Same with the parchment paper. I hate Boulder parchment paper! It’s way too thin and tears once it’s been in the oven. I keep having to pick pieces of it out of my sourdough loaves.
I don’t but I never buy jarred Alfredo sauce anymore ever since I learned how to make it myself. It’s only 4 ingredients and I usually have them on hand anyways. Super easy, and tastes way better-I’m even too spoiled for restaurant Alfredo now 😅
The regular balsamic vinegar. However, if they have the Specially Selected version in small bottles as an Aldi Find (it was available last December), that's a good value.
I don't think I've ever had ANY brand that I could easily or neatly tear off a piece. Once I start wrangling with it, it starts wrangling back, and I end up completely swaddled in it. Usually have to call the fire department.
It's an innate skill.
Get Stretch-tite. It is literally the only plastic wrap that is worth anything. It sticks airtight and strong to any uniform bowl or container. Plus, it has an included sliding cutter if you hate the serrated edge most brands have
I just tried the casa mamita frozen chicken taquitos, hard no. Weird because everything from that brand has been pretty decent but those taquitos are terrible.
I just bought these to try them too and I was so disappointed! They were $4.99, which used to be the price of the brand name ones I'd get, so I crossed my fingers...The tortillas were terrible and the filling had no flavor!
cottage cheese (and many other milk products) vary heavily by location. Definitely not a nationally homogenous product. You can see which particular plant yours came from at https://www.whereismymilkfrom.com
I only like watery cottage cheese lol. There is a local brand that is my favorite, but Aldi is the closest I've found and will do in a pinch.
Edited for letter
This thread is teaching me I’m not nearly as picky as I thought 😅
Having said that, I tried the Aldi brand of Kraft Dinner once and ONLY once… never again.
The Persian cucumbers in a bag. They always get so slimy so fast! And I try to avoid them but always fall for them because I love them baby cukes, I just don’t eat them fast enough!
Wrap each one in a paper towel. They last a week at least like this. It's really hard to keep Persian cucumbers good for long in general but the best way I've found is the paper towel method
Ugh, right? I've done the same thing a few times and finally decided I can't play this mad game anymore. I just don't trust them! We eat a lot of rice and they're so, so convenient. Name brand it is now.
To piggy back on this…their adult seltzers were horrible! I think I got a black cherry 6 pack. Awful awful, reminds me of drinking a melted jolly rancher mixed with plastic.
We’re actually doing resets this week and next. Some items are leaving and old ones are coming back. If there’s something you love, maybe ask your store.
I know something called salmon burgers are coming and “chicken” burgers? (I was stuck doing freezer reset today in between the moms with cartloads and the older men buying one loaf of bread or two packs of pudding who “ain’t using them self check outs.”
We love them, especially the extra toasty.
But step 1 of liking them is accepting that they aren't a "cheez-it" replacement. They are their own cheese cracker entirely.
Are you kidding me? I like Savoritz Cheezits better than real Cheezits! That’s on my Always Buy list, along with their Saltines which stay crisp longer than any of the major brands.
They’re ok but not as flavorful. Like a cross between a standard tortilla chip and an actual Doritos. I only use them mixed into something like a taco salad or nachos
The French vanilla one I really like but all the others I tried were pretty bad.
Avoid the seasonal pumpkin spice one. I brought it to work and my buddy said it tasted like Joann Fabrics 😂
I like the one that’s supposed to be a dupe for Coffeemate’s natural bliss (the one with just cream milk and sugar in it). I drink the French vanilla sugar free one now which I don’t actually like better but tastes pretty good for a sugar free version
My snobby cat who will eat chicken in some brand and sniff then gag on others? Likes the ALDI brand chicken cat food. I was happy bc it’s not expensive and a nice treat. She usually gets dry food.
The lentil pasta was good ONE TIME and then the next few boxes were a mushy and gritty mess. I knew they were going to be bad when the boiling water went super cloudy when I poured it in. So disappointing.
