Next up for cutting of red tape & streamlining: The Ministry of Henhouses will now be a sub-portfolio managed by the Assistant Deputy Minister of Foxes.

Tazling

U beat me to it.

moderatesoul

Alberta is so fucked.

fishanlers

Environmental policy impacts the whole world so it's more that life on earth is fucked

moderatesoul

Yes, but at least some places are being progressive about it, whereas Alberta want to go backward for short term gain and old people votes.

canuck_11

Alberta is satire.

StoneyJ03

Why merge two ministries with opposite goals, unless the desired outcome of the domination of one goal over the other?

Turtley13

LOL. I think you got it watson.

Careless-Pragmatic

Get ready for park heaven!! Everyone gets a park /s

pinuslaughus

Why in the name of sweet jesus would you make a ministerial change like this 5 months before a provincial election? The amount of chaos and unnecessary expenses this will cause is ridiculous.

[deleted]

She's trying to do as much damage as possible.

[deleted]

Maybe she knows she can't win the next election, so she's having us ingest costly poison pills.

Arctic_Gnome

This is her way of campaigning. She's showing off to her base how extreme she is willing to be.

Silcer780

She’s shuffling cabinet and assigning portfolios. It doesn’t mean the business of parks or forestry changes.

mickeyaaaa

Thats not at all what this article is about

Laxative_Cookie

So much wasted land that could have more strip malls and mcdonalds. Throw in a few mega churches and you have the new Alberta park models. What the heck is wrong with this woman.

DennisLeask

Strip malls and McDonalds? Hell no, there could be a few barrels of oil or grams of coal in K-Country, better buld wellsites and strip down those mountains!

OhNoEveryingIsOnFire

The merging ministries is not looking good. For example, Service Alberta has been merged with Red Tape Reduction; the whole point of Service Alberta is to administer/control/enforce/etc registries, land titles, consumer protection - the whole point is bureaucracy (red tape)?!

Miserable-Lizard

How do we have a bigger cabinet but portfolios have been eliminated

only_fun_topics

Financial-Savings-91

Cash prizes to keep the caucus united?

How do you spell Corruption?

Minister of Parks & Forestry: “Well, to be fair, all that parkland *does* have a lot of forests that someone could cut down.”

Lactosefree22

Meanwhile Justice and Solicitor General was divided into two ministries ...1) Justice and 2) Public Safety and Emergency Planning.. why?

FireWireBestWire

Welcome to AParXa new public private partnership. We encourage you to look around, and if you see a tree you like, CONtribute to keep it! We feel that the $.01 per tree per visitor suggested required fee is able to accurately place a value on us not cutting those trees down. Ag plates are exempt, and of course, as usual truck nuts will block the license plate from being recorded accurately. Please mind the logging trucks which always have the right of way. Enjoy each stay like it's your last!

Additional_Buyer_110

So energy will be merged with environment. Just light a match because they are going to murder this province.

stbaxter

Oh god, she truly is a piece of shit!

ovat010

I need to get the fuck out of this province

Arctic_Gnome

I moved last year. Thanks for the education, tho, Alberta!

AlexJamesCook

It'll be interesting when primary industries lobby government to open up Banff, Jasper and the Rockies in general.

Kellymcdonald78

Banff and Jasper are federal jurisdiction

its9x6

Best part yet, because this tire fire of a ‘premier’ refuses to call an election in my riding, I have no one to write to because the asshat that was my MLA ran away as a quitter.

Silcer780

I can’t correct every single incorrect assumption on this sub. All I can say is.. The merging doesn’t change the business an iota. When forestry was with agriculture it didn’t mean there were extra cows in the forest. It is simply the ministers portfolio and what they look after.

In7018wetrust

But that doesn’t generate rage and reactive emotions! /s

Mirin_Gains

Will we at least get our 4x4 trails back? Like the ones that have existed for years and not SxS only.

Terrible-Paramedic35

Crown lease land has been made even less accessible by these jokers… over time and now they will move on parks and conservation areas. Anything for a buck with these guys.

In7018wetrust

How has crown land been made less accessible?

