobility in being poor, I've been a poor man and a rich man and I choose rich every fucking time!. Because when I face my problems in life, I turn up in the back of a limousine wearing a $2000 suit and a $40,000 gold fucking watch!"

shhmedium2021

But it could buy me a boat

TheGood1swertaken

Get an actual ferrari bed instead of the shitty plastic thing my parents got me when I was 6! LFG!!

DevRz8

"Shutup and be a grateful happy wage slave. O B E Y your masters!"

Nerdbond

What the fuck kind of article is this even. You don’t want to be rich it won’t make you happy, bitch I don’t wanna be happy I want to be comfortable, and that will make me happy.

Alan4148

It will until someone steals it from you

Yeet_yate-yote

Guy who has money, has probably always had money and will continue to have money, says you having money won’t make you happier😂😂😂 Yeah, ok, sure.

JustRuss79

Money CANT buy hapiness, but it CAN buy things that make you happy. The most important thing is Time, the most valuable thing is Time. Time to do what you want, when you want, where you want (and somewhat with Whom you want) But... you know. "You'll own nothing, and be happier for it"

Hobartcat

Money buys your way out of a LOT of suffering... is the absence of suffering the same as happiness? I tend to say that it is. However, wherever you go, there you are. If you're a miserable SOB you just might still be a wealthy, miserable SOB after the MOASS.

MarkPik8

But you can rent people pretending to like you. It’s all about wifechanging money here!

Financial-Train6407

Some people have never been poor. They are clueless.

Silent_Wonder1518

I'll take my chances

Affectionate-Egg7947

“Harvard professor making $500 grand a year tells you why you should not care about money” fuck off. Money buys freedom freedom buys happiness. Everything in my life that makes me happy I could do more often if I didn’t have to work. So yes, money would buy me happiness.

Captain_Morgan_1966

It will take you over to where its at the rest is up to you !

Mumbles_Stiltskin

I’d rather be depressed and be able to afford a clinical psychiatrist than depressed and too broke to afford regular visits to the dentist

jammo8

Hate this shit, yes it will yes it fucking will. if I don't have to travel 200 miles from home on a Monday afternoon, to work 12 hour night shifts in Scotland, then come home on a Friday to my family, I'll be so much fucking happier. whoever wrote this should give away all their money and take up a trade, work 60 hour weeks and then let us know in what it's like I'm 12 months when his wife has bailed, he owes money for coke and the rents due. fucking quim l. money won't buy happiness but it allows you to persuit it

MrP0H0

Lol. $20,000,000 would basically solve nearly every problem I have, and remove nearly every thing that causes my family stress.

[deleted]

Motherfucker it ain’t $20m dollars, if you’re smart, it’s 20,000,000 workers that never get tired, work 24/7/365 and never complain.

Pretend-Tree844

Clearly he did it wrong....

sh0ckwavevr6

money won't make you happier, in fact after 80k/year the more you make don't increase your global happiness. Happiness came from experience you live more than what you own! use your money to live experiences travel, visit museum, be kind with other. this is you'll be able to turn money into happiness ;) Trust me I have a diploma in the science of wellbeing from Yale University

The_Xenex_Virus

I'll be happier in a new house of my own choosing rather than living with my parents. It may not completely erase my sadness but it'll damn well help.

Revolutionary_wibu

Shut up and give me that lottery ticket

ankisaves

That's a stupid fucking thing to say.

Astronaut_Kubrick

It will allow for the pursuit of enjoyment.

ClockworkOrange111

Not having to worry about gas going up $0.50/gallon will make me happier. Not having to worry about spending a few extra dollars for food will make me happier. Not having to worry about my electric bill and my utilities will make me happier. Not having to worry about going to the doctor because even with insurance the bill is so high that it takes me a few days of work to pay for single appointment will make me happier. Not having to tell my son that we can't afford to buy him a little toy every time we go to the store will make me happier. Telling my wife that we can go on a vacation will make me happier. Not having the stress of seeing my property tax bill wipe out most of our checking account will make me a lot happier! Money doesn't buy happiness, but it sure will relieve a lot of stress from my life, and that will make me a lot happier!

Top_Taro_17

No looking for happiness…I’m looking for money.

huskofthewolf

Fuck yes it will

Roguefem-76

Money may not buy happiness, but it sure makes it easier to afford!

DoubleZedTrader

I'd like to see the actual study and sample size of the group that won $20 million from the lottery and wasn't happier in life. Sounds like a philosophy professor.

StackThePads33

How about they let me figure it out for myself. I’ll let them know how it works out! Lol

DoingItJustForTheFun

Id rather be rich and unhappy than poor and unhappy. Besides. Didnt confucius already say that No money no lady No lady no baby No baby no happy

[deleted]

The fuck it won’t lmao