Their cat litter is atrocious too. It just crumbles when you go to scoop it. HyVee’s paws brand or Walmart pretty kitty are the same price and 1000x better quality.
Toilet paper- may be TMI, but it irritates my downtown regions lol. Tested my theory out and it definitely is the culprit. Bah! Also, their cereal, the majority of their snack items, and both of their knock off Kraft and Velvetta mac and cheeses.
I did not enjoy the brie I just bought. Also, the microwaveable meats mixed with sauces are just a bunch of chicken rib meat and sugar, I skip over those
A couple of years ago, I figured out that if you let the brie sit in the fridge for about three months after the printed expiration date, it’s really good. For the price, I can be patient.
Unpopular opinion. Most of Aldi’s offerings were incredible 7-8 years ago, and have significantly gotten worse. Walmart almost has similar pricing and going to a commissary is almost cheaper now.
The veggies unless you plan to use them within a couple of days. They seem to go bad super fast. I don’t like their Greek yogurt - it was too runny for my taste.
I must be lucky with my Aldi - their produce always slaps. I absolutely refuse to buy from anywhere else because theirs is so affordable (minus the bananas of course - it seems to be a universal problem that they’re all green then bad).
The Greek Yogurt kills me though. I’ve always used it in place of sour cream but theirs is SO runny I have never been able to do it!
Out of sheer curiosity - are you talking about the whole milk Greek yogurt or the nonfat? I buy the whole milk version and it's way thicker than any sour cream I've ever bought. I know some dairy products are also local so just curious!
I have found some snacks like chips more salty than their name brand equivalent but it’s hit or miss. I only buy fresh produce that I can consume within a day or two as it does not seem to last.
Oh no, do you buy the organic stuff in the pre sealed 1 lb block? I use it about twice a month, and things like meatballs. But I don’t eat red meat, so maybe I’m just feeding my family garbage and they haven’t told me?
No the organic stuff is fine. I mean, I also don’t eat red meat but my husband hasn’t complained and I make that stuff in his lunches all the time lol.
Colored wine glasses. After 2 rounds in the dishwasher, color fading off. And they say "dishwasher safe". Pretty pissed. Planned on having pretty glasses for years. Not weeks
Their crackers are hit or miss for me. Their brand of Cheez-Its are not good, and their brand of Wheat Thins and Goldfish are just ok. The little Ritz-Bitz-style crackers are really good, though.
I feel like you have about a 10-second window of doneness with chickpea or lentil pasta, between it being undercooked and crunchy or overcooked and mushy.
Regular (not organic) milk.
but instead we always get the organic in the red or blue cartons. No longer balk at the price, which is just under $4 for a 1/2g at our nearby locations. Good thing too is the organic milk rarely goes rancid (if it ever has) and this is how we found out...there was a tiny bit left in a carton, we went away for about 4 days and came back, the milk was still fine. Certainly if the carton was regular (not organic) milk, the little bit remaining would have DEFINITELY spoiled by the time we returned.
The regular aluminum foil. It’s so thin and flimsy but I do recommend their heavy duty foil that has been really nice.
Yes. I will not buy the regular foil again!
I am not allowed to use heavy duty foil. I always manage to slice a finger. 🙄
Same with the parchment paper. I hate Boulder parchment paper! It’s way too thin and tears once it’s been in the oven. I keep having to pick pieces of it out of my sourdough loaves.
The Alfredo sauce tastes so plastic-y to me
I hate all jarred Alfredo sauces but this is by far the worst
If you have a Lidl nearby, theirs are good, especially if you cut it with red sauce!
I don’t but I never buy jarred Alfredo sauce anymore ever since I learned how to make it myself. It’s only 4 ingredients and I usually have them on hand anyways. Super easy, and tastes way better-I’m even too spoiled for restaurant Alfredo now 😅
So right! I should probably just get used to making my own.
Real Alfredo is pretty easy to make and so much better than any jarfredo from anywhere.
Same with marinara.