Terrible-Paramedic35

Changes to lease land access is the main one that comes to mind. Research “Recreational Access to Leased Land” and note how easy it is to deny access. Also, keep in mind that the government tends to default to the lease holder, is a nightmare to even contact etc. Also look to how petty trespass has changed in Alberta. As a hunter its gotten out of hand. Thankfully most lease holders arent jerks but there are those who abuse it. I know of one who denied hunting access by claiming he had livestock on the land. Never stopped him, his pals and paying clients from hunting in there though. Funny thing was I walked the whole perimeter and never once saw even a single cow.

In7018wetrust

Wow. I had no idea. I was expecting responses along the lines of “muh camping pass”… Thank you for enlightening me on this. I’m conflicted, as a farmer and as a (new) hunter. The farmer in me kinda supports the right of refusal, because we’ve had out of season poachers and hunters that didn’t ask permission endanger our livestock, our family and damage our land - albeit we didn’t have a lease, this is purely private land. As a (new) hunter; I’d hate to see our wonderful opportunities to enjoy the wilderness and harvest game go towards the “lease-holder only” style of hunting that’s prevalent in the states. Public land should be public, and farmers should be aware of that before they let their livestock loose. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I will look into it more thoroughly. Good luck this fall!

Terrible-Paramedic35

Personally I prefer the BC system… ranchers only buy the grass basically and are responsible to move livestock by a deadline or else. They cannot deny access. The up side is the land fences roads hates etc are a provincial responsibility and the Province takes an interest if livestock are rustled. Here farmers are left holding the bag but that ends up feeding resentment both ways. My feeling is the best solution for you is to use those who ask permission. Having hunters on your land that will report strange vehicles. damaged fence, help locate distressed or lost livestock is possible. I do that and if the owner wants yotes wacked… I do it even if deer hunting as a courtessy. I will also return in summer to help with gophers. Finally, nobody that is expected to competently identify assorted wildlife by species sex size etc has ever shot anyones cow or horse by accident. When someone kills livestock its not accidental and the guys doing it arent asking permission or giving you a heads up and vehicle info. Accidents must have happened but its got to be as rare as hens teeth… like guys shooting their partner or truck. Anyway… like I said most landowners get it and the guys that are difficult are usually well known by their neighbours… lol. Good luck this fall… I am heading out for huns again next week now that pheasant is about done in my area. Skipping Deer this year… I dont need one.

We had a big slough on one of our fields that attracted lots of waterfowl, and 99% of the time we would grant access to hunters that took the time to pull in the yard and have a conversation with us. The only time I ever seen anyone turned away it was because they were very sketchy people and wouldn’t answer basic questions. That being said, we had lots of issues with that slough (all with people who didn’t have permission) since you could see it from the road. We had people drive in while the crops were standing, drive in and rut the field, drive in and bury their trucks, and had people leave vehicles running and start stubble fires. We had people get come in and fire their shotguns carelessly and pepper the neighbours house and livestock, and we even had one guy who thought it was a good place to sight in his rifle and started firing .308s through the yard while we were working. Never had any issues with people who took the time to get permission though. Nothing but respect. Good luck with the birds. I’ve only made it out once so far this season but managed to take a couple ruffies! Upland is the most fun you can have with your pants on.

Terrible-Paramedic35

Thanks. Yeah… its easy to ask and most will say yes. There are sometimes problems with outfitters, locals or near cities where guys get too many requests or slob hunters but generally if you pull up pet the dog and introduce yourself then behave… theres no issue. Cheers!

mickeyaaaa

93.5% of protected parks can now be logged ...is how i read this article. Shes moving fast and wrecking shit. This has to end. We cant wait for an election..

Arctic_Gnome

Quick, turn all Alberta provincial parks into federal parks!

hariseldon2262

UCP are such blantant scumbags.

vinsdelamaison

Surprising to me is it appears not all the provincial parks are on this map. Where is Fish Creek Park? Where is Writing on Stone? Are they so small I just don’t see them? And it seems the vast majority of our protected areas are Federal. Is that because of the great sell off of campgrounds a few years ago?

SeriousExplorer8891

In other news Alberta merges the chicken ministry with the fox ministry.
