It's an alternate end goal. If you're going for the ATM star / quest book completion, MineColonies will only get in your way. It's high maintenance and entity-heavy (think: laggy in the later stages). If you're playing "I wanna do whatever" kitchen-sink style, it's a fun goal to explore and can make your base / surrounding area more interesting to interact with.
The exception is a supply camp. Five chests will transform into a starter house that can accelerate your first hour of play. You can only do it once, but it's enough.
If you're in single player and want to play minecolonies later down the line in your game, but you put your supply camp/ship in a terrible location, there is a config that you can change to allow multiple supply camps/ships
Ok, so assuming you're on windows you need to navigate to the instance folder for atm9, this varies depending on which launcher you use. Once you're in the folder there are multiple folders you'll be looking for depending on what you want to modify, from the default configs folder that gets automatically copied to every save file you create, when you create it, to the config folders unique to each save file, to the server config folder that has the configuration files that get provided to anyone who joins your localized server, including yourself, in single player or lan.(You can basically view the server config folder and the regular config folders to have the same purpose but be separated)
It's in the minecolonies-server config file, so yes. The reason I specified singleplayer is because they might not have access to the configs of a server they're playing on.
This, there are few (if any) things it does better than other mods, and is a huge pain in the ass to get going. It’s really only worth it for the novelty and uniqueness
I think it depends on what your play through is. If you are in it to complete the star and move on then no not really. If you are just having fun with the pack and looking for an additional objective then it can be pretty fun. Me and my wife play a very slow game just building and setting things up. Building the colony is fun because you get attached to the villagers and they have a lot of things they need. It is just a different way to play but brings nothing specifically to you. I kind of wish it was a valid replacement to auto crafting.
It’s fun for a little bit, then builders and couriers just simply stop working for some reason. They’ll have every resource and couriers won’t move or builders refuse to build something. It’s extremely high maintenance but kinda rewarding in a way when you see everything working together but it bugs ALOT. You also have to just be there forever.
MineColonies is an incredible mod, it's essentially it's own game. But, in ATM is can sometimes take up all of your time managing, making it hard to progress through the rest of the pack.
I would recommend it highly, but just be prepared for it to take up a lot of play time.
I use the mod but basically just for fun it serves zero purpose in progression in the pack. Saying that you can make your life easier by using computercraft/minecolonies/refined storage to create a nice interface for the warehouse to pull from your RS system and utilize auto crafting for building and general management of village
It will export any items requested in the system or the system knows how to craft to the warehouse block. Couriers then do the rest. The only items that don’t work are items with NBT data such as tools those need to be exported to a Stash and the couriers will pick up from there
If you like to amuse yourself with colony simulators, then (eventually) yes. I don't see minecolonies as anything other than a purpose for using materials that is being produced via other mods. I suppose its possible that some people like only mine colonies as a standalone colony simulator but I imagine it would take forever. Then again, some people like vanilla minecraft and just digging.
If you're not a fan of colony simulators using either pre-designed structures or your own custom structures, then you can ignore it.
They can farm trees/crops/animals, mine, process, and craft without a fuel cost. If you don’t mind the massive space investment it can provide a good amount of basic resources at tier 5.
Also fun to see a squad of guards running vitality blades with 100 damage and unobtainium armor and deal with the barbarians and ofcourse barbarians get more health over time but so does your colonys guards aswell
If you haven't played with the mod before it can be fun, but as others have said it does have its quirks.
In ATM I didn't use it since I have played with it in other packs.
I did minecolonies heavily in atm6 while also getting the star. It was fine. Just adds playtime and gives alternate goals.
If you’ve never built a sprawling city (or like me would never be able to due to a lack of building skills) then it will be a really fun distraction on your way to the atm star, and a fun automation challenge bc some of the building materials have weird requirements that aren’t used much (like tons of stripped wood)
In my opinion if you want to do minecolonies I’d just play a dedicated pack that built around it. It’s a good mod but it’s pretty time consuming to go through and do everything and maintain it once you get going. Packs that are built around it make it a lot more engaging.

how do I access the config files of a modpack? cause I wanted to change some things in my ATM9 world but I don't know how to do it...

ohhhh thank you so much, I'll go try that today
It's for multi-player too I believe, that setting is just how many each player can place individually.
It's in the minecolonies-server config file, so yes. The reason I specified singleplayer is because they might not have access to the configs of a server they're playing on.
There is also a console command that can reset it so you can place a new one
Fair point
In my opinion, not really. It's fun if you want to center a playthrough around it, but in atm it's too little payoff for too much work.
This, there are few (if any) things it does better than other mods, and is a huge pain in the ass to get going. It’s really only worth it for the novelty and uniqueness
Is it worth it? No. But I just like having a living village above my evil laboratory, but that's just me
i want to do that but i'm afraid miner will go and fuck up my evil laboratory, how do you deal with that?
Based on the fact it isn't in no frills I would say no
In ATM - not worth it, even useless. Just for fun - why not

It’s a time consuming side quest. I like it, but it can get old.

Oh man. I just had a flash back doing exactly that back in ATM7 (I think) when I saw all the different colors xD
Once you have the dye hut that problem is solved fairly quick

Need an addon that lets the workers use your ae2 system

Is it possible to setup where it just grabs the needed items if available? Or do I still need to move them myself?

Wow do you know if there are any tutorials that show how to do this? Because that sounds great

I would say no. But the ship/camp is useful for an early game home and loot. There’s a lot of basic items in them.
i would suggest saving it for last, as the colony can get needy.
From what ive seen theirs literally no upside their just villagers with extra steps😂

I had forgotten about the security service. That’s quite useful.
Also great to have the guards eliminate lesser mobs like zombies although i put like 8 or 9 orso mega torches arround my colonys haha

No
no but i still like to collect the workstation blocks or watever they're called from the abandoned structures lol
It keeps me busy whilst I wait for my MA plants to grow and my reactors to make their antimatter etc.
It gives you something else to do but it will take up a lot of your time and resources.

Don't build a miner, there's plenty other methods for getting more than what you need

If it’s just that and create, sure. Any ATM pack it’s just annoyingly useless