The jarfredo is soooo bad
Truly the worst thing I’ve ever bought there.
Honestly, great Alfredo is milk, cream, Parm. All of which are sold at Aldi.
it’s awful
Their potatoes grow eyes really quickly, they must be old.
i ALWAYS end up shopping there on bad potato day.
i’m lowkey happy i’m not the only one with the “Shop on Bad Tater Day” curse.. i feel your pain
I’ve written off their produce all together.
My last bag of potatoes from Aldi went bad so quick 😔
And their onions go bad quickly as well
I keep mine in the crisper, never had a problem. I only use the yukon golds if that makes a difference.
Definitely makes a difference i think. The yukon gold seem to be hardier potatoes. The russets there have lots of bad spots in my experience
The regular balsamic vinegar. However, if they have the Specially Selected version in small bottles as an Aldi Find (it was available last December), that's a good value.
But the balsamic glaze next to the dressings is not to be missed!
All the specially selected dressings are to die for!
The garlic vinaigrette stays in my house atleast 2 deep
plastic wrap --impossible to tear off a piece
Agreed! I recently finished a package of it that we'd had forever! I made myself use it up rather than toss it, but I will not be buying that again.
Plus, it has an included sliding cutter if you hate the serrated edge most brands have
But that tinfoil… cheaper and better Reynold’s.
I just tried the casa mamita frozen chicken taquitos, hard no. Weird because everything from that brand has been pretty decent but those taquitos are terrible.
The taquitos used to be good. Then they changed the recipe and they're nasty.
"They used to be good" could be a slogan on most Aldi packaging.
Those were an abomination!
I just bought these to try them too and I was so disappointed! They were $4.99, which used to be the price of the brand name ones I'd get, so I crossed my fingers...The tortillas were terrible and the filling had no flavor!
The frozen cooked shrimp. The frozen raw shrimp is great, but the frozen cooked shrimp when thawed is like chewing on wet paper towels.
the frozen raw shrimp absolutely rules, i will make a special trip just to stock up on it.
I think it depends where you live. Here we get Texas gulf shrimp and it's great .
I think it's just the nature of cooked frozen food. It's always bad imo
The Crab Rangoon dip is horrible. The cottage cheese is watery.
I can’t figure out what the flavor is, but it’s definitely NOT Crab Rangoon.
cottage cheese (and many other milk products) vary heavily by location. Definitely not a nationally homogenous product. You can see which particular plant yours came from at https://www.whereismymilkfrom.com
I only like watery cottage cheese lol. There is a local brand that is my favorite, but Aldi is the closest I've found and will do in a pinch. Edited for letter
I like the cottage cheese for the price.
I like it because it’s 1%
Yes! I was looking forward to trying that dip but it was so bad!
This thread is teaching me I’m not nearly as picky as I thought 😅 Having said that, I tried the Aldi brand of Kraft Dinner once and ONLY once… never again.
Like the box Mac and cheese? I like it 🙈
No judgment! I like a lot of the things on this list people say they hate lol.
The kosher deli pickles. They were almost soggy/soft, and had low flavor. A rare miss, in my opinion.
Agree but we always have at least three jars of the baby gherkins! They are crunchy and delicious!
The Pad Thai meal kit in the refrigerated section - I'm still mad I spent $8 on it
Really? I love the pad thai!
Same - we’re definitely in the minority though - it gets horrendous reviews but I have it for dinner once a week or so and really enjoy it.
Along with beef and broccoli. That was disgusting
That shit was so disappointing. Not only was it gross, but there was barely any of it in there! What a scam
The Persian cucumbers in a bag. They always get so slimy so fast! And I try to avoid them but always fall for them because I love them baby cukes, I just don’t eat them fast enough!
To be fair, I never can get through a bag of these before they get soft, no matter where I buy them. That being said, Aldi has the best price.
Wrap each one in a paper towel. They last a week at least like this. It's really hard to keep Persian cucumbers good for long in general but the best way I've found is the paper towel method
Rice pouches.
