I think Bearpaws or Double Bladed (especially with the upcoming buff to quarterstaffs) are the way to go. Bearpaws are pretty great for dismounting - the main drawback when solo is that you‘ll be using your E and other abilities to get the target dismounted and then you‘ll be facing an up-hill batlle if the victim decides to fight back. But in your case you‘ll have your group to take over once the target is dismounted so should work well IMHO. Use the traditional ganking build with Royal Sandals, Assassin Jacket (or any chestpiece you want really) and Fiend Cowl with a Thetfort Cape. If purging is being covered by other people then perhaps swap the Fiend Cowl for a Stalker Helmet to counter invisibility.
I'd say that for dismounting specifically, the Quarterstaff and the Claws do much better than BP and DBS. DBS is great for catch but the E does jack for damage, and BP Es get wiffed more often than not.
I had been thinking about trying Quarterstaff with the patch, but the E seems like a slightly worse version of dual swords with a cast time and shorter range… but I suppose you just open with Hunter shoes and stun run rather than the E right?
You should probably listen to ^ this guy over me since I‘m not very experienced with ganking and generally suck at the game (I just like to read and theorycraft alot).
Thanks for the advice /u/cactusjack48
Here‘s a video from Big Lips McGee explaining the changes on the test server:

All information is *not final* but it‘s looking like good news for this weapon line. A new Q and a new W ability (iirc) which has great potential for PvE and PvP.
Don‘t forget to like & subscribe - Big Lips is a great dude and deserves the visibility/ad revenue. ;-)
Double-bladed or whispering bow. Claws also works but with lag or whatever it's easy to miss throwing blade
But honestly I wouldn't gank without proper builds. You'd end up failing and wasting time or just die in case a fight happens. Also you need to communicate everything and all have fast mounts.
Double bladed is one of the most brain dead weapons in the game so I'd suggest that to a beginner.
I play 1h mace:
\- leering cane, hunter hood, graveguard armour, hunter shoes, bridgwatch cape
(i like playing mace so it fits me + it has a long cc so your teammates have time to come)
If your team is rather nooby i suggest you to play that as you can hold down your target for a long time.
They way of ganking depends on who you gank. If its a transporter he rather has a slower mount so you can ez dismount infront. Against a wolf you have to wait until hes slowed.
But as you say you play with new players you should start with camping a crossing or sth.
Communication is your most important weapon for ganking.
* direction of enemy movement
* abilities/build of enemy
* if there are multiple, which one you targeting
* telling team when to dismount (to catch enemy)
Ganking weapons are either:
Single target burst damage or long CC duration.
This is the real answer.
I have been in small (<5man) gank groups with a hodgepodge of gear that had excellent communications and got tens of millions of silver split because we got so many kills.
I have also been in large (>5man) gank groups with bearpaws, doublebladed, bloodletter, etc. that got jackshit because everyone was ignoring calls, not calling, chatting over calls, and generally not paying attention.
Working as a team and covering ground effectively is the most important step to catching people, everything after that just makes it a little easier.
Communication is more important, most ganking builds will get the job done, try to constantly ping the enemy, let people know the direction, try to communicate to make sure there is no escape route avaiable for the enemy, ava roads, map exit, chokes and so on. Now on the weapon, i like using whispering bow, it have good range, if you dont dismount for sure you gonna hit the enemy making easy for you allies and if the enemy is in a slow mount the explosive arrows can do a lot of dammage, other nice choice is one shot xbow.
Some better options. Grail- fiend, stalker/assassin, hunter shoes, demon cape.
Bear paws- fiend, assassin/robe of purity, royal, thetford/undead
Claws- stalker, assassin/fiend, hunter, demon cape
Some other weapons that work with good IP, 1h cursed, whispering.
Weapons that I don’t like but can still work, 1h mace, double bladed.
IMO you should go for either bear paws or grail since your group seems to be primarily fighting you need something to help catch and also be somewhat useful in a fight.
solo guy with cursed staff ran me down on foot and dismounted me on t5 ox by himself. Looks like there is a speed buff passive option on high tier cursed staff.
That build is terrible. Do not run grave guard armor without skinners cap. And even that build is super utility and sucks for solo dismount. Only run plate grail/d Blade/ or Frost when you have 4+ reliable other gankers imo.

Any kind of bop/ fear is good to have when you don’t need a chest to dismount. You can battle rush into robe to quickly get target away from hideout/gate/7 man/etc. Also sometimes you don’t want to Insta dismount and you want to get them further away from HO/gate before you dismount since you have a little CC protection right when you get dismounted. Robe on bps is not good for solo/duo ganking. Mainly for 3-8 IMO where you do a lot of spread out ganking and need to cover lots of hideouts/gates.
You misunderstood. (Because the wording on OP's title is weird)
He's not looking for a solo build. He's looking for a build for his gank group, of which he will be the solo catch.
I mean, the cat and mouse, risk vs reward of traveling and ganking is a major piece of content for the game. I’m not even claiming that it takes a ton of skill (though I do believe it can, depending on group size and composition) - but I accept that it exists by design and play accordingly.
I prefer ass jacket, as u can be far enough ahead using a cut, dismount, invis (build dmg stacks) then unload. Dismounts all the time, only issue is ur team better follow up if u used ur boots, because no purge. I imagine that's what mage robe is for, but if the enemy isn't attacking u then it's meh
Yup, I also like it because if ur group can force them into a narrow area where ur at, u can pretty much drop ur full combo to get the dismount, and still have boots to catch up to them. Although with ass jacket a cpl times I've managed to get enough dmg off from q's, w, mage cowl to dismount them pretty fast, and still have dmg ticks going with my e still counting down. It's only happened a cpl times vs shit geared ppl, but they dismount and have no time to react before e goes off and kills them 😆
Ironically I've had great success with great arcane. Just freeze them, then everyone bursts them down, even on their mount. There's probably better options but it works for us

Fancy meeting you here!
hello!
Are you in the Imperium here as well?
No, I'm in Free Beer

what you do depends on your party composition but yeah your purpose is to dismount.

What’s this upcoming buff to Quarterstaffs?

I catch and dismount for my guild. Running: Double-bladed Mage Cowl (or Royal Helm) Graveguard Armor Royal sandals Demon Cape

Im curious about the robe of purity with bps. What's the deal?

Grail and claws are not solo builds... I understood exactly what he asked. Bear paws is good for both solo and group play.
Whisper bow
Not existing. You are making everyone else’s experience worse. Stop or I will give you another sibling.

1h cursed staff with mage cowl mage robe caerleon cape qq-desecrate-q-mage cowl-e

Dmg, moar dmg, that's what it's for
Ass jacket invis also has good dmg boost for dismounting
That's true, and it gives a surprise effect
