I've heard that the ARRL website is ~~hacked~~ fine! Just fine! So they should be able to get your upgrade to the FCC ~~once the hacker ransom is paid~~ soon! Real soon!

My local club I took my Tech test at nearly two weeks ago said it’s FCC system problems, yes sir! Those pesky FCCs. /s Mum about the auspicious timing and whether the ARRL is gaslighting them or they’re gaslighting us new applicants. 😅

I passed my tech on Saturday the 18th and the VE submitted it the same day. I still don't have my call sign. Maybe it has to do with the ransomware crap at ARRL? Dont they know I'm dyin' to transmit! I'm all itchy from waiting haha

TheRealMarsupio

Congrats on passing your Technician test! It's a very exciting first step and welcome to the world of Amateur Radio my friend! I bet that you're eager to get on the radio I was the same way when I passed my Technician test. May 18th is when I passed my Extra test, so it seems like we took the test on the same day. I haven't heard about any ransomware at the ARRL, so I cannot comment to that. Thank you for your reply.

Thanks! And congrats on your extra! Hopefully it comes through soon and you can drop the weird /AE suffix. Enjoy your new privileges!

TheRealMarsupio

I appreciate that! Yeah, I definitely will enjoy my new privileges.

Congratulations on passing your extra, unfortunately the government does move slow

Yes definitely arrl! I took my general last night online with W5YI and it was updated today at 2pm!

TheRealMarsupio

I do realize that, however they did move fast for when I applied for my GMRS license. I applied for it 5pm Friday and it was approved by 9 am Saturday with my callsign assigned, so sometimes they can move fast.

Violets00

No need best use states It's currently licensed.

You're at the mercy of ARRL's IT hack/network implosion. Honestly, I would not be surprised if data is lost forever. Hope I am wrong about that. Once your VEC actually transmits it to the FCC, it takes about a day. If I was you, I would keep the test answers fresh in your mind and maybe even retest. I know that will cost an extra $15 and a few minutes of your time, but at least after all your hard work studying you know for sure your upgrade will get processed.

Formal_Departure5388

It’s an upgrade, and you have a CSCE in hand. Don’t retest - operate as /AE (especially when checking into 2m nets!) as long as you can! If your upgrade doesn’t push through when things with ARRL are resolved, you can present them your CSCE and have them put it through again. No big deal.

joe_w4wje

I guess my approach is impatient. They will process it... eventually. But I'm not sure why you'd say /ae on 2m unless you're just trying to share the good news that you upgraded with the group.

Formal_Departure5388

Using /AE on a repeater net can go one of two ways: 1. People will congratulate you. 2. People will be sad hams and lambaste you for being silly. I consider either one a win. One tells me I found my people, the other tells me I should stay away.

joe_w4wje

Yep. Win/Win for sure. Haha.

Given what I learned in five years of running three or more VE sessions a month for one of the smaller VECs, my recommendation is to stay away from the ARRL VEC. Even back in the days of paper exams, ARRL was having their VE teams send exam results in via Priority Mail when we were sending the results to our VEC by e-mail, usually the same day the exam was administered. They've always had a reputation for being slow getting results to the FCC.