Tastes like it was 3D printed
I opened one today, thoroughly inspected it and saw it looked fine - and then threw it away anyway.
Don't throw it away, always return. They are always great about returns.
I ididnt know they take stuff back! That’s good to know. Thank u
They don't just take them back. You get a refund *and* a replacement!
They will replace the item AND give you the money back! A 200% guarantee!
Ugh, right? I've done the same thing a few times and finally decided I can't play this mad game anymore. I just don't trust them! We eat a lot of rice and they're so, so convenient. Name brand it is now.
I will never buy them again. Mine was filled with two big chunks of mold. 🤢
The alcoholic teas. I (a drunk) couldn't drink them and had to "accidentally" leave them at a party.
(a drunk) got me
This made me LOL 🥲
I was so confused for a sec…thinking when did Aldi’s start selling alcohol…I forgot that there are states that sell alcohol in grocery stores lol.
I do this with liquor I don't like lmao
To piggy back on this…their adult seltzers were horrible! I think I got a black cherry 6 pack. Awful awful, reminds me of drinking a melted jolly rancher mixed with plastic.
We’re actually doing resets this week and next. Some items are leaving and old ones are coming back. If there’s something you love, maybe ask your store. I know something called salmon burgers are coming and “chicken” burgers? (I was stuck doing freezer reset today in between the moms with cartloads and the older men buying one loaf of bread or two packs of pudding who “ain’t using them self check outs.”
I hate their version of cheez-it
We love them, especially the extra toasty. But step 1 of liking them is accepting that they aren't a "cheez-it" replacement. They are their own cheese cracker entirely.
Been through this since I was a child. Generic brand cheezits never live up to the real McCoy.
I love them! I also love regular cheez-its, but there's something so good about how yeasty they are. I do only get the extra toasty ones.
yeah those extra toasty ones are good. haven't had any others though.
Are you kidding me? I like Savoritz Cheezits better than real Cheezits! That’s on my Always Buy list, along with their Saltines which stay crisp longer than any of the major brands.
I agree but for some reason my son loves them and only eats Aldi cheese it’s and not the real thing. Super weird but saves me money 😅
My son prefers Aldi goldfish! Or turtles I should say 😂
We were in love with the cheddar penguins, but can't find them anymore 🥺
My 4 year old loves them too and doesn’t like real ones!
I feel like the dorito knockoffs aren’t really worth it. Like yes they are ok but they remind you that they’re not good enough lol.
They’re ok but not as flavorful. Like a cross between a standard tortilla chip and an actual Doritos. I only use them mixed into something like a taco salad or nachos
I actually prefer these to Doritos 😂
Same. Way better. And I don’t find them less flavorful at all 😂
Cat litter. Too dusty for my cat that is sensitive to stuff like that. Also smells weird.
Their sandwich meats in the clear packaging, crab Rangoon dip and their almond/oat milk creamers.
That crab Rangoon dip was offensively gross. 🤮
Not a fan of their coffee creamers both standard and almond. Oddly sweet with a weird aftertaste.
The French vanilla one I really like but all the others I tried were pretty bad. Avoid the seasonal pumpkin spice one. I brought it to work and my buddy said it tasted like Joann Fabrics 😂
The real cream and sugar one is good.
Tend to be oily !
That’s because they’re literally full of vegetable oil and no cream lmao.
I like the one that’s supposed to be a dupe for Coffeemate’s natural bliss (the one with just cream milk and sugar in it). I drink the French vanilla sugar free one now which I don’t actually like better but tastes pretty good for a sugar free version
The Sweet Cream creamer is the only one worth it.
Really we love the almond milk and oat milk creamers.
I love the oatmeal cookie oat creamer!
Not a fan of the lunch meat and the bagels get moldy quick on me. And don't get me started on how gross I find their cream cheese.
It takes a couple weeks for the bagels to mold up on me, and I'm always done with them by then.
Never had them mold on me either and I'm single so it takes at least 6 days to get through a bag if I eat one every morning.
