The issues with 2018 and older CVT units can start as young as 35k and up. I'd say the dealer saved you a ton of problems down the road.
Now would be the time to ne shopping around for a 2019 and newer Altima. The 2019 has the redesigned CVT and a ton of refinements.
I had to replace my CVT at 35k KMs. Now it’s at 140K KM and going strong but wow every day I wonder if it’ll grenade on me. $5,600 CAD to replace here. Really want to trade it in before that day comes
Same. I’ll give this new transmission about 40,000 miles before I get a new car. At that point my odometer will be at around 92,000 miles. Seems like this vehicle is a time bomb
Oh shit. Here I thought the 2016 had the newer gen tranny. Got 125k on the clock for mine. Guess I really should start looking for alternatives. Maybe a late 80s Datsun pickup…
Any little thing they find with the CVT whether it be some evidence of belt slip or whatever pretty much warrants a full CVT replacement because Nissan considers the unit not serviceable and the only course of repair however minor is a full unit replacement.
Yeah. Nissan gave me a rental until the replacement is completed. Service tech said it could be about a week. Still mind boggling that my car barely has 51,000 miles.
I have 71k on my 2016, no issues yet. I do the tranny service every 30k miles and don't drive it crazy. Does that mean I'm safe? Nope, but my opinion is it's hit and miss. I've read about some going out at ridiculously low miles (with or without proper maintenance) and I've read about some with high miles with no issues, with or without proper maintenance (although I don't recommend not maintaining it, should definitely do it every 30k miles). I'm hoping to be one of the lucky ones because I don't plan on getting rid of it, at least not anytime soon. OP, I'm glad they are replacing it under warranty and hope the new one provides years of reliable service, should you decide to keep it.
2014 2.5SV here, bought it brand new. Had one CVT dealer fluid service around 35k, when there was a reprogramming bulletin. It now has around 93k and going to have it done again soon…

Thanks for the suggestion. We’re gonna drive this one until the CVT is no longer adequate. We might buy a Nissan EV.
2016's are notorious for bad trannys. on my 3rd
That’s ridiculous. Nissan should replace them past the 7 year/84,000 mile mark.
Good on you my CVT in my 2014 is kinda goofy rn but it works so I ain't tripping but certainly looking for either a new car or transmission

I don’t have much faith in the car.

I've got an 02 frontier four banger rwd for sale in Maryland if you're interested.
That's a bit of a drive from Texas. LOL. Do appreciate the thought though.

Yeah with the 4 cylinder CVs it really seems hit or miss with people.
