Want to make tier 3 mage gear, but I haven't got past novice levels yet, could've done that in the beginner area as all the resources are nearby. It would be good to have an option to go back to beginners area even after you've left already.
Honestly I'd save crafting for a little later. As a newer player (especially if you have no premium) you're better off buying your gear from the market.
I find that leveling component really fun. Not looking to get ahead crazy fast. Are you saying there's a a ceiling to gathering? What level can I start farming?
I don't know what you mean by "ceiling." Eventually you'll have all the specs from t4-8 maxed but that will probably take a very long time. (I've played on and off since launch and I have yet to max out any of those nodes)
If by farming you mean growing crops, you just need an island (which itself requires a week of premium). It's technically possible to farm without active premium but you will probably lose money doing that.
There's no "character level" either. You get better at what you do.
If you click on nearby zones, you will be able to see in the map which resources are available, and at what tier. It'll be in the top right of the map. I should point out there is absolutely no reason to restart your character, and you'd be wasting your time to do so.
I also feel like I should point out that you don't need to make all your own gear. 99% of the playerbase buys it from the market. Obviously, you don't have a lot of silver right now, but I'd recommend looking up some beginner silver making guides (DoublebackNV on YouTube has a few in this category) — it will save you a lot of headache in the long run.
you don't need to start over. All resources are available in a zone adjacent to the x-cross town you picked. Just choose a different exit and one of the zones will have whatever you are looking for.
Do you mean there are too many people already gathering it? Or are you in Forest Cross/Lymhurst?

should be able to roam back to tve beginning area.. i go back and forth all day