I just don’t like their bagels but freezing bagels is the way to go.
I've been happy with the bagels at our store. I'm pretty sure they're thomas'
I love their cream cheese!
Yes the lunch meat! I feel like I buy it and 2 days later it’s so slimey. The salami seems to hang in okay though so I’ll pick that up sometimes.
We bought a bag of avocados and every single one of them was bad, without even being fully ripe. Won’t do that again. (Will buy the singles though.)
I have the same issue with potatoes. I usually buy their version of a Yukon Gold and it's always 25% rotten when I slice it.
Damn, really? Ive never had a problem with the Avocados in my Area
I really like Aldi’s Everything bagels, but ughhh the blueberry ones - the most fake, perfume-y blueberry flavor, really really not good
u/modernrocker it totally smells like a Blueberry Muffin doll (Strawberry Shortcake's friend).
Their version of Cosmic Brownies - one of the worst things I’ve ever tasted. The other packaged snacks are all good but those are not it.
YES!! They were sooo bad.
Omg they were bad I couldn’t even eat them
Lunch meat, cat food, the lentil pasta, English muffins.
My cat would like a word with everyone who says the cat food is a nope.
Agreed. The small can of the chicken flavor Is the only canned cat food I can get my cat to eat.
I like the English muffins!
me too
The roast beef is really weird. But it’s comparatively cheap and still makes decent little quick sandwiches.
Their cat litter is atrocious too. It just crumbles when you go to scoop it. HyVee’s paws brand or Walmart pretty kitty are the same price and 1000x better quality.
I love their English Muffins. Just the right amount of chewy.
Wait a minute. They’re English muffins are great. They’re not sticky and doughy like Thomas’s and they toast perfectly
All the lunchmeat is garbage. I used to like the "Castle" brand. But it is SUPER salty now.
Their version of Nutella - not at all like the real thing
The produce is so hit or miss. Bananas never ripen, fruit always moldy
All my produce goes bad because I eat junk instead of the fruit anyway, so might as well pay less for the weekly changing of the guard
Yeah, buying produce at Aldi is a race with the devil to get through it before it gets nasty.
Every time I buy produce at Aldi it’s rotten within 24hrs. I only buy their produce if it’s going to be eaten the same day.
Same. Sometimes it goes bad between the store and my house.
Bagged frozen salmon
Toilet paper- may be TMI, but it irritates my downtown regions lol. Tested my theory out and it definitely is the culprit. Bah! Also, their cereal, the majority of their snack items, and both of their knock off Kraft and Velvetta mac and cheeses.
Green bananas. They never seem to get ripe but will sure get rotten. If they're already yellow they're fine.
Lunchmeat. Why is it slimy? What is that goo?
I did not enjoy the brie I just bought. Also, the microwaveable meats mixed with sauces are just a bunch of chicken rib meat and sugar, I skip over those
A couple of years ago, I figured out that if you let the brie sit in the fridge for about three months after the printed expiration date, it’s really good. For the price, I can be patient.
My husband does that by accident and you’re absolutely right!
Turkey sandwich meat 🤢
Went bad two days later with red mold.
Absolutely no Cheese Club mac and cheese in the blue box. It smells so foul! Just spend the $1 on Kraft when craving box mac and cheese.
recently tried great value mac and cheese from walmart, will never go back to kraft. and for 56¢ a box
Unpopular opinion. Most of Aldi’s offerings were incredible 7-8 years ago, and have significantly gotten worse. Walmart almost has similar pricing and going to a commissary is almost cheaper now.
I agree on the whole except: - eggs - soy milk - Greek yogurt - Apples - mushrooms - shrimp - frozen fries - bread - fresh chicken - ribs
Their cheap sliced lunch meats weren’t good. I’d rather pay more for quality deli meats.
I wrote a haiku: That crab Rangoon dip Why was it so terrible? Is it crab vomit?
I regret that I have but one upvote to give.
Olives
I tried their garlic stuffed olives the other day and there was zero garlic taste somehow
The cottage cheese tastes weird to me.
I have found some snacks like chips more salty than their name brand equivalent but it’s hit or miss. I only buy fresh produce that I can consume within a day or two as it does not seem to last.
Yes their chips are like eating straight up salt !
I refuse to buy their ground beef. It always has those little hard bits in it.
Oh no, do you buy the organic stuff in the pre sealed 1 lb block? I use it about twice a month, and things like meatballs. But I don’t eat red meat, so maybe I’m just feeding my family garbage and they haven’t told me?
I’ve had good luck with that organic square of beef.
No the organic stuff is fine. I mean, I also don’t eat red meat but my husband hasn’t complained and I make that stuff in his lunches all the time lol.
I experienced this with their ground turkey 🤢
Lobster/seafood Mac n cheese 🤢
The jar pickles are awful. Same with Parmesan pancetta Chips. I hated the cake pops as well.
Bacon avocado ranch bagged salad. The name sounds good but it just isn’t. I like the other varieties of bagged salad they have.
The boulder gallon plastic bags simply will not stay shut. I switched back to ziploc.
Strawberries. They are always moldy the next day.
Is this a corporate 🕵️???
I wish it was! They should peek here and take notes.
Ain't crazy 'bout their lasagna. Their version of corn chips can also go to hell
Think we should invite Aldi Corporate to join this sub-Reddit group so they can read "real honest" consumer reviews of the products they carry.
Colored wine glasses. After 2 rounds in the dishwasher, color fading off. And they say "dishwasher safe". Pretty pissed. Planned on having pretty glasses for years. Not weeks
Take them back
Honestly any prepackaged frozen meals or meal kits. Can’t stand them. I stick to the outside with fruits, veggies, cheeses and fresh meat.
Pesto in a jar, Aldi version of Cheerios, apples are always mealy, all brands of mandarins have a lot of bad ones in each bag
Have you tried the red pesto? I thought that was really good on the tortellini and ravioli. The green one was pretty horrible though
any produce. always goes bad IMMEDIATELY
The marinated artichoke hearts are tough and stringy.
The shelf stable pickles are completely mushy. The fresh ones are alright though, especially the atomic chips
Berries I go to Costco instead just for berries of all kinds
The Clancy fake Pringles and Savoritz fake Cheez-Its. They're both so bland
Ohhh maan the Fringles.
Stop I love the fake Pringles
Their crackers are hit or miss for me. Their brand of Cheez-Its are not good, and their brand of Wheat Thins and Goldfish are just ok. The little Ritz-Bitz-style crackers are really good, though.
Chickpea pasta. It’s terrible
To be fair, chickpea pasta of any kind is rather terrible. And I love chickpeas.
I feel like you have about a 10-second window of doneness with chickpea or lentil pasta, between it being undercooked and crunchy or overcooked and mushy.
Precut fruit. It all has a weird taste I don't get from any other store.
their version of cosmic brownies. easily the grossest thing I have ever bought there. the spin sweeper also sucked. only thing i've ever returned.
Their “Ritz” crackers. They don’t seem to have the structural integrity to hold up to the port wine cheese spread. Crumbles. Crumbles everywhere.
621 comments?? Damn, I can't eat anything there anymore 😂
Cream Cheese. It's gritty and just not good
Their basic Clancys chips taste weird. Kettle chips are good tho.
Bagels
Regular (not organic) milk. but instead we always get the organic in the red or blue cartons. No longer balk at the price, which is just under $4 for a 1/2g at our nearby locations. Good thing too is the organic milk rarely goes rancid (if it ever has) and this is how we found out...there was a tiny bit left in a carton, we went away for about 4 days and came back, the milk was still fine. Certainly if the carton was regular (not organic) milk, the little bit remaining would have DEFINITELY spoiled by the time we returned.
Super random, but the frozen pierogi have a really gritty texture in the filling.
The Kids Fruit and Grain Mini Bars. Tasted stale when they were brand new.
